I do not have the 'Disable if two keys pressed together' checked either.
True, the dialog box doesn't pop-up, but Sticky Keys *does* get
deactivated. After it gets deactivated if you go and see the Keyboard

automatically.

[Bug 302387] Bug 302387

2008-12-03 Thread Wolter Visscher
After Dowlloading and installing libdvdcss2 The totemplayer plays DVD
movies. I tried 3 movies that did not started before.

Pity that i could not find any function in the presentation screen for
operating the player that was working.
I mention, Sound Volume, Undertitling, and others.

Apparently the standard installation of the Totemplayer is far beyond
the desired level.

Please give me a site for downloading the complete installion package for the
totemplayer.
According to my opinion , it should be include in the standard installation
package for Unbuntu 8.10

Picture files in the numereous picture formats, avi and others, seems to
give no give no problems.

I tried to send this information before. But i found it back in my
incoming mail.

Thanks for your answer. It was useful but not sufficient. Waiting for your next
reaction.
Regards, Wolter Visscher

[Bug 302004] Re: Please add a samba-dev package

2008-12-03 Thread Andreas Kostyrka
jelmer: What's the correct way to build a VFS module then? Complete
replacement for the samba package = that provides even worse security,
because a strict versioning at least warns the admin that something is
reeking.

samba-with-my-vfs-module OTOH would just get stuck at an unsafe version
without any automatic indication that something is broken.

[Bug 300252] Re: No USB connections mount in 8.10

2008-12-03 Thread Psychoscorpic
Still no joy on this.

Tried:
sudo rmmod ehci_hcd

On boot, modified kernel parameters by adding:
irqpoll
noapic
pci=irqroute
pci=noacpi
acpi=off

Nothing of benefit happened with any (or all) of these options.

Did find in the /media folder some empty folders: usb0 usb1 . . . usb7
Deleted all of them. And guess what?! . . . nothing.

Updated the install.
Nothing.

Getting seriously miffed here. I've become the de-facto Ubuntu support
guy to the community of about 8 new converts at work, but am getting a
little embarrassed by not having any USB functionality on my own
machine!! (Not to mention having lost modem support with the upgrade
from 8.04 - no driver available for 8.10 two months after release.)

I can elaborate on the issue some... Previews which should contain

Mostly from here http://listing.driveragent.com/usb/0421 and other

It should be noted that Nokia phones with the (where N is a number)
model numbering scheme would also work as modems, but adding them should
follow some testing, as most of them are S40, not S60 phones.

2008-12-03 Thread Shock
Per this thread http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=124059
nvidia driver version 180.11 (beta) was released.

Release Highlights:

* Added support for the following new GPUs:
  o GeForce 9400M
* Fixed font corruption on GeForce 6 and 7 series GPUs when the GlyphCache
setting is enabled.
* Fixed a memory leak problem when the GlyphCache setting is enabled.

* Improved VDPAU error detection and reporting.
* Improved VDPAU support for some video bitstreams.

The 180.11 NVIDIA Accelerated Linux Graphics Driver Set for Linux/x86 is
available for download via FTP.
The 180.11 NVIDIA Accelerated Linux Graphics Driver Set for Linux/x86-64 is
available for download via FTP.

Please see the README (x86, x86-64) for more information about this
release.

It seems to fix the font corruption issue I was mentioning earlier. Until we
get the 180.11 driver in the repos (if we get it) there a couple of alternative
fixes for the font corruption issue:
 1) set GlyphCache to 0: nvidia-settings -a GlyphCache=0
Some reports indicate that in some cases the InitialPixmapPlacement needs to be
also set to 0 to get rid of the text corruption. YMMV
 2) disable sub-pixel hinting in the anti-aliasing settings.

[Bug 148097] Re: No HDMI audio with ALC883 chipset

2008-12-03 Thread alej
Hey Belgarth, sorry to hear that it isn't working for you I have a
few suggestions to make based on my ongoing fight to make my TV display
correctly.

1. I do not get HDMI Audio when using TwinView. I only get HDMI Audio on
the TV if I use separate screens. Are you using Twinview? If yes, try
separate X windows.

2. I've noticed minor tweaks to xorg.conf also alter the HDMI Audio...
I'm still uncertain which and why, but I'll keep you updated with my
investigations.

I'm attaching two xorg.conf files.

Separate X -- Uncommenting the CustomEDID option has no effect on the
HDMI Audio- It still works, even though I am getting an EDID
contradiction on my /var/log/Xorg.0.log file which I believe is the
culprit for not being able to have the TV show a full desktop

Twiview -- This won't give me HDMI Audio... I believe this conf file is pretty
clean and not so different from the Separate X conf file, yet it results in
something completely different.
I've been reading the README for 180.11 from front to back and viceversa, and
still can't figure out a lot of things, so I'm sure my ignorance here is the
one to blame for not being able to coin the subtleties.

Hope this helps...

