[Bug 186286] [NEW] nautilus crashes when visualizing a particular icon owned by root on Hardy
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus After the installation of Google Earth, with root privileges, an icon owned by root was put on my desktop. Everytime Nautilus visualizes that icon it flashes 5 or 6 times then crashes. Since the icon is put on desktop, Nautilus crashes at Gnome startup. Changing the owner of the icon file to myself avoids crashes. I tried to change permissions on other icons on the Desktop, but nothing happens. The strange thing is that it happens only with this icon. The icon's file name is "Google-googleearth.desktop" but it appears as "Google Earth" on Nautilus. This is the content of the icon file: [Desktop Entry] Version=1.0 Encoding=UTF-8 Name=Google Earth GenericName=3D planet viewer Comment=Explore, search and discover the planet Exec=/opt/google-earth//googleearth %f Terminal=false MultipleArgs=false Type=Application Icon=/opt/google-earth//googleearth-icon.png Categories=Application;Network MimeType=application/vnd.google-earth.kml+xml;application/vnd.google-earth.kmz;application/earthviewer;application/keyhole; GenericName[it_IT]=3D planet viewer ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- nautilus crashes when visualizing a particular icon owned by root on Hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/186286 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Same here.. Reinstalled hardy, and the maximum resolution is set to 600x800.. like mikko sorri, I've tried dpkg-reconfigure, but it doesn't ask anything about screens any more... [Bug 110585] Re: Compaq Proliant DL360: raid controller should use cpqarray, not sym53c8xx
Hi there, This may benefit others who have also had problems installing Ubuntu Server 7.10. I have just managed to install Ubuntu Server 7.10 on my Compaq DL360 G1 by followed Alex Smith's recommendation above using the module blacklist technique. - Boot from the Ubuntu Server 7.10 CD - At the boot menu hit F6 for "Other Options" - When presented with the boot options command line, append Alex's suggested blacklist command sym53c8xx.blacklist=true - Hit enter to boot. I received an eror to say that the boot option was unrecognised however I was able to see my 2 x 36GB SCSI disks (Raid 1) and partition accordingly. Without the blacklist I was unable to see the SCSI disks in the partitioner. [Bug 86666] Re: Feisty crashes after grub, before boot process, if usplash is enabled (amd64)
Thomas Frederiksen's fix (vesafb module) worked for me. I am on Ubuntu Gutsy AMD64 with an NVIDIA 8800 GTS card (using the proprietary driver). I was finally able to see the bootsplash for the first time since using the install cd six months ago! Previously when I tried to start up the monitor would go blank and report not getting input. I believe the computer just crashed because it wouldn't start up, even if left for interminable periods of time. I tried the vga=xxx settings, and I was able to get some output, but it was mostly just black and white noise on the screen. (Under 24bit color I was able to get red noise before the screen when blank, but I don't think that means anything.) I was forced to simply remove "splash" from the parameters in menu.lst in order to make my system boot. However, allowing vesafb seems to have fixed the problem. [Bug 186257] [NEW] [Gutsy] Xorg initialises with wrong refresh rate
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Xorg expected to start at 1024x768 85 Hz, and Xorg.log reports what this refresh rate choosed, but actually I have 1024x768 60 Hz (in monitor OSD and noticeable at once because of CRT). I cannot fix refresh rate immediately with xrandr --rate 85, this have no effect. For success I have to switch to another rate and then to 85 Hz. And after any change of videomode (e.g. launching fullscreen app with resolution another than desktop resolution, switching to vt) refresh rate resets to 60 Hz but still reported by utilities as 85 Hz Updating xorg from standard repositories has no effect P.S. [Bug 186256] [NEW] [Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy i386 desktop alpha-3+ daily-build] Guided entire disk installation fails when installing onto existing Ubuntu system that should be over-written.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity Daily-builds 24 Jan 2008, 25 Jan 2008, and 26 Jan 2008 all fail installation from Live CD when using the Guided Entire Disk option. These installations were being made onto a hard drive that has an older version of Ubuntu installed on the partition #1 ext3, and the only other partition is the swap partition. During installation, the error message comes up: "Failed to create a file system. The ext3 file system creation in partition #1 of SCSI1(0,0,0)(sda) failed." When I tried installation again (without rebooting the CD), the same error occurred. Then I chose the manual partition method. I used the existing partitions, assigned mount point / to the ext3 partition, asked for formatting of that partition, and the system then installed. (However, I then found another error that was a show-stopper.
