[Bug 724369] Re: Port to gnome-panel 3 and gtk 3

2011-10-24 Thread György Balló
There is available an another GNOME 3 port: lp:~jconti/indicator-
applet/gnome3

I'm using this branch on Arch Linux, and it works well. Indicat-appmenu
works too. I think it's stable enough to make a release from this
branch.

[Bug 880876] [NEW] Unity causes ibus to not work correctly

2011-10-24 Thread Brian Salemink
Public bug reported:

When using unity the ibus input does not work correctly for the Korean
language. When typing in Korean the space appears before the previous
character rather than after it should. When under unity-2d and gnome-shell the
ibus input works correctly. Issues only arise when using unity. On a side
note, Google chrome works correctly while all the other apps do not.
1) Ubuntu 11.10 32 bit
2)unity 4.22.0-0ubuntu3
3)Expected input: 가나다
4)Problem input: 가나 다 // Notice the position of the space

I believe that since this causes problems for an entire language that it
should be considered high-priority.

[Bug 880875] [NEW] GTali : 1st column flips when button text changes

2011-10-24 Thread Vincent Mahe
Public bug reported:

Dependending on the state of the Roll button and the language, the width of
the the first column (which displays the dices) changes, with a bad taste for
the user.
Example : in French translation, the button is Tout relancer! at beginning of
the play sequence, which implies a (quite) large column, and whe the user has
deselected a dice, the button is Lancer, which means a shorter column, and
this flip of the column (and the corresponding horizotal move of the dices) is
really annoying (like a stroboscopic effect if the user deselects/reselects
dices during play.
I propose that the width of the column is fixed and could be resized by the
user (to take in account some verbose translations, like the French one), in
order to avoid the automatic multiple resizings described above...

Current OS : Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot

[Bug 880874] [NEW] rtl8192cu no longer connects

2011-10-24 Thread Michael J Daniel
Public bug reported:

With 11.04 no drivers were loaded the CQU-906 USB wifi dongle was plugged in.
Downloaded, built, and installed drivers from realtek.
They connected with the internet when the dongle was plugged in.

Upgrading to 11.10 resulted in linux-firmware drivers being loaded when dongle
was plugged in.
linux-firmware version 1.60
But that driver doesn't connect to the internet.

Tried to build and install the realtek drivers, but compile failed
because smp-lock.h file is missing.

[Bug 880872] [NEW] [oneiric] [precise] ubiquity shows pink areas

2011-10-24 Thread Roberto C. Morano
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

When the gtk theme used is not Ambiance/Radiance Ubiquity draws part of
the installer as pink blocks.

I've been looking into it and I found that it is cause of the explicit use in
code of css colors [1] which are defined in Ambiance/Radiance themes but they
are not in other gtk themes like Adwaita.
The exactly colors that are used are dark_fg_color and dark_bg_color. They
are used to tint some parts of the UI.

I do attach a patch for Ubiquity (trunk) to check wether the [dark]
colors are defined in the gtk theme or not and to use them or not
consequently.

[Bug 880881] [NEW] Power indicator does not combine multiple battery status

2011-10-24 Thread Mathieu De Zutter
Public bug reported:

I have an EliteBook 8540w with internal and external battery running Ubuntu
11.10 (oneiric).
Linux 3.0.0-12-generic #20-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 7 14:56:25 UTC 2011 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The power indicator (indicator-power, version 0.9-0ubuntu2) does not combine
the status of both batteries.
E.g. if one battery still has 1 hour left, and the other has 2 hours left, it
will show 1:00 or 2:00, instead of 3:00.
E.g. When the external battery is almost run out (but the internal one is still
charged), the indicator becomes red, instead of staying white/grey. It should
only be red when both batteries are almost drained.
E.g. when the internal one is fully charged, and the external one is
discharging, the estimated time show is the estimated time that the external
one will be discharged, not taking into account the internal one. see attached
screenshot (total time show should be around 4 hours)

The original applet provided by gnome (I re-enabled the notification
area) does (still) have the behavior as I expect. In other words, this
is a regression compared to 10.10 (pre-unity).

[Bug 880886] [NEW] [Oneiric or Precise] Doesn't associated with mnemonic_widget property or accessibility related properties with some preference tool dialogs in GNOME Control Center application

2011-10-24 Thread Attila Hammer
Public bug reported:

Dear Developers,

I using Ubuntu Oneiric with Orca Screen Reader.
Unfortunately GNOME developers doesn't associated lot of preference dialogs
with the mnemonic_widget property or Accessibility related properties with real
dialogue widgets for labels, and Orca Screen Reader this situation doesn't
spokening a widget label with presenting the screen.
A typical example if you launch GNOME Control Center in Oneiric, and activate
for example the power management related preference tool.
You will be see all labels in the screen, but a screen reader user only hear
for example comboboxes items, but not known what meaning the actual combobox
vidget, what the real label a combobox widget.

