[Bug 1876758] Re: Menu bar missing for various applications
Found the fix on the interwebs - https://ask.libreoffice.org/t/ubuntu-20-04-no-menu-bar-in- libreoffice/53831/2 sudo apt remove indicator-appmenu And then after rebooting there will be some errant entries in the top menu. Press Windows key + alt key and right mouse click and remove the errant top menu entries that appeared. Then the window menus will appear. I totally agree with the poster where I found the fix - With each release of Ubuntu since 14, it gets worse, but he said 10. I thought it got better till 10, then worse after 14. I absolutely hate the newer interfaces and find I have to do more install and exotic configuration with each release, 18 and now 20. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1876758 Title: Menu bar missing for various applications To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-flashback/+bug/1876758/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1776873] Re: Whitelisted allowedURLschemes breaks some desktop apps
With respect, I think focusing on an improved response time for the PRs is missing the forest for the trees. The vast majority of users that experience these bugs won't be the ones to make Ubuntu SSO & GitHub accounts and contribute PRs to fix it. They're just going to get a silent launch failure, and tell their social circles about how Ubuntu doesn't work. For snap's long term success, there needs to be a stronger focus on a good user experience or we're just going to lose users. The only reason we don't see more of the errors now is that the default browser (Firefox) isn't shipped as a snap, and I really don't like being happy about that. Fundamentally I think there needs to be a bigger focus on a user- friendly solution, something like the proposal to make all system registered apps work by default, or anything else like that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1776873 Title: Whitelisted allowedURLschemes breaks some desktop apps To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/snapd/+bug/1776873/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1776873] Re: Whitelisted allowedURLschemes breaks some desktop apps
I agree @cpbl -- there are almost certainly better options available. Maciej Borzecki detailed a good proposal at https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/pull/7731#issuecomment-585721100 (with some follow-on thoughts added by jdstrand at https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/pull/7731#pullrequestreview-362900171), but at this point it's up to someone to implement it. I just did the easy/lazy small Zoom PR, since I'm just an internet rando without time at the moment to develop the real fix. [Bug 1766015] [NEW] Session crashes, returning to login screen
Public bug reported: Sometimes, while using my computer, everything on the screen just freezes (but audio keeps playing) and then a couple seconds later, everything is black (and audio stops at this point), and then I am brought back to the login screen. Judy is a VERY mature library that has been widely deployed for over two decades. As you noted there were reports of compiler optimizations leading to some crashes but a root cause was never identified for those specific reports. Unfortunately, being a library means that there is always additional third party code involved which makes debugging quite challenging. The best suggestion that I can offer at this point is to have you post directly to the upstream Judy mailing list for additional assistance. https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/judy-devel Troy signature.asc Description: PGP signature -- Ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list Ubuntu-devel-discuss@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel-discuss
[Bug 1631191] Re: Display backlight won't turn on after screen timeout
I have same issue as Robert stated above ("Upon waking an Oryx, the screen comes back, but there is an issue where the screen flickers along the x- and y- positions relative to the mouse") Also when this happens there are times my mouse cursor will disappear followed shortly after by complete system freeze up. Also I noticed this seems to occur more often than not when the laptop is running on battery. While it does still occur, it is far less frequent while plugged in. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1631191 Title: Display backlight won't turn on after screen timeout To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-367/+bug/1631191/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1610952] [NEW] upgrade error
Public bug reported: upgraded system from 14 to 16.04. LTS using the online system updates that are regular used by my as this is my workstation. Once finished only one of three monitors would show the desktop and login prompt. Once my password was entered a short dialogue box appeared and it showed I had an error. The screen with in about 3 seconds after I typed my password was able to show the error which was ambiguous, the logged me out. I was stuck with a system that runs my workstation, and unable to login. I chose to use a DVD and run the set-up from a disk, I had done the online update option. Once I did this I was able to work. I did choose to save my previous OS, however now I basally have a triple boot system, as I already had a dual boot, from Debian 8 , to Ubuntu that works fine, now I have a generic Ubuntu that is at the latest version, my set-up working upgraded system which works, and my other Debian system that works, Then I was able to go in and change my graphics card to use the non generic drive and login and set it to a nvida. All works now. current system 16.04. However, once I switch to the opposite configuration from the initial power-up, I experience brief moments of unresponsiveness. I switch between configurations by entering suspend (sleep), either docking or undocking the laptop, and then returning from suspend mode. The unresponsiveness is most often triggered by tooltips appearing in any program, and the system remains unresponsive until the tooltip disappears. The behavior may occur for other types of windows or UI components, but I can't say for certain. When I'm experiencing this issue, the mouse moves and most screen updates still happen (It will cause most video playback to pause, however). However, mouse clicks and typing are ignored or queued up. I'm using Ubuntu 15.04, with the nvidia-355 binary driver. I've used other versions of the nvidia driver, and they have all exhibited this behavior or had other issues. I don't recall having this issue with 14.10, but I can't confirm it. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1494092 Title: After docking/undocking, tooltips cause the UI to become briefly unresponsive To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1494092/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1422016] Re: Kernel panic during system boot with sched_autogroup_enabled = 0
