In gutsy, this should close bug 133484 which has already two duplicates.
Without the fix the package simply doesn't cope with OpenOffice.org 2.3.

[Bug 133647] Re: Please sync xserver-xorg-video-avivo (universe) from Debian experimental (main)

2007-08-20 Thread Tormod Volden
The changes in the package are too many to list here. Basically the old
version hardly works on any cards, while the new version is quite
useable for many cards.

This package is included for testing only, and only makes sense if it is
reasonably up-to-date with the current development version. It is only
used by people who would know what they are doing, and not for
production use. Installing the package does nothing to your system, you
would have to manually configure xorg.conf to use it.

I think the release of this package must be treated a little outside the
normal freeze exception process. The alternative to not update it should
be to remove it from the distribution, which would not be fair for the
upstream developers and the Ubuntu users who want to help them.

[Bug 89711] Re: amarok hangs on start

2007-08-20 Thread Duncan
@Jeff:
Yeah, the find pattern matches anything with amarok in it. Heck, I didn't even
have a collection loaded, I was just using Amarok to play a stream.

I have rebooted since my last update, and Amarok 1.4.5 is happy again.
I did see a reference in strace to a shared memory operation getting
denied, and that's where the strace stopped. Of course, it's working
now, so I can't reproduce it. I -think- it was ENOPERM.

[Bug 133787] My Yahoo suddenly started saying browser not officially supported

2007-08-20 Thread Daniel MacDonald
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

I have My Yahoo set up as my start page. I have been using it without
problems since install and then I opened up FireFox one time and I am
greeted with a message saying that my browser is not officially
supported. It then suggests to download one of the supported browsers -
which of course, firefox is in the list.

I have not made any changes or installed any upgrades or programs,
altered any settings at all. It just happened.

[Bug 133786] Bus error when running Firefox or Epiphany

2007-08-20 Thread xtknight
Public bug reported:

Using Gutsy amd64 (08/21/07) I have problems running Firefox and
Epiphany, among other programs like vmware. I suspect the root of the
problems is the same thing.

Firefox: "Bus error (core dumped)" [this is all the output I get]
Epiphany: Begins to start ("Don't Recover" or "Recover" session message
appears, and then exits with this after you press one of the buttons: "Bus
error (core dumped)")
VMware: ldd: exited with unknown exit code (135)
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Attached is a crash dump of Firefox.

Konqueror runs fine without issues. This seems to be some kind of
GNOME/D-Bus problem.

[Bug 133784] saods9 is way out of date wrt upstream (4.0b7 vs 4.13)

2007-08-20 Thread Joe Harrington
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: saods9

The saods9 package, which provides ds9 and the xpa programs, is way out
of date and has not changed in some time. The current release is 4.13.
4.0b7 crashes when the most basic xpa operations are executed in, e.g.,
the numpy astronomy tutorial (example in section 1.1 of tutorial makes
it die). Please update to 4.13, which works fine with the tutorial.
The tutorial is here, fyi:

[Bug 131557] Re: [GUTSY] mozilla-thunderbird crashed

2007-08-20 Thread gomek
I think I've found a workaround. I deleted my ~/.mozilla-thunderbird
folder after backing it up. I opened thunderbird, giving it a fresh
~/.mozilla-thunderbird folder. Using
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird#Files_and_folders_in_the_profile
as a reference, I copied the files over to the new folder that I needed
and reinstalled my Lightning and Provider for Google Calendar
extensions. Thunderbird doesn't seem to crash anymore. I'll report
back if it does.

However, I can't seem to add my calendar back to Lightning...

0280: 14e4:4320 (rev 03)
Subsystem: 1057:7010
which is OK under Microsoft and did work under some previous Debian kernel

Upon loading the bcm43xx driver or alternate ndiswrapper route, there is
related by:
$ iwconfig
eth1 IEEE 802.11b/g ESSID:off/any Nickname:"Broadcom 4306"
  Mode:Managed Access Point: Invalid
  RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Link Quality=0/100 Signal level=-256 dBm Noise level=-256 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
  Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

Subsequent parameter setting commands use iwconfig fail to alter this
configuration.

