[Bug 1729077] Re: wrong color of horizontally centered area of scan with CanoScan Lide 200

2017-12-26 Thread SchnippenSchnappen
I have a CanoScan LiDE 100 but otherwise the exact same setup. I can
fully confirm that this bug is caused by the new ibsane1
1.0.27-1~experimental packages and "fixed" by force replacing all sane
packages with the 1.0.25 packages from Ubuntu 17.04.

Somebody also posted this on askubuntu:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/973526/thick-black-vertical-line-with-
canon-lide-100-scanner-in-ubuntu-17-10

So there are multiple users affected indeed.

What I wasn't able to confirm yet is if the current stable release of
sane-backends 1.0.27 might fix this or not. You can get it here:
https://launchpad.net/~rolfbensch/+archive/ubuntu/sane-
release?field.series_filter=

I also found an interesting correlation with this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sane-backends/+bug/1712997
This seems to happen also on the old drivers for this user but the visual
artifacts are very similar.

[Bug 1734147] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 corrupting BIOS - many LENOVO laptops models

2017-12-26 Thread Dan Bright
I have the same issue on my Lenovo Z50-70. Only just noticed, as have
been running 17.10 since late beta and haven't needed to touch UEFI.

I've been running all manner of Linux distros on my systems for a decade
and this is the first time anything has actually corrupted the hardware
firmware (BIOS/UEFI).

More fool me for installing a non LTS I suppose. I simply cannot afford
to replace this machine at the moment, and from current reports it
appears that come the next time I need to reinstall for any reason my
laptop is, to all intents and purposes, bricked. Not amused. At all.

[Bug 1740159] Re: Can't sync iPod (touch 2G): device recognized by file manager but not by media players / managers

2017-12-26 Thread indigocat
** Description changed:

Can't sync iPod (touch 2G): when mounting in file manager, the access
address afc://[device uuid] appends a ":3" at the end, so it turns to
afc://[uuid]:3, which the file manager shows as an empty location.

- Removing the ":3" at the end and entering afc://[device uuid] manualy
- shows the iPod's root filesystem, which could in theory be managed by
- gtkpod, Rhythmbox or Banshee.
+ There are 2 devices / mount points after connecting the iPod and opening a
file manager:
+ -"iPod"; when clicking "properties", the protocol used for it is gphoto2://
(?)
+ -"iPod Documentation"; this mount point is opened via afc://[device uuid],
and should show the iPod's root file system.
+ Removing the ":3" at the end and entering afc://[device uuid] manually shows
the iPod's root filesystem, which could in theory be managed by gtkpod,
Rhythmbox or Banshee.

However, I can't seem to find a way to disable the arbitrary ":3" added
automatically by the mounter.
This behaviour began after updating the library (it has worked fine before,
in the same OS in 2 different machines, being able to transfer music files).

I've googled for a week looking for a similar problem reported, and none was
found so far, hence the bug report.
- Please let me know what other culprit there may be, to begin pinpointing the
cause somewhere else, if necessary. (gvfs, perhaps?)

** Description changed:

Can't sync iPod (touch 2G): when mounting in file manager, the access
address afc://[device uuid] appends a ":3" at the end, so it turns to
afc://[uuid]:3, which the file manager shows as an empty location.

Removing the ":3" at the end and entering afc://[device uuid] manualy
shows the iPod's root filesystem, which could in theory be managed by
  gtkpod, Rhythmbox or Banshee.

The workaround is to manually update to the linux-firmware package in
bionic (1.170)

Dell have written an article about it:

http://www.dell.com/support/article/bg/en/bgbsdt1/sln306440/killer-n1535
-wireless-firmware-manual-update-guide-for-ubuntu-systems?lang=en

I have been running the package and so far so good.

