[Bug 875440] Re: Cannot authenticate with saslauthd and mysql

2011-12-31 Thread Dario Nuevo
How is the progress on this, is anyone picking it up and fixing it?
I mean, manual downgrading is not really an option and MySQL based auth within
sasl is an important feature - how can this be broken so long time?

Any idea when we can expect a fix or a valid workaround in form of a
patch of the current release?

[Bug 869017] Re: Ubuntu server enables screenblanking, concealing crashdumps (DPMS is not used)

2011-12-31 Thread James A. T. Rice
Hi Fabio,

This isn't about xorg - this is about the text mode screen console that
the kernel provides.

It seems to be driven by drivers/tty/vt/vt.c , and adding consoleblank=0
kernel parameter disables the behaviour. I'd suggest making that the
default for the server edition.

Thanks
James

[Bug 658675] Re: Turn off Bluetooth also turns off wifi

2011-12-31 Thread Donald Lhoëst
Problem is still present. I'm using a Dell Inspiron 14z with a clean
install of Ubuntu 11.10 and Gnome3.

Turning off Bluetooth puts the computer into Flight Mode and therefore
shuts Wifi down. The only way to connect back is to turn the flight mode
off, turning Bluetooth on and only then wifi.

[Bug 910063] Re: Window of EOG does not has focus when opened from Nautilus

2011-12-31 Thread markba
I've retested this problem, and it is slightly different than my
original report. The first time, an image is opened from Nautilus by
EOG, focus is correct. But when you return to Nautilus, and open a
second image, focus stays with Nautilus.

Running a fresh installed 11.10 system with the latest updates (even
proposed). Tested on another 11.10 system (without proposed), also fresh
installed. They act exactly the same.

** Description changed:

- When an image is opened from Nautilus, thus starting the the standard
- image viewer, EOG, this window does not has the immediate focus. A user
- has to click into the window to move the focus to EOG.
+ The first time, an image is opened from Nautilus by EOG, focus is
+ correctly changed to EOG. But when you return to Nautilus, and open a
+ *second* image, focus stays with Nautilus. A user has to click into the
+ window to move the focus to EOG.

This problem is especially cumbersome when EOG is opened maximized: a
user can not see that the global menu which is unhidden when moving the
mouse to the title bar, is *not* the menu of EOG (it is the menu of
Nautilus...). When trying to close EOG, a user *actually* closes the
former window (= Nautilus). Because the user see nothing changing
(because a hidden window underneath is closed), he clicks another time
and only then, the EOG window is closing. The user expects to come back
to Nautilus, but he will not find it.

I don't have to explain how confusing this is.

** Changed in: unity
   Status: Incomplete = New

** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete = New

** Summary changed:

- Window of EOG does not has focus when opened from Nautilus
+ Second window of EOG does not has focus when opened from Nautilus

[Bug 910065] Re: Unhide launcher is not possible when a menu is open

2011-12-31 Thread markba
I do not agree with the fact that a user could unintentionally open the
launcher. Although this *is* a problem with the launcher (for that I've
changed the launcher revealing time from 0.15 to 0.4 seconds), this is
however not a problem in this particular case, I'll explain.

When a user has opened a menu, normally by mouse, he will also use the
mouse to actually choose a menu item: so the mouse cursor is always in
the neighbourhood of the menu area. But when he decides to switch
program (and thus neading the launcher), he intentially moves the mouse
to the left side. The distance between the menu area and the launcher
activation area (the left side) is that large, that this cannot be done
unintensionally.

[Bug 909327] Re: Cannot maximise dash window

That would be fine provided that on small screen resolutions, it
defaults to the maximised version. The display isn't great, but it's an
improvement on the unmaximised version where you can't reach the bottom
icons at all.

[Bug 910332] [NEW] Kernel wont load proper drivers for AMD A4/Radeon APU.

2011-12-31 Thread Carlos García
Public bug reported:

I just bought a SAMSUNG NPV305 with a AMD A4 APU with a ATI Radeon HD 6480G
integrated into the proccesor. Installing Ubuntu 11.10 was very difficult,
normal Live CD would only turn off the screen, and nthing can be done. Tried
the alternate install, but when install was full, everything got same results,
screen was turned off. Tried the Fn/Alt+F4 with no results, but I discovered
video worked with the HDMI video out, but Ubiquity would not be very useful on
640x480. Couldn´t change resolution. Still, I somehow managed to finish the
install at low resolution, only to find LightDM would just restart everytime I
wanted to login. However, Guest session worked. I finally managed to install
fglrx driver via GeTTY, and after a reboot my screen worked at its native
resolution (1366x768). Things I can´t fix are 1024x768 resolution on GeTTYs and
on boot process, (I usually disable plymouth splash).
I am using Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric 64-bit. Kernel 3.0

(I tried #! to see if kernel ~2.6 worked, and video outputed but at
wrong resolution.)