In contrast there is complete success with the RALINK wireless with rt2500
driver, using the
$ sudo iwconfig ra0  PARAMETER
changes.

So since this 14e4:4320 worked earlier under Debian and iwconfig is sane
for the RALINK wireless, this is some combination of ingredients
problem.

[Bug 23917] Re: gksudo GnomeUI Warning

I just did a clean install this evening and I've got this bug. Never
seen it before on either of my computers, both of which run Ubuntu

I've got a clean install of 6.10 with all current updates, plus some gui
configuration packages that I've been installing/removing (the gnome art
one, pixmap, gnome splashscreen manager, all of which I've also removed)
and the ntfs-3g package.

[Bug 133779] CUPS printers disappear every time

2007-08-20 Thread stiv2k
Public bug reported:

This problem has been ongoing for at least a month now. It is not
printer-specific, as the same thing occurs with my old HP PSC 1310 and
this new Lexmark X1270. What happens is I will add the printer, it will
work fine for a couple hours, I'd go out and do something, come back,

my setup is as follows:
- The printer is connected to my server running Feisty attached via USB cable

[Bug 124743] Re: Sony Sixaxis Controller does not work over bluetooth in Feisty

2007-08-20 Thread dobey
According to the sixaxis bluetooth page
(http://www.pabr.org/sixlinux/sixlinux.en.html), yes, the accelerometer
data is not yet supported. Also not supported yet are battery status,
LEDs, remote wake-up, and bluetooth encryption. The accelerometer is not
supported in USB either. In USB mode, most of the buttons so show up
with analog support through the different axes. However, they also have
digital button signals.

I probably would suggest trying snes9x instead of zsnes. I've not had
any luck getting the ps3 controller to work with zsnes or fceu, however,
the analog sticks and all of the buttons, except for select, do seem to
work in snes9x. Select appears to be the 17th digital button on the
controller, and joydev seems to be limited to 16 digital buttons. I've
mapped the PS button to select instead on my machine.

That said, I haven't gotten the device to work over bluetooth on my
feisty install. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, or if it's
just not working because of the kernel, or if the device itself is
having a problem. I can get it to pair just fine, but the button press
data fails to get sent over bluetooth to my machine.

[Bug 133559] Re: Turion TL-58 doesn't seem to use p-states

2007-08-20 Thread Matthew Garrett
powernow-k8 appears to load and looks like it's working - it has
different voltages for each speed. The voltage and frequency tables are
provided by your system BIOS, and will not be overridden by the kernel.
P states are just another name for voltage and frequency scaling, and it
looks like they're working fine.

[Bug 82439] Re: crash in operapluginwrapper

2007-08-20 Thread AdrianTM
That's cool, I understand that Opera is closed source, but my problem is
Gutsy related, in Feisty although it doesn't work great (flash plugin
crashes from time to time) still works while in Gutsy any page that has
Flash maximizes CPU so I need kill operapluginwrapper everytime I forget
to turn the plugins off.

I understand that there are 3 pieces of software here out of which 2 are
closed source: Opera and Flash Player, however the combination Opera +
Flash + Feisty works (not great -- but works) while Opera + Flash +
Gutsy is disaster... so maybe there's something that's Gutsy related.

[Bug 86162] Re: Desktop halts loading when startup sound is played

2007-08-20 Thread Stephen Gornick
Well, the desktop no longer halts during startup ... but that appears to
be because the startup "Log in" system sound is not played.

I do get a successful "test" of Sound playback in gnome-sound-properties:
  System -> Preferences -> Sound
then press the Test button for Soundplayback under Sound Events.
(gives an audible continuous tone)

And I can manually play the startup system sound:
Select Sounds tab,
then click Play button next to "Log in" sound.