[Bug 1720890] Re: vulkan-smoketest segfaults steam vulkan games segfault

2017-12-26 Thread Florian W.
Using artful, I updated these packages (everything that used to have version
"17.2.2-0ubuntu1" on my system) to version "17.2.4-0ubuntu1~17.10.1" from
-proposed:
libegl1-mesa:amd64 libgbm1:amd64 libgl1-mesa-dev:amd64 libgl1-mesa-dri:amd64
libgl1-mesa-dri:i386 libgl1-mesa-glx:amd64 libgl1-mesa-glx:i386
libglapi-mesa:amd64 libglapi-mesa:i386 libgles2-mesa:amd64
libwayland-egl1-mesa:amd64 libxatracker2:amd64 mesa-common-dev:amd64
mesa-vdpau-drivers:amd64 mesa-vulkan-drivers:amd64

After a reboot, I can confirm Lawrence's observation that vulkan-
smoketest segfaulted on the old version, but seems to work fine using
the version from -proposed.

Since Lawrence forgot to remove the verification-needed-artful tag, I'm
going to remove it now.

The Lubuntu Software Center hasn't been in active development for a few
years, and we now ship GNOME Software by default, so the only bugs
Lubuntu will fix from now on are critical bugs that affect the user
drastically.

Marking as Won't Fix, sorry.

[Bug 1740150] [NEW] Allow GTK theming for Ubuntu Budgie

2017-12-26 Thread fossfreedom
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Budgie uses gnome-screensaver for its lock-screen.

By default, gnome-screensaver does not provide a GTK+3 based style class
- thus the lock screen is not themed by modern GTK+3 themes.

UB already has a patch (33_budgie_support.patch) that fixes a couple of
issues.

I have updated this patch to allow GTK+3 theming via the style class
"lock-dialog". This allows gnome-screensaver to the themed in the same
way as the gnome-screensaver fork mate-screensaver which uses the same
named style-class.

This has been tested using the GTK+3 theme adapta which has the MATE
lock-screen style class "lock-dialog" .

I will be separately updating arc-theme (the theme used by Ubuntu
Budgie) to provide theming for both mate-screensaver and gnome-
screensaver (for Ubuntu Budgie).

Note - if its considered useful, I'm happy to rework this to move the
style-class application to a separate patch to allow all desktops that
use gnome-screensaver to be equally themed. However I've only tested
this patch on Ubuntu Budgie and hence have restricted the style-class
application to UB.

yes THANK YOU aenesunal the fuller explanation is here

and a shorter version here:

SERIOUSLY seth-arnold - YOU win the WORST ANSWER to a question on
launchpad award. That answer honestly could have been kept to yourself
and saved all of us the time to read. I created an acct and completed a
capture just to thank a decent reply and try to help those looking for
solid geek solutions over techno geek games.

[Bug 1740143] [NEW] backport btrfs ssd mount option fix

2017-12-26 Thread Vasya Pupkin
Public bug reported:

Hello,

It appears that all kernels before 4.14 had a problem with btrfs ssd
mount option. According to
https://btrfs.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Gotchas#ssd_mount_option, it has
a negative impact on usability and lifetime of modern SSDs. Since it is
enabled by default when SSD is detected, it affects all systems with SSD
drives. Please backport this commit to normal and HWE kernels:

[Bug 1579454] Re: Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 runs ubiquity without root so it fails

2017-12-26 Thread MWorks
Hello everyone, I´m trying to install Ubuntu Gnome 16.04.3 to my Asus
Rog GL552VW, I´ve been able to go into the try option (I can enter and
try ubuntu) but when I try to install, right after it officially starts
(after selecting region, language, and which partition it will use) an
error pops up, saying: System Program Problem detected, and the
installations hangs eternally,

I noticed the window that was about to open, the one that shows you
random ubuntu stuff, doesn´t load (its right when its about to load when
the error appears). I´ve found the /var/crash/ folder, and it says:

total 15656
-rw-r——-1 root whoopsie 16005864 _usr_lib_ubiquity_bin_ubiquity.0.crash
-rw-r—–1 root whoopsie 22082 _usr_share_ubiquity_plugininstall.py.0.crash
Any help will be appreciated.

Happy Christmass you all 😀

Thanks for reporting.

There's already bug 1732566 requesting a newer version of the protobuf

that it also has a bug watch for a corresponding Debian bug report)

[Bug 1706969] Re: JavaDoc reports warning for methods named is*Property*

2017-12-26 Thread Stefan Huehner
After some more testing that seems to be an upstream openjdk issue as
reported in https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8185424 [1].

Reason why it did only show up in debian/ubuntu builds is the patch:
disable-doclint-by-default.diff.
which defaults javadoc to -Xdoclint:none to avoid warnings.

