[Bug 994938] Re: NM indicator fails to show extant wireless connection; opening gnome-control-center fixes it

2012-07-10 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Thomas, there is no need to set bugs to New if they were automatically
confirmed; confirmation can mean that someone else says they are
affected via the Does this bug affect you? link at the top.

keepitsimpleengr, it looks to me like wpasupplicant is having issues.
Can you reproduce the bug regularly? If so, I'd like to see
wpasupplicant debug logs.

To do this, edit the file /usr/share/dbus-1/system-
services/fi.w1.wpa_supplicant1.service as root and modify the following
line:

Exec=/sbin/wpa_supplicant -B -P /run/sendsigs.omit.d/wpasupplicant.pid
-u -s -O /var/run/wpa_supplicant

As:

Exec=/sbin/wpa_supplicant -d -B -P
/run/sendsigs.omit.d/wpasupplicant.pid -u -s -O /var/run/wpa_supplicant

(add -d, to enable debugging)

Reboot; then wait for the problem to be reproduced. This will log all
the details from wpasupplicant to /var/log/syslog; so once you can
reproduce the issue, make a copy of the /var/log/syslog file and attach
it to this bug report.

Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1022879] Re: Intel GPU hang caught

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following

[Bug 1021813] Re: Thunderbird places incorrect newlines when composing a reply using reply above quote

2012-07-10 Thread D. Mark Simms
I got around this by creating a user.js file (see
https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Thunderbird/Thunderbird_Configuration_Files#user.js)
and putting in the following text:

// Modify quote header //
user_pref(mailnews.reply_header_ondate, \nOn %s);

I tried using the Config Editor to change the
mailnews.reply_header_ondate but it wouldn't take the \n as a newline.

[Bug 886991] Re: Wi-Fi Does not resume after laptop sleep -- Intel PRO/Wireless iwlagn

2012-07-10 Thread Stephen Rasku
I haven't seen this in awhile. I think I may just manually enabling
wireless. It's annoying but it works.

I don't think a backport is necessary. There is less than a year left
before the LTS period for 10.4 expires, a new LTS is already available,
and there is a workaround.

[Bug 1020081] Re: No WiFi in Quantal Alpha 2 on Ideapad s205 -- Ralink RT3090 rt2800pci

2012-07-10 Thread Hansen
@ Thomas Hood.
There are no doubt that this is a new problem that has appeared in Quantal. (on
top of others)

In Precise and Oneiric there are a conflict with acer_wmi (875659, still
open), and the built in open source driver in Ubuntu have a network speed that
is below 70Kb/sec. (896582, still open)
Once, (after my last post and only once! - I tried) booting live session from
an USB stick made with Unetbootin, there where Wifi enabled that could
establish connection. I started three heavy downloads at once to get an
impression of network speed( to check bug 896582). The network speed was not,
as in Precise and Oneiric below 70Kb/sec. but very unstable going and up and
down between blocked and 40Mb/sec.

[Bug 1022561] Re: Quantal : kexec kernel not triggered when kernel panics

2012-07-10 Thread Joseph Salisbury
We can perform a kernel bisect to identify the exact commit that
introduced this regression. First we need to identify the kernel
version that introduced this bug.

Can you test the following kernels and report back which one's have the
bug:

v3.4 final: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.4-quantal/
v3.5-rc1: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.5-rc1-quantal/

[Bug 996764] Re: Donations

2012-07-10 Thread Stéphane Guillou
I'm impressed this hasn't been implemented yet.

The Software Centre should definitely give this option to the user.

An easy way to do it would be to make it possible, in the process of
adding a software in USC, to add a link to a donation page. If this
option is filled, then a button appears in the description of the app,
and clicking on it just opens a browser displaying the donation page of
the project/foundation/organisation/developer.

[Bug 1021081] Re: NFS lockup (readonly udp nfsv4 gigabit)

2012-07-10 Thread Joseph Salisbury
This issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the latest
upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream bug
report at bugzilla.kernel.org [1]? That will allow the upstream
Developers to examine the issue, and may provide a quicker resolution to
the bug.

If you are comfortable with opening a bug upstream, It would be great if
you can report back the upstream bug number in this bug report. That
will allow us to link this bug to the upstream report.

[Bug 1005839] Re: NM keeps asking for WLAN auth when dial-up networking connection is established

2012-07-10 Thread Steve White
Hi Thomas,

Somehow we're not seeing eye-to-eye. Let me try it another way.

Inappropriate prompts are the problem. Prompts interfere with my work.

The current NM logic doesn't seem to handle well the common scenario I
described, and will pester me, and keep pestering me (unless I disable
Wi-Fi, as you suggested.)

It is not good for NM to interfere with my work, when I already have a
functioning network connection. It is not reasonable for NM to prompt
to disconnect a functioning connection, nor is it reasonable for NM to
prompt the user to disable Wi-Fi. That is really not called for.

Usually, if I have specified a DUN connection over a Wi-Fi connection,
there was a good reason for it. If I choose not to switch from the
established DUN connection to a Wi-Fi connection, NM should just accept
my decision, but not *disable* anything.

