[Bug 62620] Re: Panasonic R4: hotkeys and s3 don't work in edgy
Not sure how much it is useful. (My laptop is R7 btw) http://git.myrix.net/?p=pana_acpi/.git;a=tree With the above module, I can succesfully use brightness controls (without it, I can either enable or disable the backlight), also the sound controls (volume up, down and mute) appear to work flawlessly. What doesn't work is the monitor key, and standby to ram (actually ubuntu interpid ibex doesn't even give an option in power menu to do sleep to ram). Sleep to disk works flawlessly (it was working without the module). The button for sleep seems to start preparing to computer to hibernate, but then at the moment when the actual hibernation supposed to start, it comes back. So in summary, for me everything seems to work (or works good enough) except the standby to RAM. Another thing (I should report it separately) is that this laptop supports but Ubuntu doesn't seem to is economy mode (ECO) (keeps battery charged to 80% to extend its life), and disabling power on LAN. Those two options can be modified through windows, and laptop remembers the settings, but going to windows just to switch is a bit painful. [Bug 283079] [NEW] volume step is too large, and cannot be reduced
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon I recently upgraded to Intrepid. When I press the volume up/down keys on my laptop, the volume OSD appears and shows that the volume changes. Unfortunately it gives me very little granularity: I can have either 25%, 51%, 77% or 100% going up from muted, or 74%, 48% or 22% going down from 100%. I almost always want a volume somewhere in between these values (48% is typically much too soft, and 74% is typically too loud). As far as I can tell, the granularity is supposed to be controlled by the /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/volume_step gconf key, which I've never changed and seems to have defaulted to 6. That would be fine, but I am not seeing 6% increments. If I change volume_step to any other positive integer the effect seems to be the same (increments of roughly 25%). If I change volume_step to 0, the volume keys still display the OSD but don't change the value, as expected. In fact, every gamepad I have tried does the same thing in Intrepid, so it's not limited to this particular controller. I was told in bug # 274203 to report this bug individually for each joystick that fails, however I think that's very silly as it is more important to fix this bug for all joysticks, not just the ones reported. [Bug 283060] Re: Ubuntu wont uninstall from my remove software. i want to reinstall it for some features werent loaded properly. how do i uninstall it?
So you have it setup as a dual-boot system, where you choose which OS to boot when you boot up the laptop? There isn't an 'easy' way to do it, but you can try this- First you need to remove GRUB: 1. Insert the Windows Setup CD into the CD or DVD tray on your computer. 2. Restart your computer. 3. Hit Enter to reboot from the Windows CD when prompted to do so. 4. Type “R” and hit Enter in Windows Setup to enter the Recovery Console. The Recovery Console will appear and list the Windows OSs on your machine. 5. Select the number corresponding to the Windows installation you wish to boot into. For most people this will be a “1”. 6. Windows will prompt you for an Administrator password. Try your Administrator password or, if your Administrator password does not work, hit Enter. 7. At the Windows prompt, type “fixmbr”. (If that doesn't work, try fixboot or fdisk /mbr) 8. Type “exit” to restart the computer. Your computer should restart using the Windows installation you selected. Then you will need to delete the Linux partitions. If you have a partition editor like gparted, use that, or you can use Control PanelAdministrative ToolsComputer ManagementDisk management to delete the partition and recreate it using NTFS. This will make a new partition though, like drive E: or whatever, so if you want the whole thing on the default partition (C:), you need to use a partition editor. -- Ubuntu wont uninstall from my remove software. i want to reinstall it for some features werent loaded properly. how do i uninstall it? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/283060 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 283040] Re: right clicking automatically selects something in the right click menu
I do not have the NoScript extension. I don't think it would be related to that, though, since unchecking the 'Disable or replace context menus' button basically tells firefox to disable the sites JS settings on right-click. For instance, some sites write a script into the page that disallows right-clicking so you cannot save images from the site. [Bug 283060] Re: Ubuntu wont uninstall from my remove software. i want to reinstall it for some features werent loaded properly. how do i uninstall it?
However, if the problem is just a faulty Ubuntu install, you may first want to try just re-installing it. Give it a try! If you follow the same steps taken to install from the Ubuntu CD, when you get to the partition editor, choose 'manual'. You will see the partitions Ubuntu is installed on (/, /home, /usr, swap normally). Just select each and 'Edit Partition). under the 'Use As' list, re-select the proper partition (/, /home, etc.) only on the /home partition, leave the box next to 'Format Partition?' unchecked. This should reinstall Ubuntu, leaving any files you had stored in your /home partition. (It did for me, anyways) Ubuntu is sometimes difficult to get installed properly, but I have found that once it is, it blows Windows out of the water!
