I tried building with the proposed patch, and can confirm that the
resulting cpio binary works correctly with the scripts that rely on the
--owner= syntax.

Thanks,

 through debconf for uswsusp.
And then there would be grounds to have a uswsusp-s2ram package
that should probably nag and complain that the user really should open
a bug against pm-utils if they must use the package.

That would be a bad idea. If we want uswsusp to work with pm-utils by default
(if uswsusp is
installed) then no changes need to be done. But what James Westby and the rest
of them want to do is
allow uswsusp to be installed, and pm-utils doesn't use it unless you
explicitly install AND enable
it. Well this effect could be achieved better through the use of debconf, but
honestly, too many
prompts by debconf isn't pretty, and should be kept to a minimum.

And also, I agree that if we don't have s2ram even built in the uswsusp
package, then we should at
least have a separate package with just s2ram in it.

[Bug 274904] [NEW] gfloppy could not determine current floppy geometry

2008-09-26 Thread komputes
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Hardy 8.04
gnome-utils | 2.20.0.1-1ubuntu5

gfloppy giving error: Could not determine current floppy geometry when
trying to format floppy. Tested on two machines with internal and
external (USB) floppy disk drives. New floppy disks. Both fail.

Personal thought: It's not because floppy disks and modems are no
longer in mainstream use that we should forget about them. This program
worked previously, It should should be fixed and the code should be
expanded (or replaced with something else) to include nautilus
integration; to format any type of inserted media.

[Bug 273792] Re: firefox does not remember saved tabs between sessions

2008-09-26 Thread Derek White
I can confirm this is happening. At first, it seemed like every time I
saved tabs/session, then performed an upgrade to new version, my tabs
would not be restored when restarting and seeing the firefox upgrade
page; and, I believe this is still true, as it has happened the last 3
times I upgraded firefox. However, I am going to stick with the OP's
problem for now.

Again, I confirm this is happening on firefox-3.0 (3.0.3+build1
+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1) [upgraded 1 hour ago]. This is the newer
version that the OP does not have.

I do have torbutton installed, but NO setting is set to
affect/delete/not store non-tor pages/tabs/history. It is set to
Prevent session store from saving Tor loaded tabs but NOT set to
Prevent session store from saving Non-Tor loaded tabs, and the
pages/tabs up were not tor pages and tor was even disabled.

I do have firefox clear browsing history on exit, but this has never
affected tab/session saves before.

Problem happens exactly like Kyle says:
1) Exit  select Save  Quit;
2) Start FF right back up [or upgrade to new version then start];
3) Blank page displayed [or upgrade page].

-Derek

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When playing a track in rhythmbox, if you open the pulseaudio mixer and
terminate the stream, rhythmbox hangs. How to reproduce:

1) open rhythmbox
2) open pulseaudio mixer
3) play a song in rhythmbox
4) terminate the rhythmbox stream in pulseaudio mixer
5) in rhythmbox, do anything: press play, move the time slider, or play a
different song

Result: rhythmbox hangs forever

I don't know what rb should do in this case. It should probably revert
to the stopped state, and if another song is played it should start
again. Alternately, terminate in pulseaudio should behave like xkill
and actually terminate the client program.

** Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

I've been unable to recreate this bug using openoffice.org package
version 1:2.4.1-9ubuntu1 on Ubuntu 8.10. I was saving to a samba share
from an Ubuntu 8.04. It would be helpful if people experiencing this
bug were to indicate the specific package version of openoffice.org you
are using. You can obtain this information via 'apt-cache policy
openoffice.org'. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 44880] Re: test man page minor error

2008-09-26 Thread hggdh
Upstream has stated the following:

As Jim said previously, the man pages are autogenerated from the output
of the programs' --help. The value of keeping the man pages in sync with
the program outweighs the drawbacks of certain formatting problems like
this. If someone wants to submit a patch to help2man for this sort of
thing it will certainly be considered.

As such I am marking coreutils as WONT FIX, and setting help2man as
WISHLIST.

