[Bug 402890] Re: [Jaunty SRU Request] e1000e driver update for Hanksville NIC
Ok Steve, it seems your suspicions were after all justified. I just tried to load both modules with the current code and realized that the driver name, which is defined by one string internally, has to be changed, too. I queue up a follow-up patch (which I tested by loading both modules, but without the actual hardware), which rename that driver name as well. The -15.50 upload got rejected for some other problem, so the everything gets into the next upload. -- [Jaunty SRU Request] e1000e driver update for Hanksville NIC https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/402890 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 419191] [NEW] Mailing from php5 module fails when number of Apache VirtualHosts is above +/-1500
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libapache2-mod-php5 My shared webserver suddenly stopped mailing yesterday. Both the PHP mail() function or calling /usr/sbin/sendmail directly from exec() or something similar gives this error in /var/log/exim4/mainlog (of course /usr/sbin/sendmail is just a symlink to exim4): 2009-08-26 13:35:51 1MgGn9-0002rA-Tm == h...@example.com R=smarthost T=remote_smtp_smarthost defer (-1): smtp transport process returned non- zero status 0x000b: terminated by signal 11 After a long search I finally found that mailing starts working again when I delete a few random Apache VirtualHosts. I can really not explain why this happens, but I can reproduce this behaviour every time. The VirtualHosts configuration is certainly correct, and Apache nor PHP gives any error message. The mail is added to the exim4 queue correctly as far as I know, but it is not sent and frozen immediately. With exim -M message_id on the command line I am able to send each message afterwards without a problem. I tried different exim4 configurations (without smarthost for example), but that doesn't give any change. On another server I use suPHP (CGI), with exactly the same versions of Apache and Exim4, there this problem does not exist. Also on the server where I have this problem a Perl CGI script that calls /usr/sbin/sendmail runs just fine, and sends the mail. So I think it must be some bug in libapache2-mod-php. [Bug 419194] [NEW] We have hardly any data on why people cancel installations
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity The Ubuntu installer consists of several rather tricky steps, and people can bail out of the process at any time before clicking Install. We have a reasonable suspicion that the partitioning step is the most difficult, but beyond that, if people give up, we have very little idea of why. This could be fixed by introducing an ubuntu.com database that stores basic information about someone cancelling the installation: what step they cancelled on, and any reason they provided. Then we could prompt people who close the installer window, asking them why they're doing so. We should do this only when (a) there is a working Internet connection, and (b) the ubuntu.com server has responded positively to Ubiquity asking it whether it is accepting feedback. (Probably we would turn this on just for a day or two each cycle.) [Bug 418974] Re: Update to 0.5
Please drop the postinst. It's brittle since it depends on gdm being configured already without an explicit depends (which we don't want). Now, you could create the system user if it isn't present, but a suid binary which other users can't run is still ugly. [Bug 419196] [NEW] Backslash key inoperative in spanish eee PC
Public bug reported: Computer: Asus eee PC 901, spanish keyboard Distro: Ubuntu 9.04 The backslash key (non-shifted º, shifted ª, alg-gr \) does not work, either in the text console or in any X application that I have tried. [Bug 419211] [NEW] karmic gtk_button_set_image needs gtk_widget_show
Public bug reported: From gtk documentation (http://library.gnome.org/devel/gtk/unstable/GtkButton.html#gtk-button- set-image): gtk_button_set_image () Set the image of button to the given widget. Note that it depends on the gtk-button-images setting whether the image will be displayed or not, you don't have to call gtk_widget_show() on image yourself. This is not true in karmic anymore ( version 2.17.7-0ubuntu3), now I need to call gtk_widget_show() on the button image every time I call gtk_button_set_image or gtk_button_set_label. In previous versions of gtk this works as expected, now some applications that depended on the documented behaviour presented missing images in karmic, making them a bit uggly. If this is just a behaviour change then the documentation should be updated so that developers like myself can fix their apps, otherwise I believe this is bug that can present some unexpected results in a lot of applications. ** Affects: gtk+2.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- karmic gtk_button_set_image needs gtk_widget_show https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/419211 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