I maked a little patch with partialy fix this problem, but the main headers
labels (on battery and when connected) is doesn't spokening now.
Other labels are spokened right if I applied my patch, but need spokening too
the header related labels I think before real label of a widget.

I attaching my starting point patch to you review I what changed the UI
file, but I please give your hint to I fix this problem entire.

I would like reviewing all GNOME Control Center preference dialogs with
screen reader perspective, and I welcome would like working this type
fixes when beginning Precise development cicle.

[Bug 880882] [NEW] X starts with garbled screen, restarting X from cli fixes

2011-10-24 Thread Jan
Public bug reported:

I am running an Asus eeePC 1101HA with a (dreaded) Poulsbo video card. I
upgraded from Natty to Oneric, and X wouldn't start anymore. Under Natty
I ran X with fbdev driver since the default driver would break
suspend/resume. I had applied the fix from
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportComponentsVideoCardsPoulsboAlternatives
to get 1366x768 resolution.

After upgrading and trying all kinds of things to fix this, the situation is as
follows:
- Apparently, under kernel 3.0.0.12, the 'correct' way to run X is with fbdev,
which is accellerated by a kernel module of either 'poulsbo' or 'psb_gfx'. I
have re-enabled the fix from
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportComponentsVideoCardsPoulsboAlternatives
to get native resulution, under either vesa or fbdev. (If there is some other
driver comination I should try, please tell me.) Without this workaround I can
only get 640x480 resolution.
- I can start and run under the VESA driver, everything works fine but screen
updates in video are sloow.
- I can run the system with the fbdev driver enabled. If I do this X starts up
with a garbled screen. How it is garbled depends on the exact settings I'm
using, but one common way is that each row of pixels is shifted a dozen pixels
or so compared to the row above it.

I have tried this last fbdev setup with several settings:
- I have tried blacklisting 'poulsbo' and/or 'psb_gfx' in all four combinations
in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf. If poulsbo gets loaded, X starts up with a
garbled screen, but if I log into a console and kill X it restarts correctly.
If poulsbo is blacklisted, X is garbled and stays garbled if I kill it.
Disabling psb_gfx did not have any visible results.
- I have played a bit with the GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX variable in
/etc/default/grub. Different settings result in different ways the screen gets
garbled, but otherwise there's no difference. Some settings of this variable
cause even the text console to be garbled.

I have also tried starting the system with the 2.6.38 kernel, which was
the default before the upgrade, but to no avail.

I suspect the problem is with the video mode transition from GRUB to X
which somehow fails, while the transition to/from textmode works. (note:
after startup, switching to a text console and back to X without
restarting X does not fix the problem)

I tried running a fresh Oneric from live usb, but it resulted in bug
#880580. For completeness, after upgrade I also had a problem with
sound, but that appears to be unrelated and has a workaround available
(#825709).

[Bug 880884] [NEW] Unity launcher does not react on first right-click

When right-clicking on an entry in the launcher (e.g. the trash can) the
context menu is shown but inactive (nothing can be chosen). In those
cases one needs to repeat that right click after having clicked
someplace else. After that second right-click one can choose e.g. Empty
Trash.

[Bug 880887] [NEW] CVE-2011-2942

2011-10-24 Thread Marc Deslauriers
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

RHSA-2011:1065 introduced a regression in the Ethernet bridge
implementation. If a system had an interface in a bridge, and an
attacker on the local network could send packets to that interface, they
could cause a denial of service on that system. Xen hypervisor and KVM
(Kernel-based Virtual Machine) hosts often deploy bridge interfaces

[Bug 875523] Re: LaCie usb storage doesn't mount

Re: [Bug 804595] Re: Sony Vaio VPCS132FX/B Ambient Light sensor does not work

2011-10-24 Thread Kyrillos
Does this control just keyboard backlight only or will it enable the ambient
light sensor to change display backlight as well since this is the full use
of the sensor? I haven't tried your solution yet but I would still flag this
as a bug if it doesn't control display backlight. I will report back later
today

Seems like this is a kernel issue, with users of other Distros
 experiencing the same problem.

 A fix is:

Added file sony-laptop.conf with single line:
options sony-laptop kbd_backlight=1
to /etc/modprobe.d/ and it seems to work fine now.

 Title:
Sony Vaio VPCS132FX/B Ambient Light sensor does not work

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

 Bug description:
Sony Vaio VPCS132FX/B Ambient Light sensor does not work to dim
backlit keyboard and display. Backlight for Keyboard stays on
constantly with every key stroke and times out after a bit. Also Power
Manager does not dim display when On Battery when the option is
checked. This dramatically kills battery and makes the whole Intel
IPM(Intelligent Power Management) patch useless There is a patch
for the F Series posted on http://code.google.com/p/vaio-f11-linux/.
This patch only works with a plain linux kernel meaning I would lose
all the Ubuntu related patches to the plain linux kernel. I'm sure It
wouldn't be hard to apply this to a new kernel release. There has been
support added for Macbooks with the same type of ambient light sensor
hardware, is it possible that this can be streamlined to the Sony Vaio
  line?

