[Bug 61176] Re: Inconsistent use of Icons
I'm a big fan of the tango project, I really like the guidelines and the resulting icons. Tango icon theme is really nice, so was Tangerine. And the new Gnome icon theme is even better. So I'm all for getting more of the deskop tangofied. BUT: I never understood why tango was used as a fallback for human, the two styles doen't fit each other. Ubuntu having it's own visual identity, blah blah... yeah I can understand that but the Human theme is miles behind both tango-icon-theme and gnome-icon-theme... and it's not following the tango guidlines. Do you really plan to do Human icons for all those apps which have tango themes right now like (as travis mentioned) Gimp or OOo? IMHO Ubuntu would do best with the following: reuse Human again for edgy but drop it after that release in favour of a small add-on icon theme which inherits most icosn from the default gnome theme. This way ubuntu could get its identity (color of folders etc) but still fit with the majority of upstream artwork. -- Inconsistent use of Icons https://launchpad.net/bugs/61176 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 61267] Re: xlibmesa-glu-dev is not available in Edgy
This is intentional. Debian Sid does not provide xlibmesa-glu-dev either, and we realigned (mostly) with Debian Sid's packaging at the beginning of the Edgy dev cycle. $ apt-cache rdepends xlibmesa-glu-dev shows that no packages depend on xlibmesa-glu-dev directly, and checking $ apt-cache show freeglut3-dev |grep ^Depends demonstrates that xlibmesa-glu-dev | libglu-dev is required. libglu1 -mesa-dev provides the latter alternate, and indeed freeglut3-dev installs just fine on this current Edgy machine. ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Unconfirmed => Rejected -- xlibmesa-glu-dev is not available in Edgy https://launchpad.net/bugs/61267 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 61235] Re: USB mass storage stops working after a while
I can confirm this happening on two Centrino Duo laptops. The problem is quite fascinating in my testing: (fascinating meaning that the ubuntu kernel team should probably reach for aspirin before reading on) (1) It happens only when certain USB mass storage devices AND certain USB controllers are combined. A RockChip USB MP3 player and the Centrino Duo causes this to happen, while a Sandisk MP3 player (or a no-name external hard drive) and the same USB chipset does not cause the problem. (2) The problematic device, when connected to my NForce3 based desktop running an identical Ubuntu setup, does not cause this problem. (3) The problematic device connected to another different brand laptop using the same USB chipset causes the problem. (4) Under Windows XP, everything works happily. (5) rmmodding ehci-hcd (disabling USB 2.0) prevents the device from unmounting or disconnecting, but transfers still stall and fill dmesg with abundant errors fairly quickly. (6) Using ehci-hcd, if you dd from the block device, everything works fine with a bs=xxx where xxx < 900. Go above 900, and the device disconnects. ** Changed in: linux-source-2.6.17 (Ubuntu) Status: Unconfirmed => Confirmed -- USB mass storage stops working after a while https://launchpad.net/bugs/61235 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 58221] SRU proposal: #58221 backports pocket should not have translation stripped
Hi Matt, I propose to fix https://launchpad.net/bugs/58221 in Dapper. Impact: translations in dapper-backports packages are currently stripped off. However, the dapper langpacks cover dapper and dapper-updates, not -backports, thus you currently get wrong translations. Patch: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/dapper/+source/pkgstriptranslations/+bug/58221/comments/2 Simply checks the distribution. Only affects the build scripts, so at worst the build fails (if the code has any syntax error) or translations get erroneously stripped (which is no regression from the current state). Status: applied in Edgy some days ago, but since we do not have edgy-backports yet, this was not tested on the buildds. I did test it locally, of course. -- backports pocket should not have translation stripped https://launchpad.net/bugs/58221 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 56484] SRU proposal; #56484 hal does not detect non-ATAPI CD-ROM drives
Hi Matt, I propose to fix https://launchpad.net/bugs/56484 in dapper. Impact: hal does not detect drives whose device file name ends in numbers; this particularly affects non-ATAPI CD-ROM devices (/dev/sr0) and floppies (/dev/fd0). (Please look at the bug duplicates for confirmation that dapper is affected as well). Apparently this worked fine in breezy. We have a request from the support center to fix this in Dapper. Patch: http://librarian.launchpad.net/4313504/16-nonpartitions-ending- in-nums.patch While this is not a nice an general solution for future upstream versions, it is a very conservative and cautios solution. Hal's current logic is flawed: if a device ends in numbers, then the code assumes it's a partition on a drive and takes dirname(drive name) as the parent sysfs device. However, in the case of e. g. /dev/sr0 (which is a drive and not a partition), the parent of /sys/block/sr0 is /sys/block which is not a valid sysfs device, and thus the device is discarded with 'no parent'. According to Scott James Remnant, sysfs gurarantees that /sys/block/foo are drives and /sys/block/foo/bar are partitions, thus the patch just special-cases the flawed logic and re-sets the 'is_partition' flag if the device name is a direct entry in /sys/block (as opposed to a subdirectory of a /sys/block/ dir). Status: Applied in Edgy some weeks ago, tested with appropriate hardware, no reported regressions.
