[Bug 87579] readahead should be skipped during resume from disk
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: readahead Description of the problem When resuming from suspend to disk readahead still precaches its full list of files (which includes various files used by xorg and gdm). Given that resumption will probably flush or prime the caches itself, this just leads to work that will never be used being done which slows down a resume... I would like to request a wishlist enhancement that readahead not be run if it is detected that a resume from disk is going to happen (while some of of the cached files will be used before the resume, I suspect it is easier to just skip the readahead rather than go to the lengths of determining what those files are and only caching those). ** Affects: readahead-list (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- readahead should be skipped during resume from disk https://launchpad.net/bugs/87579 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 84602] Re: Eclipse + pydev
I now use sun's implementation of java + eclipse and pydev (not from the repos). Stability wise it's far more bareable. If feisty is released with pydev as it is that'll be a disaster. To fix this i would suggest that on apt install ecplise, the java runtime dependency would be sun's implementation instead of the gcj. Those who wanted pydev could use eclipse's software update for getting the most recent pydev instead of having it as a package in apt. I don't know if this is doable from a maintenance and license point of view but it's the only alternative for having it usable. Cheers. [Bug 87584] Gnome-panel launchers cause shared pgid
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: metacity All applications launched from gnome-panel launchers, menu, or alt-f2 share the same pgid. Gnome developers claim this is not typical behavior for the panel, so may be a result of an Ubuntu customization. The same applications launched from the terminal do NOT share PGID. This is a problem for several reasons (some highlighted in this forum thread: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=347023): 1. Pressing Ctrl+C in Matlab with shared PGID closes gnome-panel. 2. fbpanel cannot raise applications via the taskbar with the shared PGID (it can raise applications fine if they don't share PGID). The applications receive focus, but do not raise. This may also tie into metacity, as it may not be a problem with other window managers, but again I think it is Ubuntu-specific. Note that the windows properly receive focus, they just don't raise. 3. Python's IDLE environment fails to raise the shell window when that window receives focus (e.g., by pressing F5) after the initial opening. This is only true if running metacity, e.g., xfwm4 properly raises that window each time it receives focus. I submit this as a single bug report, because it appears to be an issue in how the customized gnome build Ubuntu provides handles raising windows and sending focus when applications share a pgid (which is really a metacity problem, but it is compounded by the odd gnome-panel behavior). This is true at least in release 6.10. ** Affects: metacity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Gnome-panel launchers cause shared pgid https://launchpad.net/bugs/87584 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 84084] Re: SuperTux 0.3.0 is officially unsupported!
I should maybe point out that DJ Wings is in no way affiliated with the SuperTux project, although his/her posts on the Wiki and the Mailing List might make people believe otherwise. Citing from the release notes, SuperTux 0.3.0 [is] a preview of SuperTux Milestone 2 [... and] is by no means complete, but the game is already fun to play. So, having it in the unstable/experimental branches of distributions is great, because that's just what it is: An unstable/experimental version meant for playtesting the engine and for doing compatibility testing. My advice for stable branches would be to ship it as a separate supertux2 package, because 0.3.0 will grow up to be Milestone 2, a version incompatible with SuperTux MS1 and with vastly different hardware requirements. Please don't let some angry users deter you from keeping up the good work. [Bug 68300] Re: adding songs to ipod shuffle doesn't update iTunesDB properly
I added a ton of information about this problem directly on the gnome bug report. Thought it would copy here, no such luck. Anyway if you look there you can find dumps of the shuffle data structure. This should allow fixing of the problem even for those without shuffles. From looking at it myself, I am pretty sure that the problem is that rb does not write the iTunesSD file. This is a file that is on every ipod but only used on the shuffle, so other devs have not bothered with it. So when you open gtkpod it senses that iTunesSD is not written to and constructs the iTunesSD file from the info in the iTunesDB file. This would make it shuffle specific. I hope apple in a firmware upgrade makes the other ipods use this file. It would make all of the ipods easier to support and force the devs to do it right. For the record, banshee does write it perfectly, but it does not have transcoding and is missing the browse feature of rhythmbox and itunes. -- adding songs to ipod shuffle doesn't update iTunesDB properly https://launchpad.net/bugs/68300 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 87593] Fiest 7.01 installation disk partition util broke
Public bug reported: Fiest 7.01 Herd 4 installation disk partition util doesnt work for me when i have both of my Sata drives plugged in at the same time. In edgy 6.01 it didnt have any problems detecting both drives(both 80 gig maxtor sata drives on my built in Nvidia raid controller), and showing the correct information and giving me the normal choices for partitioning. In feist herd 4, the partitioner loads after a long delay, with corrupt information on the first disk(sata0), which has a windows install on it, as well as on (sata1) that has been formated with a linux file system. It never gives me the choice for manual or guided install. It starts giving me the choice to write the changes that have already ben made, which are jiberish lol. If i unplug one of the drives, the partitioner seems to load normally in good time, giving me the option to use guided or manual install like i believe is the norm. [Bug 87607] gnome-session-properties /Sessions tool/ doesn't allow to autostart programs
Public bug reported: Hi, I am using Ubuntu 6.10, kernel ending 11, 32 bit system. gnome-session- properties is a program which is accessible through System-Preferences-Sessions. I try to autostart Firestarter and skype through this tool. I add paths to Startup Programs and I see them listed there. Then I close gnome-session-properties by clicking close button in the lower right corner and start it again and skype and firestarter are not there - they disapeared. After restarting machine those programs do not start automatically. I tried starting the tool through System-Preferences-Sessions and by typing sudo gnome-session-properties and the effect was the same. Firestarter and skype don't autostart and they don't appear in the tool after I restart it. Otherwise I can start Firestarter and skype from Applications menu and they work properly. The only thing that is different in my system than it was installed by default is that I have switched my SATA drives - when I was installing Ubuntu I had only one drive. Now I have two drives and the /physical/ drive on which linux is installed is B, windows drive /physical drive/ is A. Public bug reported: Folks, 6.06LTS was fine with this video combination yet with 6.10, I cannot get better than 1024x768 because the xorg.conf limits it to this. Also, althought it does not remain on the screen long, I get an unsuported display mode during the bootup/X startup that is probably related to the erroneous default rates specified with the Generic Monitor configuration.
