[Bug 521164] Re: omhacks FTBFS: open O_CREAT needs 3 arguments

2010-02-13 Thread StefanPotyra
Hi,

patch looks good, but why do you set S_IWGRP|S_IWOTH? (looking at
entries in /sys, these don't have group/others write permissions).

Cheers,
Stefan.

[Bug 521499] [NEW] k3b crashes with Asus K51 AC

2010-02-13 Thread nono
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: k3b

I have Kubuntu 9.10 with Kde 4.3.2 on my new Asus K51AC computer.
When I try to burn a CD, there are allways crashes, so I made my last trys on a
RW CD, which I can format without problems but no burnig possible.
After the lead in it crashes and says: buffer underrun, not enough rights. etc
I use the k3b setup and have the following rights:
HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSAT50N/dev/sr0/ 660 root.cdrom
and
cdrdao1.2.2 /usr/bin/cdrdao 4711
root.root
cdrecord 1.1.9 /usr/bin/wodim4711
root.root
growisofs 7.1 /usr/bin/growisofs 0755
root.root

I have also a Toshiba satellite 420 (2003) with kubuntu 9.10 on it and an old
cd burner: it works without problems.
So in my opinion there is an incompatibility between k3b and the device.
Please try to find a solution.

The relevant error is

This is due to a corrupted hint file. To workaround it, open a terminal and run
the following commands:
$ sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/info/ttf-dejavu-extra.prerm
$ sudo apt-get remove --purge ttf-dejavu-extra

Then try performing the install again. If it fix your issue then set the

[Bug 521500] [NEW] Jockey-gtk says No Proprietary Drivers are in use on this system, but shows the Nvidia Driver that I'm running as installed

2010-02-13 Thread Erik B. Andersen
Public bug reported:

I installed the lucid daily image.
I booted it up and installed the Nvidia 'version current' driver.
I rebooted.
Jockey came up automatically after scanning for drivers, and says No
proprietary drivers are in use on this system, while at the same time showing
the current version of the nvidia driver as installed. Not only that, but I
know that I am running the driver because desktop effects work.

I'm attaching a screenshot.
I have looked at bug 320689, but the problem turned out to be that
nvidia-common wasn't installed.
However,
apt-cache policy nvidia-common

[Bug 199448] Re: [upstream] CALC: can't dragdrop a single cell in the same sheet

2010-02-13 Thread Bruce Dunn
Open Office Calc has a feature that it doesn't treat single cells like
multiple cells when dragging and dropping. If I remember correctly, this
has been a point of contention in Calc design for years, as it doesn't
behave the way that people expect (ie. the way that Excel does it). It
has been brought up as a bug in the Open Office forums, and the response
has sort of been we are not going to fix it - that is the way that it
was designed to work

In order to drag and drop, the cell or cells have to be highlighted
first. If you are trying to highlight several adjacent cells, just drag
the pointer over them and they change background color to indicate that
they have been highlighted. Then, use the mouse to drag and drop the
highlighted cells in the normal way.

If you are trying to drag and drop a single cell, this doesn't work.
Clicking on a single cell doesn't highlight it. In order to get the
needed highlight do one of two things:

1) Hold down the CTRL key, and click on the single cell

OR

2) Click on the single cell, and while holding move the mouse cursor
into any adjacent cell - this highlights the two cells. Then, without
letting go of the mouse button, change your mind and move the pointer
back into the original cell. The highlighted area retreats from two
cells to the single cell that you wanted to highlight in the first
place. Then, go ahead with the drag and drop. I think of this as the
Calc Wiggle.

I would love for someone to write a patch for Calc so that individual
users can make it behave the way that Excel does.

[Bug 475530] Re: KIMPanel is unusable in Kubuntu 9.10

2010-02-13 Thread RK

It seems that Lucid Alpha2 did not fix this bug, and I cannot make it work
even I copy what Chen had done.

Note that the panel.py script is installed as /usr/lib/ibus/ibus-ui-kde,
so you have to adapt the path. It /kinda/ works with that. Kinda means:
if you add the panel widgets, you will have two popups that you can move
around, or you will have the whole shebang in the panel plus one popup.
The config button does nothing at all, not does any config entries
show up in systemsettings. The spam icon can be hidden using the Icon
Filter menu. When no IM is activated, a broken images is shown.

And now I tried around with using -p /bin/echo - a plasma crash later
and now I can't select anything at all anymore (unless using the gtk
ui). Somehow it cannot reliable communicate. Wierd.

It does happen with the 1.9 ruby package in Karmic. It doesn't happen

build dependencies installed. In the next few days, I'll find some time
to create another virtual machiene running the ubuntu-virtual-server
image of lucid. That should clear things up as to what packages have
this bug and what triggers it.

the 1.9 ruby package is karmic is likely ruby1.9.*0*. I could not
reproduce the problem with ruby1.9.*1*.