I confirm it's fixed in 3.19.0-031900, it's still broken in 14.04.02 LTS with kernel 3.16.0-30-generic. With further testing, whatever is broken was fixed between 3.18rc2 and 3.18rc3 kernels: Broken: 3.18.0-031800rc2 [1] Fixed: 3.18.0-031800rc3 [2] The number of commits between these two is rather high making it difficult to easily spot what may have fixed the bug; the diff from rc2 to rc3 is 621,132 bytes. The test setup is easy - using VirtualBox, create a new VM accepting all defaults. Install 14.04.02 LTS using all defaults, all very generic. In all broken cases specifying noautogroup on the kernel params bypasses the bug. I was able to record a MKV @100fps and extract two PNG files showing the best I can capture; it goes by so fast that even at 100fps I can't capture a few missing lines. [Bug 1013945]
Created attachment 5918 inactivity slider now uses exponential scale This is only slightly related, but it caught my attention because testing the previous patch was awkward. IIRC, OS X (or GNOME 3, I don't quite remember) has some of their inactivity sliders on an exponential scale. This is much more user-friendly IMO. This patch adds that feature to the inactivity sliders, with an exponent of 2.0, giving more fine-tuned control between 4 and 60 minutes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1013945 Title: Let user select a time of less than 15 mins idle before going to sleep To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xfce4-power-manager/+bug/1013945/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Looks like https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mountall/+bug/1384502 might be relevant to this bug as well. FWIW this has bitten me too. [Bug 1365126] [NEW] Screen Shaking Up Down
Public bug reported: Essentially, my graphics are usntable. The display moves up and down rapidly in a flickering-like fashion whenever I turn on my Lenovo IdeaPad N580 or wake it up from sleep mode. The shaking up and down nearly stops after a few hours of running the laptop, only moving up and down once every 1 or 2 seconds, so that I can still use the laptop, but it still hurts my eyes and gives me a headache. The problem began soon after wiping Windows 8 from the laptop an installing Ubuntu 13.10. Recently, I finally got around to upgrading to 14.04 LTS, but I had to create a boot flash drive because the software updater wasn't working correctly at the time. Anyway, a fresh install of 14.04 LTS fixed the problem for a few days, but it came back again. I don't know if it's from one of the updates released, since it was after updating all of the packages that needed updating, or if it's just a conincidence that it wasn't happening. It's a 64-bit laptop (Intel Sandybridge Mobile Graphics), so I replaced 64-bit Windows 8 with 64-bit Ubuntu. I can't help but wonder if possibly using a fresh 32-bit install would fix this issue, as a very undesired workaround, but I would much prefer a proper update or a link to any drivers or packages that should be installed. [Bug 913273] Re: PCManFM consumes 90% CPU
I had the same problem with Lubuntu 14.04 when I started my computer (a laptop) with a second display. A workaround is to turn off the second display automatically when the computer starts (in an autostart file in /home/user/.config/lxsession/Lubuntu) - I used xrandr --output VGA1 --off since I was using a vga monitor for my second display. I then ran a desktop file then calls a bash file (perhaps overkill) that sets xrandr the way I want it. I think that the key is that you have to get down to one display (your primary display) and then start up the second display. When I do it this way it uses the desktop image file correctly, and my pcmanfm cpu% never goes high. I suspect it is an instance of this bug: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=639777 I'm hitting this as well, with gvfsd-http eventually consuming almost 1 GB of memory on my system, so it's an important bug for me. [Bug 1163068] [NEW] Wifi disconnects after a certain period, then refuses to reconnect
Public bug reported: I've had problems with the WIFI on this machine in Linux since I bought it; I'm not entirely sure if they're driver or NetworkManager related. Under my (relatively) new Xubuntu install, the problem is that my wifi connection will often drop after a time (I estimate around an hour), and will then fail to re-establish. Typically this manifests as showing that the adapter is connected to the network, but not getting any network access (e.g. in a browser, from ping). I find that I can sometimes fix this by disabling the wifi adapter entirely, then turning it back on. Sometimes that doesn't work and I need to restart the machine. I think the disclaimer is enough, and hope the furor over this dies down soon. We have real enemies to fight, and fighting against Canonical (or ensuring it never reaches profitability) will not fix bug #1. [Bug 1085783] [NEW] Kernel Panic
Public bug reported: I've reproduced this bug on two systems (same make/model) I can reproduce this kernel panic by doing the following (from a fresh kubuntu install) 1.) Home directories are NFS-mounted (SSO with kerberos LDAP) $ apt-get build-dep zeroc-ice $ apt-get source zeroc-ice $ cd zeroc-ice-3.4.2 $ dpkg-buildpackage very shortly after running dpkg-buildpackage (somewhere between the patches being applied to the source and compilation begins (I'm not seeing the typical output of ./configure) the system crashes with a kernel panic. I hooked up a serial cable dumped the console to it, so I could catch the crash, and the output is below. Additional: I installed http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel- ppa/mainline/v3.6.3-quantal/linux- image-3.6.3-030603-generic_3.6.3-030603.201210211349_amd64.deb (and its headers). [Bug 179139] Re: Intel Wireless Restrictions: ipw2100, ipw2200 are not Free
Actually, I don't believe I ever requested that Intel change their license. I merely was suggesting that A) it was in the wrong package, and B) that in order to abide by the license the individual be presented with a popup. Of course, while the new license might be sufficient, it is clearly outlined in http://intellinuxwireless.org/?n=faqs=license that the older license for which this report pertains, is still in effect for both of the drivers. QUOTE A. The important point is to make sure that the end user is notified that the firmware component is governed by an Intel license and provided with a copy of the license terms prior to downloading or using the software. /QUOTE There is also mention that a header license agreement could cover their distribution. While I have long since moved on from this, I suspect that the statement All ipw2x00 and iwlwifi firmware files now have appropriate licensing. is actually incorrect as outlined in the link: QUOTE Q. The license for the binaries needed with the newer projects (ipw3945 and iwlwifi) seems much cleaner than the license for the ipw2100 and ipw2200. Can you change the terms of the older license? [ ipw2100 and ipw2200 specific ] A. Unfortunately, no. Those binaries contain intellectual property licensed from third parties, and Intel must follow certain contractual obligations in licensing for those components.
