[Bug 1322441] Re: QEMU Windows guest unstable after random amount of time
Changing the status of this bug from 'expired' to 'confirmed', since all the way up here in Ubuntu 20 land (in 2020), I have found this bug when development testing my research OS. Random lockups and segfaults, after which the CPU usage of the qemu-system-x86 process sticks at over 100%. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Expired => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1322441 Title: QEMU Windows guest unstable after random amount of time To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1322441/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [ubuntu-uk] Diagnostics tools
I had the same of problems with one of my systems, it kept shutting down for no apparent reason, even after I re-seated the heat sink on the processor. I found that my power supply was at deaths door, once I replaced it all my problems disappeared. I'm not going to tell anyone here that this is the only cause but there are striking similarities with my system and that is how I fixed mine. My power supply wasn't cheap but after all it did solve the problem (by the way my power supply was from eBuyer was a duffer, but they replaced it with no hassle!) HTH Jon 1st Choice Bathrooms. Dust is not your friend, if the fan is dusty say between the metal fins then it works like a blanket, air can't get through and cool the fins down so it gets hotter and hotter. You might also need to apply a fresh coat of heatsink compound. What CPU do you have by the way? You may even want to look at replacing the cooler with something bigger/better. You don't have to go too expensive but you should be able to get a reasonable fan for around ?10 to ?15 online (or possibly nearer to ?20 to ?25 from PC World). Personally I have a nice big Zalman fan... http://www.ebuyer.com/product/120876 It wasn't cheap (traditionally I've not spent any more than about 6 or 7 quid on a fan) but it cooled down my hot Phenom X4 and it's now in the wife's PC cooling down her overclocked Pentium Dual Core. [ubuntu-uk] still having problems with Canon printer.
Hi, Recently I installed a canon ip4600 on my mum's Ubuntu Karmic pc, it's a fairly new machine (having been bought 2-3 months ago from Scan) and it get's updated regularly. We still get problems with the printer though, some days it works, and other days it says there's no paper in it (even if it's got half a ream in it.) It works fine under windows (7 RC) but on 2 separate Ubuntu pc's (my mums and my nephews) it fails to print anything but the test page (and then only after I delete and reinstall the printer on the machine.) I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion this printer is a Friday afternoon built unit, and it needs to go back unless anyone has any suggestions or thoughts that might shed some light on this. As I said it seems to work fine on my office pc running windows 7rc, so I'm a puzzled plumber. I'd be really grateful if anyone has a solution or words of wisdom regarding it. Cheers all, hope you all had a good Christmas and new year. Jon -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/
[ubuntu-uk] New Canon ip4600 printer
Hi all, Bought my mother a new canon iP4600 printer the other day to go on her new Mesh pc (with Jaunty installed.) I updated the machine with the latest of the updates but for some strange reason it refuses to print. I uninstalled the printer and had jaunty reinstall it, print a test page but after a re start it still refuses to print. It's odd because it works via a windows laptop running windows bisto when I plug the usb cable into it. I am only a plumber so please don't make any replies too complicated! Just for my education would this be a problem with the CUPS? Thanks. [ubuntu-uk] laptops and broadband dongles
Hi all, I'm looking for some information. My father in law is looking to buy a laptop and broadband dongle. We've (sort of) found a laptop that we're going to put Jaunty onto but I'd like to know if there are any ISP's we should look at and also any we should avoid? Also are there issues with dongles and Ubuntu or is it going to be plain sailing? Please bear in mind that this is going to be for a recently retired person who has only ever had MS OS's so he definitely won't understand terminal or other technical stuff. I'll probably be the one setting it all up for him. I'd be really grateful for any advice and/or warnings of potential hazards. RE: [Bug 416103] Re: Update Manager freezes.
Hi, This problem was resolved the other day, I'd actually read somewhere about running update manager in terminal so after Ubuntu started up (after running it's scheduled scan) it worked and seems to have fixed itself! There was about a week's worth of updates, so once it had installed it was working great. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
