[Bug 545891] Re: WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.32/kernel/power/suspend_test.c:53 suspend_test_finish+0x89/0x90()
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 464552 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/464552 Hi Iain, The warning reported here typically indicates that it took longer for your system to resume from suspend than expected. I believe there is a 5 sec barrier which your system likely exceeded. Typically you'll see something similar to PM: resume devices took 8.664 seconds in your dmesg output when this happens. A patch to prevent this warning has been applied via bug 464552. As a result I'm marking this as a duplicate to bug 464552. Please continue to track this issue at that report. Thanks! why is the status incomplete .. william clearly states the problem too and the fix too. [Bug 494062] Re: i915: KMS disabled when vga16fb is loaded with Lucid Kernel 2.6.32-7.10
The value -1 of /sys/module/i915/parameters/modeset does not mean KMS disabled. [Bug 417041] Re: Multiple GUI apps freezing with high I/O wait during typing
I can confirm that Karmic does something fishy, is it ext4 that is the culprit ? Issuing a svn up on a large project totally hangs my freshly installed, newly bought machine but works fine at work on my Hardy installed, slower machine. In theory my Home machine should be +- 25% faster with moer graphic mem etc but in reality is about 5 times slower I've mounted the working dir as both data=writeback and noatime, no luck there. Some figures. The above mentioned svn up gives me 50% iowait and takes a huge amount of time, the same at work takes at it worst up 10% iowait and completes in no time. I have two disks and mounted disk2 as /srv which I use as data-disk and I have my home-dir there as well. No speedup. Thanks for the pointer yet it seems not to be an option if someone else is logged onto their own desktop session and is doing real work which is the scenario I need to solve. Also it's much to technical for the users that need this. I understand the Ubuntu maintainers see their responsibility in packaging GNOME and not in fixing all bugs/adding features that have not been implemented upstream and that seems perfectly valid. I would like to know whether the Ubuntu maintainers do feel responsible to forwarding bugs reported against supported versions of Ubuntu upstream and referencing them here. Anyway these are the reports I found that seem to address part of the issue: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=592976 I haven't found a bug report that addresses the fact that gdm cannot be configured as server anymore. [Bug 546692] [NEW] Ambiguous file name in warning dialog when adding files
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: brasero apt-cache policy brasero brasero: Installed: 2.29.91-0ubuntu2 Candidate: 2.29.91-0ubuntu2 Version table: *** 2.29.91-0ubuntu2 0 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status I'm working with an Apple Mac OSX 10.4 installation CD image. It began as a .dmg and was converted to .img using dmg2img as per the Ubuntu help wiki instructions. The .img hfsplus file-system is loop-mounted at /mnt/hfs/. When adding all files under /mnt/hfs/ to a new data project Brasero shows a modal dialog box saying: Do you really want to add English.lproj to the selection? The children of this directory will have 7 parent directories. Brasero can create an image of such a file hierarchy and burn it; but the disc may not be readable on all operating systems. Note: Such a file hierarchy is known to work on Linux. The problem here is that English.lproj exists in lots of sub- directories within the directory-tree being added to the project. Checking with 'find' shows 210 occurrences: find /mnt/hfs -name 'English.lproj' 2/dev/null | wc -l 210 The dialog should give the full path to the file as an additional element in the dialog, so as not to make the headline title harder to read, but still ensuring the user knows the exact file being reported. ** Affects: brasero (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Ambiguous file name in warning dialog when adding files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/546692 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 476817] Re: [i855] [i855] [karmic] X freezes with intel 855GM videocard
There are potential fixes for this in the upstream development version. I uploaded it for Lucid to the following PPA: https://launchpad.net/~brian-rogers/+archive/experimental I can't simply upload this version for Karmic because it requires new versions of support libraries, but I can backport the important fixes. If someone can verify this version fixes the bug in Lucid, I'll backport the changes and we can get them in Karmic. Also, right now this PPA contains a Karmic package that bypasses a graphical operation that was crashing i845 chips. The side effect is extremely glitchy graphics, though. It would be useful to know if the i855 problem is caused by the same operation. So testing on Karmic is also useful. Ah, indeed I mixed up the images wrt. the save button. By all means put it back, yes! To put in my 2c about the mode selector, I actually like the postprocessing option, so that you can scan once, and then quickly switch between them to see what is more appropriate (you might scan a document which is mostly text, but has a few embedded graphics in it which you want to keep as color). But I figure this is a bigger structural change which might not be suitable for lucid, so a dropdown menu scan text/scan photo sounds fine. After you used the application once, you only ever want to use the keyboard shortcuts anyway, I figure. Like Ctrl+T and Ctrl+P? [Bug 543177] Re: hybrid usb backend doesn't work with usblp if printer needs to load firmware (HP LJ 1000/1005/1018/1020/P100x/...)