However I have version: 2.64-5 installed (amd64) and ssmtp definitely
does not depend on libgnutls-openssl and it links against libgnutls-
openssl.so.26

[Bug 910333] [NEW] ssmtp depends on a library that does not exist (libgnutls-openssl.so.26)

2011-12-31 Thread spaetz
Public bug reported:

This is in the current precise, invoking ssmtp leads to libgnutls-
openssl.so.26 not found error.

- ssmtp dynamically links to libgnutls-openssl.so.26

- ssmtp depends: libc6 (= 2.11), libgnutls26 (= 2.9.11-0), debconf |
debconf-2.0

- libgnutls26 does not provide such a library, it is provided by
libgnutls-openssl27 (and needs to be compiled against .so.27)

So please record the correct dependency information for ssmtp and
compile it against the libgnu-openssl27 package.

Thanks

[Bug 910339] [NEW] NFSv4 kerberos broken with 3.0.0-15-generic

2011-12-31 Thread Andreas Schultz
Public bug reported:

kerberos NFS mounts work fine with 3.0.0-14-generic, after upgrading to
3.0.0-15-generic from proposed, users can no longer access NFS mounts.

NFSv4 is normaly mounted through automount, but manual mount yield the
same result. The mount with machine krb keytab works fine, but users can
not access the mount afterwards. A klist show that they do not get a
ticket for accessing the mount.

After downgrading to 3.0.0-14.23-generic, mount became accessible again.

[Bug 910343] [NEW] Home Folder launcher should launch default file manager

2011-12-31 Thread nat
Public bug reported:

The an app called Home Folder appears if one enters home into
Unity's search (Home lens and App lenses, and no home folder is
suggested) choosing this opens the user's home directory in Nautilus
even if the user has set another file manager as their default file
manager.

This seems to occur because the Exec line in: /usr/share/applications
/nautilus-home.desktop (a file owned by the Nautilus package) is set to
nautilus . rather than xdg-open ., and because
/usr/share/applications/nautilus-home.desktop is the app entry with
the name Home Folder

I suspect changing the Exec line to Exec=xdg-open . should give the
expected behavior regardless of the user's choice of default file
manager (I tested and found this to work with my current default:
Marlin)

This seems to be a somewhat known issue as Ubuntu Community Documentation
exists that suggests a work around of removing/editing the
nautilus-home.desktop file from /usr/share/applications/ when changing
default file managers, as per:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DefaultFileManager

Similar changes/issues maybe be in nautilus-browser.desktop,
nautilus-computer.desktop and nautilus.desktop (though I haven't
needed to edit these files personally yet)

tested with Ubuntu 11.10 (Arch:AMD64), Nautilus version: 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu3.1
(oneric-updates)

[Bug 910348] [NEW] WOL does not work after suspend

2011-12-31 Thread Joep Jansen
Public bug reported:

The system wakes up properly after poweroff (S5), but not after suspend to RAM
(S3).
I made sure that WOL is enabled on the eth0 adapter properly, as suggested here:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-networking-3/howto-make-
wake-on-lan-wol-work-712283/

The wake on LAN works perfectly on this computer with Ubuntu 10.10, but
not with 11.04 and 11.10.

WORKAROUND: If I boot an older kernel, 2.6.35-22-generic or
2.6.35-31-generic the problem is gone!

I also tried various other kernels:

* 2.6.36-020636-generic FAIL
* 2.6.38-8 (Natty) FAIL
* 3.0.0-14 (Oneiric) FAIL
* 3.1.6 FAIL
* 3.2-rc4-oneiric FAIL

My conclusion is that the problem appeared in the linux kernel somewhere
between version 2.6.35-31 and 2.6.36.

The problem is hardware dependent: WOL works fine on my ACER laptop with
Ubuntu Natty (2.6.38-8)!

My computer is an ASUS Pundit P1-AH2, with nvidia Crush 51PV chipset and AMD
Athlon XP2.
The ethernet driver is forcedeth.

[Bug 853509] Re: Missing 'mirror' effect

2011-12-31 Thread rpr nospam
The cheese-list (see http://mail.gnome.org/archives/cheese-
list/2011-December/thread.html) provides info on this issue: cheese 3.*
uses effects from the gnome-video-effects package which does not contain
the Horizontal Flip (a simple mirror) and Vertical Flip effects.

But, there are two simple files (attached) a user can put in
~/.local/share/gnome-video-effects to add the effects.

If you copy them to /usr/share/gnome-video-effects/ they will be
available to all users.

[Bug 910282] Re: pdf export distorts text

2011-12-31 Thread ~suv
Reproduced with Inkscape 0.48.2 and 0.48+devel r10811 on OS X 10.7.2 Lion when
converting text to path,
Not reproduced with eithr version when keeping text as text (default setting).

Possibly an issue with that specific font ('Ubuntu-title').

Any special reason to convert the text to path when saving a copy as
PFD? Since version 0.47, Inkscape does _always_ embed and subset the
fonts when saving a copy as PDF/PS/EPS (rather, the cairo library used
for this does it) - the resulting PDF files can be viewed on any system
without requiring the fonts used in the PDF file to be installed on that
system.