Maybe the term notification is the source of misunderstanding: I mean
the modern, relatively unintrusive, non-interactive notifications, as
opposed to an alert dialog or a prompt or the like. Again: If a
functioning connection is in place, NM might *notify* me of the
existence of a wireless signal, but not otherwise interfere with my
work.

Thanks!

[Bug 1021946] Re: lo-menubar 0.1.1 from updates repositories makes plasma-desktop to crash

2012-07-10 Thread avlas
I checked in a third computer and the bug is also there.

First approximation of what distinguishes the three computers:

- the two that suffer the bug are 64-bit sytems compared to the one that
doesn't (32-bit)

- only the 32-bit was a fresh install, the other two (64-bit) were
upgraded to precise from oneiric (one of them); and from natty, to
oneiric, to precise (the other one)

it would be good to test fresh 64-bit installs and upgraded 32-bit, to
see what's going on...

[Bug 987933] Re: 10de:0407 Ubuntu 12.04 shutdown hangs with proprietary nVidia driver

2012-07-10 Thread Marcelo Ruiz
** Description changed:

Basically, if I shutdown soon after login on, my system shuts down and powers
off ok but it I use the system for any prolonged time and try to shutdown, it
hangs at the very last minuites. Based on the advice from Bug #985471, I
modified /etc/default/grub,
  changing
  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash
  to
  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=reboot=pci quiet splash

Having done this, I am able to reboot my system however long I have been
using it. So my current shutdown routine is, first reboot and wait for the
login screen, then from there shutdown.
  Thanks for your help.

[Bug 1023002] Re: [Lenovo X121e] Brightness key events are multiplied

2012-07-10 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.5kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the
linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-
upstream-testing' tag(Only that one tag, please leave the other tags).
This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag
located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-
upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1020075] Re: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in unity::ui::EdgeBarrierController::Impl::OnPointerBarrierEvent()

2012-07-10 Thread AlexHarrowell
I'm experiencing this bug immediately after login on Ubuntu Quantal
12.10 for x86-64, on a ThinkPad X200S with 8GB of RAM and an Intel
graphics card.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Update packages in the branch to current status
2) Reboot
3) A normal login screen is presented
4) Log in with your password

Symptoms:

Graphical controls don't start. Launcher and toolbar absent. Window
management elements absent. Desktop icons are present.

Underlying system is functional from the CLI. Mozilla Firefox is
available if you launch it via the bug reporting tool. Document Viewer
(evince) is functional, but missing the window bar. OpenOffice is
functional.

Stacktrace, segfault analysis etc. is identical with this bug except
that the memory location is given as 0x0.

Problems began with a similar failure, which produced a crash report
relating to nautilus and saying that nautilus, libcups2, libgail-3-0,
libgtk-3-0, libgtk-3-common needed updating. Updating relieved the
nautilus crash and got rid of a nautilus trap int3 error from syslog,
but replaced it with the compiz crash.

Compiz debug output shows that various files are not found at first
attempt but are eventually traced.

[Bug 1000253] Re: Brother HL-1440 printing extra page with PJL codes

2012-07-10 Thread Gary Brainin
Bug appeared in an unusual situation, as follows:

I was printing two jobs, and the printer ran out of paper during the
first job. After adding paper and pressing the button to continue, the
first job finished without incident. However, the first page of the
second job (which was already queued when the paper ran out) had the PJL
codes on it.

Reprinting the second job worked normally, even without making any
changes.

[Bug 992720] Re: [Lenovo E420s] Hitting brightness keys causes machine to lock up

2012-07-10 Thread Greg Vallande
@Joseph,

Hi! i've retested this with: v3.1 (fails) and also v3.2-rc1 (WORKS!)
- however, any later kernel release for precise is broken and still
causes the brightness key lockup. I also tested the v3.4-rc6-precise and
that produces the same problem. Please advise. Thanks!

[Bug 879173] Re: Wi-Fi connectivity interrupted by CPU high load; once load is reduced NM reconnects -- ath5k

2012-07-10 Thread Thomas Hood
Well, if wpasupplicant were to inherit the low niceness from the
process, NM, which starts it then it might have had an interesting
effect.

But I just tried both the nice Upstart stanza and the nice command
in the exec Upstart stanza and was unable to change the niceness level
of NM as revealed by ps -eo nice, cmd, so it doesn't seem to be easy to
play around with niceness of these processes to see if that has any
effect (which would be interesting to know --- not a solution to the
problem).

[Bug 1005839] Re: NM keeps asking for WLAN auth when dial-up networking connection is established

2012-07-10 Thread Thomas Hood
Thanks for clarifying your view of the problem.

The way NM works now is *somewhat* defensible because Wi-Fi is (usually)
faster than dialup. But I do agree with you that NM shouldn't interrupt
the user if there is already a functioning connection.

