[Bug 176888] Re: [i965] Backlight dimming not working in Hardy or Intrepid because of wrong XRandR BACKLIGHT_CONTROL setting

2009-05-18 Thread Michael Doube
Bryce, Rory

This bug is specifically targeted at Hardy and Intrepid in the title.
It's nice that it's fixed in Jaunty, but it's not fixed in Hardy so
shouldn't be reclassified as Fix Released.

[Bug 366156] Re: Samsung P35 fails to resume after suspend to RAM

2009-05-18 Thread Clippo
I found a workaround for the problem described above (at least it works on my
computer, too):
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hal-info/+bug/217482

Make sure you have a recent
/usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop/20-video-quirk-pm-
samsung.fdi (from hal-info package) installed.

Use radeonfb kernel module instead of vesafb:
- add kernel boot option video=radeonfb:mode_option=1024x768...@60
(resolution might differ of course)
- add radeonfb entry in /etc/initramfs-tools/modules
- run update-grub and update-initramfs
- reboot

2009-05-18 Thread Gerhard Zintel
Marc,

sorry for answering late. To compile the Kernel for Jaunty follow the
advice on http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=311158 (Master Kernel
Thread) and replace all occurence of string 2.6.29 by 2.6.27.

I'm now 10 days without any freeze (even under absolute heavy load)!

Good luck

Gerhard

[Bug 76489] Re: network device, module r8169, fails with NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0: transmit timed out

2009-05-18 Thread hugolp
I am having the same problem using Ubuntu Server 9.04 (Jaunty). The
machines is the Atom 330 based board D945GCLF2 with the RealTek RTL8111C
Ethernet Controller.

After a whil of heavy load (sometimes seconds) the network stops
working. After some time (arrond 1 or 2 minutes) it recovers itself and
starts working again, until there is heavy load again and stops working
and so on...

Is there any easy fix, even loosing funtionalities until a proper
solution is ready?

[Bug 355155] Re: Computer hard locks randomly with ubuntu jaunty

2009-05-18 Thread Gerhard Zintel
As this bug report is related to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/375986 I'd like to
poat my experience also here:

Same freeze with following hard- and software here:
GA-K8VT800 (Pro) motherboard with VIA K8T800 Chipset
 CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 2800+
Graphic: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 PRO]
Network: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8029 (no wireless)
I tested fresh installations of Ubuntu Jaunty, Kubuntu Jaunty and furthermore
Ubuntu Studio. All systems showed the freeze,
the latter even with the real time kernel.

In contrary to the original poster REISUB is working.
Changing network driver of ATI card and Kernel to version 2.6.30rc doesn't help.

I have downgraded to kernel 2.6.27 and the system is rock-stable for 10
days now!

2009-05-18 Thread hardke01
Applying the optimal configuration from the following post has fixed the
issues with the screen tearing when scrolling through the lotus notes
documents. The Intel driver is still the same version i was previously
using so the fix must have come in either the kernel updates or in the
fixmtrr.sh script.

The only problem is that using the current Intel driver compiz
performance is dreadful.

[Bug 377916] [NEW] /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/lts.conf not accessed

2009-05-18 Thread George Klein
Public bug reported:

Trying to set up dns for a thin client I found editing
/var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/lts.conf had no effect. Searching for help
I found a number of messages warning that incorrect formatting gets
ignored so I copied lts.conf to /etc in the chroot and ran ltsp-update-
image -a i386 (server is amd64 in case that's relevant).

This gave me a resolv.conf on the client with 000 permissions (as bug
#347957) but that was at least a step forward from size 0 (probably bug
#198376).

Increasing verbosity of tftpd logging on the server gave me these
relevant entries:

2009-05-18 Thread Christian A. Reiter
I think I found the problem.

I narrowed it down by changing values in the rc file until it didn't work any
more.

in the [Views] section just set Separator AgendaView to 0,0 - then
KOrganizer shows the grey panel.
I don't know how, but KOrganizer (maybe just in an earlier version, or an
update?) had set this value to 0,0.

rdiff-backup (1.2.8-1ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * Merge from debian unstable (LP: #339799), remaining changes:
- Add --install-layout=deb to place files in /usr

  being mutually exclusive now.
- Adds 01_fix_restricted_test-server_option.dpatch to make --test-server

- Adds dpatch entries to debian/control and debian/rules.
  * Closes LP: #329722.