However, the sound does not play automatically on startup/Log In.
Similarly, the "Log out" sound does not play automatically on shutdown
either.

In my troubleshooting, I could get a desktop "lockup" to occur by re-
playing the sound before the previous play had completed. For
instance, shortly after pressing the Play button to play the "Log in"
startup sound, if I press Play again it will make the desktop
unresponsive (i.e., I can move windows but cannot close gnome-sound-
properties nor laun. It isn't just the same sound -- I can get the same
lockup to occur by pressing Play for the "Log Out" sound while the "Log
in" sound is still playing. Killing esd from a psuedo-terminal (CTRL-
ALT-F1) makes the app responsive again.

So, the symptom I reported (gdm halts when Log In sound plays on
startup), but the root cause (gdm becomes unresponsive due to sound
problems) persists.

Is there anything else I can do to help identify where the problem might
be?

Gutsy i386 on HP Pavilion zx5000 (zx5078cl)

[Bug 124743] Re: Sony Sixaxis Controller does not work over bluetooth in Feisty

2007-08-20 Thread Francisco Athens
Some additional observations:
*It seems the pressure sensitivity for the buttons has been disabled so they do
not show up as axis on jscalibrator.
*Though the two anolog sticks appear to function properly in JSCalibrate zsnes
will not recognize them (maybe this is a workaround)
*There is still no support for the motion sensing ability in the sixaxis.

I'm not sure if the above issues have anything to do with the bluez-utils or
perhaps something else needs help.
Having to using various utils as root (sudo) to enable this (and perhaps other
bluetooth devices) makes it seem more difficult than it should be.

[Bug 118745] Re: Font sizes in Gutsy are affected by bad X.org DPI detection

2007-08-20 Thread vidd
Here is a silly suggestion:
why not make an option for the user to "auto-detect DPI settings or use the
hard-coded default setting of 96 or 120 (3 options here). This is similar to
"auto-detect keyboard" that I have yet to have correctly identify us-english.
Explain on the option selection section what the risks are of auto-detecting
(fonts may appear large/small if autodetection fails) and have a splash page
with text to show the results BEFORE the setting is saved so the user can say
"nope...that wont work", and choose one of the hard coded sections.
If something cant get get done for this release, then by god use the setting in
Feisty so I dont need to have my screen resolution set to 800x600 (or less) so
i can read a website!

[Bug 133778] [feisty] .kde permissions set incorrectly

2007-08-20 Thread Patrick A. Treptau
Public bug reported:

After installing the "kde" meta-package on a regular feisty install, the
permissions of /home/{user}/.kde are set incorrectly. They were
root:root with 700 and they are supposed to be {user}:{user} 766.

This resulted in a KDE crash in 'kstartupmanager' not being able to
initialize (write) to .kde.

[Bug 126044] Re: Missing /usr/lib32/locale directory

This missing symlink is indeed very annoying - without it you get
messages like:

  (firefox-bin:12074): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
Using the fallback 'C' locale.

Actually the link should look like this:

  lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 Aug 21 03:32 /usr/lib32/locale ->
../lib/locale

[Bug 49644] Re: Selection box freezes xine-ui

2007-08-20 Thread Román
This happened to me since the time when I used to run Debian Sarge on my
AMD K7 desktop, using WindowMaker as the window manager. Now I use a
fresh Feisty install on a new Intel Core 2 Duo laptop, and the problem
is still there, no matter the windowing system (I mention that because,
for instance, when using xine-ui fullscreen on Metacity, it's impossible
to show the "control panel", while there's no problem at all when
running Beryl, so I think that's a problem in Metacity and not in Xine).
It's *always* reproducible. I wonder if it is a bug in the widget system
in which xine-ui is written. I always wished Xine developers did a
rewrite (indeed, an exact clone) using a modern widget set like gtk+,
because I love xine-ui (I don't really like gxine, nor other alternative
UIs).

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!
