[Bug 441485] Re: [LENOVO 7742NCG] hibernate/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]

2009-10-05 Thread Frank Hansen
Hi,

too late - as I managed to crash my .ICEauthority file (I guess with
sudo nautilus instead of gksudo nautilus), couldn't fix it and re-
installed (it was a fresh install anyway). I thought the detailed bug
report contained all the needed data...

Should I try to reproduce the bug and then send the data?

It can be reproduced - with the free nvidia driver suspend doesn't work
and with the proprietary one, hibernate doesn't work (the same as in
8.10).

Cheers

Frank

Karmic beta was not 2.6.31-11.38 (iirc). You can simply check cat
/proc/version_signature and the output of modinfo acerhdf. Only with -11.38 and
later the modinfo should show something along pnAOA* in the aliases.

Public bug reported:

But try these steps in Thunderbird:

1. Compose new email
2. Click in body and choose menu Insert/Image
3. Paste into Image Location:

4. Wait a second or two
5. Immediately you get a message saying: Unable to verify the identity of

Certificate matches the domain, is issued by VeriSign Class 3 Secure

[Bug 442904] [NEW] Desktop background wrongly sized after reconfiguring screen size for external monitor

2009-10-05 Thread Tom Haddon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

My regular laptop screen resolution is 1280x800. I have an external
monitor with a native resolution of 1680x1050. When I switch to using
just the external monitor (through Fn+F8) the desktop background appears
to be wrongly sized, as it thinks the resolution is actually much larger
- the aspect ratio of the background thumbnails and the virtual desktop
thumbnails confirms this (see screenshot). And actually, taking a
screenshot of the whole desktop confirm this.

[Bug 231821] Re: Default file handlers can't be normally changed.

2009-10-05 Thread Micah Gersten
Has anyone tried this in a new profile? Also, can someone with the
problem try with Firefox 3.5?

Sometimes Firefox profiles can become corrupt and/or extensions can
conflict. Could you please try this with a new profile and see if the
problem still exists? You do not need to delete your old profile to
test. If this helps, you might want to try to disable all your
extensions and re-enable them one by one until you find the problematic
one.

You can start the profile manager with the following command:
firefox -ProfileManager

[Bug 442906] [NEW] gnome-power-manager overrides xfce4-power-manager in XFCE

2009-10-05 Thread Radu Cristian Fotescu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Installing ubuntu-desktop on Xubuntu brings, as expected, gnome-power-
manager.

The problem is that when you're in an XFCE session, the xfce4-power-
manager settings show as they were prior to install GNOME, but in
reality gnome-power-manager's settings override xfce4-power-manager's
ones.

Example: resuming from suspend/hibernation locks screen and ask for your
password, even if xfce4-power-manager is configured NOT to lock
screen... but gnome-power-manager is configured to lock it!

Now, why would gnome-power-manager interfere with an XFCE session?

[Bug 442903] [NEW] gnome panel calendar shadow does not dissapear when calendar is closed

2009-10-05 Thread GenBattle
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Using Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10 beta (upgraded from alpha 5 install)
inside a vitualbox VM on Jaunty.

The version of my gnome-panel package is in the bug report compile by
ubuntu-bug.

When i click the clock applet on gnome-panel i expect it to open the
mini calendar. This works fine. When i click the clock applet again i
expect it to completely hide the calendar. Instead it hides the calendar
and leaves the shadow applied to the edge of the calendar window as an
outline. I would upload a screenshot with this report to illustrate what
i mean but i'm having trouble taking screenshots inside the VM (and i
can't file this report outside of it).

Judging from the errors being thrown by gnome-panel it should be a
reasonably simple bug to fix? I can fix the issue by dragging another
window over the affected area, erasing the border left by the calendar.

[Bug 438065] Re: Karmic: DVDs cannot be mounted in GNOME

2009-10-05 Thread JK
 Just to note
This does not just relate to dvd's. ( as noted in some dups and other reports
In most (and here for sure) any media will cause the issue, whether data
 cd's, data dvd's, dvd_video or audio cd's.

Not true for me. Audio CDs and blank CDs are working correctly (i.e.
auto-mounting and ejecting) while everything containing 'normal' data
doesn't...

First is that brasero nautilus plugin was locking the DVD drive.

If the failed auto-mounting is indeed caused by brasero locking the
drive, how can a change within the kernel 'fix' that behaviour? And
where do all those 'unaligned read' (and other) errors within syslog
come from?

[Bug 285392] Re: Softreset failed (device not ready)

My comment on SATA DVD writing issues seems to bee invalid. I've
compiled a new kernel for myself without SATA PMP. The softreset issue
has gone, but I had to replace the SATA cable to DVD and now it works.

Also I still experience random slowdowns but it happens only when I play some
audio.
Now I'm testing a separate audio card.

[Bug 441397] Re: crash after trying to eject a mounted ntfs partition

2009-10-05 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 429391] Re: cups new printer does not find cups printer on a server on network

2009-10-05 Thread Simon Marti
Hi

I've got a very similar problem in Karmic Beta.
I share two printers via cups, but although I can find them in the network I
can't connect to them (tried from a jaunty-client). To add them on the client I
choose settings in the printer-window and check the box show printers shared
by other systems, but I still can't print and if I verify the connection in
the ipp-part of the add printer-assistant the error message Access denied
appears. Printing on the server itself works fine.
Please see the attached file about this access problem.

Don't hesitate to ask me if you need additional information.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Regards

Simon

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 442922] [NEW] Files/directories created in /var/tmp/vi.recover in absurd quantities - will exhaust inodes rapidly

2009-10-05 Thread Ed Hynan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvi

% lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04
% apt-cache policy nvi
nvi:
  Installed: 1.81.6-5
  Candidate: 1.81.6-5
  Version table:
 *** 1.81.6-5 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/universe Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

At times nvi will create large numbers of entries in /var/tmp/vi.recover -
other times it does not. I have not found a way to trigger this.

I just discovered this by running out of inodes (9.04 installed on new
notebook two weeks ago). So many that rm -rf ./* failed with argument
list too long; I had to invoke rm on subsets several times.

Just after clearing /var/tmp/vi.recover I did a simple two line edit on a
Makefile, then quit vi. That resulted in over 2000 entries in
/var/tmp/vi.recover
but as I write this bug report nvi is not repeating the bug.

Checking the filesystem of an 8.10 system I find 1187 entries accumulated
over about 10 months of use, so the bug wasn't active there.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: amd64
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
Package: nvi 1.81.6-5
ProcEnviron:
 PATH=(custom, user)
 LANG=en_US.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/zsh
SourcePackage: nvi
Uname: Linux 2.6.28-15-generic x86_64

[Bug 442667] Re: Grub Error 15 after upgrading to Grub 2

2009-10-05 Thread Colin Watson
Where was the GRUB boot sector installed on your system?

It looks like what happened is that you ran upgrade-from-grub-legacy,
but didn't choose to install GRUB 2 to the same place as GRUB Legacy; so
you now have a little stub of GRUB Legacy installed somewhere or other,
which you're booting from, and GRUB 2's boot sector code installed
somewhere else. In order for the upgrade to work properly, these two
need to match.

Did upgrade-from-grub-legacy ask you any questions? If so, what did you
answer to these?

** Package changed: grub (Ubuntu) = grub2 (Ubuntu)

** Summary changed:

- Grub Error 15 after upgrading to Grub 2
+ upgrade-from-grub-legacy installed grub2 somewhere different from grub

** Changed in: grub2 (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Incomplete

** Changed in: grub2 (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided = Medium

Could be the same as bug 436694. Could you try with the mentioned udev
rule?
