[Bug 1181352] Re: .

2013-05-17 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. I noticed that you are installing an older version of
Ubuntu, unless you have some specific requirements to run an older
release I recommend trying to install the latest LTS version of Ubuntu.
We released version 12.04, in April of 2012, and it is a Long Term
Support release. You can find different ways to obtain it at
http://download.ubuntu.com. In the event that you really want to run
the older version of Ubuntu please set this bug's status back to New.
Thanks!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1181388] [NEW] no tty login prompts, ctrl-alt-f* fails

2013-05-17 Thread Gerben
Public bug reported:

Whent installing 64 bit server 13.04 I noticed I could not log on to the
server directly. Booting the system ends in the server displaying boot
messages, but no login: prompt. None of the other tty screens seem
available.

The system seems to fail any of the tty[1-6] screens and/or does not
open a login service on them.

shown in 13.04 right after install and after updates.

I could access the system since I've installed openssh server.

[Bug 1175944] Re: getstream quits with SIGABRT when ANY of the tuners loses signal

2013-05-17 Thread MMlosh
correction:
If the multiplex from the *affected (signal loss)* tuner was streamed
somewhere.

Well, the watchdog is really necessary.
The event loop gets stuck eventually when one of the tuners has poor signal
(and perhaps when I attempt to watch it?).
So far it seems that increasing the watchdog timeout from 1s to 2s reduces the
abort rate dramatically.
That is, of course, no actual solution and could prevent debugging attempts.

[Bug 1178131] Re: 14e4:16bc SD card slot not working on Acer Aspire One 756

2013-05-17 Thread StefanF
I found the kernel version that introduced the problem:

- linux-image-3.0.0-32-generic-pae_3.0.0-32.51_i386.deb
- linux-image-3.0.0-32-generic-pae_3.0.0-32.50_i386.deb
- linux-image-3.0.0-20-generic_3.0.0-20.34_i386.deb
- linux-image-3.0.0-16-generic_3.0.0-16.29_i386.deb
+ linux-image-3.0.0-16-generic_3.0.0-16.28_i386.deb
+ linux-image-3.0.0-16-generic-pae_3.0.0-16.28_i386.deb
+ linux-image-3.0.0-16-generic_3.0.0-16.27_i386.deb
+ linux-image-3.0.0-15-generic_3.0.0-15.26_i386.deb
+ linux-image-3.0.0-15-generic_3.0.0-15.24_i386.deb
+ linux-image-3.0.0-14-generic_3.0.0-14.23_i386.deb
+ linux-image-3.0.0-12-generic_3.0.0-12.20_i386.deb

- does not work, + does work fine.

So the problem was introduced by kernel 3.0.0-16.29. I verified this
three times - got always the same results as written in my previous
post.

Can I do something more to support debugging?

[Bug 1173566] Re: ZTE HSDPA Modem MF627 MF628 not recognized by network-manager in Ubuntu 13.04

2013-05-17 Thread LJ
based on bug #979697 and some others I tried the following and finally it
worked:
1. I added the modules (not sure if this is really necessary)
usbserial
option
in /etc/modules
2.picked up the matching config file (e.g. "19d2:2000" - this is the device ID)
from /usr/share/usb_modeswitch/configPack.tar.gz and added the line
"ReleaseDelay=3000". Then saved the file at /etc/usb_modeswitch.d
3. finally I created a file named "usb-storage.conf" in /etc/modprobe.d" and
copied in these lines:
# Increase the default delay to avoid conflict with usb_modeswitch

options usb-storage delay_use=3

4. Connected the usb-modem, waited about 10-15 seconds until the
internal SD-card was mounted and the the modem recognized by the modem-
manager

[Bug 1181367] [NEW] Alt+Tab switches between incorrect windows after some time of activity

2013-05-17 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:

Due to an overflow, after some time of activity it's impossible to
alt+tab between two windows of the same application.

1) Keep two windows of an app (say terminal) opened for some time, and another
   window of a different app
2) Focus one window terminal keeping the other terminal window below it
3) Press Alt+Tab

Expected behavior
4) The other terminal window is focused

Actual behavior:
4) Other opened application is selected instead.