[Bug 540333] Re: Brightness hot-keys don't work on Samsung NC10

2011-10-24 Thread papukaija
Closing since the brightness control itself works starting with Karmic
as long as you've upgraded your BIOS to at least v.11CA. Please see the
link in #23 for alternative solutions if you don't want to upgrade your
BIOS.

However, there are related issues which don't affect the brightness
control itself: Oneiric users will find following bug 810093 useful. The
issue about completely enabling/disabling baclight (eg screen on/off)
with Fn-F5 button is tracked at bug 296489.

[Bug 880882] Re: X starts with garbled screen, restarting X from cli fixes

2011-10-24 Thread Jan
Additional info: I was not entirely correct about the poulsbo/psb_gfx
blacklisting combinations. Poulsbo blacklisted and psb_gfx enabled
results in a garbled screen that isn't even fixed by restarting X. All
other combinations result in a garbled X that can be fixed by restarting
X. There is a visible speed difference from enabling poulsbo.

A third bug I had after upgrading to oneric is #880865, resume failure
under kernel 3.0.0, but that appears to be unrelated.

[Bug 880520] Re: internal system error Ubuntu 11.04

2011-10-24 Thread Matthias Klumpp
The PK APT backend is completely outdated, so this issues won't be fixed, I
guess.
You might want to switch to the APTcc backend (install packagekit-backend-aptcc
and set the DefaultBackend in /etc/PackageKit/PackageKit.conf to aptcc)
Alternatively, you can upgrade PK to a newer version.
I will remove the APT backend in Debian and Ubuntu very soon. (meaning: It
won't be there in Ubuntu Precise)

[Bug 880314] Re: 5

2011-10-24 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment to this bug report it
seems that there may be a problem with your hardware. I'd recommend
performing a back up and then investigate the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

fixing the unity launcher in terms of trash external drives

I have the same problem with Oneiric for every user on my laptop.
But i have found a disgusting way to pass the problem for the time being.
Put the next statement in the Startup Applications Preferences for every user:
'pkexec /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-backlight-helper --set-brightness X'
where X is a number from 0 till 7, 0 is low and 7 is high brightness.

worked perfectly (for the exception of togling the screen on/off but
that's bug 296489) on NC10 in Natty witout flickering.

[Bug 873482] Re: elantech: Touchpad always reports 3 finger tap as 1 finger tap

2011-10-24 Thread Jason Conti
bwat47: I've noticed the same thing, but I'm not certain it is related
to the xorg driver. Last time it happened, I was looking at it in xev,
and getting weird data. Certain taps would send a flood of events with
weird button values between 4 and 6. I killed the x server and input-
events was reporting strange values on triple tap as well (usually
something like a double tap, triple tap followed by 5 or 7 position
updates all followed by syns and then the double/triple release).
Restarting the x server didn't help, which is what makes me think it
isn't related.

If I manage to reproduce it (happened after a suspend here too), I'll
attach the logs.

[Bug 865838] Re: Nouveau oops: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at (null)

2011-10-24 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? It
will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . If possible, please test
the latest release candidate kernel (Not a kernel in the daily
directory). Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the
'needs-upstream-testing' tag(Only that one tag, please leave the
others). This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to
the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the
'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed by the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream-KERNEL-VERSION'. For example, if kernel
version 3.1-rc9 fixed and issue, the tag would be: 'kernel-fixed-
upstream-v3.1-rc9'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 206346] Re: evolution will not connect to exchange 2007 server

2011-10-24 Thread Ben Young
Same problem in Ubuntu 11.10. Using Gnome Shell 3.2.1, instead of Unity.
I have been waiting almost three years, to switch from Mozilla
Thunderbird to Evolution, so I can achieve tighter integration with
Gnome, especially since 3.0 is now out. Yet, this is the only single
problem that has been holding me from moving. I can not connect to my
company's 2007 Exchange server with Evolutions, and I instead am
required to use Thunderbird. I demand you fix this as a high priority.
You're losing a huge market share, Exchange 2007 has been out for at
least four years, you're behind times, and a massive amount of users
(just a sample above) are getting frustrated by this error.

'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed by the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream-KERNEL-VERSION'. For example, if kernel
version 3.1-rc9 fixed and issue, the tag would be: 'kernel-fixed-

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 92599] Re: Incorrect (low/stuttering) refresh rate with NVIDIA driver

2011-10-24 Thread Owen Williams
Deactivating Bailer and increasing the refresh rate do improve, but
don't completely fix the problems. glxgears is smoother, but still
jerks noticeably from time to time and gets much smoother as the window
size increases. And moving and resizing windows is still much, much
slower than with compiz 0.8.6.
