I can reproduce soft lockups of the CPUs on hardy AND Intrepid as well, if i follow these steps: 1: Plugin Soundcard in PCI-Slot (soundblaster xifi or terratec Aureon 5.1 PCI make no diff.) 2: Turn on PC 3: everything works fine, on genome systemmonitor are 4 Cores displayed, running fine, soundcard ( terratec) works out of the box 4: shutdown and start or restart 5: System stuckes on booting... every time 6: Unplug Soundcard 7:System starts fine again... after step 7 you can start from step 1 again... everytime the same... maybe something with recognition of new devices from bios? i have tested one thing until now after not booting up again, i set in grub acpi=no, now ubuntu starts up, but takes MUCH longer, and after looking into system-monitor in gnome, there is only 1 core displayed is there any information i can give to you? sorry for my poor english :) -- BUG: soft lockup - CPU #1 stuck for 11s -- Ubuntu 8.04.1 Kernel 2.6.24-19 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/254326 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 150872] Re: Installer should not list removable media in /etc/fstab
I think this will cause problems during pkgsel (or for certain kinds of ubiquity installs), because apt-cdrom won't be able to make use of packages on the CD. Instead, in the USB install case I think we need to remove /cdrom from /etc/fstab at the end of the installation, in a finish-install script (for d-i) and in custom scripts/install.py code (for ubiquity). -- Installer should not list removable media in /etc/fstab https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/150872 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Proposed /etc/network/if-up.d/dhcp3-server Would a ifup.d script like this work for you ? It is based on the openssh-server one. [Bug 280159] Re: Intrepid 2.6.27-6 fails to boot with white screen
Actually 2.6.27-6 does not fix this. It appears to be the v86d package. I had installed it about the time the kernel upgrade occurred. I removed this and I have performed several cycles and have not had a problem. With v86d the behavior varies, sometimes I get the white screen, sometimes I get a usplash screen but with strange colors and resolutions, once I did get the correct splash screen. -- Intrepid 2.6.27-6 fails to boot with white screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/280159 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 280123] Re: dhcp3-server needs if-up.d/if-down.d scripts for better network-manager compatibility
Hm, after more analysis I'm no longer convinced that this is appropriate. In the openssh-server case, the if-up.d script just calls the initscript reload action, which sends a SIGHUP to the process (if any). This doesn't have any side-effects. This is not the same for dhcp3-server. There is no reload action so we call restart, which does stop/sleep 2/start. * this is called when interfaces are brought up at boot time, resulting in boot delay * /etc/init.d/dhcp3-server start is called after the if-up.d script already started dhcp3-server, which is confusing, to say the least * it results in DHCP server not serving addresses for a small time every time an interface is brought up * More unanticipated breakage potential The correct way to do it would be to have : - an ifup.d script that returns immediately if dhcp3-server isn't already started, so that it doesn't affect the boot. However dhcp3-server doesn't really start a process if there are no interfaces available, so the resulting ifup script would not start it if needed interfaces are later brought up... defeating the whole point of this bug, I suppose - a graceful restart feature in dhcp3-server so as to minimize those reloads impact So my guess is that dhcp3-server isn't sufficiently smart to be integrated into ifup/ifdown without dirty side-effects... -- dhcp3-server needs if-up.d/if-down.d scripts for better network-manager compatibility https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/280123 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 214063] Re: Nightly build for updating on 4/8 caused error exceed of bios cyclinder on reboot
To resolve my problem, I reloaded the computer with a later issue of Ubuntu. The problem will probably reocur when when more Kernels are released, as of now, there are only two active kernels. I would like to see a program that would erase the oldest kernel when a new one is released and is updated in manager update. From what I understand, this is an issue only with the older bios which limits the sector that the kernel is loaded into to boot. Since most people are purchasing newer computers, this may not be worth your time to work on. I would suggest that if you do, then when a new kernel is released, a program would replace the older kernel with the new one (probably as an option on update).
