Should we install unar by default? * Should we install the universe packages by default? Should the user have an opt-out chance at install time? [Bug 1068365] Re: openvswitch gre tunnels not working in quantal
** Description changed: - I use the charm at lp:~serge-hallyn/charms/quantal/ovs-lxc to fire up a - pair of lxc nodes. The hooks/install file will show how the nodes are - set up. Each node has an openvswitch bridge with a gre tunnel with the - other node as remote_ip, and a dnsmasq on the master lxc host. It - creates containers which have eth1 slaved to the openvswitch bridge. + [Impact] + Quantal currently only has the openvswitch module provided via the kernel; this does not support gre tunnels between switches which is used extensively by OpenStack Quantum. The DKMS module which is currently disabled in quantal provides these and other features. This is a regression compared to precise which ships the dkms module. + + [Test Case] + Serges charm is a excellent way to test this - see lp:~serge-hallyn/charms/quantal/ovs-lxc/trunk + + juju deploy local:ovs-lxc master + juju deploy local:ovs-lxc slave + juju add-relation master:master slave:slave + juju ssh slave/0 + sudo lxc-start -n quantal-amd64-pristine + + LXC instances will not get an IP address from the DHCP server running on + the master. + + sudo ovs-dpctl show -s + Will not show a gre entry for the configured pipe (its non-functional) + + [Regression Potential] + The fix pull in 8 cherry picked commits from upstream trunk which are predominately targetted at the datapath component (currently disabled). + + These picks fixup support for the 3.5 kernel and rename the the dkms + provided modules to remove the _mod suffix (aligning to the kernel + module naming). + + There are some changes in the ovs scripts which are used during init + control of openvswitch. + + [Original Bug] + I use the charm at lp:~serge-hallyn/charms/quantal/ovs-lxc to fire up a pair of lxc nodes. The hooks/install file will show how the nodes are set up. Each node has an openvswitch bridge with a gre tunnel with the other node as remote_ip, and a dnsmasq on the master lxc host. It creates containers which have eth1 slaved to the openvswitch bridge. On precise (using lp:~serge-hallyn/charms/precise/ovs-lxc) this works. Containers on slave nodes get ip addresses from the dnsmasq on the master, and can communicate to each other over the private 192.168.100.x subnet. Precise is using the openvswitch_mod kernel module. On quantal, which uses the upstream openvswitch kernel module, it does not work. When I create a container on the slave, and run dhclient on its 'eth1' which is slaved to the openvswitch bridge, tcpdump on the slave host shows the queries on ovbr0 (the openvswitch bridge) but not on eth0. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openvswitch in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1068365 Title: openvswitch gre tunnels not working in quantal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1068365/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1070643] Re: Quantal DNS resolution rejects apt-get
The error entries above indicate a clear configuration problem on your side, not a bug in our tools. dl.google.com is: dl.google.com is an alias for dl.l.google.com. dl.l.google.com has address 209.85.148.91 dl.l.google.com has address 209.85.148.93 dl.l.google.com has address 209.85.148.190 dl.l.google.com has address 209.85.148.136 dl.l.google.com has IPv6 address 2a00:1450:4001:c01::be But apt-get is trying to access it and archive.canonical.com using 91.189.91.14 which is one of the many mirrors behind us.archive.ubuntu.com. What this tells me is that you somehow configured apt to use archive.ubuntu.com or us.archive.ubuntu.com as a proxy server, creating this apt problem and likely many others on your system. There are quite a few places where you could have set that proxy, the easiest way to find it would be to look for that IP, or archive.ubuntu.com or us.archive.ubuntu.com throught /etc (using grep or a similar tool) to find where it's been set, then unset it, reboot the system (to wipe out the environment variables) and try again. Marking this bug invalid as it's a user configuration problem, not an actual bug. ** Changed in: dnsmasq (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dnsmasq in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1070643 Title: Quantal DNS resolution rejects apt-get To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dnsmasq/+bug/1070643/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1068365] Re: openvswitch gre tunnels not working in quantal
** Description changed: [Impact] Quantal currently only has the openvswitch module provided via the kernel; this does not support gre tunnels between switches which is used extensively by OpenStack Quantum. The DKMS module which is currently disabled in quantal provides these and other features. This is a regression compared to precise which ships the dkms module. [Test Case] Serges charm is a excellent way to test this - see lp:~serge-hallyn/charms/quantal/ovs-lxc/trunk juju deploy local:ovs-lxc master juju deploy local:ovs-lxc slave juju add-relation master:master slave:slave juju ssh slave/0 sudo lxc-start -n quantal-amd64-pristine LXC instances will not get an IP address from the DHCP server running on the master. - sudo ovs-dpctl show -s + sudo ovs-dpctl show -s Will not show a gre entry for the configured pipe (its non-functional) [Regression Potential] - The fix pull in 8 cherry picked commits from upstream trunk which are predominately targetted at the datapath component (currently disabled). + The fix pull in 8 cherry picked commits from upstream trunk which are predominately targetted at the datapath component (currently disabled) so are well contained. These picks fixup support for the 3.5 kernel and rename the the dkms provided modules to remove the _mod suffix (aligning to the kernel module naming). There are some changes in the ovs scripts which are used during init control of openvswitch. [Original Bug] I use the charm at lp:~serge-hallyn/charms/quantal/ovs-lxc to fire up a pair of lxc nodes.