[Bug 297543] Re: Update Package: nVidia 180.06

2008-12-03 Thread mattcasters
For what it is worth, I agree with the caution of the packagers in this case.
The driver is tagged beta for a reason. Yes, it's true that most of my Kubuntu
Intrepid issues went away with the upgrade to nvidia driver version 180.06.
No, that was not the end of it.
As documented on the Nvidia forum, I'm still required to run this after every
restart of X, including after every suspend/hibernate/reboot:

nvidia-settings -a GlyphCache=0 -a InitialPixmapPlacement=0

I also agree with Xavier and all since we can at least see something
on our screens in stead of being dumped to a command line prompt without
network support since that's apparently another stupid change in
Intrepid.

The 2.6.27-7-generic is working but 2.6.27-3-rt is not working. I think that is
because of some kernel option or the specific version that has some problem.

Re: [Bug 231455] Re: ThinkPad A21p - Screen Resolution Problems

2008-12-03 Thread peoitibble
Hello
There is a fix for your problem but you need to work a little without
seeing a correct screen.
* In the startup screen in Ubuntu you give User and Password (with a
corrupt screen)
* In the Ubuntu desktop screen you try to start a terminal window (It
is not easy with a corrupt screen)
* In the terminal you give the input: sudo nautilus
* Go to /usr/share/applications and start Screen and Graphics (
* In Screen and Graphics you choose graphic driver (vesa works good
for my A21p) and what screen you have (I use LCD)
* Now you have a correct screen and when you start the computer next
time the screen is correct.
Good luck

options to select, or see how to fix this. My screen has a 1600x
1200 resolution. I also tried Centos 5.2, but this has the same
problem. Even worse, I overwrote Windows 2000 and could not
install Windows XP SP2 as it hung halfway through installing

Status in “xorg” source package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

 Bug description:
My older laptop (IBM ThinkPad A21p) ran perfectly well in Ubuntu
7.10. This laptop has an ATi Rage Mobility 128 M3 (16MB) graphics
chip that uses the ati or r128 driver. It has a 1600x1200,
15.4 LCD and a VGA output. When I got my 8.04 CD, I put it in and
booted up to a horribly scrambled mess of a display. The screen
was divided up into 3 sections and it was mostly unusable because
you can't see anything. I took pictures of what happened and
attached them to this report. I then rebooted and used safe
graphics mode, which allowed me to install it (low resolution, but
it didn't scramble the display). After installing, I booted up to
even more screen resolution errors, as the login screen doesn't
show correctly (also pictured below) and it only detects 800x600 as
the highest resolution (also pictured). When I attached a
1280x1024 CRT monitor to the VGA port, the laptop would allow me to
select 1280x1024 as the maximum resolution and would display at
that resolution on both the CRT and the built in LCD panel (but not
at 1600x1200, only 1280x1024). I unplugged the VGA monitor, logged
out, and logged back in and it is again stuck at 800x600.

Since 800x600 is practically unusable, this bug has forced me to
use Windows XP on this computer, which I don't want to do. I like
Ubuntu much better but with an unusable resolution it's practically
useless. 8.04 worked fine on all of my other PC's (including my
new HP dv9700t laptop), it only failed on my ThinkPad.

start scim-setup, go to Panel - GTK, choose Toolbar - Show - Never and

Re: [Bug 288332] Re: Impossible to change synaptics touchpad settings

2008-12-03 Thread Alan
I was under the impression that xorg.conf is mostly ignored now though.

2008/12/3 captaintrav [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I understand it is frustrating not having an easy to use interface to
get proper touchpad performance. I've reverted to Hardy from Intrepid
due to other issues, but I didn't have touchpad issues with my
 xorg.conf.

Try something like this in /etc/X11/xorg.conf:

 Section InputDevice
Identifier Synaptics Touchpad
Driver synaptics
Option SendCoreEventstrue
Option Device/dev/psaux
Option Protocol auto-dev
Option HorizEdgeScroll 0
Option LeftEdge 130
Option RightEdge 840
Option TopEdge 130
Option BottomEdge 640
Option FingerLow 7
Option FingerHigh 8
Option MaxTapTime 180
Option MinTapTime 110
Option ClickTime 0
Option EmulateMidButtonTime 75
Option VertScrollDelta 20
Option HorizScrollDelta 20
Option MinSpeed 0.50
Option MaxSpeed 0.85
Option AccelFactor 0.050
Option EdgeMotionMinSpeed 200
Option EdgeMotionMaxSpeed 200
Option UpDownScrolling 1
Option CircularScrolling off
Option CircScrollDelta 0.1
Option CircScrollTrigger 3
Option VertEdgeScroll on
 EndSection

If you're really bored, look at the man page for synaptics to see what
all the settings do. Though my setup is for the synaptic driver, I'm
using an ALPS touchpad on a Dell Latitude, the synaptics driver supports
 both.

[Bug 105900] Re: Bold, Italics, and Bold Italics not in English on Fonts menu

2008-12-03 Thread bwallum
Just to say thanks, Chris, for persevering. It took me a while to
understand that OOo is ok and that the fontconfig module(not an OOo
module) is where the bug lies.

It really is an eyesore though and the casual user will automatically
assume that OOo is at fault. The sooner this bug is well and truly
squashed the better. I look forward to it being cleared in 9.04.