[Bug 222324] Re: Support for panasonic hotkeys missing in Hardy

2008-09-26 Thread James Whitlock
There is currently a updated panasonic driver that is about to be
accepted for inclusion in the kernel tree which is based upon the lately
ill maintained pcc-acpi. This driver uses the same core code but exposes
backlight and input interfaces allowing it to interface better with hal
and gnome-power-manager.

http://marc.info/?l=linux-acpim=14264520623w=2

I'm currently using this driver on Hardy but perhaps some could try it
on intrepid and see whether it's a better candidate for inclusion. Since
it now utilises backlight and input interfaces the panasonic specific
event descriptors and scripts should be removed from acpi-support to
prevent acpi events being processed twice.

 Hello,

Thanks for your bug report. According to your description I suppose the
bug affects Openoffice.org-calc rather than Openoffice.org-impress.

I've encountered no problem when exporting your spreadsheet to pdf using
the same OpenOffice and Ubuntu version. Is the problem you describe also
apparent when exporting horizontal text? In my opinion it could be a
font-specific problem but due to your spreadsheet being read-only, I
 can't specify the font used.

The correct PDF export (from my point of view) is attached.

Perhaps I am just being silly - but I got to the site with the script

[Bug 235022] Re: SIGSEGV while uninstalling Adobe AIR application with Aptana running

2008-09-26 Thread Derek White
It's been awhile...guess I will do a quick follow-up then maybe someone
can close this?

I believe the problem was with Adobe AIR working with my package
manager. For a while after I had this uninstall problem, apt-get would
tell me that there were problems with [Adobe AIR program that I
installed] everytime I tried to use apt-get. I tracked down the file
that was making apt-get install/check/uninstall (whatever it was trying
to do) and removed it. I never had another apt-get error message.

Also, I moved on from OpenJDK and have not had a problem with Adobe AIR
since. I also did a fresh install of 8.04, so...

Can we move this off of OpenJDK and move it to Adobe AIR with apt-get as
an also affects and then close the thread? (If I can do it, I do not
know how.)

[Bug 274913] [NEW] crypttab not updated when building an md-LUKS-LVM root device using Hardy alternate installcd on amd64

2008-09-26 Thread Luke Scharf
Public bug reported:

I built a system with the following filesystem, using the manual partitioning
tool in Ubuntu 8.04 alternate server install CD for amd64:
/dev/sda1 -\
/dev/sdb1 -+- /dev/md0 - ext3 (for /boot)
/dev/sda2 -\
/dev/sdb2 -+ /dev/md1 - LUKS encryption (md1_crypt) - LVM physical Volume -
LVM - root (ext3), /tmp (ext3), /var (ext3, and also swap

(Aside: It took a couple of attempts to arrive at this layering -- I had
originally figured I would put the the encryption on top of LVM, so as
to make booting and troubleshooting easy. However, the layering that I
describe above seemed natural in the installer, and the system only
prompts me for the passphrase once on boot.)

PROBLEM: The problem is that the installer neglected to put any entries
in /etc/crupttab.When I attempted to boot the system for the first time,
it entered the initrd shell.

WORKAROUND: In the initrd shell, I had to run cryptsetup luksOpen
md1_crypt /dev/md1, vgscan, and continue to be able to boot. Once
the system booted, I manually filled in /etc/crypttab (based on what I
had to enter in the initrd shell), ran dpkg-reconfigure initramfs-
tools, and rebooted. After these changes, the system boots normally,
and I got on with life.

SOLUTION: The alternate installer on Hardy Server should write
/etc/crypttab when doing a manual install.

