Sure it is:

2008-10-14 Thread therebel22
Hi,
in fact, when you change virtual machine settings in virt-manager and click to
apply, on_reboot and on_crash settings in xml domain are lost. it's always
destroy that is set.

It would be great if in virt-manager settings, we can set on_reboot and
on_crash actions ..

[Bug 62620] Re: Panasonic R4: hotkeys and s3 don't work in edgy

2008-10-14 Thread Derek Kulinski
Not sure how much it is useful.
(My laptop is R7 btw)

http://git.myrix.net/?p=pana_acpi/.git;a=tree

With the above module, I can succesfully use brightness controls (without it, I
can either enable or disable the backlight), also the sound controls (volume
up, down and mute) appear to work flawlessly.
What doesn't work is the monitor key, and standby to ram (actually ubuntu
interpid ibex doesn't even give an option in power menu to do sleep to ram).

Sleep to disk works flawlessly (it was working without the module). The
button for sleep seems to start preparing to computer to hibernate, but
then at the moment when the actual hibernation supposed to start, it
comes back.

So in summary, for me everything seems to work (or works good enough)
except the standby to RAM.

Another thing (I should report it separately) is that this laptop
supports but Ubuntu doesn't seem to is economy mode (ECO) (keeps battery
charged to 80% to extend its life), and disabling power on LAN. Those
two options can be modified through windows, and laptop remembers the
settings, but going to windows just to switch is a bit painful.
Especially the power for LAN port.

[Bug 283071] [NEW] Gedit strange I/O Error with sudo

Re: [Bug 281937] Re: [ndiswrapper][RTL8101E/RTL8102E] fails to associate

With wireless security off (but still hidden ESSID) network-manager can
connect to my Linksys router, and I can submit this comment wirelessly.
So while the ndiswrapper configuration may not be ideal, it is working
 in the absence of wpa_supplicant.

which is a strong indication that either ndiswrapper or the used ndis
driver is not providing the necessary extensions for wpasupplicant.

btw, network-manager uses wpa_supplicant even for unencrypted and WEP

[Bug 269083] Re: gnome-power-manager crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()

2008-10-14 Thread janevert
Rich,

If somebody could catch the bug in the debugger then at least the full text can
be found.
It does not necessarily need to come from the g-p-m binary. It could be from
any of the loaded libs or even have been loaded from configuration.

But if this is text then one possible option how it got there is through
a *sprintf call with a too short buffer and no return value checking.

[Bug 283048] Re: Intrepid beta - Many websites refuse to load

2008-10-14 Thread Rich
Are you explicitly sure that this is linked to Intrepid vs Hardy, and
not external factors (e.g. your internet connection, someone else on
your network)?

This sounds like behavior from being near the connection limit on a
card.

What machine is this - what are the wired and wireless cards on the
machine?

[Bug 263059] Re: [regression] 2.6.27-7 sometimes fails to boot (iwl3945 issue?)

2008-10-14 Thread Marcin Feder
I have a similar issue but in my case iwl3945 _always_ crashes on load.
Please, look at the description of bug #275227 (marked as a duplicated
of this one). Do you get the same error message in your dmesg output? I
am curious is this really the same or just related problem. I have also
reported it at kernel.org bugzilla. It seems that the path is already
prepared - http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11746 but I don't
know when it will be incorporated into Intrepid kernel.

[Bug 283068] [NEW] Window switcher (alt+tab) cuts window title

2008-10-14 Thread saepia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

Box that is shown when you press Alt+Tab, sometimes cuts selected
window's title. It happens when you have only 1 window on the current
desktop, press Alt+Tab and Tab again (without releasing Alt). After
second Tab window title gets moved to the right (see attached video).
Problem remains until you do Alt+Tab on the desktop where is more than
one window.

Movie description:

At the beginning there's terminal with recordmydesktop used to capture
screencast. I do Alt-Tab, small box with switcher appears - terminal
thumbinail is only option, there's description [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~

time. At the end there is similar situation with firefox, but
description gets moved to the right.

The above bug 'crashed' my machine. In fact, it crashed my dektop. The GUI
desktop wont load and the log file report says 'screens not found'. This is
related to Xorg and is infinitely frustrating.
Thank God i had my machine double-booted with Ubuntu 8.04. Instead of
implementing the solutions i got of the net, which needed a lot of hacking, i
just backed up the partition and re-loaded Ubuntu 7.10. i need that
distribution because it works well with my netbeans, unlike 8.04 that seems to
have errors with Swing/SWT in netbeans.

[Bug 283079] [NEW] volume step is too large, and cannot be reduced

2008-10-14 Thread Andrew Bennetts
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

I recently upgraded to Intrepid.

When I press the volume up/down keys on my laptop, the volume OSD
appears and shows that the volume changes. Unfortunately it gives me
very little granularity: I can have either 25%, 51%, 77% or 100% going
up from muted, or 74%, 48% or 22% going down from 100%. I almost always
want a volume somewhere in between these values (48% is typically much
too soft, and 74% is typically too loud).

As far as I can tell, the granularity is supposed to be controlled by
the /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/volume_step gconf key, which I've never
changed and seems to have defaulted to 6. That would be fine, but I am
not seeing 6% increments. If I change volume_step to any other positive
integer the effect seems to be the same (increments of roughly 25%). If
I change volume_step to 0, the volume keys still display the OSD but
don't change the value, as expected.

The way Hardy and earlier behaved worked just fine for me.