[Bug 1181369] [NEW] display: Cropping box does not draw properly with other windows over it

2013-05-17 Thread MMlosh
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Raring 64bit, up to date.
Imagemagick 8:6.7.7.10-5ubuntu2

I haven't seen any python/apport updates, so I assume it's still broken
(bug 1150335)

Steps to reproduce:
Open a picture with "display"
Place another window over the canvas (even IM's own menu would do)
- You might need to change the focus/raise model of your window manager to
achieve that for other windows
Select "Transform->Crop" from IM's menu
Try to select an area around the obstructing window.

Observed: see the attachment

Expected: Whole rectangle being painted.

I don't think it's GPU-specific, it does happen with DRI disabled, but to be
sure, my GPU is GM45, managed by i915.

** Affects: imagemagick (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1174275] Re: Random system freeze in 13.04

2013-05-17 Thread MorrisseyJ
Recent update to 3.8.0-21-generic doesn't seem to have fixed things.
Just had a freeze.

I would really appreciate if anyone could help me through this. Random
system freezes are crippling me.

Thanks.

[Bug 1176035] Re: Ubuntu 13.04, the mouse settings will not save

Same with my installation. It worked until a few days ago - I do not
remember the exact last update but the effect is exactly as described. I
use a high resolution mouse and the settings render it nearly useless.

[Bug 1180751] Re: Lenovo T420s boot problem

2013-05-17 Thread inode77
Tested with 3.9.0 repo kernel. Lockup still occurs on 9 of 10 boot
attempts.

Additionaly the system locks up when lcd screen brightness is modified.
This happens in 3.8 and 3.9 kernels unless "nox2apic" grub boot option
is provided.

[Bug 1010625] Re: named logs are not being reported in logwatch

2013-05-17 Thread Craig
Every service that specifies 'LogFile = messages' in its LogWatch .conf
file (there are 40 of them) is now dead in LogWatch. I would propose
one of the following fixes:

1) Remove the 'LogFile = messages' line completely from all of the
aforementioned .conf files. The result will be that the default
location(s) will be searched/parsed for messages. The current default
is 'All' This is simple and straightforward. Or...

2) Change the 'LogFile = messages' line to 'LogFile = syslog' in all of
the aforementioned .conf files.

[Bug 1173623] Re: Launcher - Two finger scrolling doesn't permit navigating through icons anymore

2013-05-17 Thread Christopher Townsend
After looking through the Nux code, there is no current way to know what
type of device is sending the scroll event. It would require a huge re-
work of Nux to do this. That said, the proposed desired solution is not
possible.

I will ask John Lea of design if he has any other solution on how best
this should be handled.

2) Then as per this link (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed) to
enable only partial update from the proposed channel create a
/etc/apt/preferences file with the given parameters replacing precise with
raring.
3) run sudo apt-get update
4) run sudo apt-get install duplicity/raring-proposed.
5) report back your test results.

@Brian
Testing underway. Could install no probs. and duplicity is running fine. Yet to
complete so that I can confirm it works. But until now the usual points where
the error popped up, it's been smooth. Will reply once the current backup gets
over.

This bug has been in Thunderbird for some time - it appears in all
Ubuntu releases from at least 10.04. I have copied the .thunderbird
into each new release so have not seen the bug until now. I think it
should be possible to demonstrate it by using a false username etc.
Note that the password always has to contain a digit and an uppercase
letter. My password is six characters long.

[Bug 1015183]

2013-05-17 Thread John Faulkner
(In reply to comment #88)

Hello.

I would like to provide testing for this bug if possible but I'm not
exactly clued up on compiling xorg-server from scratch. I figure it
could be useful to have a none-standard (ie not a laptop or tablet
device) low-end hardware test case but if it's unlikely to be useful
then please let me know.

One thing I've noticed is that once this bug has triggered (rendering
most GTK applications and the unity dash unusable), Nautilus continues
to function normally with the touch screen. Can anyone else confirm this
on a standard Ubuntu 13.04 installation?

Anyway, I can see the branch you're talking about and can clone the git
repository no problem.