I suppose it's better that I test the lucid situation than the karmic
 situation anyways.

Just a general question: what will the ruby transitional package refer to?
And what will be the default dependency of ruby related packages (like
diakonos or passenger) to depend upon?

I would really like to see Ubuntu make the transition away from ruby 1.8
.. nobody is running stock ruby1.8 with passenger on a production
server. They are either running ruby enterprise editition or ruby 1.9,
because the performance simple isn't acceptable otherwise.

Ruby 1.9 is just provided as a development snapshot. There are too many
libs that don't work yet with 1.9.

Unfortunately I'm not a C programmer and am not too familiar with
their build system. But i'll do my best to pinpoint the problems and
possible diversions from upstream that are responsible for the issues.

There are no diversions from upstream that cause that bug. 1.9.0 is
buggy upstream, 1.9.1 is not.

[Bug 521503] [NEW] Show icon for recording level

2010-02-13 Thread Luca Ferretti
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-sound

This is more a feature request, but ideally the previous gnome-volume-
control-applet should be able to provide a similar feature (see
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/VolumeControl )

Basically, when an application is using a sound input (for instance
Sound Recorder, or Empathy in audio/video chat, or similar) you should
have a microphone icon near the speaker icon to control the input level
and mute or unmute it.

This icon should also provide a tooltip with current level (in % and db)
and with currently selected input (mic1, USB headset ...). The icon
appearance should change according with actual level.

[Bug 521237] Re: Volume slider controls multiple hardware mixers

2010-02-13 Thread Ryan Thompson
Ok, using ignore_dB=1 restored the old behavior. And the cause turned
out to be more or less what I expected. Pulseaudio is merging the
hardware mixers into one big mixer. The 0% mark on my Master mixer also
says -48.00 dB, and the 0% mark on my PCM mixer gives me -51.00 dB,
which means that the maxers together have a total of 100 dB or dynamic
range. However, I don't think the actual hardware (the speakers) can
produce this dynamic range, so the lower end of the volume slider is
just completely silent.

So maybe the *real* problem is that I need a way to specify the max and
min volumes in dB, and let Pulseaudio figure out the rest. I certainly
don't need 100 dB of dynamic range.

[Bug 520844] Re: w3m doesn't have browser support

2010-02-13 Thread Draycen DeCator
I am, but unfortunately your output is very similar to my output and I
can't find a specific error that stands out as possibly being the issue.
I will try to look into these outputs more, but while I was doing that I
just wanted to know if there was anything specific you were doing other
than installing the software and attempting to run it in order to
reproduce this bug.

[Bug 520618] Re: screen corruption on 10.04 alpha2

2010-02-13 Thread Philip Muškovac
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 520618

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you
may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe
repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect
permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability
to Change Non-Private data as it will be adding information to your
bug report. Thanks in advance!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using

[Bug 521510] [NEW] Firefox doing the usual Firefox is shit 250meg memory hog doing nothing bullshit.

2010-02-13 Thread Jammit
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

The usual crap i.e. Do Google: Firefox is shit for a search, and
it's 3 web pages open, 280Meg of ram, and bogging my entire system to an
almost halt while it thrashes the disk memory, doing fucking
nothing. for like an hour or so.

I now think I only tend to use it out of habit - where as chrome - just
does not give me grievance like this.

But my computer is working for me., not the other way around., and
Firefox fucks up so badly and so consistently that I tend to usually
have a kill function at the ready to wipe it and it's bullshit out,
when it starts up it's typical system hogging antics...

By the way it runs you'd think that Microsoft has employed people to
deliberately fuck the program up with regular crashes etc

[Bug 521164] Re: omhacks FTBFS: open O_CREAT needs 3 arguments

2010-02-13 Thread Kamal Mostafa
Hi Stefan-

The mode argument for open() with O_CREAT does not directly set the
permissions of the file being created -- it just specifies the mode bits
before modification by the process umask setting (see the open(2) man
page). So enabling the read and write bits for all three 'classes'
(user, group, and other) in the open() call allows the umask setting to
control the permissions. The normal default umask (0022) will strip
away the two permissions bits you questioned (group-write and other-
write), so newly created files actually *will* get created with the
permissions -rw-r--r-- you're expecting... Unless, that is, the user
has explicitly set their umask to something else, (say 0002, to allow
other members of their group write-access to their files) in which case
that same open() call will create a file with -rw-rw-r-- which is just
what the use wanted.

Specifying all six of the read/write user/group/other mode bits is the
standard way to address source code which omits it.
