I can confirm, removing stale configuration makes gconfd to behave normally. Hello, I have exactly the same problem! [Bug 269831] Re: toshset does not support tlsup module (Intrepid)
I've now managed to get this working. It involved patching and recompiling simply the toshiba_acpi module, then manually installing the module. Since I don't really understand what I'm doing, I don't know if this is the easiest way to get it to work, but it fixed the problem for me. I've put a step-by-step guide on the Ubuntu forum here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6203606#post6203606 To try and answer questions individually in case it's still useful: Andy Whitcroft: I'd figured out the same as you about commenting out the line in toshiba_acpi.modprobe, however this caused the modprobe to silently fail. No output, but lsmod would not find it. Ante Karamatić: I guess the patch that shipped is the one I applied? Even though it says 'historic reference,' it's very much needed: http://memebeam.org/free-software/toshiba_acpi/ Apparently because of the patch, it's not possible to load the toshiba and toshiba_acpi modules simultaneously - I don't know what the toshiba one does though, I don't seem to need it. Depending on which is loaded first, the second gives a device or resource busy error. I think this is because they both create/use /dev/toshiba ? [Bug 106060] Re: [r128 1002:5446] Selecting the Molecule screensaver makes the PC freeze. It is completely unresponsive.
I am new to Linux and Ubuntu and have the apparently troublesome Rage 128. I was surprised (disappointed) to encounter the Molecules bug 10 minutes after my first install of Ubuntu 8.10. I can't change it because entering the screensaver menu freezes the system. I must reinstall Ubuntu (or remove the Molecule file) if I want to avoid rebooting the system using the power cord. Not a very encouraging intro to Linux and Ubuntu. It crashed almost as many times in one evening as with the other OS over 5 years. I used my older computer system and at the time the Rage 128 cards were very popular for home and business. There are likely many more users that will encounter this problem. I'm now concerned other applications that may have similar problems with this card.Hopefully this bug will get some needed attention. Also helpful is to disable the preview as the default when entering the screensaver menu. That would allow bypassing the bug. Thanks. -- [r128 1002:5446] Selecting the Molecule screensaver makes the PC freeze. [Bug 299458] [NEW] Ricoh IPSiO NX730N won't work on Ubuntu 8.10
Public bug reported: $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 8.10 Release:8.10 I couldn't identify the package that causes the bug. My printer (Ricoh IPSiO NX730N) won't print documents after upgrading from 8.04 to 8.10. I usually use Ricoh ps driver Ver.3.0.1 (265 KB) on Ubuntu 8.04 which can be downloaded from the following website. http://support.ricoh.com/bbv2/html/dr_ut_d/ipsio/model/nx630/winxp/winxp.htm http://support.ricoh.com/w/bb/pub_j/dr_ut_d/411/411007/V301/5121932/121932.exe Actually the file (121932.exe) is a executable one for windows. I extract .PPD from this file with using wine. $ wine 121932.exe And I can obtain the printer driver for NX730N, which is 121932/XP_VISTA/DISK1/RINX73N3.PPD . By going to System - System management - Printing, I apply this RINX73N3.PPD for Ricoh IPSiO NX730N printer. In the above procedures, the printer surely worked on 8.04, but it wouldn't after upgrading to 8.10. [Bug 299461] [NEW] Graphics in web pages do not print using default settings
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mozilla-firefox This is an old problem still unresolved fully. The way it manifests for me is, for example:- Go to news.bbc.co.uk FilePrint Preview works and shows the images. FilePrint (without changing any settings) prints with black rectangles where the images should be. That is clearly a bug when preview and print display different results. However FilePrint then choose the Options tab, check the Print Background check box and then print and the images are printed as per the Preview. I first reported this to the cups project. They sent me this reply: From Till Kamppeter QUOTE: bwallum, you are hit by a Firefox bug. I have visited the site you mention and then I have chosen to print to a file in the printing dialog (first entry of the printer list). I have tried with both the PostScript and PDF output formats and get black images in both cases. So the data arriving at CUPS when choosing to print to a real printer is already broken. Please report a new bug for the firefox package. ENDQUOTE I have attached my printer set up and files used. The bug is repeatable every time for me.
