Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem

current Ubuntu stable release(maverick ubuntu 10.10), this would help us
a lot. If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate

[Bug 487749] Re: trackpad-doublefinger-scroll

2010-11-08 Thread Gursimran singh Mohar
Hi Rovanion

The default settings has been set by the upstream by a lot of thought
process. The default behavior or settings has to such that it covers a
majority of touchpads without any extra configuration and as of I know
there are many laptops that has a touchpad without multitouch support.
Emulation doesn't generate that experience in any way.

Because there are many users who want to have their own tastes and
configuration they have provided a good enough and easy interface for
that. However the default settings is a discretion of the developers who
have chosen in the very right of all. So even requesting them of such a
choice for changing the default settings , isn't a good idea, in that
sense I'm closing this bug report. However if you have a very strong
thought that you can personally convince them, I will advice you to
personally contact them rather that waiting here in a bug report.

Thanks
Keep filing bugs, to make ubuntu better!!

I have the same motherboard and had no issues till the other day when I
upgraded my dual boot Windows from XP to 64 bit 7.

Maverick will work just fine doing halts, suspends and restarts from a
clean power on. However if you boot into Windows 7 and then reboot in
Maverick then Maverick will be unable to suspend, reboot or halt - it
will go through most of the motions and then hang requiring a reset
button press or hard power off.

My conjecture would be that Windows is setting the hardware into a state
that Maverick can't cope with.

[Bug 672689] [NEW] Screen areas sometimes get unrefreshable

2010-11-08 Thread martonmiklos
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4295670/ubuntu_error.png

Sometimes an area of the screen get somehow freezed. It means that if I
open a new window the unrefreshed area hides it. It is very annoying,
because the only way to get rid of this is the restarting the xserver
with ctrl-alt-backspace.

I have not noticed this issue if I start the ubuntu in low graphics mode

[Bug 602060] Re: Virtio network stops working after dynamic virtio disk attachment

2010-11-08 Thread Serge Hallyn
Sorry, what is the 'bug'? If it works after a 'modprobe acpiphp',
then I think this bug needs to be marked invalid against libvirt and
eucalyptus. You can make the module be automatically loaded by
listing it in /etc/modules.conf

If you want to pursue a bug against the kernel to have acpiphp built
in, or to have acpiphp put into /etc/modules, then you can do that
by using the 'also affects' at the top of this bug listing in
launchpad.

So, does it work for you after modprobe acpiphp?

[Bug 663642] Re: DVI doesn't work at BeagleBoard xM rev A3

2010-11-08 Thread Tobin Davis
Steve,

I would assume it is the Ubuntu kernel, as the person that actually
tested it used the maverick image and followed the directions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ARM/OMAPMaverickInstall to fix it before
booting. He then enabled maverick-proposed based on the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed to enable the proposed
updates and updated the kernel using apt-get dist-upgrade. I don't
think the linaro kernel is used in this process, but I am waiting for
him to verify.

You are correct, it's not just the touchpads of the Synaptics brand,
which all support multi-finger gestures, that have their drivers in the
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package. Also ALPS touchpad which do not
support these gestures have drivers in this package.

[Bug 33075] Re: Dell Inspiron 8200 Nvidia proprietary driver causes display errors (vertical lines on the right, and mirror effect on the bottom)

2010-11-08 Thread Stafford Ritchie
Another thumbs up for kel...@nvnews.net 's custom EDID for the Dell
Inspiron 8200!

Using a lucid lynx 10.04 LTS, encountered black screen on boot after
activating the nvidia accelerated graphics driver (version 96) from the
hardware drivers panel.

Resolved by downloading kelvin's custom EDID and adding the following to an
empty xorg.conf:
Section Device
Identifier Videocard0
Driver nvidia
Option AddARGBGLXVisuals true
Option UseDisplayDevice DFP-0
Option CustomEDID DFP-0:/etc/X11/nvnew.raw
EndSection

Reboot, then install nvidia-96 from synaptic package manager, not from
hardware drivers panel.
Reboot, accelerated graphics driver works at 1600x1200. Added option lines
back into new xorg.conf to be sure.

2010-11-08 Thread Steve Langasek
Er, no, I obviously installed gir1.0-syncdaemon-1.0 to test this, as
that's the very package being verified here. Installing this package
doesn't pull anything that exposes a 'gi.repository' to python, so I
don't know how to test this in a pristine environment.

In any case, I've just checked the dependencies of the
gir1.0-syncdaemon-1.0 package in maverick-proposed, and it has *no*
Depends: line at all (neither does the previous version). So given the
subject of this bug report, I'm going to mark this SRU verification-
failed.

[Bug 672699] [NEW] screen-reader does not work

2010-11-08 Thread Charlie Kravetz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: debian-installer

RELEASE: Natty Narwhal

CD/DVD VARIANT: Ubuntu 32bit alternate cd

ISO BUILD: 2010-11-08

SYMPTOMS: There is no voice for the option to install using the screen-
reader

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

1. burn the Ubuntu alternate image to DVD (oversize image won't fit on CD-R)
2. start computer with dvd
3. select language (default - English)
4. hit F5, Accessibility
5. arrow down three times to Screen-Reader
6. hit Enter
7. hit Enter

Note that there is no sound; Screen-Reader is not audible, which makes
this fail for accessible installation.

[Bug 628249] Re: package desktop-base (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess dpkg-deb --control returned error exit status 2

2010-11-08 Thread CoronaBunny
Hi.

Please note that my knowledge of Ubuntu/linux is terribly lacking. I am
not sure is this is the same bug, but it kind of looks related at the
least.

I've hit this bug twice, which means I had to reinstall Lucid twice. In
order to replicate it, I would have to install it yet again - which I
will do only if it is necessary: which it might not be.

I've setup a live-persistent external HDD. I'm trying to install several
math programs (for use in my section at work). While Gnome is still the
'active' desktop, I've also added KDE and LXDE: several programs seem to
be kind of native to those, and installing them helped (ex. for KDE
saving of program configurations, and also for KDE help-files to work).

However. When trying to add XFCE4, 'desktop-base' came into play. It
seems as if it is trying to save changes (?the update?) to files which
in the live-persistence are read-only. This is reminiscent of of init-
whatever, and vmlinux-whatever when I first tried out Ultimate Edition
2.7 (or was it 2.6? sorry), and tried to upgrade it. An OpenSUSE-user
friend helped me then (something with 'symlinks'?), and later (soon) you
guys fixed that via another update.

The effect of this is that Synaptic will eternally try and 'repair' the
'error'. I couldn't figure out how to get rid of it, so the only
alternative was to reinstall. Which sucked. The second time round,
something else (I do not know what), also slipped in the dependency to
'desktop-base'. Again I had to reinstall. Which has turned me into a
paranoid searcher of 'desktop-base' whenever I use Synaptic.

While not critical, it was an identical experience as with the
init/vmlinux problems I had with Lucid-Synaptic at the start.

I hope this report will be of use.

Regards,
R.

2010-11-08 Thread Gaëtan Duchaussois
Sorry i was not clear. The modprobe acpiphp is mandatory for device hot-
plugging, but when you try to hotplug some device you loose network.
Seem to be an acpiphp bug preventing device hot-plugging. This bug is a
real one.

[Bug 120363] Re: NetworkManager should support smartcard based certificate

2010-11-08 Thread Mathieu Trudel
I'm marking this bug as Fix Released since we've been carrying this
patch for a little while now, at least it's in Maverick and Lucid as
well from a quick glance at it...

If someone is having additional issues with smartcard auth, please file
a new bug so we can look at what is happening.

** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu)
   Status: Triaged = Fix Released
