[Bug 96912] Re: No window decorator

2007-03-27 Thread Vincent Zekred
I just found out about compiz-gtk:

===

OpenGL window and compositing manager - Gtk window decorator

This package contains a window decorator that uses Gtk to provide a look and
feel similar to that of the metacity window manager.

===

So that probably is the gtk-window-decorator I was looking for. However,
it depends on Metacity, which is of course not what I want on Xubuntu.

[Bug 94282] Re: QT program doesn't select Chinese font correctly

2007-03-27 Thread Michael Ummels
Okay, I have removed my .fonts.conf and issued
fontconfig-voodoo -f -s zh_CN
instaed to activate Chinese fonts (this sets a symlink from
/etc/fonts/language-selector.conf to
/usr/share/language-selector/fontconfig/zh_CN). Still, the result is nearly the
same. The only difference is that Sans-Serif is substituted with ShanHeiSun Uni
now rather than ZenKai Uni. I reckon that you are under a Chinese locale. As
Peng mentions in the bug report, this problem only arises when you are under a
non-chinese locale!

I confirm this bug. I have the exact same problem after updating my

Presumably a gdm problem? The screen goes black before I can login.

I still can't reproduce this myself. I tried selecting 'Epson' for the

down the down-arrow key until the last model was selected. 'Printer',
'PPD', and 'Driver' buttons were all set, and I tried with
LC_ALL=ru_RU.UTF-8.

I hope the Ubuntu package maintainer manages to reproduce this bug and
discover the cause..

[Bug 94282] Re: QT program doesn't select Chinese font correctly

2007-03-27 Thread Peng
I have the same problem like Michael with all fonts other than Sans
serif, Serif or Monospace, which have specific name. And my
locale is en_US.UTF-8 currently.

Actually the problem is quite like in Edgy: you _have to_ use qtconfig
to assign Chinese font for those specific fonts, like Bitstream Vera
Sans, Luxi Sans, Verdana, etc. because qt apps will not use settings
in any fontconfig files for these fonts.

Well, I don't remeber in Edgy if qt apps conform the rules in
fontconfig for Sans serf, Serif and Monospace.

[Bug 96921] [feisty] gnome-terminal emits wrong character for quote on GB keyboard

2007-03-27 Thread Dirk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Press the ´ character (under the @) on a GB keyboard (set in
System-Preferences-Keyboard) requires
two presses and produces a unicode character which is, BTW, unrecognised by the
shell as a single quote!

[Bug 96920] install of ubuntu-7.04-beta-server-i386 fails at apt-install grub

2007-03-27 Thread James
Public bug reported:

When ubuntu-7.04-beta-server-i386 was released I could install it with
no problem. Now the install fails when it goes to install grub if I have
a network connection.

1. Network connected
The install fails towards the end when it goes to install grub. There was

GPG error: http://au.archive.ubuntu.com feisty Release: The following
signatures were invalid: BADSIG 40976EAF437D05B5 Ubuntu Archive
Automatic Signing Key [EMAIL PROTECTED]

a bit before

Mar 27 07:48:24 apt-install: WARNING: The following packages cannot be
authenticated!
Mar 27 07:48:24 apt-install: grub

2. Network not connected
The install works with a couple of problems. The installer asks for proxy
settings even though there is no network. Once the install has finished I have
to manually edit /etc/network/interfaces in the new system to get eth0 working.

It seemed strange being asked for proxy settings when there was no network. As
the installer accesses the internet it would be nice being asked for proxy
settings when the network is live.

[Bug 96402] Re: powernowd doesn't start any process

2007-03-27 Thread Cesare Tirabassi
By looking at your cpuinfo attachment, it seems that the ondemand is
working (or were you using powernowd at the time?).

I noted in your list of modules that you are using the
speedstep_centrino module: this has been deprecated and its
functionalities have been moved into the acpi_cpufreq driver.

