[ubuntu-uk] Canon Lide25 and Xsane
I have a Canon Lide 25 scanner on Gutsy - the hardware pages report that it works out of the box, which is why I chose it. It scans OK with Xsane, but when the scanned image window comes up it fills the whole screen, covering the panels. There's no border, min/max/close buttons, but the menu bar is shown. If I choose any menu item, it locks up. I've been digging about on the forums and the Sane/Xsane sites, but I can't find a solution to this. Any advice on this? so I created a udev rule: sudo gedit

I am puzzled... why it is not working?
As for your solution it seemed to me that it fits not my usage scenario:
- home after work
- plug in and synch
- do something with the files on local hdd
- before unmount sync new/changed filed back to USB
When I get your idea right it will unmount right away!?
Still I would like to test you idea but I am not sure where to place your code.
in a shell script I assume. I have no idea
about the daemon though.
RE umount of busy drive I could use the lazy option.

A couple of things to consider here (if i'm understanding your goals correctly): - Unison is a utility that uses the rsync algorithm to do bi-directional sync. This means that you don't have to manage the bidirectional rsync options yourself, but just run Unison every time either side changes. - You can get GNOME to run a custom command on insertion of different media types using System-Preferences-Removable Drives and Media. I use this to sync my digital camera cards by getting it to run a script which syncs the files (unidirectionally, in this case), then umount the SD card. Then there's no need to run a daemon or poll a driver. A possible down side to this is that you need to be logged in. Cara, voce pode comprar um notebook parrudo e instala o Ubuntu, essa historia de que o windows eh mais facil do que o linux eh antiga e nao cola mais. O que falta eh boa vontade, tenho um irmao que eh biologo e não saca quase nada de computador e talz! Ta usando so ubuntu no note dele e ainda instalou o xfce que ele achou melhor que o gnome, a unica coisa que ele me pediu foi pra instalar o pruguin-do-frash, fora isso ele ta o tempo todo lendo e indo atras! Você está sem DNS. Se o micro está usando DHCP, pode ser o router que não esteja informando o IP do servidor de DNS. Abra um terminal e veja a saída do comando 'cat /etc/resolv.conf', deve mostrar o domínio padrão de busca (search) configurado no router e o IP do servidor de DNS (nameserver), geralmente é o do próprio router ou então do provedor de conexão. Não é o Gnome que faz os efeitos, mas sim o Compiz Fusion, então funcionam também em outros gerenciadores de janelas, como o KDE, por exemplo. Diferentemente do Windows Vista Aero, também não precisa de máquina parruda para estes efeitos, o importante é que o chip de vídeo seja compatível com DRI e GLX, eu sei que rodam na maioria das NVidia Geforce, ATI e Intel. Inclusive rodam até nestes micros populares com vídeo Intel 945 onboard, com apenas 8MB de memória compartilhada. De fato os efeitos são muito bacanas, e eu gosto de ver os meus amigos babando quando mostro a eles o meu micrinho, um pobre Sempron 1.6GHz com uma GeForce FX5500, rodando um ou dois vídeos simultâneamente dentro do cubo girando em um fundo 360º, com janelas transparentes, pegando fogo, chovendo, etc. :-) 2008/4/19 Robson Fernandes [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Depende do que vc quer... Porque dificilmente eles conseguem fechar todos os testes necessários antes da versão LST já estar no mercado e é comum uma série de atualizações acontecerem no primeiro mês. Isso se deve principalmente a necessidade cada vez maior de beta tests. Acho que a maior utilidade de ter um anti-virus instalado no linux é proteger as outras pessoas que usam Windows. Por exemplo, para não repassar para alguém algum email com vírus, achando que é seguro. Eu moro num alojamento grande, e ultimamente tenho visto um vírus se espalhando bastante via pen-drive, pois o pessoal usa muito para levar algum arquivo rapidinho pro amigo ver. Fora isso, vírus no Linux são praticamente inexistentes. Ao meu ver, isso tem os seguintes motivos: - Muitos usuários Windows pirata tem medo de atualizar o sistema, e estragar o crack. Ou seja, muitas falhas de segurança já conhecidas não são aplicadas. - Menos usado, faz com que o sistema seja menos visado. Além disso, usuários linux são, via de regra, mais experientes na área, ou seja, tem menos probabilidade de cair no email bonitinho do banco pedindo pra clicar no link. - Falta de padronização entre distros. Se já é meio difícil instalar um programa, um vírus também tem suas dificuldades. Pode ser que um vírus funcionaria em uma distro mas não em outra, ou mesmo não em outra versão da mesma distro. Olá a todos Eu comecei a acompanhar esta discussão e vi que as pessoas estão simplesmente repassando informações, às vezes errôneas sobre o assunto. Há muito de FUD nesta história, algumas vezes disseminadas na comunidade por gente que ou não tem