[Bug 771435] Re: Cannot select multiple events in sidebar
Hi, This is a documentation bug. As I understand it, it's never been possible to select multiple events in the sidebar. The only way to select multiple events (say if you want to merge them into two events) is to switch to the Events Directory Page by clicking on Events in the sidebar, and then to select multiple event thumbnails in the corresponding view. [Bug 71754] Re: Trying to install the character é fails with vim-latexsuite
despite 'working as designed', this behaviour is still very annoying. one should not expect average users of an Ubuntu package to read upstream FAQs and fix an issue by manually editing config files when all they want is to actually _type_ a character in their native script (and not even some obscure rarely-used one). why not include that one-liner fix in the package by default? Grant. ** Changed in: vim-latexsuite (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = Opinion -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/71754 Title: Trying to install the character é fails with vim-latexsuite -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This shows mojibake (broken text) for me too. In my settings I have changed the default encoding ISO-8859-1 to UTF-8. Unfortunately, there's nothing that can be fixed in Chromium - the bug is with the Web site. [Bug 745112] Re: [arrandale] desktop is messed up (goes black) when laptop is docked with two external 1920x1200 monitors (x86_64)
On lp #747205 we discovered by creating a new user account, that having certain RANDR operations present in monitors.xml would trigger it, presumably because gnome-settings-daemon would pick up those configuration settings and try applying them, triggering an underlying bug in RANDR. Perhaps fiddling with the primary monitor setting did it? 734756 collected register dumps on the issue, and experimented with some dpms forcing from the userspace side. My elderberry PPA was found to have some positive effects, but didn't fix it sufficiently completely to warrant pursuing that to work around the kernel issue. drm-intel-next- proposed did not boot on this reporter's hardware. Video and photos are available on bug #750259. We also examined gpu error states and found this bug is not a gpu lockup issue (as 747205 suggested). The drm-intel-next-proposed kernel from around 4/21 was found to fix it. Bug #737891 includes reports of this issue, among other problems. Maverick was re-tested via livecd and the issue was not reproduced (maybe for the same reasons as creating a new account in bug 747205 did not reproduce? Reporters also found that deleting monitors.xml has an ameliorative effect.) Fiddling with which monitor was listed as primary in monitors.xml appeared also to resolve things for at least one person. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/745112 Title: [arrandale] desktop is messed up (goes black) when laptop is docked with two external 1920x1200 monitors (x86_64) -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 745112] Re: [arrandale] desktop is messed up (goes black) when laptop is docked with two external 1920x1200 monitors (x86_64)
Bug #761236 is the broken-out portion of bug #737891 which is this specific issue. [Bug 745112] Re: [arrandale] desktop is messed up (goes black) when laptop is docked with two external 1920x1200 monitors (x86_64)
That should capture all the background on the various instances of this bug that I've been working with people on. Basically, there are some variations in symptoms but all of the reports are particular to Arrandale, occur in relationship with setting up external screens (perhaps something relating to primary monitor settings), and appear to be fixed in the latest kernel. The next step for this bug is that we need to narrow down what patch in the upstream kernel provides the fix. The best way to achieve this is via doing a git bisection search. Unfortunately none of us Ubuntu-X guys have Arrandale hardware, so if this bug is going to get fixed in natty we need a volunteer to do this. It is a bit technical but well documented in a paint-by-numbers fashion at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection.