Re: [Bug 261694] Re: kicker crashes after upgrading to KDE 3.5.10

2008-09-26 Thread Gijs ter Beek
Hi,

I doesn't matter if I change viewports or not. They don't disappear.
Also, I've tried to change some settings in ktaskbarrc but it doesn't
change a lot (also, there aren't that much settings that can be changed.
See my ktaskbarrc below:

--

[$Version]
update_info=kickerrc.upd:kde_3_5_taskbarEnums

[General]
ShowAllWindows=false

[Appearance]
ActiveTaskTextColor=255,255,255
InactiveTaskTextColor=172,171,171
TaskBackgroundColor=0,0,0
UseCustomColors=true

-
Even when ktaskbarrc doesn't contain anything, the problem persists.
Both kicker-taskbar-compiz and the regular kicker taskbar show this
behaviour. So maybe it's related to something else. There is two more
things:

1. When I have Autohide disabled, the problem doesn't occur
2. When I lock and unlock the panel, the leftovers disappear, but it
start again after i close a window
3. It doesn't happen for all windows, but I couldn't find out any
predictability in which are and which are not influenced.

Thanks for helping out!

Gijs

and post the settings (and values) from .kde/share/config/ktaskbarrc

If you change viewport/desktop does the closed programs then disappear?

When you tested and had it work with 7.10 was it the same burner? If
not, could you test that? It says it was a write error, so I suspect
it's a hardware issue.

[Bug 256994] Re: Please update bluez-gnome to 0.28 and rebase off Debian

2008-09-26 Thread Emmet Hikory
Installing 0.28 in a hardy environment maintains a working keyboard, and
0.25 in intrepid does not have a working keyboard. As a result, while
there exists a regression in bluetooth input support, updating this
package fails to make the regression worse.

[Bug 221351] Re: TSC Clocksource can cause hangs and time jumps

2008-09-26 Thread Steve Beattie
I ended up writing my own gettimeofday(1) loop program; unfortunately, I
was unable to get it to trigger the RTC problem on my single die quad-
core machine. I've attached the program so that others who saw this bug
can reproduce it for verification. I note that the original upstream
reporter claimed to have more success triggering the vsyscall version of
gettimeofday(1) (i.e. on amd64/x86_64).

I have verified this using a Samba share on an Ubuntu 8.04.1 sever and a
share using an XP SP3 server. (apparently, although I cannot test this,
it is OK on NFS).

Note that I did not get this problem 100% with a small text only odt.
It could be reproduced reliably with a 1.5MB odg document.

[Bug 274920] [NEW] itrepid: rendering bug on kde4 desktop

Public bug reported:

When I have a folder on my desktop - like the 'desktop' folder - and
single-click on one of the items, then a white dot shows at the upper
left end of the first letter. it can be seen in the attached picture.

but leaves the dot. Clicking outside removes the dot; clicking inside
again re-shows the dot.

[Bug 269772] Re: The device the system is running from should not be selectable as a target

2008-09-26 Thread Evan Dandrea
This is already the case by the nature of how usb-creator is designed.
To put it another way, because usb-creator searches for devices with the
storage.removable property set to true, it will never use the device the
live system is running off of.

I've confirmed this in my own tests, but if the disk the live filesystem
is running from is present in your tests, please reopen this bug report
and print the result of the following command (where
volume_uuid_D501_33B3 is the device in question):

dbus-send --system --print-reply --dest=org.freedesktop.Hal
--type=method_call /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_uuid_D501_33B3

[Bug 267682] Re: Hotkeys no longer working in Intrepid on Thinkpads

2008-09-26 Thread Aurimas Fischer
Found out how to fix Brightness Up/Down keys in my account based on Marc's idea:
1. rm -rf .gconf/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/host-`hostname`
2. Set System-Preferences-Keyboard-Keyboard model = Evdev-managed keyboard
3. edit ~/.Xmodmap and remove keycodes 233/234 (if there are any definitions).
These
keycodes in Hardy were sent by Back/Forward keys above Left/Right Arrow keys,
but now
these keys have keycodes 166/167 and are already correctly mapped to
XF86Back/XF86Forward,
so no need to remap them in .Xmodmap.
4. Restart X.

2008/9/26 Dimitrios Symeonidis [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
i don't know if mackenzie agrees, but my suggestion is for you to tell us the
 output of:
 cat /sys/class/drm/card0/dri_library_name

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /sys/class/drm/card0/dri_library_name
r200

Hope this helps.