[Bug 910282] Re: pdf export distorts text

2011-12-31 Thread ~suv
Setting importance to 'Low' because there are workarounds:
a) rely on cairo's font embedding, or
b) convert the text to path using 'Path Object to Path' prior to saving a
copy as PDF.

Removing the manual kerns of the distorted text (menu 'Text Remove
Manual Kerns') does not affect the issue: the text is still distorted
when converted to path during PDF export.

[Bug 910129] Re: Nautilus uses 100% CPU when other apps update files

2011-12-31 Thread Gioele Barabucci
The same problem happens at login: as soon as I log in into a GNOME
session, nautilus starts using 100% of the CPU and reading furiously
from the disk. Thankfully, in this case, that lasts only for two or
three minutes.

[Bug 910282] Re: pdf export distorts text

2011-12-31 Thread ~suv
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 501772 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/501772

The issue seems to be triggered by the 'Bold' text style applied to the
text object 'freediving' - there is no bold typeface for 'Ubuntu-Title'.
Setting the text back to normal (deactivate the 'bold' style on the
controls bar of the text tool) allows to convert the text to path during
export without additional distortion.

[Bug 841508] Re: totem-plugin-arte version 3.0.0-1 failed to build on armel

2011-12-31 Thread Nicolas Delvaux
The package currently build on Precise (with just a little tweak).
This is because Precise has vala 0.14.1.

It is not likely that vala will be updated on Oneiric, so this FTBFS
will probably not be fixed there, I'm afraid.

[Bug 910358] [NEW] Add printer dialog won't skip driver search

2011-12-31 Thread Martin Sidaway
Public bug reported:

The add printer dialog doesn't provide an option to skip the search for
drivers. This wastes time when you know the printer isn't supported by
Ubuntu.

The only option is Cancel (in 2 separate dialog boxes) which (in both
cases) takes you back to the select port screen. So, in order to get
to the select PPD screen you have to wait for the driver search to
complete.

[Bug 881376] Re: Low disk space warning popping up repeatedly.

2011-12-31 Thread pef
Hi,

I'm also affected by this bug, on a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.10
Oneiric Ocelot.

In my case, I use a bunch of LVM2 logical volumes to store my files.
Each volume holds a collection of related files, so its size
intentionally fits its contents as close as possible : in order words,
most of my logical volumes intentionally have as few free space as
possible.

If I need more space in a collection, I extend the corresponding
logical volume. If I need to store a new collection of related files,
I create a new logical volume.

Those logical volumes are all specified in my /etc/fstab : as you can
see, this warning can quickly get *very* annoying, as it pops up for
every single collection I have.

The following gconf settings don't have any effect :
- /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/plugins/housekeeping/active = setting to 0
doesn't prevent the dialog to appear
- /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/plugins/housekeeping/free_size_gb_no_notify =
the granularity is too large (it is an integer, not a float)
- /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/plugins/housekeeping/ignore_paths = correctly
filled, but no effect : in my case, this setting would be the most useful,
since I still want to be informed for normal file systems.

[Bug 910307] Re: After logging in, pc hangs

2011-12-31 Thread Phil. V
Forgive me, you obviously can't run that command since you can't get
into a desktop environment. I'll mark this as confirmed since it isn't
possible to run apport in this circumstance.

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete = Confirmed

** Summary changed:

- After logging in, pc hangs
+ System hangs after login following upgrade to 11.10

[Bug 910173] Re: kernel panic random via c7-d (pc2500e)

Re-targeting to plain old linux, so the kernel team's bots and such can
help triage this.

[Bug 868970] Re: User should be able to disable Akonaditray when akonadi/nepomuk is not used

2011-12-31 Thread ralphb
@Andrey: Maybe I don't understand your instructions, but it does NOT
work for me. This is the state after killing Akonaditray manually:

tiger ~ grep Hidden .config/autostart/Akonaditray.desktop
Hidden=true
tiger ~ ps aux | egrep 'nepo|ako'
ralph 8202 0.0 0.0 11996 880 pts/5S+ 14:01 0:00 egrep nepo|ako

Yet, logging out and logging back in starts Akonaditray. (And no, I
don't want to purge my session, since I put quite some work into it.)

[Bug 910173] Missing required logs.

If, due to the nature of the issue you have encountered, you are unable
to run this command, please add a comment stating that fact and change
the bug status to 'Confirmed'.

[Bug 906171] Re: Swedish language package for Ubuntu 10.04 has no dependencies

2011-12-31 Thread Christian Johansson
I think it would be good if the problem can be prioritized because I've
seen a number of people writing about the problem on Swedish Ubuntu
forums and the problem doesn't give a very good impression of the Ubuntu
operating system. People who are doing new installations of Ubuntu 10.04
LTS get much text in English instead of Swedish since the packets can't
be installed. Even for people who already have 10.04 LTS installed since
earlier (like myself), and therefore already have older versions of the
Swedish language packs installed, it doesn't give a very good impression
that Update Manager and Synaptic show that there are updates of the
packets available but that they can't be installed due to missing
dependencies.
