[Bug 87737] [apport] gaim crashed with SIGSEGV in gaim_gtk_buddy_icon_get_scale_size()"

2007-02-25 Thread Rich
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gaim

1) Log in using Gaim to connect to an AOL/AIM account using a SOCKS proxy (by
SSH, in my case).
2) Lose internet access.
3) Regain internet access after several minutes, thereby causing the SSH tunnel
to notice it had a loss of connectivity and die.
4) Gaim will crash.

[Bug 87249] Re: wireless card not detected/enable by default on MacBook Pro

2007-02-25 Thread Matt Galvin
After a clean install and installing the various packages one by one I
found that it has nothing to do with depmod apparently. I just happen to
always install fglrx along with kernel restricted modules. All that it
is is that the restricted modules are needed in order for the wireless
networking to work.

So to get wireless networking working on this machine it was a simple:

sudo apt-get install linux-generic

which brings in all the linux-restricted-modules-generic stuff. We
should probably change the bug description to reflect this.

linux-restricted-modules-generic required for wireless networking on
MacBook Pro.

Do you mean "libpango1.0-0-dbg"?

$ sudo apt-get install libglib2.0-0-dbg libgtk2.0-0-dbg

It was slightly harder to crash now than previously.

$ valgrind -v --tool=memcheck --leak-check=full --num-callers=12 --log-

Totem has been crashing regularly - or worse still causing a system lock
that I have to "crash" out of by resetting the computer. Alt-F2 and

[Bug 82927] Re: feisty fawn no network connection

2007-02-25 Thread Filip Palm
I have a similar problem with a forcedeth ethernet card.

* If i have set my static IP-adresses with network-admin nm-applet keeps
on saying that i have no network connection.

* If i then empty the interfaces file in /etc nm-applet keeps looking for a
network connection and after a while it says that i have one, it finds my card
but i don't have a connection due to that
i need to configure the IP-adresses statictly.

This feels like hight priority bug, for me its not that hard to just remove
network-manager but for new ubuntu people its a showstopper to not have
internet connection. Okay yes there is a connection but every program that
supports network-manager i need to switch off the "Work offline" thingy to get
going and thats not easy for new people eather.

[Bug 86065] Re: setxkbmap only effects newly started applications

2007-02-25 Thread kipeloff
I have the same problem on Feisty at KDE, multilangauge support does not
work for me om text editors (Edgy is working fine with the same config).

Gnome was working fine 3 days ago too, but the last thing I have
noticed, that you cannot switch language, if you will push to 'language'
option, default settings are not changing. I can switch language
manually to required, multilanguge typing then works, but default
settings is displayed (that is not equal with particularly used
langauge)/

[Bug 87745] Root fs on LVM fails to boot

2007-02-25 Thread Andreas Simon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lvm2

Having the root filesystem on LVM fails to boot on current feisty.

I am not sure this is a duplicate of either #85617 or #83832. 85617
could be a bootloader misconfiguration and 83832 involves LVM on RAID.

What happens:
During boot, the system hangs for a couple of minutes and then presents a
BusyBox with the only error message being "/bin/sh: can't access tty; job
control turned off", which doesn't seem to be related to the problem at hand.
At this point there are no lvm devices under /dev.

When I do 'lvm vgscan' followed by 'lvm vgchange -ay; exit' the boot
process continues as expected and everything is working fine.

(Currently I mount usually with 'break=mount' appended to grub's kernel
line to circumvent the several minutes long timeout)

More details:
My root filesystem is on a simple LVM on an IDE harddisc.

The bootline from grub's menu.lst is
/vmlinuz-2.6.20-8-generic root=/dev/mapper/main_vg-root_lv quiet splash
and the rootfs line in /etc/fstab is
/dev/mapper/main_vg-root_lv / ext3 noatime,user_xattr,errors=remount-ro 0 1

The problem started 2 or 3 weeks ago. I am sorry that I didn't tracked
down which new packages caused this.

Yeah, it looks like installation of nautilus-bzr was removed
altogether.

That might actually be a good situation for the time being. Nautilus-bzr
hangs my nautilus and fills RAM because it appears that nautilus tries
to open pretty much every directory in my home dir when it's started.

[Bug 87748] Easy-Codec-Installation gone missing

2007-02-25 Thread Mempf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

I am running an up to date feisty installation and I reinstalled today
and updated fully.

I went to test out the new easy-codec-installation feature again with an
mp3 file but when I tried to play it totem just told me I was missing
the mp3 codec and did not install it or take me to the place to install
it as it has done so in the past.

This also occurs with other formats I do not have installed such as ASF
and xvid.

To my knowledge easy-codec-installation is set to high priority as a
feature and I hope this helps get this problem fixed soon.

Thank you

Thank you!
It was obvious it was that package missing!Who knows what I'm thinking
sometimes:-)
Now it works!

In any case I've installed python-qt3 with:
 sudo apt-get install python-qt3

this package wasn't installed before.
Could you check if it's installed when the control center with HPlip toolbox is
installed first time?
Like this we can assure nobody has this (silly) problem.

[Bug 87545] Re: [feisty]Some accent-related keys don't work after latest Feisty upgrade

2007-02-25 Thread Martin Böhm
Yes, both Dapper and Edgy used those keys without any trouble. Feisty
has also used them well until the recent upgrade. No, the layout
switching in KDE (or choosing any variant) has not helped in any way -
the problematic keys are still not working.

Note that most of the accent keys work - only those that are supposed to
"merge" with the character after them "¨" ˇ" or "´" will be displayed
immediately.

[Bug 87760] Feisty LiveCD hangs on loading

2007-02-25 Thread artir
Public bug reported:

I downloaded Ubuntu Feisty Herd 4 and checked the MD5. And recorded the
ISO to CD. I rebooted. All ok, i get the windows of Start/Install, boot
from hard drive, and that things. I simply choose start/Install and the
bar started to bounce, loading. I can also hard the tipical CD-reacding
noise from my CD-reader. Then , the bar stopped bouncing and started to
load. It loaded this I---I and then stopped. I tried Crtl+ALt+F1, but
the console had no prompt(a black screen). I pressed Alt-F7 and got back
to the hanged loading screen. MY computer is a laptop, so i removed the
abttery and AC to shutdown.

[Bug 67810] Re: bad hard disk noise on shutdown

2007-02-25 Thread Francesco Pretto
Is it possible to produce a version of the above patch that apply to kernel

However, i leaved a post on lmkl,

, regarding this problem. Please, if you are interested in seeing this bug
resolved asap, put some contributions to it, as it seems very difficult to gain
attention on this issue and, in my opinion, it's yet to be determined if this
is a regression of a lack of feature. For example, can someone affirm that this
bug wasn't present in ubuntu dapper drake using libata drivers?

[Bug 87763] killall5 in /etc/init.d/sendsigs should not kill ntfs-3g and other fuse filesystems

2007-02-25 Thread Agostino Russo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sysvutils

/etc/rc6.d/S20sendsigs calls killall5, which in turns kills all
processes. This is a problem if ntfs-3g is used to mount a device,
particularly if the mountpoint is /, whether the divice is directly or
indirectly mounted (e.g. when / is inside a file on an ntfs partition).
That prevents the other rc6 scripts that have to umount the devices to
work properly and it will result in I/O errors. The same issue may
affect other userspace filesystems.
