that the issues are due to nx.)

Even if it doesn't make its way out of the proposed repos, you can do a
hd-install as said for edgy at
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=316093

Make sure you get the initrd.gz and vmlinuz images for feisty from
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/feisty/main/installer-i386/current/images/hd-media/
The edgy files may not work for feisty.

[Bug 93359] Upgrade to Feisty fails on PPC

2007-03-18 Thread Brad Crittenden
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

Upgrading from 6.10 using 'sudo update-manger -c -d' failed with
complaints about apache2. The error message said the machine was left
in an unknown/unstable state.

I then ran synaptic and saw the five apache2 packages were broken. I
completely removed them then tried to run 'update-manager -c -d' again.
It reported it was going to download a large number of packages and
upgrade to 6.10, my original starting place.

/etc/lsb-release still lists edgy as the release.

I have not yet rebooted the machine as I don't know what will happen.
The interesting logs from /var/log/dist-updates will be attached.

The machine is a Powerbook G4 (titanium).

[Bug 54630] Re: wxvlc not stopped by 'close window' button

2007-03-18 Thread Janne Hyötylä
I wanted to confirm that this is still happening to me on Edgy with vlc
version: 0.8.6.release-0ubuntu1~edgy1

It does not happen every time, but apparently randomly. Most of the time
wxvlc closes normally when I click the X icon during playback. But maybe
in one of every 4 or 5 cases I can still hear the sound although the
window is gone. After "killall wxvlc" the sound stops.

I watch mostly .avi files (xvid encoding), so I'm not sure if it happens
with other formats as well. I think it happened also with some .wmv
files (cannot check that very easily because it's not reproducible).

My audio output module is set to "Default", I think that should be ALSA.
My video output module is "OpenGL video output", I'm using the ATI fglrx
drivers that came with edgy.

If you need some more info please ask.

[Bug 93362] Via unichrome video driver misplaces OpenGL viewport

2007-03-18 Thread greg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-via

As reported at http://www.openchrome.org/trac/ticket/91 the Via
unichrome DRI code in Ubuntu Feisty currently misplaces the OpenGL
window somehow. This results in heavy screen corruption and makes OpenGL
applications unusuable. See the screenshots at the openchrome tracker.

The patch at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9965 (Comment
#9) mostly fixes the problem if applied to Feisty's libgl1-mesa-dri
package. glxgears and Google Earth work for me again (Via Epia M1 w/
CLE266).

If you have the hardware, you can test my patched-up packages. I've
uploaded them to http://greg.geekmind.org/DRI/

Would be nice to have this patch integrated into Feisty before release.

[Bug 93361] feisty herd 5 desktop cd installer hangs system

2007-03-18 Thread Mark Florian
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

I tried installing feisty herd 5 from the desktop i386 CD inside a
VirtualBox instance. The VB instance has 196 MB of RAM allocated
(perhaps too little?), and a 6 GB hard disk image. I installed the
system with all the default options (let it use the entire disk and
automatically partition, etc). The final step was completed, but it hung
on the screen "Installing system, 15%, Detecting filesystems..." which
I'll attach a screenshot of.

The entire VB instance hung that is - mouse cursor doesn't even move, no

[Bug 92092] Re: loss of mouse buttons

2007-03-18 Thread sojourner
more info. lost mouse buttons shortly after bootup this morning . XEV shows
no activity from the mouse, movement or clicks , it does show keyboard input.
at the same time in a different terminal, cat /dev/input/mice shows
movement and clicks .
some other things, this did not occur until after the update to xorg7.2 and I
have been using feisty since the start of herd2 , I do not believe it is a low
memory problem I have 2gb ddr and have never maxed it out in feisty . I use
the nvidia propriatary video driver and this has occured with both 9746 and
9755 versions . it has continued through several kernal updates . I do have a
self compiled gdesklets running because the included version dosent work with
64bit feisty (see bug#83922) .I also have wallpaper tray running changing my
walpaper every 10 minutes but there is no corelation with wallpaper changes.

sorry about rambaling on but I'm trying to give as much info as I can.

[Bug 93329] Re: System hangs when Evince tries to open this document

2007-03-18 Thread Pascal De Vuyst
The sample document opens just fine in evince and gv on my Feisty
system.

gv is a X based PostScript and PDF viewer that isn't even used when you show
the document with evince. So I don't understand why the gv process would eat up
all your memory since it is not involved.
Can you attach the output of top showing this problem.

