In my case (see comment #4 above) it turned out that the lack of menu was caused by unnecessary presence of indicator-applet-appmenu in my GNOME panel. Kind of - that puts the application menu on the GNOME top panel, and not where it should be, in application window under the title bar (see screenshot: http://rafa.eu.org/share/public/bamfdaemon2.png ). Have the same issue, however not on KDE, but on GNOME Flashback in 20.04 (on GNOME shell, the menu is present). Filed a separate bug (#1883423) - can be probably merged. [Bug 827080] [NEW] System Freeze Every Start-Up
Public bug reported: Every Start-Up of Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat (10.10) on my Toshiba Satellite Laptop, the whole system freezes a few minutes after Logging in. This is about the time I have to open Firefox (but the problem occurs even if I do not open any software). SysRq+Alt+REISUB has no effect so I have to do a hard restart. This usually fixes the problem (when I log-in again) but sometimes I have to restart in this manner two or three times. I think it maybe a GUI issue. Any suggestions? Dear friend: It just happened to me one time and I am not aware of the possible causes. The only think I can tell you is that it happened to me on a Packard Bell Dot_S netbook after upgrading to the beta version of Karmic. It is remarkable that the netbook desktop change is not working properly since that upgrade. Hi everyone. My name is Rafael Gálvez-Cañero. I'm another potential tester. I was willing to just watch the steps followed by Asmo Koskinen, but given that I was mentioned in his answer to the message I'm answering right now and the last question your message does, I'll step in (if you dont mind :)). Awesome! Will definitely get in contact with you when the testing cycle of 9.10 starts. You can write my name in the same contact list. Everything working fine in 9.04? The answer to this question is directly related to my mail to Asmo and my willing to test upcoming ubuntu-studio releases. My personal area of interest is DAW (Ardour and Jack at least), but in the current 9.04 I experienced a sort of showstopper bug. It seems to be relateed to the rt kernel (the -generic kernel is not affected), smp (booting with nosmp seems to solve the inmediate problem) and the network stack (not loading network drivers or just ifconfig ethX down for your active networks interfaces seems to solve the problem too). According to the bug reports, different kinds of hardware are involved (including amd and intel processors and different network interfaces). I contacted Asmo to ask about the kernel he is using and his integration with the rest of the ubuntustudio packages, hoping to find a solution or a clue about the above bugs and allowing me at the same time to use Ardour and other audio programs without having to choose another distro (Ubuntu is my distro of choice, but i suppose i can live with studio64 for six months until 9.10, if works). Thanks for your advice, although I still haven´t tried to solve the problem with the link that you have provided me -too much work to concentrate in it-, so I´m still using a somehow rude method to restore the tabs: selecting the most usefull locations in the history and selecting open all in tabs by the menu key. But I could read partially the info that was showed there and maybe the problem is related with some of the extensions or complements -it sounds rare, because I prefer put them to my bike more than redecorating my firefox and I hadn´t this kind of problems before-. Well, I´ll try changing the profile to default and uninstalling extensions and complements, but probably I won´t do it until weekend. Only one question: What kind of complementary info do you need? Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-3.0 Release of Ubuntu: 8.04 hardy heron Firefox 3.0.10 (spanish) With previous versions of firefox, I hadn`t problems to restore the tabs and windows which I opened from one session to the next. Since I updated to 3.0.10 version, Firefox ignores this usefull option although I check -EditPreferences - restore the tabs and windows opened in the previous session. I am not having crash or unexpected logout of firefox. This firefox's amnesy occurs after correctly finishing the session and, minutes or hours afterwards, opening firefox. [Bug 224861] [NEW] Evolution address contacts mismatched with Pidgin mail contacts.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I synchronize my Pidgin contacts with my Evolution contacts address agenda. They appears on Evolution contacts but when I open a new email, Evolution do not recognize any email contact! I think that bug is due to the mismatch between Pidgin email field and Evolution email field. Pidgin mapped email contact on Evolution IM messaging field and not on the e-mail field. Maybe, that is the cause of Evolution do not read any contact on its agenda and the synchro functionnality os out of service. Thanks a lot. I confirm the issue of wrong MIME type being sent by firefox. I'm currently setting up an intranet server for a research group. I have installed a PDF manager (Librarian) and am currently trying to populate the database. Upon the upload of the PDF files, I was getting an error message for incorrect MIME type of the files. I hacked the php code to find out what the sent MIME type was, and got: application/binary instead of the expected application/pdf. This results in the file not being recognized by the program as a PDF, thus failure to upload on the site. At first I thought it was a problem with my php.ini configuration, and tweaked all I could find on the matter without results. Then I came across this bug description and actually confirmed that it is likely to be a firefox issue, and not an apache2/php/pdf or whatnot. The PDF files upload without the shadow of a problem using konqueror. My server configuration is: Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn i386 Apache2 PHP5 Librarian PDF manager (http://bioinformatics.org/librarian/) My client: Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn i386 The web browser: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20061201 Firefox/2.0.0.3 (Ubuntu-feisty) All PDF files tested came up with the wrong MIME using firefox, none have yet given me problems using konqueror. The first time I didn't even try to complete the installation when I saw the message of the 'network card not detected'. I have now completed the installation, and I am able to configure the network card then. However, the name of the card is now wlan0. Its name in previous ubuntu versions was eth0 (as in any other distro I have in my box), and in dapper and edgy it changed to eth1 (don't know why). This causes problems in the installation process, you can't download language support in that moment, it has to be made afterwards, once ubuntu is installed. Think of people who don't even understand written English! I am attaching the logs as suggested. [Ubuntu-BR] Nada de rede Ubuntu/Asus K8U-X
Olá Pessoal da lista... Acabei de instalar o Ubuntu 5.10 num micro com rede e audio onboard da mainboard Asus K8U-X. Não consigo navegar nem acessar outros micros da rede e também não há som. Ao rodar ifconfig eth0 esta tudo ok. Ao rodar dmesg|grep 5263 é apresentado: eth0: ULi M5261/M5263 rev 64 at 0001c400, o endereço mac, IRQ 17. Configurei a rede pra ip fixo em /etc/network/interfaces e configurei tb o dns em /etc/resolv.conf mas nada... E o som ao rodar o dmesg|grep 1888 não apareceu nada... Antes de fazer estar pergunta eu consultei as respostas ao assunto *Administração Rede não abre* do *Eduardo Gonçalves (Cuducos)* mas infelizmente não resolveu... Sou iniciante... como devo proceder... Obrigado!!!