informação ou por querer denigrir mesmo o Linux. Como diria a M$, get the facts: 1) O Linux não pega vírus - isso é falso - se eu fizer um programa que faça um fork() infinito e executá-lo como root a máquina cai - tá bom isso é o que os especialistas chamam de prova de conceito, isto é, é possível fazer um vírus, só não dá para disseminá-lo facilmente no mundo Linux. Linux é software, software tem falha, logo Linux é passível de vírus (aja silogismo) 2) No momento, não temos nenhuma praga virtual (linux, worms, trojans etc.) que possa usar uma distro qualquer Linux como meio de cultura e desenvolvimento e que seja efetiva, não somente prova de conceito. O Walter Melo falou que há muitas poucas pragas para Linux. Eu queria que ele me passasse um link com algumas delas. É interessante estudá-las. Apesar de já ter procurado no google por Linux Virus e não ter encontrado nada (pelo menos até a página 2). Encontrei um tal de virus multiplataforma que, dizia a matéria da info infectava também Linux. Nem ao menos encontrei o seu código fonte para Linux. Tentei rodar pelo wine a versão pro Windows e também não rodou, o wine apontou um erro, uma função lá que não existia (ou seja, tá usando funções não documentadas da API do Windows). 3) O Linux não pega vírus porque é menos visado/usado/etc - igualmente falso. Nenhum outro SO cresceu tanto como o Linux. Vários sites importantes usam o Linux para suportar as suas atividades. Até a receita federal brasileira está começando a adotar o Linux. Logo, é importante para hackers e crackers do mundo tentar explorar eventuais falhas (o que ACONTECE), entretanto, nenhum vírus (de fato danoso) ainda foi desenvolvido e não é por falta de tentativa. 4) As pessoas confundem vírus com falhas de segurança. Segurança é uma coisa, programa sendo executado é outra. Virus é um código furtivo e que tem a capacidade de se clonar e fazer parte de outros programas. Worms ou vermes, trojans e backdoors, são outra classe de pragas virtuais que são na verdade uma falha de segurança. Já os tais de Virus de Macro são código furtivo que infecta formatos binários de documentos. O Linux é muito passível a falhas de segurança e, sem o cuidado necessário, a Worms, Bacdoors etc. Já Virus de Macro atacam falhas nas aplicações. Se você utilizar um OpenOffice da vida há possibilidade de pegar um destes, mas até agora só foi criado prova de conceito sobre uma falha que já foi corrigida. 5) Não tenho nenhum receio de espetar pen-drives no meu note. Já tirei muito amigo meu de enrascada. Os virus (programas .exe) que ficavam espalhados e escondidos no pen-drive ficam visíveis no Nautilus. É só deletar e o cara tá livre. É claro depois dessa limpeza pesada sempre digo para ele fazer um varredura com anti-virus numa máquina limpa. 6) Usuários experientes tem menos chance de pegar virus: é certo, mas parcialmente. Imagine um cara que queria ferrar todo mundo. Cria um site interessante, que contém alguns programas para baixar. Você baixa o .deb dá dois cliques, clica em instalar, insere a sua senha e, voi-lá. Programa novo. Mas no meio havia um código furtivo que tenta se infiltrar nos binários. Pronto você pegou um virus. Isso já foi feito e muitos usuários experiente já cairam nessa. Agora o que este código pode fazer com seu sistema? Bom, a não ser que você tenha vários binários instalados na sua pasta de usuário, o virus tá morto na entrada, porque ele não poderá infectar nada no sistema. 7) Já fiz isso e outro tópico a uns meses e até agora ninguém respondeu, na verdade foi a última mensagem daquela thread: me apresente um vírus (efetivo, que possa se duplicar furtivamente e tudo mais) para Linux que eu pessoalmente irei testá-lo na minha máquina. Quando instalei o ubuntu 8.04 ele funciona beleza com o drive nv para quando mudei para driver proprietário nvidia-glx-new, a do GDM abre branca com listras na tela, escuto até o som indicando que o gdm está esperando a entrada do usuario. que possa usar uma distro qualquer Linux como meio de cultura e
desenvolvimento e que seja efetiva, não somente prova de conceito. O Walter
Melo falou que há muitas poucas pragas para Linux. Eu queria que ele me
passasse um link com algumas delas. É interessante estudá-las. Apesar de já
ter procurado no google por Linux Virus e não ter encontrado nada (pelo

a matéria da info infectava também Linux. Nem ao menos encontrei o seu

Eu fiz isso com um daqueles dialers, foi divertido, ele instalou
iexplorer.exe, explorer.exe e mais um monte de tralha.

a capacidade de se clonar e fazer parte de outros programas. Worms ou
vermes, trojans e backdoors, são outra classe de pragas virtuais que são na

furtivo que infecta formatos binários de documentos. O Linux é muito
passível a falhas de segurança e, sem o cuidado necessário, a Worms,
Bacdoors etc. Já Virus de Macro atacam falhas nas aplicações. Se você

Aí que entra aquilo que eu SEMPRE falo. Tem gente que vem de uma
filosofia do windows de instalar ele e nunca mais atualizar e achar o
windows update chato e simplesmente não atualizar nada.