Since the migration that creates the volume_id_mappings and snapshot_id_mappings tables does not populate the 'deleted' column, queries to this table should not limit results to 'deleted=0'. Limiting to non-deleted rows results in duplicate mappings being created for existing instance mappings after an upgrade, and throws off volume and snapshot ID to UUID mapping. This is a stop-gap measure to ensure avoid serious breakage during an upgrade. The NULL columns in this table are actually unused currently and can be populated in later grizzly migrations, if they end up being used. Fixes bug 1065785. Public bug reported: Daviey asked me to put a quick description of this in a bug: Currently the options for MAAS reboot management are extremely limited. You can do virsh, IPMI, or wake-on-lan. Real server environments tend to have remotely controllable Power Distribution Units and Integrated Lights-Out units (often called an ALOM, ILO or ILOM) for physical power control. ILO systems tend to be ideosyncratic, but supporting the ones from Dell and HP and IBM ought to get you most of the way. As for the PDU approach, any PDU worth the money will support the PowerNet MIB. The MIB is large and unwieldy, but the important elements are the SNMP community (or other elements for authentication if you're using snmpv2 or later) and a few key OIDs: 1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.12.1.8.0 gets you the number of ports on a PDU, 1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.12.3.3.1.1.2.* gets you the port names, and 1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.12.3.3.1.1.4.$portnum lets you control ports by snmp-putting magic integers in. This is again, almost everything you need to make it work. Let me know if you need any other context from me on how this stuff works. ** Affects: maas (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: + Daviey asked me to put a quick description of this in a bug: + Currently the options for MAAS reboot management are extremely limited. [Bug 1070867] [NEW] No don't know/irrelevant options when using apport for reporting samba bugs/crashes
Public bug reported: Original post about this at: http://askubuntu.com/questions/202029/keep- getting-smbd-errors-but-apport-asks-questions-i-cant-answer . When I get smbd crashes on my system, apport tries to handle the reporting, but starts off by trying to ask questions. I can't sensibly/usefully answer these questions. For example, the first question asks: How would you best describe your setup? -I am running a Windows File Server -I am connecting to a Windows File Server. Since I am doing both, I have no idea which to choose. In any case, selecting one leads to the next question: Did this used to work properly with a previous release? -No -Yes But I never tried to use Samba in a previous release, so I can't seriously answer this. After picking an option here, I get more questions in a similar vein. Surely there should be I don't know/I haven't tried options, even if they simply mean apport tells you that you can't submit a useful bug report. If not no device is shown, while the host KVM process consumes all cpu cycles assigned to it (2 cpu's in this case) and the client shows not cpu power used. My guess this is specific to this device (a sound device on the graphics card, HD5440). The graphics device and an USB device in passthough both work without problems. When removing the sound device no high cpu usage is shown on the host. Adding the sound device again, high cpu usage is shown on the host. The host is a Quantal server installation. # lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 12.10 Release:12.10 # apt-cache policy qemu-kvm qemu-kvm: Installed: 1.2.0+noroms-0ubuntu2 Candidate: 1.2.0+noroms-0ubuntu2 Version table: *** 1.2.0+noroms-0ubuntu2 0 500 http://nl.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ quantal/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 Package: qemu-kvm 1.2.0+noroms-0ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-17.28-generic 3.5.5 Uname: Linux 3.5.0-17-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.6.1-0ubuntu3 Architecture: amd64 Date: Wed Oct 24 21:59:10 2012 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-Server 12.10 Quantal Quetzal - Release amd64 (20121017.2) MachineType: To be filled by O.E.M. [Bug 1061665] Re: Filter scheduler not respecting the force_hosts hint
I ran into the same problem. It seems that HostState.passes_filters gets called with different data in filter_properties than it expects. The attached patch makes it work, but I doubt it's a completely correct solution, since I don't handle more than one host in the force_hosts list. ** Patch added: nova_1061665.patch https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nova/+bug/1061665/+attachment/3412340/+files/nova_1061665.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to nova in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1061665 Title: Filter scheduler not respecting the force_hosts hint To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nova/+bug/1061665/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1071053] [NEW] Postfix does or doesn't relay mail from localhost to the internet depending on whether I connect via router or via 3G modem
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce: From the command line I type (being x a valid email address): $ sendmail ...@gmail.com and then I type: Bla bla bla . Expected result: with my current configuration of Postfix (which I attach below), it should ALWAYS relay the email. Observed result: If I am connected to the internet via wifi through an ADSL router, it NEVER sends the email If I am connected to the internet via a 3G broadband mobile USB modem, then it ALWAYS works. Yes, I did always check my spam folder. If I telnet localhost 25 and do the MAIL FROM and RCTP TO manually, I obtain exactly the same results. The response is always Queued as .., I never get any error, but the message is only relayed if I am connected through USB modem, otherwise it's silently lost in some black hole. Complete nonsense. I attach my /etc/postfix/main.cf: # See /usr/share/postfix/main.cf.dist for a commented, more complete version # Debian specific: Specifying a file name will cause the first # line of that file to be used as the name.