[Bug 1018896] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in gtk_ui_manager_new_merge_id()

2012-07-10 Thread Doug McMahon
I would have to disagree with the reporter in upstream bug that the
issue stops when using nautilus 3.5.1 as supplied by Ubuntu. (At least
with the available hardware here there is no change at all, nor expected
any.

Also did rebuild gtk without_atk_bridge which also had no effect though that
may have been a semi-worthless endeavor
Also, as a side note, a straight up build of the current nautilus master also
fails in exact same manner

[Bug 726053] Re: Resuming from suspend should trigger a time update

2012-07-10 Thread Jan Rathmann
I am experiencing this bug nearly every time my PC wakes up from
Suspend-to-RAM, so I wouldn't consider it fixed. I have used Unity from
Natty to Precise (my current installation) and the bug was always
present during the last 15 months, regardless if I was running Natty,
Oneiric or Precise.

Kind regards,
Jan

[Bug 1023012] [NEW] firefox does not save an attachments starting with dot

2012-07-10 Thread Jan Groenewald
Public bug reported:

When I download save a file and I change the name to start with a dot,
it 0) prompts me to replace the existing dot file, if it exists, 1) removes the
existing dot file, and 2) silently removes the dot and saves it with the name.

Example, someone mailed me a .bash_completion to replace an existing one,
and it removed the existing but saved /home/me/bash_completion.

I consider it a bug to not save dot-files if I ask for it, or to not give a
proper
error message if it refuses. If upstream disagrees, it is at least a bug to
remove the existing dot-file if it refuses to save over it.

The logs in the nova-api.log indicate that he's getting permission
denied for an AMI he created. We recently migrated glance from sqlite3
to mysql, and this may be caused by a data migration error or a more
subtle keystone/glance uuid problem.

[Bug 1022879] Re: Intel GPU hang caught

2012-07-10 Thread Paul McGarry
I think there have been similar problems on this machine for some time
(unfortunately I haven't had the time to look into it properly before
now).

I think the last good kernel I have used is 3.2.0-16, I have kept that
around and boot using it when I need to be sure of uptime and it seems
to work fine. IIRC this was the last kernel before RC6 was enabled.
Everything since then has hung occasionally, either completely (it
seems) or the UI has gone a little bonkers..

I have installed 3.5.0-030500rc6 kernel from the link you provided and
will report back.

[Bug 1023020] [NEW] irqbalance shouldn't be installed in Ubuntu Desktop

2012-07-10 Thread Daniel J Blueman
Public bug reported:

irqbalance clocks up time, causes additional context switches and
wakeups in an effort to optimise performance for high interrupt rate
network conditions.

Due to many network drivers supporting NAPI and offering eg TCP offload
(coalescing small packets), it's default use in ubuntu-server would even
be unclear.

For mobile and desktop users, it is suboptimal and we see the
documentation target it at a specific server environment [1].

Therefore, we should remove the 'recommends' ubuntu-standard has for it
[2].

[Bug 976534] Re: Rhythmbox cummulates memory in precise - probably memory leak

2012-07-10 Thread Benjamin Herbert
I am affected with 11.10.

I just discovered that my Rhythmbox used 1.8 GB of memory.

I then killed it and started it again. I notice that skipping to or
playing a new song eats up memory. If I skip to a next song, about 25 MB
of memory are consumed and not properly released anymore. So if I click
on --| fast for four times in a row, around 100 MB are consumed without
one of the skipped songs is actually played. I will take a look with
another system, which has 12.04 installed.

I digged a little further in it and it seems that

[Bug 1023025] [NEW] search fail with get_ctrls : controls require LDAPv3

2012-07-10 Thread PierreF
Public bug reported:

On precise, the slapd daemon return error code 2 - controls require
LDAPv3 to client search. I don't see any reason why this would occure,
because if you run the same command few seconds later, it (may) work.

For example, using nss_ldap, when running in a loop id pierref, you
may sometime have fewer group that you would normally have. And few
seconds later, everything go back to normal.

We also have this issue with some other tools, like Confluence
(Atlassian's wiki) and also a internal tools developped in Python.

On client side (confluence), we have
javax.naming.CommunicationException: [LDAP: error code 2 - controls
require LDAPv3];

On server side, we found the same controls require LDAPv3 returned
with get_ctrl function. I attached log extract of slapd server at
loglevel any. On log I keep one successfull search done by confluence
and one failed search.

Note: on server log - if I understand log correctly - the client bind
with version 3 of protocol... while error complain about not behind
version 3...

Version:

* server : Ubuntu precise 3.2.0-26-generic x86_64, slapd 2.4.28-1.1ubuntu4
* client 1 : Ubuntu lucid 2.6.32-41-server x86_64, libnss-ldap 264-2ubuntu2,
ldap-utils 2.4.21-0ubuntu5.7
* client 2 : Ubuntu precise 3.2.0-26-virtual x86_64, libnss-ldap
264-2.2ubuntu2, ldap-utils 2.4.28-1.1ubuntu4

Their is two LDAP server (replication), I attached configuration of
both.

I also attached a test_nss.sh which show this bug on client side.
