Public bug reported:

when changing the monitor frequency from 75 to 60Hz after selecting fglrx and
testing, the mouse cursor becomes invisible, yet still works when passed over
the appropriate entry. On exit from the Restricted driver prog, the cursor
still remains invisible but working.
Monitor - Samtron - Samsung 95P Plus
Graphics card - ATI Radeon X300 with 256 Ram.

[Bug 148057] [gutsy] T60 fails to suspend/hibernate

2007-10-02 Thread Alexander Hunziker
Public bug reported:

I have a Thinkpad T60 that suspended and hibernated quite fine with
Feisty. After updating to Gutsy beta, I doesn't fall asleep anymore, the
little half moon light won't stop flashing and the machine doesn't power
off. Strangely enough, I cannot find any error messages in the logs, can
somebody please help me to debug that one? I will attach my /etc/default
/acpi-support.

[Bug 147921] Re: Document Viewer cannot show .pdf files

 evince --version
GNOME evince 2.20.0

As far as I can tell, all .pdfs (At least I haven't found a .pdf that still
worked after the update)
libcairo 1.4.10-1ubuntu4

I don't know what popler is -- synaptic doesn't report anything with
that name, and apropos returns nothing. How do I find it and get the
version? (Assuming I even have it installed)

[Bug 111355] Re: usb hard disk is not mounted automatically (or manually)

2007-10-02 Thread Jaime
Same problem here, I'm unable to automount my usb drive.
Something related to most recent updates, because yesterday it mounted fine...

Manually mounting (as root) is possible by issuing the command:

sudo mkdir /media/KK
sudo mount -t vfat /dev/sdb1 /media/KK

Hint: The updates available the last two days were:

Also i checked fstab and all partitions listed are now called /dev/sda
etc where as previous to the upgrade they were listed as /dev/hda

i turned my pc off for the night to reflect think about the issue when i
turned it back on again the following day the cd drive was all ok??
but my partitions are still listed in fstab as /dev/sda etc

i know sdxx is used for SCSI disk's i know i do not use SCSI because i
have 2 IDE drives

in total i have 3 linux partitions 5 ntfs partitions
only 1 of the 5 ntfs partitions are mounted in fstab when i try to mount
these i get the error telling me that they cannot be mounted.
all 3 linux partitions are accessable but they are being seen as SCSI i think
therefore my running gutsy install is very slow because DMA is not in use

i will post my log files later any others that are needed

please help

[Bug 88152] Re: [nvidia-glx] Switch user/switch VT causes lockup with compiz/beryl/desktop-effects

2007-10-02 Thread Ralf Nieuwenhuijsen
@Matt Price

Compositing _will_ be enabled by default.
But Nvidia 3d driver will NOT be enabled by default.

So, at the first login, the restricted drivers manager pops up.
It ask, do you want to install NVidia driver?
User clicks yes. It installs, it asks for a reboot. User reboots.

User will now login the 2nd time. Compositing is now already enabled.

==

Possible fix (but MAJOR HACK)
Only on NVidia hardware: Make switching users go back to the login screen.
This for some weird reason does works. (same as System - Shutdown .. - Switch
User)

Another thing: why enable the fast-user-switch thingie by default?
Or better put: why show it when only one user is configured?
Can't the user-switch-applet to patched to just hide itself unless there is
more than one desktop user?

[Bug 148063] Ndiswrapper and kernel panic

2007-10-02 Thread franz
Public bug reported:

Hi,
this is my first post here. I have a problem with ndiswrapper: sometimes when
system is loading, I have a kernel panic and I have to restart manually. This
happens also when system is started and I insert an external USB hard drive.
I'm using Ubuntu 7.04 and ndiswrapper 1.48 (but I have tried also with other
kernels and versions of ndiswrapper). My wireless card is an Asus wl-159g (it
is an USB internal wireless card), that uses a zydas chipset. I can't use linux
native module (zd1211rw) because with this the signal level is too low. This is
the output of dmesg | grep ndiswrapper:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dmesg |grep ndiswrapper

what does mean eth1 already registered?? How I can solve my problem?

[Bug 147921] Re: Document Viewer cannot show .pdf files

2007-10-02 Thread earthforce_1
Late breaking news:
The last update I did may have sort of fixed it - or at least I did something I
didn't before. When I click on a .pdf to open it it shows the grey screen as
usual, but as soon as I change from its default 400% zoom the document appears.
(The document is still there when I return to 400% zoom)

This is still probably a bug, but a lot less severe than it looked
earlier. (Totally broken)

I have not been able to reproduce this on the same hardware with the

[Bug 146290] Re: gimp open from url doesn't work

2007-10-02 Thread Ori Avtalion
This is due to gimp-libcurl or gimp-gnomevfs not being installed.
Since Open Location is a basic feature, gimp should *depend* instead of
*recommend* gimp-libcurl | gimp-gnomevfs.

It's important to have libcurl first, since gnomevfs depends on gnome
libs, and wouldn't fit KDE users.

Somehow apport's metric on whether packages are obsolete is broken.