[Bug 368615] Re: Jaunty power management doesn't work

2009-05-18 Thread Rüdiger Kupper
I confirm unusual behavior in Jaunty:

- most notifications are not displayed (e.g. the inhibit-sleep warning,
although power manager is configured to display it).
- sudden death: notebook switches off due to critical battery status, without
power manager having displayed a warning, and without having executed the
critical action.

This is very disturbing.

[Bug 377923] [NEW] Evolution 'Save All' attachments will not save to the same folder again without re-browsing to the same location.

2009-05-18 Thread Richard Young
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Evolution 2.26.1-0ubuntu1
Ubuntu 9.04

Occurs when trying to save attachments using the 'Save All' button.

For the first e-mail, the attachments save correctly. However
subsequent e-mails will not allow you to save to this folder without
first selecting the parent directory and then browsing to the required
directory. Please note that this only occurs if you are trying to save
to the same pre-selected folder (i.e. I haven't re-browsed to the
folder, I simply accept the default from the last attempt).

[Bug 377921] [NEW] Adobe Acrobat Connect Presentations Are Not Working

[Bug 349943] Re: Screen blinks randomly on external monitor

Update 2:

Upon further investigation, it seems that the DVI monitor and computer
go out of sync and that is what causes the blinking. As a workround I
have I found that after reducing the resolution of the DVI monitor the
issue has ceased. It is unfortunate since it is now running at 1280x960
whereas it could be running at 1600x1200.

[Bug 376694] Re: Problem logging in to Gnome

2009-05-18 Thread anna_vt
I've been looking at this error log and decided to look at the
/home/anna/.config/gnome-session/saved-session/ folder.
All the files in here were last modified on the day and time I was last running
Ubuntu without any problems. So I have moved them to a different location,
logged out and back in again and I haven't had the error message yet and gnome
things seem to be working. I hope this is a fix, but I don't know the
implications of removing these files we'll have to see.
I have no idea what could have happened to these files to cause this problem
though?

[Bug 377931] [NEW] Black margin on the left of the screen with geode driver

2009-05-18 Thread Julien Olivier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-geode

I had a working AMD Geode LX800 running Ubuntu Gutsy with the amd driver, but
since I upgraded to Jaunty, and switched to the geode driver, my screen has a
black margin on the left of the display (about 4cm wide).
I tried playing with the modelines, but nothing seems to change anything.
Note that when using the vesa driver, I don't have the black margin problem.

[Bug 377932] [NEW] quick search does not work for added repositories

2009-05-18 Thread Captain Chaos
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: synaptic

When you add a new repository to the software sources, Synaptic's quick
search function does not work for the new repository.

I added the http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian repository,
but when I quick search for virtualbox it only finds the one in the
Ubuntu repositories. Even if I explicitly select the new repository as
Origin, and I see the virtualbox-2.2 package there, when I type
virtualbox or even virtualbox-2.2 in the Quick search field it
disappears.

When I first used Synaptic I noticed that it said something like
building quick search index. Apparently it doesn't rebuild this index
when a new repository is added.

The expected behaviour is that the index is rebuilt when a new
repository is added so that quick search will find the new packages.

[Bug 376722] Re: [i945] i945 don't recognize 1440x900 in ubuntu jaunty

2009-05-18 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 288807 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/288807

I can't see any EDID information in the output of `xrandr --verbose` or
Xorg.0.log. What are the correct resolution of your internal laptop
monitor (1200x800?) Would it be possible for you to connect your
external monitor (1440x900) via DVI and get the Xorg.0.log for that?
Since this was working in an earlier version of ubuntu, do you have the
possibility to start from an Intrepid LiveCD and attach `xrandr
--verbose` output and Xorg.0.log (preferably with the ModeDebug option
set)? Are you using your two monitors in mirrored mode or as an extended
desktop?