To help in the debugging you could use an utility like cpufrequtils.
This package contains 2 programs: cpufreq-info and cpufreq-set.
cpufreq-info gives general device information while cpufreq-set allows setting.
Alternativately, if you know what you are doing, you can use (as root) cat and
echo through the sys interface. For instance to change governor:

echo ondemand /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor

[Bug 92816] Re: [feisty] video playback does not work with kaffeine

2007-03-27 Thread Vladimir Chalupecky
I confirm this problem, it affects DVB as well as DivX videos. However,
I think it is not a problem of kaffeine as it affects mplayer too. Video
playback with auto video driver with xine-ui and gl driver in
mplayer gives a kind of interlaced image where each scan line is moved
with respect to the previous one. CPU usage goes to 100% during
playback.

I think the cause is the fglrx driver as the playback works fine with
radeon driver. Video playback was working fine with fglrx in edgy.

When running kaffeine from command line, the following two lines appear (among
others):
Xlib: extension XFree86-DRI missing on display :0.0.
video_out_opengl: compiled for BGRA output, but missing extension.

2007-03-27 Thread Steven Walter
I noticed that some of the songs I removed from my iPod ended up in the
Trash Can, so their space was not freed until I emptied the trash bin.
Also, you said a song. Is this something that happened only once, or
does it happen every time you try to delete a song?

Do other programs (banshee, gtkpod) delete the songs correctly off your
iPod?

[Bug 96923] No resolution support for 2560x1600 (30 lcd) monitors

2007-03-27 Thread stevecs
Public bug reported:

The newer 30 LCD monitors do not have built-in scalars they only
support two resolutions 2560x1600 (native) and 1280x800.If the input
signal is not one of the above then nothing is displayed. With the
desktop install versions either of these is not an option so no video
is output after the initial grub screen. Support needs to be added for
either one of the above to allow home users to install ubuntu who do not
have another monitor available.

Re: [Bug 94282] Re: QT program doesn't select Chinese font correctly

2007/3/27, Peng [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

[Bug 69937] Re: Ubuntu 6.10 installation crash

2007-03-27 Thread Colin Watson
Duncan, please leave ubiquity bugs alone until you have more experience;
this isn't a parted bug at all. partman quit perfectly normally, and
that wasn't the source of the error here.

Adrastos (and also Chad, from a duplicate): It appears that the kernel
encountered too many errors when trying to write to your hard disk and
gave up in order to avoid causing further damage. This is often due to a
faulty hard disk, and at any rate isn't an installer bug as such. It may
help to check whether the hard disk is old and in need of replacement,
or to move the system to a cooler environment.

[Bug 96925] latest 915resolution doesn't detect 1400*1050 screen mode

2007-03-27 Thread Gerhard Kremer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: 915resolution

In Edgy, the command 915resolution -l correctly listed the
1400*1050, 32bpp mode of my laptop, so I could use that resolution
without problems.

What happens:

In Feisty, the 1400*1050, 32bpp mode is not listed at all, so I have to
work at 1280x1024, which is hard on the eyes (badly aliased fonts,
etc).

What should happen:

The output of 915resolution -l should list

Mode 5c : 1400x1050, 32 bits/pixel

as before. This way, one just has to write the info in the 915resolution
config file and work at the computer's best resolution.

In Feisty, the 1400*1050, 32bpp mode is not listed at all, so I have to
work at 1280x1024, which is hard on the eyes (badly aliased fonts,
  etc).

  What should happen:

- The output of 915resolution -l should list

+ The output of 915resolution -l should list

  Mode 5c : 1400x1050, 32 bits/pixel

config file and work at the computer's best resolution.

  System:
  Plain Ubuntu Feisty Herd 5 w. 915resolution 0.5.2 and xorg 7.2.0 on a

It worked for me. You may need to reconfigure xserver-xorg so that
your config file gets updated. Use the following command:

 sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

After this, just restart X and it should work. You will still need
915resolution for getting your widescreen resolution 1440x900 or
1280x800 to work, but 1024x768 will now work out of the box.

Right now I am installing new updates - I give after that here also information

[Bug 95394] Re: beryl-xgl missing from beryl and beryl-core (feisty)

2007-03-27 Thread Nick
beryl-xgl was removed from the package at the request of the MOTU...
I'll see if I can get it reinstated for a future release (as I
understand it, the problem was that it statically links against it's own
version of Mesa - linking against the version of mesa provided in
Ubuntu could be a workable solution).

resolution works perfectly for me. Thanks! It's nice to be able to do
all my presentations on ubuntu now :-)