[Ubuntu-BR] Script Iptables não faz o que eu que ro :(
Pessoal vou explicar a minha situação: Tenho um computador AMD DURON 900Mhz com 256Mb de memoria aqui na empresa, ele tava encostado sem fazer nada, ai decidi colocar ele como firewall, instalei o ubuntu recompilei o kernel deixei enxuto, ficou bala. Sim, mas vamos seguir ao firewall: Ele tem 2 placas de rede,obvio, uma de cara para internet outra que vai ser ligada na porta WAN de um roteador wireless, a empresa toda wifi :). O que eu quero com o firewall é liberar o acesso aos serviços básicos http,https,ssh,vnc, entre outros, além do que eu tenho um servidor web que vai ficar atras do roteador ao qual eu preciso redirecionar a porta 80 para este servidor, além da porta de vnc para ele. Depois de 2 dias tentando configurar tudo isso aqui no iptables eu acho que cheguei a algo que faz sentido pelo menos pra mim mas que não está funcionando do jeito que eu quero. [Ubuntu-BR] Erro com o Firefox 2 no Hardy Heron

[Ubuntu-BR] ati driver proprietário e ubuntu 8 .04
pessoal, acabei de atualizar meu ubuntu da 7.10 para versão 8.04, como uso sempre o último driver proprietário da ati (pois uso para jogos) tinha que instalar na mão a última versão do driver. (Eu usava o 8.3, depois de atualizar a distro quis pegar a última versão 8.4). Parece que o driver já suporta o hardy na boa, gerei pacotes pra ele executando com o parametro --buildpkg Ubuntu/Hardy , gerou os pacotes e eu instalei na boa, acontece tudo sem erro até eu executar esse passo da instalação: $ sudo module-assistant build fglrx -f The source tarball could not be found! Package fglrx-kernel-source not installed? Running m-a -f get fglrx-kernel-source may help. Finalizado com /usr/src/fglrx-kernel-2.6.24-16-generic_8.433-1 +2.6.24-16.30_i386.deb . porém o pacote fglrx-kernel-source foi instalado após eu gerar os pacotes. Мучает следущий вопрос: как в терминале запустить программу, потом закрыть его, а программа осталась в рабочем режиме, т.е. как процесс. Всем привет! Сталкнулся с проблеммой следующего характера Удалил папку с музыкой в корзину. If you mount the samba share as a kernel mount and try to cat the movie to /dev/null, does that work or do you get errors? What is the speed of connection between your Ubuntu client and your Samba server? Is the crash reproducible for you every time by trying to full-screen the movie when playing from the Samba share? récupération de données
bonjour à tous, lors d'une modification d'une table de partition, j'ai effacé par inadvertance la table de partition. avec testdrive j'ai réussi à retrouver la table. mais maintenant les données d'une des partitions est illisibles. en effet j'ai des fichiers avec le nom suivant `??.?b? par exemple. quelqu'un aurait-il déjà eu ce problème. comment peut-on faire pour récupérer les données?? merci de votre aide. (sur une seule ligne)
doit régler ton pb (à peu près, si un fichier est dans plusieurs paquets il est
compté pour chaque paquet, si c'est un
lien symbolique il est ignoré).

Utilise plutôt cette commande :
dpkg-query -W -f='${Installed-Size} \t${Package}\n' paquets.list
(voir la page de manuel de dpkg-query)
Cela va générer une liste des paquets avec la taille du paquet installé et le
nom du paquet, les lignes seront du type :
1192 busybox-initramfs
Il suffit ensuite de faire un tri numérique sur le fichier :
sort -n paquets.list -o paquets_par-taille.list

The way I see it the option Always ask should _always ask_ what certificate to use each and every time I try to log into the site. That is not the way FF works and not what the button suggests. Firefox works with sessions. It always asks *for every session*. You can easily start a new session by restarting FF as you already found out. What you expect would be a confirmation for every connection. For a single page with say 15 elements, that means 15 (!) confirmations. I don't think anybody in their right mind would seriously expect or desire this behaviour. katsiki, your problem is slightly different. I guess you installed with the internal drive enabled and then disabled it? The numbering of the drives changed and if grub tries to boot Ubuntu from (hd1) it is probably (hd0) now that the internal drive is disabled. I've just revisited this after upgrading my system to hardy. I still need to apply my patch to openssl version 4.7 from hardy, including the call to ENGINE_set_default_ciphers(ENGINE_by_id(padlock)). Without that call, I was still only getting about 5.6 MB/s. Ian, are you passing any command line flags, or have you changed a configuration file to tell OpenSSH to use padlock?