As a follow-up: Do your error messages look very close to Kyle's (with the invalid looking date 222-22MM-22dd 22hh:22mm:22ss.22zzz)? Yes, indeed! Searching on 222 was how I found this thread. It also seems to happen in the middle of the night. Do you all use remote frontends? If so, do you have a real IP address set for the backend rather than 127.0.0.1? Yes. The backend is on an unattended machine that runs the backend, and a couple of other non-intensive services (Slimserver music server, IMAP server, DHCP server, DNS server, all for a small LAN only). It has no GUI, 2G RAM 1T+360G HDD, and is not at all stressed! Or did you all happen to change a configuration? No. It is an Ubuntu Hardy LTS machine that just receives the normal updates using apt-get once a week. It uses no special repos (apart from for the Slimserver). I have just run mythtv-setup the once, right at the start. However, it is not a Mythubuntu install. It is a server install with the mythbackend installed afterwards. [Bug 267891] Re: network-manager not restarting ntp daemon
There is an aditional snag with /usr/sbin/ntp-debian. If NTPDATE_USE_NTP_CONF is set to yes (is so by default), then ntpdate- debian will look for /etc/ntp.conf.dhcp /etc/ntp.conf /etc/openntpd/ntpd.conf and ignore an ntpdate.dhcp. If the ntp package is not installed, then none of /etc/ntp.conf.dhcp /etc/ntp.conf /etc/openntpd/ntpd.conf will existand the default ubuntu NTP will be used instead of the one configured in ntpdate.dhcp. So I would propose to set NTPDATE_USE_NTP_CONF to no by default. After all, both configfiles for ntp and ntpdate would contain the correct NTP Servers (if they are created at all) and therefore use the right time. -- network-manager not restarting ntp daemon https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/267891 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 410131] Re: update-manager: Could not initialize the package information
Thank you Robert Chapman for your reply, I don't have any more that problem, (only freezes sometimes) the solution seemed to work, and is similar to the one that I found. How could we inform other users about the solution/fix? As I monitor these last 2 weeks the update manager they keep posting again and again the same error. I have already noted 6 similar bugs. Digging on your own is a hard job :-) If the Update Manager Team doesn't have time to fix it, maybe they should guide every one to that solution instead of saying report the bug. -- update-manager: Could not initialize the package information https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410131 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I think it might be a kernel thing. 2.6.31-7-generic looks bad. 2.6.31-6-generic looks good. [Bug 268714] Re: [needs-packaging] libcgroup
All of the source files are licensed under the LGPL (2.1) with 3 exceptions: src/parse.c, src/parse.h, and src/pam/pam_cgroup.c Those files have licenses in the comment header, parse.[ch] specifies GPL and pam_cgroup.c specifies BSD-3 (or GPL) The discussion on REVU revolves around properly documenting each file and its associated license in 'debian/copyright'. So nearly all of the source is licensed under the LGPL with the exceptions stated above, the effort is to capture those exceptions in the documentation, not to re- interpret or to change the licensing in any way. Does this make sense? Is there any special reason for this ? Re: [Bug 419191] Re: Mailing from php5 module fails when number of Apache VirtualHosts is above +/-1500
To be sure I just started the kvm on another host. I experience exactly the same problem there. This is not a hardware fault. Mark Hunting wrote: Well in fact this server is already inside a kvm, so I don't think hardware is the problem. The configuration on the other host is OK because I don't use PHP as a module there. The other host is also running inside a kvm on exactly the same hardware. A gdb backtrace is a bit too complicated for me I'm affraid. But to reproduce the error it should be enough to just create more than 1500 different VirtualHosts, and then use the mail() function in PHP5. If more info is needed please ask. Ondřej Surý wrote: Have checked your memory using memtest? Signal 11 could be a sign that there is something wrong with the hardware. Especially if the same configuration on other host is ok. Another option is to replicate whole server to some virtual (kvm) host and try if it happens there as well. I am afraid that without more information (gdb backtrace), and step-by- step guide how to reproduce the error, nobody will be able to help you. -- Mailing from php5 module fails when number of Apache VirtualHosts is above +/-1500 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/419191 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 347087] Re: package quassel-core 0.4.1-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
This is fixed upstream by redesigning startup and shutdown of the core to be hugely faster.