Adding that -Xdoclint:none option manually make the issue easily reproducible in
a.) oracle binary jdk 8u151
b.) jdk8u openjdk mercurial checkout
c.) not in oracle binary jdk 9.0.1

As i can't directly comment on the openjdk bug i asked in #openjdk to
get that issue re-opened there and the info added.

Not sure whether it is exactly the same though. In syslog I see the FIFO

Yeah it does go to sleep after no use with those settings activated. It's
supposed to disappear from fwupd as a result too so I expected a different
error than that. But if you went really really fast I suppose that's a
possibility.

[Bug 1732032] Re: ip maddr show and ip maddr show dev enP20p96s0 show different data

2017-12-26 Thread Andreas Hasenack
I had a super nice and detailed reply written here, but of course I lost
it. Browsers are stupid things sometimes. So here are the comments that
survived.

TL;DR:
firejail is known to fail on s390 because there is no thunderbird package for a
mainframe. I emailed ubuntu-devel@ and also pinged #ubuntu-devel on irc.
Switching the test bed from a container to a VM for s390 a while back allowed
this new test to run.

Others are green, with the exception of trusty:
a) armhf: fails copying the device /dev/null elsewhere with -a, which equates
to creating a device outside of tmp, which is forbidden. Last time this worked
was when the test bed was on lxc in 2016. On lxd it doesn't work. The other
architectures are not using lxd. We should probably add a constraint so that
the test only runs in vms. Should it be added to the current SRU package for
trusty?

b) ppc: a grub error:
Generating grub configuration file ...
grub-probe: error: not a directory.
run-parts: /etc/kernel/postinst.d/zz-update-grub exited with return code 1

I pinged #ubuntu-devel about it, since I have no idea how to setup and
run a ppc vm, but got no response:

https://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2017/12/07/%23ubuntu-devel.html#t19:33

ahasenack is there something going on with setting up ppc64el autopkg
tests in excuses? I have 3 different packages failing there with the same error

ahasenack grub-probe: error: not a directory. 19:33

Got no response. I don't even know if grub is used in ppc.

Regarding amd64 smoke test, I've been using the updated package on my machine
(artful/amd64).

[Bug 1740135] [NEW] Support snaps

2017-12-26 Thread Ads20000
Public bug reported:

Please support the ability to install snaps ( https://snapcraft.io/ ) in

support Flatpak ( https://flatpak.org/ ) installation and, perhaps, go
one step further and allow AppImage ( https://appimage.org/ )
installation, perhaps integrating with Simon Peter's Bintray (
https://bintray.com/probono/AppImages ) or fetching AppImages from
certain arbitrary locations, but separate bugs should be filed for
these, this is a bug asking for LSC to support snaps).

I'm running into the exact same bug in Fedora 27 - but what's really
bizarre is that I'm using the same hardware, Dell Latitude e7470.

Just filed a Gnome bug here:

[Bug 1740031] Re: REFIND can't boot ubuntu 18.04

2017-12-26 Thread Bougron
Hello
I found the cause and a way around the problem but it does not suit me at all.

My disk environment is as follows:
A RAID-1 storage consisting of two 500-GB disks. One of which is connected to a
USB3 port.
A 2TB internal storage disk.
A 120 GB SSD containing software.

In version 16.04, the SSD is always seen as being SDA.
and the external drive is named SDD.

In version 18.04 (and also 17.10)
The external drive is named SDA and the SSD is named SDB
It is in this context that I can not boot and that I have the incident
indicated.

In version 18.04 (and also 17.10) if I put the external drive in power OFF
mode, I will be able to boot normally because the SSD will be seen as SDA.
However RAIDS1 will be out of order. It will have to be repaired. This is not
satisfactory.

Mybe I can solve the problem by putting options in the file
refind_linux.conf?
but I do not know which ones.

[Bug 1740134] [NEW] File received with "bluetooth file transfer" cannot be saved

2017-12-26 Thread Rüdiger Kupper
Public bug reported:

Receiving files with "bluetooth file transfer" works fine -- but just that. The
files received appear in the lower part of the app window, but you cannot save
them anywhere! Swiping to the right only shows the trash can symbol, so
literally the only thing I can do with the received files is delete them! You
can't even save them to the "Downloads" folder. What good is a file transfer
tool, if the received file cannot be used any further?
I am quite puzzled -- or am I missing something essential?