> Copy the debian directory from xserver 1.14, and comment out each
patch that fails to apply in debian/patches/series

I'm not certain which directory / patches you're referring to here,
could you point me in the right direction?

I can duplicate this bug every time with a custom application which uses
a GtkToolPalette. It appears to trigger every time I tap a category
which produces a smooth roll-out animation - the hardware is pretty low
end so I suppose this additional load triggers a race condition? I can
trigger the bug in other normal uses but this one is guaranteed every
time.

[Bug 1015183]

2013-05-17 Thread pauls
I still need help compiling the test branch of xserver on ubuntu 13.04.
If I try to compile it, detailed here
http://www.x.org/wiki/CompileXserverManually it fails with complaints of
wrong versions of x11proto. But, I have verified that the correct
packages are actually installed on my system. So, I tried using jhbuild
which builds everything in your home directory, details here
http://www.x.org/wiki/JhBuildInstructions But, when I launch the jhbuild
version, it crashes because it doesn't include my synaptics touchpad or
cando touch screen. It won't run without input devices. So, can you
provide some insight as to how I can build and test this xserver? Since
some of you are using ubuntu, perhaps more specific instructions would
work for me.

TIA

[Bug 1181355] Re: R300 (RS480): Intermittent flickering corruption top half of display (VGA, 1080p)

2013-05-17 Thread floid
After catching it in the act with my phone camera, the glitch seems
prone to reusing more recognizable content today - this is my desktop
background (although there's a pile of icon-litter on top of it in
normal circumstances) offset and possibly tinted a bit.

Also seeing more non-vertically-aligned bursts of horizontal dark lines
and cruft while typing this. In fact, typing is a surprisingly good way
to trigger it compared to leaving the screen idle...

[Bug 1181358] [NEW] Online Accounts continually spams my desktop browser

2013-05-17 Thread Barry Warsaw
Public bug reported:

When, for whatever reason, Online Accounts loses access to Facebook, my
gear icon turns red and I need to re-grant access to Facebook. When I
bring up the Online Accounts window, a new tab in my desktop browser
pops up prompting me to log into Facebook. Worse, in the background,
ever so often, a new tab will be created, again prompting me to log into
Facebook and focus will be shifted from whatever I'm currently working
on to this new tab.

This is a regression from Raring. There, when I need to re-grant access
to FB or whatever, no focus stealing tab is ever created in my desktop
browser window. Instead, a separate window will be created inside the
Online Accounts window, but even then, only when I explicitly click on
the menu item.

Focus stealing is highly disrupted to my work.

Apparently the unread status is initiated on every pageload on reddit.com
I don't know if it matters, but I'm using Firefox. I haven't tested this with

hello Matthieu - thanks for quick reply !

:-)

well - it comes to my mind - the reason is simpler -

cairo-dock was installed before (old version of ubuntu ) and I simply
installed then the "weekly-cairo-dock" to that ! - have forgotten to
throw out
old-cairo-dock ???!!!

how do I solve this problem now ??? have to throw out both again, and to
re-install
weekly-cairo-dock again ???

sorry, for mess - but I was chaotic yesterday, because of wild frickle
fight the whole day until into the night,
with nvidia-drivers GRR.

regards.
Val.

[Bug 1181355] [NEW] R300 (RS480): Intermittent flickering corruption top half of display (VGA, 1080p)

2013-05-17 Thread floid
Public bug reported:

Any suggestions where to start welcome:

Compaq SR1611NX desktop, "Radeon Xpress 200" RS480 (R300) graphics. HP
LV2311 LCD connected via VGA because that's the only output on this
hardware.

The VGA output used to be a little "less than perfectly stable" with
older X.org (versions shipped from Ubuntu 9.x to 10.x). Unknown
improvements since then have made the overall display much more stable -
no more shifty horizontal flicker.

In tradeoff, now the top half of the display occasionally flashes
distractingly for fractions of a second (single frames?) with "memory
cruft" as you might expect to see during boot or graphics init -
generally offset large "checkerboard"-esque blocks of black and color
with no obvious relation to what's on the display. This would seem to
suggest it's an actual GPU/driver issue rather than a glitch on the
VGA/monitor end of things.