I think this was a rather subtle bug that I've fixed in daily builds.
I'd appreciate re-testing with the release candidate when it's released
(or with daily builds if you're feeling brave).

[Bug 134791] Re: wrong screen size for VG2230wm

2007-10-02 Thread Xvani
I would like the TV LG 37LB2 added. (or preferably to work out of the
box)

In windows, no specified driver is used (Plug and Play) and it is
identified correctly by xrandr. Still it is impossible (without doing
heavy modifications) to get an output to this screen with the default
displayconfig-gtk.

2007-10-02 Thread Ian Jackson
dejagnu (1.4.4.cvs20060709-4ubuntu2) gutsy; urgency=low

  * Make build-dependency be on correct version of dejagnu.

 -- Ian Jackson [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue, 04 Sep 2007 17:44:04 +0100

dejagnu (1.4.4.cvs20060709-4ubuntu1) gutsy; urgency=low

  * Allow building with no /dev/tty (LP: #127192):
- Pass /dev/null instead of /dev/tty as stdin for make check.
- In Makefile.in's check-DEJAGNU target, create a fifo and use
that as the stdin for runtest. NB we have to not pass it
via bash as bash seems to replace it with a copy of /dev/null
which doesn't work (which I think is itself a bug).
- Build-Depend on the version of expect which doesn't accidentally
close fd 1 and leave it unused. (See Debian #440818.)

[Bug 84096] Re: cpu wasted during animations

2007-10-02 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any bug tracking system from Adobe. I
tried searching for it, but I just can't find it. It'll be great if
Launchpad could interact with their tracker, this way, it'll be easier
for us to contact Adobe devs. For now, I think we can only report it on
their User Forum at

[Bug 148065] Backends could not be debugged via apport

2007-10-02 Thread Philipp Kern
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cupsys

Crashes in the cups backends are reported via apport but could not be
sent because the files in /usr/lib/cups/backend are not registered with
dpkg (i.e. they belong to no package). Furthermore postinst creates
hardlinks which makes dereferencing and then triggering another check
upon the new path fail.

[Bug 147775] Re: Text based installer hangs after installing default packages

2007-10-02 Thread Colin Watson
It's trying to talk to the network. It'll finish eventually if you leave
it there. (This is of course still a bug, though.)

** Description changed:

This bug can only be replicated on recent Acer Desktops. The installer
successfully completes the installation on other system setups.

  Run conditions:

  * Using gutsy gibbon's daily alternate cd image (downloaded yesterday 1st
October 2007)
  * Recent Acer Desktop PC.(Intel dual core 2.0GHz, 512MB RAM, 80GB SATA HD,
DVD/CD-RW Drive)

  Steps to reproduce:

  * Start the text-based installer.
  * Add normal setup information and manually setup partitions.
  * Continue with the prompts until the installer completes configuring and
installing all the default packages in the CD.

  Expected Result:

  * The installer continues to the next step which is installing GRUB.

  Observed Result:

  * The installer appears none responsive and waits indefinitely when done
installing the last package (which is tomboy).

- Probable root cause:
-
- * The Hard-disk drive or DVD/CD-RW drive may have entered into some sort
- of power-conserving sleep mode and must be awakened before requesting
- further data?
-
  Workaround:

  * Restart the PC and manually install GRUB.

  Attachments:

  * dmesg dump
  * syslog dump

Also, regarding the timeout patch, wouldn't it be preferable to have

sufficient, while others may need 20-25s if the connection is really
slow or saturated.

[Bug 137225] Re: [gutsy] [regression] xorg crashes with segfault after having used displayconfig-gtk to set up a second display (new intel driver)

2007-10-02 Thread Thom Pischke
Also having this issue with the Dell Inspiron 1420n after upgrading to
gutsy. Removed the i810 driver and installed the 'intel' driver. Most
stuff works nicely, but 3D was actually faster with the 'vesa' driver in
xorg.conf, and sadly, the dual monitor configuration UI (my main
motivation for upgrading) just crashes and trashes my xorg.conf, forcing
a restore from backup. A bit disappointing, since I bought this laptop
with linux compatibility as the primary motivation.

I'm not too worried, as I know the intel driver and xrandr, etc are all
still under heavy development, but wanted to add my experiences to the
issues. Me too!

Are you sure about this? Because the bug is also in Windows.

To reproduce the bug, it is essential to first attempt to display a menu in
full screen mode. E.g. press Alt+F, then leave full screen mode and try
Alt+F again.

Btw, it would be nice if menus did work in full screen mode - I can't see
why they should be disabled, as it's just inconvenient sometimes.)

[Bug 130937] Re: tracker-search-tool gets no response

2007-10-02 Thread gagarine
I confirm this bug.

When you modify the indexing speed (via System- preferences - tracker
preferences - performance) to a low value of speed (I test with 17) the
result of search comme up very slow and some times (~70% ) this message
show up:

Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application
did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply,
the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

I reduce this value because I'm not interesting by a speed indexing but
this value change apparently the speed of search significantly.