  [Regression Potential]

   * During transition, if some user switches to newer zstd version, and
then send compressed data to another user has not yet updated zstd, the
receiver will not be able to decompress as long as he does not update.

   * Note though that newer version contains a compatibility module which
makes it able to read data generated by older versions, such as v0.5.1.
Any existing document compressed with v0.5.1 will still be readable
  after update to v1.3.1.

  [Other Info]

   * Linux kernel 4.14 now integrates zstd compression / decompression,
primarily for BtrFS and SquashFS, with patches available for reiser4,
zram, and initrd. Kernel version does not support compatibility module,
hence cannot read data from v0.5.1. Userland tools associated with these
services will fail if they link to Ubuntu LTS libzstd, as generating
  incompatible data.

[Bug 1739981] Re: package samba 2:4.5.8+dfsg-0ubuntu0.17.04.8 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2017-12-26 Thread Andreas Hasenack
Thanks for filing this bug in Ubuntu.

Could you please provide the following:
- output of sudo systemctl status smbd.service nmbd.service samba-ad-dc.service
- all files from /var/log/samba that start with "log", i.e., /var/log/samba/log*
- your samba config file /etc/samba/smb.conf

You seem to have configured samba to run as an AD server (that's the
samba-ad-dc service) and that service has failed to start. I'll need the
above information in order to diagnose the problem.

Thanks!

[Bug 1740126] [NEW] When removing the memory card panel unity message does not appear with a resolution to remove the drive.

2017-12-26 Thread Александр
Public bug reported:

1. Expect to see the message with the permission, or prohibition of extraction
media when it is a software disconnect.
2. Did not see this message.
3. Put the card on the panel unity clicked "Disconnect", wait, no response.
Prepollical have the memory card removed via nautilus, there was a message
about the possibility to eject the device.

___

[Bug 1740116] Re: Touchpad detected by kernel as PS/2 mouse

2017-12-26 Thread Apicultor
Removing specificity to kernel-package

** Package changed: kernel-package (Ubuntu) => ubuntu

** Description changed:

- Panasonic Toughbook CF-30K (Mk3) touchpad is not detected as a touchpad,
- but rather only a PS/2 mouse. Pointing and clicking works, but scrolling
- doesn't (and there is no touchpad options in the relevant control panel,
- only pointer speed).
+ Panasonic Toughbook CF-30 (specifically CF-30K, also known as "CF30",
+ "CF-30 Mk3", "CF-30 Mark 3", etc) touchpad is being detected as only a
+ generic PS/2 mouse, not a touchpad.
+
+ Pointing and clicking (also tapping to click) works, but scrolling
+ doesn't work -- and there is no touchpad options in the relevant control
+ panel, only pointer speed.

This appears to be happening in the kernel, not in X.

Yes there are. See comment 6, for example.

To prevent malicious code injection.

Fixed security bugs aside (whether in openssl or in apt/gpg signing),
the current security mechanism works as designed.

Adding HTTPS as an additional layer would be nice, which is why this bug
remains open. But the sky is not falling. Please stop ignoring the other
arguments already made in this bug and pretend that it is.

The default Ubuntu system keyboard is appearing and activating on the

I have/had no devices attached to the Thunderbolt/USB-C socket.

But like I said, I ran the command quickly after reboot. Perhaps it
enumerated right after boot but went away after a while of disuse?

2017-12-26 Thread Michael N
Public bug reported:

windows pre-installed on dell, with disk and ssd, but windows is
installed on ssd. The usb ubuntu installer doesn't find the ssd, and

[Bug 1740116] [NEW] Touchpad detected by kernel as PS/2 mouse

2017-12-26 Thread Alexander Burke
Public bug reported:

Panasonic Toughbook CF-30K (Mk3) touchpad is not detected as a touchpad,
but rather only a PS/2 mouse. Pointing and clicking works, but scrolling
doesn't (and there is no touchpad options in the relevant control panel,
only pointer speed).

This appears to be happening in the kernel, not in X.