[Bug 542378] Re: Not reached assertion failed in boredom_timeout
The bug related to eternal waiting for / [SM] appears to be a real problem then. The message mountall.c:2726: Not reached assertion failed is unfortunately not helpful though. I've looked at mountall.c, and that message is simply because we both pressed ENTER, when the valid choices were [SM], ie S (skip) or M (maintenance shell). There appears to be a buglet here: either plymouth_prompt should not be allowing ENTER, or mountall.c should be handling it. But the message is unfortunately not telling us anything about why / is not available. Without acerhk the Problem doesn't happen. -- [FUJITSU SIEMENS AMILO Li 2735] suspend/resume failure https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/337470 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 131094] Re: Heavy Disk I/O harms desktop responsiveness
Please could the severity/importance of this bug be raised. I would consider a bug which has been prevalent for almost 3 years, which caused extreme slowdown of the entire desktop when there is any kind of high disk activity, to be pretty serious. This drastically affect my usage and productivity of the desktop on a daily basis. Up until this time I have always thought it's just how linux is and the benefit of all the other great features outweighs a bit of slow down. Well it seems to be getting worse and as I start to use even more of the potential of my PC's I am getting a little tired of it. Recently been testing ubuntuone extensively and I suspect a big portion of my extremely slow index and read issues, of the thousands of files I have in my ubuntuone folder, is actually caused by this bug. Although there are still some improvements which could be made in that process which the ubuntuone team are actively working on and doing some great work. There at least someone is working on big issues but sadly it seems only due to the commercial potential of ubuntuone. This seems to be a kernel issue as per this bug report: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12309 But the status of that bug is confusing as it's marked as closed due to insufficient information. Does anyone know who is working this? I have attempted to contact the person assigned as well as Ben Gamari, who I see is subscribed to this bug on launchpad as well, for some clarification. I will patiently wait their response. What testing needs to be done and what can be done from a non-developers perspective to fix this. IMO this is the worst bug in linux right now and I think a bit more attention must be brought to it, more than just a slashdot article: http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/01/15/049201 I would not recommend Ubuntu or Linux to any new users until this bug is fixed. It is embarrassing when trying to praise all the benefits of using linux to a Windows user when their entire desktop locks up when trying to do simple things like run a backup or unrar a file. In the past I have attributed slowness issues in several other applications as application specific problems. There have been bugs logged for: Unison, Firefox, downthemall FF plugin, unrar, ubuntuone, flash, gnome, VMWare, Virtualbox, qemu and kvm etc etc. I think all of these issues could be attributed to this one problem. There are too many apps that experience slowness and grey outs for it not to be related. this happens between disks or on the same disk, between disk type like usb, ide or sata. So we must not confuse the problem. If there is any kind of disk IO the machine freezes. As the bug above says: Large I/O operations result in slow performance and high iowait times. That is the problem as far I can tell. I offer any help required to fix this bug. Just let me know what i need to do. But please lets raise the importance. This is a critical issue, not medium. Btw, using this patch, do you have to use the nomodeset option? No, everything is gonna work as it should (including the flicker free boot ,because the boot screen will use the same resolution as the dekstop). -- [Lucid] ATI KMS causes DRM error on X200M https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/509273 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult
Does an interface freeze really mean that an obvious bug in the interface has to fester for six more months? Nobody's suggesting changing what the interface looks like (well, not in *this* bug report), just how it acts. This is a *huge* problem in Ambiance now that the resize target is only a single pixel out of thousands. -- Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160311 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 545871] Re: [lucid] downgrade to stable 2.10
Hello Michael, thanks for following up. So it seems that at least you do _not_ consider 2.11 an experimental development snapshot which you wouldn't like to see shipped? Michael Chudobiak [2010-03-24 13:47 -]: 1. The import folder is specified in the Preferences button of the import dialog. Not a bug :-) Ah, I guess it's a different philosophy now. Until 2.10, gthumb did (for me, anyway) exactly the right thing and did not try to own my photos. I create a subfolder for each event and label the directory accordingly, so that I can copy them around conveniently, have them browsable on my server, and be able to view them without the help of a separate database file. F-Spot and Shotwell fail utterly in that regard, since they stash away imported photos in an unmanageable internal hierarchy. Thus for me the destination directory isn't a preference, but something that I set each time I import photos. But I guess its a design decision how gthumb should treat photo folders and import. But of course it's your prerogative how to handle that. I guess I can resort back to dragdrop in nautilus, and do not use a photo manager at all then. 2. Camera off - not sure about that. Please file a bug upstream. Done, https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=613875 3. Multiple select - https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=610419. I'm not sure if/how that will be resolved. 4. Drag to folders - not implemented yet - should be - https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=593431 Thanks for the references. 5. Re-enable thumbnails - fixed in git, will be in 2.11.2.1. Wrt. thumbnails I also found that the import dialog does not have any thumbnails at all. That's a pretty big showstopper, since you have no way to select which pictures you are interested in. Filed as https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=613876 Anyway, I'm not sure what criteria Ubuntu uses for LTS packages, but do keep in mind that 2.10.x is totally dead upstream and no fixes are being released. 2.11.x is being actively developed and maintained. Just so you know. Thanks. It's not a trivial decision indeed, but it seems to me that 2.11 still needs some time to bake until it caught up with 2.10's stability and workflow. (While I was collecting debug info for the two bugs I just filed I had gthumb crash on me, too :( ). 2.10 was rock solid and just worked. I was told that the gvfs-umount call was broken, but fixing that should be trivial. Thank you!