I can also confirm that stopping either kded4 or the Detecting RANDR

stops working when this service is disabled? I'm guessing KDE won't be
able to detect new monitors and maybe I wouldn't be able to use an

Even when no kernel parameters are passed, the screen becomes blank after
passing GRUB until GDM starts.
v86d is installed and present in initramfs.

[Bug 283082] [NEW] Intrepid: Logitech Dual Action Gampad Detected As A Mouse, Crashes X

2008-10-14 Thread Jeremy LaCroix
Public bug reported:

I have a Logitech Dual Action gamepad. In Intrepid, this gamepad is
detected as a mouse. (If I move the analog stick, it moves the mouse
cursor). If I press any of the action buttons, X restarts. Playing games
with this gamepad is not possible. This gamepad worked fine in Hardy.

In fact, every gamepad I have tried does the same thing in Intrepid, so
it's not limited to this particular controller. I was told in bug #
274203 to report this bug individually for each joystick that fails,
however I think that's very silly as it is more important to fix this
bug for all joysticks, not just the ones reported. This is a huge issue,
there could be hundreds if not a thousand non-working gamepads.

[Bug 283060] Re: Ubuntu wont uninstall from my remove software. i want to reinstall it for some features werent loaded properly. how do i uninstall it?

2008-10-14 Thread Joshua Fallaw
So you have it setup as a dual-boot system, where you choose which OS to
boot when you boot up the laptop? There isn't an 'easy' way to do it,
but you can try this-

First you need to remove GRUB:

   1. Insert the Windows Setup CD into the CD or DVD tray on your computer.
   2. Restart your computer.
   3. Hit Enter to reboot from the Windows CD when prompted to do so.
   4. Type “R” and hit Enter in Windows Setup to enter the Recovery
Console. The Recovery Console will appear and list the Windows OSs
  on your machine.
   5. Select the number corresponding to the Windows installation you
wish to boot into. For most people this will be a “1”.
   6. Windows will prompt you for an Administrator password. Try your
Administrator password or, if your Administrator password does not
  work, hit Enter.
   7. At the Windows prompt, type “fixmbr”. (If that doesn't work, try fixboot
or fdisk /mbr)
   8. Type “exit” to restart the computer.

Your computer should restart using the Windows installation you
selected.

Then you will need to delete the Linux partitions. If you have a
partition editor like gparted, use that, or you can use

Control PanelAdministrative ToolsComputer ManagementDisk management

to delete the partition and recreate it using NTFS. This will make a
new partition though, like drive E: or whatever, so if you want the
whole thing on the default partition (C:), you need to use a partition
editor.

[Bug 283040] Re: right clicking automatically selects something in the right click menu

2008-10-14 Thread Joshua Fallaw
I do not have the NoScript extension. I don't think it would be related
to that, though, since unchecking the 'Disable or replace context menus'
button basically tells firefox to disable the sites JS settings on
right-click. For instance, some sites write a script into the page that
disallows right-clicking so you cannot save images from the site.
Unchecking that button disables those scripts so that you can right-
click and save images or whatever. At least that is how I understand it.

[Bug 199165] Re: Automounting removable storage doesn't always honour the utf8 mount option

2008-10-14 Thread kws
Just an update. I downloaded kubuntu untrepid 8.10 and installed it in VMWare.
After upgrading and dist-upgrading everything seems to work. I have tested this
with my Trekstor Vibez MP3 player containing a folder Café del mar and it
does not show any strange characters in Dolphin. This is good!
I was just wondering if this could be solved in 8.04 as well, as this is still
my main OS on the desktop and I have no intentions (yet :) ) to upgrade to 8.10.

Partition). under the 'Use As' list, re-select the proper partition (/,
/home, etc.) only on the /home partition, leave the box next to 'Format
Partition?' unchecked. This should reinstall Ubuntu, leaving any files
you had stored in your /home partition. (It did for me, anyways) Ubuntu
is sometimes difficult to get installed properly, but I have found that
once it is, it blows Windows out of the water!

[Bug 283004] Re: compiz.real crashed while arranging panel applets

2008-10-14 Thread altery

I've exactly the same problem, just that it happens immediately after bootup (I
don't need to rearrange the panel). Compiz works fine even after the crash. (If
I logout, X doesn't start properly again, but I doubt that this is related).

I'm running Intrepid on a system upgraded from Hardy using the latest
proprietary drivers from Nvidia (177.80).

[Bug 282988] Re: totem-gstreamer crashes when Compiz-fusion is activated (fglrx)

2008-10-14 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please try to obtain a backtrace following the
instructions at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and upload
the backtrace (as an attachment) to the bug report. This will greatly
help us in tracking down your problem.

The crash seems to be a ffmpeg one there, do you get it on any video?
could you attach an example to the bug?

Re: [Bug 282893] Re: It doesn't clean the packages after a partial distribution upgrade

2008-10-14 Thread Orma
I wanted to post it on the Intrepid site, but I didn't know how...
With a partial upgrade I mean qhen there are updates on the beta, and in
Spanish says actualizacion parcial de la distribucion, I guess in English
is something like that.
I use the update manager.

2008/10/14 Wouter Stomp [EMAIL PROTECTED]

What do you mean with a partial upgrade? And which program do you use to
update? Update-manager, synaptic, apt-get. or...? Also which version of
 ubuntu do you run? Thanks.

[Bug 275100] Re: canberra-gtk-play crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc()

2008-10-14 Thread jay bee
I heard the new Ibex login sound the first few times I logged in. Every
time I log in the crash with the login sound message pops up. I now
hear the old login sound each time. I disabled the gnome Login Sound
startup in the Sessions Preferences. This stopped the crash message
from popping up.