I have noticed some changes over the past year. The problem seems to be
now confined to certain fonts, e.g. Times New Roman and Verdana. Other
fonts are ok, e.g. UnDotum, are ok.

[Bug 298811] Re: FUSA is missing Hibernate, Suspend, Shut-down and Restart entries

2008-12-03 Thread Stéphane Marguet
Same problem here.
No shutdown(s) options on startup, but these options show up after using the
updates applet.
Oddly it doesn't work with gksudo from the terminal or by using Synaptic from
the menu.

[Bug 263963] Re: [iwl*] intel drivers take overly long to associate to WPA for some hardware

2008-12-03 Thread Ewald
My girlfriend is experiencing the same problem. The network manager
applet keeps asking the password and dmesg shows many timeout events.
She is running Ubuntu 8.10 32-bit with a Intel 3945 Pro Wireless. I
tried installing the PPA packages for network manager but it did not
work.

The strange thing to me is, I'm running the same (more or less). I'm
running Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit with a 3945 wireless chip and my wireless
works PERFECTLY. AFAIK I have not done anything strange to my setup to
make it work. I'll gladly post any logs and config files here if they'll
help.

I'd really like this problem to go away :-)

[Bug 282012] Re: ufraw-batch consumes 100% cpu and crashes with signal 24 in cmsTrilinearInterp16()

2008-12-03 Thread dfalk
In my case, the files are from a D50. And from what I've noticed, it is
trackerd that is causing this, and I think you have to have your NEF
files set to be opened by UFRaw by default.

So there are a couple workarounds that people can try:
1) Associate your NEF files with some other program, and use the right click
menu to open them with UFRaw.

2) Add NEF files to trackerd's excluded files (System Preferences
Search and Indexing, Ignored Files tab)

[Bug 304779] [NEW] can't install libwebkit : no available version

2008-12-03 Thread mr. adams
Public bug reported:

In desperation, while trying to get Gwibber to work (another story), I
removed libwebkit-1.0.1 using Synaptic and tried to reinstall it.
However, I get the error:

 libwebkit-1.0-1:

Package libwebkit-1.0-1 has no available version, but exists in the
database.
This typically means that the package was mentioned in a dependency and
never uploaded, has been obsoleted or is not available with the contents of

libwebkit-1.0.1 is a dependency of Gwibber. Isn't it built into

Language-selector just removed openoffice.org for me because the

[Bug 304604] Re: cursor over tooltip - window previews disappear

2008-12-03 Thread LoRaK
I didn't use this plugin in 8.04.
If I get a chance I'll try it.

BUT I just found out, that this does not happen if I right-click on the
slot and the menu comes up (with Minimize/Maximize etc.)

Although when the menu is opened, the window preview disappears (as it
should so I could see the menu), upon any movement of the cursor (while
still over the slot) it appears again (obscuring the menu, which could
be considered wrong behavior as one can't see the menu options, but it
disappears once the cursor leaves the area of the slot and enters the
area of the menu so it's not so bad).

While this menu is up, and the preview already visible, it does not
disappear when the cursor moves over the tootip and the tooltip jumps to
the right as expected. It works as it should.

As soon as the right-click menu is closed (e.g. right-click again) the
behavior returns to what it was before.

[Bug 297543] Re: Update Package: nVidia 180.06

2008-12-03 Thread mattcasters
I was merely commenting on the fact that you can always make a decision
either way: get 180 out there immediately or after a bit of testing.
As 180.11 proves you can make a case for both. In this case I think the
best thing to do was give the nv packagers a bit more time to fix a few
annoying (not critical) bugs.

[Bug 291863] Re: [Intrepid] Connecting to SSH server with Nautilus. Can't transfer file because free space: 0 bytes (gvfs bug ?)

2008-12-03 Thread Florent V.
Confirming this bug. When nothing is mounted (FTP or SFTP), the
/home/$USER/.gvfs/ folder says Free space: 0 bytes. When accessing any
folder in that folder, Nautilus still thinks there is 0 bytes available.

Accessing FTP or SFTP filesystems using the ftp:// or sftp:// protocols
in Nautilus works fine. Nautilus won't consider the files as local
(which is correct), won't try to count the content of folders if the
option is for local files only (option is ignored when using the
/home/.../.gvfs/... path), etc. File copy works fine.

When a nautilus window is available, using the bookmarks from there will
use the ftp:// or sftp// protocols. When using the bookmarks from the
Gnome shortcuts menu, you will get a path with /home/$USER/.gvfs/...

[Bug 272247] Re: System freezes during boot, unless I hold a key down

2008-12-03 Thread Morten Minke
I do not want to mix bugs here, but I think I have an issue which might
be related to this one because of the powerplug in/out trick which also
makes the boot continue. Apparently something is triggered by this
action.

What I now found out is that if my laptop is running I can connect to
wireless networks. However, if I need to unplug the powercord (while my
laptop is running), my wireless light starts blinking very rapidly and I
have no wireless network anymore.

Again, I do not want to make cross bug reports, but I would like to
verify with people having the startup problem, if they also encounter
this same issue with the wireless/powercord combination?