Newer versions of xorg (or the driver) rely more heavily on the EDID
information provided by the monitor that before. This is a standard that
virtually all monitors have supported since around 2001. Unfortunately,
many Vaio laptop panels don't support this, and these are the only
monitors I know about that don't. Occationally, the EDID information in
some models are slightly wrong, but in those cases it is possible to
make xorg work around it. Without any EDID information, it is not
possible to figure out what is connected at all.

popup appears :
1. run firefox
2. right-click on firefox in the taskbar + toujours sur l'espace de travail
visible (i am in french)
3. check that firefox appears on all desktop, OK
4. browse the web, OK

Re: [Bug 330268] [NEW] [needs-packaging] Ruby 1.9.1

2009-05-18 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
On 18/05/09 at 12:55 -, Launchpad Bug Tracker wrote:
Notes: I mean, we should include this in jaunty...

The problem is that existing libraries need to be migrated to ruby
1.9.1. Which is painful. So the idea is to write something similar to
python-support, called ruby-support, that will allow to automatically
support several ruby versions at the same time.

This is handled by the Debian pkg-ruby-extras, which could clearly use
some help. (see the debian-ruby@ list archives).

Also note that a ruby1.9 1.9.1 package is already available in Debian
experimental. But I strongly recommend against merging/syncing that
package in Ubuntu as long as ruby-support is not ready, and migration
plans have not been decided in Debian.

[Bug 61237] Re: Drag 'n Drop in list view doesn't work

2009-05-18 Thread Scott Armitage
Both of these issues (the drag-and-drop of files/folders and the right-
click context menu in full list-view) have bothered me for a long time;
there is still no solution in Ubuntu Jaunty.

I can confirm this bug in Ubuntu 9.04 with minicom 2.3-1ubuntu1.
Switching between tabs causes the same.

[Bug 375891] Re: OpenOffice Impress: Movies do not play

2009-05-18 Thread tuxo
Ok, I investigated this problem further and found out that by installing
the package gstreamer0.10-plugins-good, I was able to listen to mp3
and ogg vorbis files as well as inserting them into OpenOffice Impress
slides. Furthermore, installing the package gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg
allowed me to watch avi movie files as well.

While this solved my original problem, I think this is not the way it
should be. A novice or casual user would probably not have found out how
to solve this problem, given that OpenOffice did not tell the user what
was wrong (e.g. via a pop-up) and neither proposed to install the
missing packages for the user. I think that OpenOffice should do the
latter or, alternatively, should automatically install at least the
gstreamer0.10-plugins-good package via a dependency.

[Bug 375593] Re: cannot browse samba shares without editing smb.conf

2009-05-18 Thread Martin G Miller
The smb.conf resolve order change is one of the first things I have to
do on new installs, so that is a work around for me. The fact that it
returns the wrong ip address on a ping command is something that I am
interested in. I tried the same tests at my office in another town and
it behaves exactly the same way. The difference is that I have 2
Wilndows XP pro sp2 machines there as well as 4 ubuntu 8.04 boxes. I
find that I can use the windows machine to ping server and it returns
the correct 10.0.0.5 address of my server. If I try that from any of
the Ubuntu machines, it goes out to the same 67.63.55.3 that I got at
home. If I change my dns servers from the ones supplied by my ISP to
the ones used by openDNS for example, it behaves the same way, except it
tries to ping a different ip address. In fact, regardless of what I put
after the ping command, it always goes to the same outside address. I
get the same result whether from my ISP dns server or openDNS. But the
windowsXP boxes always get the ping command correct. So there is
something different about how WindowsXP processes a ping request from
how we are doing it in Ubuntu. Should I open a new bug centered on
this behavior? I suspect if this got resolved, it would fix the network
browse issue as well. My ISP is Optimum online. It is the fastest and
best cable broadband provider on Long Island, New jersey and
Connecticut. If I am having this problem, so is every other Ubuntu user
in these areas. I think it should be looked into.

[Bug 377159] Re: package landscape-common 1.0.23-0ubuntu0.8.10.1 failed to install/upgrade:

2009-05-18 Thread Andreas Hasenack

Correction: a workaround was added to landscape 1.0.25 which doesn't
trigger the #238755 bug. We just don't set the gecos of the landscape
user anymore.