[Bug 85456] Re: zlib segmentation fault in default package

2007-03-18 Thread Erik Reckase
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 90198 ***

I totally agree. I've provided this in the other bug report, but here's
where I've found this particular phenomena happening:

Happens in:
Dapper Drake with k7-smp kernel
Edgy with generic kernel (live CD and installed)
Feisty Herd 4 (live CD)

Does NOT happen in:
Dapper Drake with 386 kernel
Edgy 64-bit

...so if we change the kernel and it works, it's probably the kernel.
How can I get this reassigned to someone who's kernel-responsible? (I'd
use the 64-bit kernel except that MATLAB isn't working well with Edgy
64-bit.)

[Bug 93364] Package Request: Armagetron Advanced

2007-03-18 Thread sharperguy
Public bug reported:

Amragetron Advanced is an enhanced version of the game Armagetron.

It is available at http://armagetronad.net

However, they do not have a debian package for it on their site, and it
is not available in any of the ubuntu repositories.

At the moment the only way of installing it is using an auto package,
using alien to convert an rpm, or compiling from source - All of which
have caused problems at least for me (dependencies etc).

A package should be built for this and put into the latest release (and
then ubuntu-backports for other releases)

[Bug 93366] Video player is starting twice when double-clicking on video file

2007-03-18 Thread Janne Hyötylä
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I'm using Ubuntu 6.10

When I double-click on a video file in Nautilus, the associated player
sometimes starts twice. It happens randomly.
Most of the time it behaves normally, ie. the player only starts once, but
about every 3rd or 4th time or so two players are opened playing the same video
file.

VLC is associated with most of the video types, but it happens also with
mplayer.
I think it happens more often if I double-click very fast and/or move the mouse
a bit during double-click. (but this might be simply an illusion)

[Bug 93348] Re: X11 crashes with a dual-head configuration after lauching for example the screensaver

2007-03-18 Thread Philip Van Hoof
Note that the Xinerama for the "Dual mode for the i810 that does work"
attachment seems to incorrectly tell the window manager about the size
of the second screen: you can't move windows (like an xterm) to the far
right of the second screen (somewhere in the middle, it stops your
moving). You can, however, maximize the window and then it actually will
reach that far right part of the screen.

You can also press buttons and do things in that window, then. However,
popup-windows like menus will be aligned or glued to the far left part
of the second screen. New windows will not be centered correct and
cannot be moved correctly.

This is also why I disabled Xinerama in that configuration (read it,
you'll notice that I commented it out).

ESD seems to cause the problem.
Deactivating it in the audio preferences makes GNOME start normally.
Reactivating it makes GNOME stop reacting for some minutes. After that the

[Bug 15219] Re: r100 lockups during/after dri (radeon 7000, mobility m6)

2007-03-18 Thread Dave Gilbert
I'm afraid I spoke too soon.
In general use on the desktop it has been fine (I even had compiz running).
However, I had left euphoria screensaver running overnight and I've come back
to it twice now humg; this time I ssh'd in and found it was a hung X server;
killing the X server got me control back.
I've included two Xorg.0.log files; the 'hung' one is the one where it was hung
- last thing is a power management command. (To make it clear, it has managed
power saving and running this screensaver - so it's not an everytime). In this
hung state the X server wouldn't let me attach with a gdb or allow me to strace
it to see what it was up to.

I've also included the log from me trying to restart it - it complains
of EngineRestore 'Idle timed out'.

[Bug 93375] Confusing french translation in bash

2007-03-18 Thread Arnaud Giersch
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: language-pack-fr-base

Hello,

There is a bug in the french l10n of bash:

$ export LANG=fr_FR ; bash -c 'hash ls ; type ls'
ls est brouillé (/bin/ls)

$ export LANG=C ; bash -c 'hash ls ; type ls'
ls is hashed (/bin/ls)

IMHO, "haché" would be a better translation for "hashed" than
"brouillé".

Regards,

Arnaud Giersch

[Bug 93374] no sound in edgy (fresh install hda-intel)

2007-03-18 Thread tamman2000
Public bug reported:

When I go to system-preferences-sound and do all the tests, I hear
nothing, and receive no error messages

Here are some machine details:

aplay -l
 List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC883 Analog [ALC883 Analog]
  Subdevices: 0/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 1: ALC883 Digital [ALC883 Digital]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

I am relatively new at linux, so I hope I am not missing something
obvious...

Thanks,
Tamman2000