No idea how to trigger or reproduce other than that it will generally
occur at least once within each 15 minutes or so of use. Expanding and
retracting the dash (very slowly due to the current regression - takes
about 5+ seconds to fade in and dismiss) will sometimes set it off,
however.

Recommendation for screen-recording software to see if it turns up "in
software" short of pointing an actual camera at the screen?

[Bug 1181312] Re: Race to start gnome-settings-daemon in upstart user session

2013-05-17 Thread Stéphane Graber

Hello and thank you for this bug report,

Is it maybe possible to share a screenshot with us?
Do you also have this bug if you use the dock without the OpenGL backend?

2013-05-17 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.10 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1181341] [NEW] Cannot set up e-mail account with provider with no SMTP

2013-05-17 Thread Barry Drake
Public bug reported:

The e-mail account is at mail.crosswire.org. This account no longer has
an associated SMTP sending service. I use my googlemail account with an
alias to send e-mails. I can get the account recognised but when the
'Danger' notice appears, there is no checkbox, and the 'Done' button is
not accessible. I will attach screenshots showing the problem. I only
discovered this before reporting the #1180302 and #1180302 bugs as I had
tried a completely clean setup in case the problem was my own.

[Bug 1181312] Re: Race to start gnome-settings-daemon in upstart user session

Ah, in that case this may just be a bug with my setup.

and I have a copy of gnome-settings-daemon.desktop in there. Thanks for
the information. I'll delete it and continue testing, but this bug is
probably invalid.

[Bug 1171838] Re: Last nights isc-dhcp-server update fails to start

2013-05-17 Thread Robert E Blair
I have had this issue off and on for a couple of weeks. After much tearing of
hair and gnashing of teeth I believe I fixed it. In the upstart configuration
for isc-dhcp-server there is no stanza of the form:
/lib/init/apparmor-profile-load usr.sbin.dhcpd
I don't know about systems running NM but if you have a dhcp server running
likely you don't want NM taking your connections up and down (I remob\ved NM
from this system and statically configure the network) but the apparmor profile
likely needs to be there in cases where the network is statically configured.
The apparmor configuration likely is loaded too late on these systems and this
causes much grief.

Nothing, just like nothing prevents you from dd'ing /dev/zero all over
your drive. Don't do that. If you are trying to get a correct
grub.cfg, then you have to chroot since grub-mkconfig generates a
config to boot the system it finds in the current root.

Whether it is useful or not, it isn't related to the subject of this
bug, which is booting windows.

[Bug 1169376] Re: XPS13 backlight stopped working after update 3.8.0-18.28

2013-05-17 Thread Kent Baxley
I wouldn't worry too much about the patches disappearing. As long as
they don't cause any regressions while the proposed kernel is being
tested, then you should see the updated kernel and backlight fixes go
out very soon. Some more info on the stable release cadence can be
found here:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/StableReleaseCadence

The backlight issues for this laptop have been rather tricky to address,
and the 3.8 kernels for raring are the first ones to natively carry any
of the work from upstream in them (hence no need for a special ppa). As
you can see, it's taken some work to get it right, but, 13.04 and higher
should eventually contain a permanent fix.

[Bug 1176221] Re: Nuvola doesn't load Google Music service, stops at "Loading Music Library..."

2013-05-17 Thread Mike L
I am more than willing to offer a small bounty of $10 to you in donation
money if this bug is fixed. I am not one to bribe, but Play Music has
been completely redesigned and there are bound to be even more than this
in terms of bugs with Play Music. I have donated before and promise to
donate again if this is fixed in a reasonably timely manner. I'm not
going to be ridiculous in my time span, but if possible I'd like to see
this fixed within a few days or weeks if possible. If it takes months,
I'd just like a brief explanation. I know this sounds like a bribe (and
it is), but think of it as a promised donation as well. I rely heavily
on Play Music, and want Nuvola modernized to accommodate that for me and
other users. Thanks. Now, with regards to the other bugs, good luck!
With the most massive update in a year or two, you'll need it.