An alternative thing to investigate: There is another bug particular to Sandybridge, with roughly similar symptoms to this one, which has already been git bisected and found a candidate patch. The flagged patch with the fix appears to also affect Arrandale, so I have a hunch it *might* also solve this bug. But that's just a wild guess. Please install and boot this kernel to see if the issue can be reproduced; if not, then this bug may be a dupe of bug #761065: http://people.canonical.com/~acelan/bugs/lp753189/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/745112 Title: [arrandale] desktop is messed up (goes black) when laptop is docked with two external 1920x1200 monitors (x86_64) -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 737891] Re: [Arrandale] gnome-display-properties unable to correctly enable monitors connected to VGA
Right, and 761236 is looking like a dupe of a common Arrandale bug, #745112. That in turn *might* be a sub-case of bug #761065 which affects late-model cards and for which a kernel fix is being verified. So, as to the disposition of this bug report: We've factored out the single-monitor issue Andres had, so what remains is the multi-monitor case, where total X width is 4096. As mentioned above in comment #15, the X portion of that issue is essentially just bug #555641 and not something we need to track here. The bug watch on the upstream FDO bug appears to be focusing on that aspect of this bug. After factoring out those two X bugs, the one remaining bit is that gnome-display-properties is failing to check for screen width 4096 when compiz is running. Basically, gnome-desktop must include a check that target resolution = max texture width if compiz is enabled. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu Natty) Status: Confirmed = Invalid ** Changed in: gnome-desktop (Ubuntu Natty) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: gnome-desktop (Ubuntu Natty) Status: Invalid = New ** Changed in: gnome-desktop (Ubuntu Natty) Milestone: None = natty-updates ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu Natty) Importance: High = Wishlist -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/737891 Title: [Arrandale] gnome-display-properties unable to correctly enable monitors connected to VGA -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 730968] Re: Upgrade from Maverick to Natty ignores some config settings
I've been playing around with different themes with Unity and had this black on black issue too. It seems that the Ambiance theme is the only one that will put white text on the black panel, though the icons are still black. Dust and other themes will set black panel with black text. Some of the Equinox themes also do this (but not all), though they aren't standard. Setting an opacity with compiz-config in the Unity plugin helps things a bit (if you have a lighter background, of course). It seems silly that the themes included with Ubuntu will not be usable with the default environment. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/730968 Title: Upgrade from Maverick to Natty ignores some config settings -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 753994] Re: [arrandale] Display is slanted when using 1360x768 resolution
Hmm, starting to sound like a bad modeline. 1. When did you first start noticing this? Were you running natty previously and able to set this resolution without experiencing this problem? Or was this the first time you tested it on natty? Carl, did it happen on maverick for you as well, like Daniel? 2. Does this behavior occur for any other resolutions? 3. If you connect an external monitor, does the problem occur on the external monitor as well? 4. Since it sounds like it worked on maverick, please boot maverick and set the resolution to 1360x768, and then capture 'xrandr --verbose' and Xorg.0.log and attach to this bug report. This will provide the old (working) modeline for comparison with your natty logs. 5. The Hangtimer elapsed... error sounds reminiscent of bug #761065, although that's a different generation of chip. But test the proposed kernel for that bug to see if it resolves this as well: http://people.canonical.com/~acelan/bugs/lp753189/ ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu Natty) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/753994 Title: [arrandale] Display is slanted when using 1360x768 resolution -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 771560] [NEW] GRUB menu pops up needlessly during factory install process
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: dell-recovery version: 0.98 In a very specific factory install process, WinPE is present on one of the partitions for the duration of install, but gone after install completes. Because of this, grub-installer seems to get it in it's mind that there should be a Windows option in the grub menu. That windows option is easily overridden by placing GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER=true in /etc/default/grub, but the 10 second menu is still generated because of os-prober. In scenarios that it's guaranteed only one OS is around a dummy os- prober can be installed to work around this. Fix: A small dummy os-prober is installed. Regression Potential: None. This only affects dell factory install process. ** Affects: dell-recovery (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/771560 Title: GRUB menu pops up needlessly during factory install process -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 771562] [NEW] [UIFe] Whitelist system-config-printer-applet
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: unity system-config-printer-applet has not been ported to an appindicator (see bug 588200). In 10.10 and previous releases, the applet shows when a job is sent to the printer and gives the user easy access to pause, cancel, or view print jobs. Without this, the user would need to open the Dash then open Printing. Right click on the printer and select View Print Queue. That is quite a few steps for something that used to be easy to access. To fix, add scp-dbus-service to the systray whitelist. There is no regression potential.
