[Bug 487749] Re: trackpad-doublefinger-scroll
Hi Rovanion The default settings has been set by the upstream by a lot of thought process. The default behavior or settings has to such that it covers a majority of touchpads without any extra configuration and as of I know there are many laptops that has a touchpad without multitouch support. Emulation doesn't generate that experience in any way. Because there are many users who want to have their own tastes and configuration they have provided a good enough and easy interface for that. However the default settings is a discretion of the developers who have chosen in the very right of all. So even requesting them of such a choice for changing the default settings , isn't a good idea, in that sense I'm closing this bug report. However if you have a very strong thought that you can personally convince them, I will advice you to personally contact them rather that waiting here in a bug report. Sorry, what is the 'bug'? If it works after a 'modprobe acpiphp', then I think this bug needs to be marked invalid against libvirt and eucalyptus. [Bug 487749] Re: trackpad-doublefinger-scroll
You are correct, it's not just the touchpads of the Synaptics brand, which all support multi-finger gestures, that have their drivers in the xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package. Also ALPS touchpad which do not support these gestures have drivers in this package. [Bug 33075] Re: Dell Inspiron 8200 Nvidia proprietary driver causes display errors (vertical lines on the right, and mirror effect on the bottom)
Another thumbs up for kel...@nvnews.net 's custom EDID for the Dell Inspiron 8200! Using a lucid lynx 10.04 LTS, encountered black screen on boot after activating the nvidia accelerated graphics driver (version 96) from the hardware drivers panel. Resolved by downloading kelvin's custom EDID and adding the following to an empty xorg.conf: Section Device Identifier Videocard0 Driver nvidia Option AddARGBGLXVisuals true Option UseDisplayDevice DFP-0 Option CustomEDID DFP-0:/etc/X11/nvnew.raw EndSection Reboot, then install nvidia-96 from synaptic package manager, not from hardware drivers panel. Reboot, accelerated graphics driver works at 1600x1200. Added option lines back into new xorg.conf to be sure. [Bug 621084] Re: gir1.0-syncdaemon-1.0 should depend on gir1.0-dbus-1.0
Er, no, I obviously installed gir1.0-syncdaemon-1.0 to test this, as that's the very package being verified here. Installing this package doesn't pull anything that exposes a 'gi.repository' to python, so I don't know how to test this in a pristine environment. In any case, I've just checked the dependencies of the gir1.0-syncdaemon-1.0 package in maverick-proposed, and it has *no* Depends: line at all (neither does the previous version). So given the subject of this bug report, I'm going to mark this SRU verification- failed. ** Tags added: verification-failed ** Tags removed: verification-needed -- gir1.0-syncdaemon-1.0 should depend on gir1.0-dbus-1.0 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/621084 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 628249] Re: package desktop-base (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess dpkg-deb --control returned error exit status 2
Hi. Please note that my knowledge of Ubuntu/linux is terribly lacking. I am not sure is this is the same bug, but it kind of looks related at the least. I've hit this bug twice, which means I had to reinstall Lucid twice. In order to replicate it, I would have to install it yet again - which I will do only if it is necessary: which it might not be. I've setup a live-persistent external HDD. I'm trying to install several math programs (for use in my section at work). While Gnome is still the 'active' desktop, I've also added KDE and LXDE: several programs seem to be kind of native to those, and installing them helped (ex. for KDE saving of program configurations, and also for KDE help-files to work). However. When trying to add XFCE4, 'desktop-base' came into play. It seems as if it is trying to save changes (?the update?) to files which in the live-persistence are read-only. This is reminiscent of of init- whatever, and vmlinux-whatever when I first tried out Ultimate Edition 2.7 (or was it 2.6? sorry), and tried to upgrade it. An OpenSUSE-user friend helped me then (something with 'symlinks'?), and later (soon) you guys fixed that via another update. The effect of this is that Synaptic will eternally try and 'repair' the 'error'. I couldn't figure out how to get rid of it, so the only alternative was to reinstall. Which sucked. The second time round, something else (I do not know what), also slipped in the dependency to 'desktop-base'. Again I had to reinstall. Which has turned me into a paranoid searcher of 'desktop-base' whenever I use Synaptic. While not critical, it was an identical experience as with the init/vmlinux problems I had with Lucid-Synaptic at the start. I hope this report will be of use.
