[Bug 932177] Re: XFCE (and other non-GNOME) desktops do not initialise gnome-keyring correctly / WARNING: gnome-keyring:: couldn't connect to PKCS11
The solutions here did not work in my case, but a solution which did work for me can be found in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-keyring/+bug/1022322 which says: The file causing the problem is /etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-keyring-pkcs11.desktop . [Bug 1802617] Re: After upgrade to 18.10 boot fails on waiting for encrypted source device
For those looking to solve this problem please note: removing the swap line from /etc/fstab and /etc/crypttab will fix the problem, but it'll also disable swap. Instead of removing the lines as #9 suggests, simply comment them out. Once you've successfully rebooted, un-comment the lines, update initramfs and grub, and reboot a second time. This fixed the problem for me. I also added size=256 to my crypttab hoping it permanently fixes this problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1802617 Title: After upgrade to 18.10 boot fails on waiting for encrypted source device To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cryptsetup/+bug/1802617/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1236951] Re: package tex-common 4.04 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Update from 13.10 to 14.04 caused me this problem too: the upgrade failed to install tex-common and emacsen-common and reinstalling did not work. Combining the comments above with instructions on http://tug.org/texlive/ this is what worked for me. If someone can say how this should really be done, I'd be happy to see it. 1. Uninstall everything to do with emacs and xemacs (I used synaptic package manager, to find what to remove and to completely remove) 2. Uninstall tex-common and all texlive-* files and sudo rm -rf /etc/texmf as in comment 12 above. 3. Remove all texlive files (if any) e.g. sudo rm -rf /usr/local/texlive/2014 rm -rf ~/.texlive2014 4. Install emacs24 then auctex using synaptic package manager 5. Install tex-common using synaptic package manager 6. Install texlive following the instructions on http://tug.org/texlive/ (Installation from dpkg or Ubuntu software centre or synaptic package manager don't work for me.) 7. Add paths to /etc/environment as suggested by the installation program in 6. That is, for the version I installed, to the end of the PATH line add :/usr/local/texlive/2014/bin/x86_64-linux just before the closing" and add 2 new lines INFOPATH=":/usr/local/texlive/2014/texmf-dist/doc/info" MANPATH=":/usr/local/texlive/2014/texmf-dist/doc/man" (without the colon, the manpath to everything except tex will be broken) 8. Edit /etc/manpath.config by adding line MANPATH_MAP /usr/local/texlive/2014/bin/x86_64-linux /usr/local/texlive/2014/texmf-dist/doc/man after the last MANPATH_MAP line that already exists. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1236951 Title: package tex-common 4.04 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tex-common/+bug/1236951/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1188131] [NEW] lightdm does not start on boot
Public bug reported: Lightdm fails to start on boot up, resulting in a blank screen. Lightdm can be started manually from tty1, for example, after the machine has been booted up. If the default browser is set to gdm, then gdm starts up on boot. This problem first arose immediately after upgrade to 3.2.0-45-generic (from 3.2.0-44) in Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS I have tried, to no avail, 1. Moving etc/X11/xorg.conf to a backup 2. uninstalling unity-greeter, lightdm, lightdm-gobject-1-0 3. deleting /etc/lightdm and /var/lib/lightdm 4. rebooting and reinstalling unity-greeter, lightdm, lightdm-gobject-1-0 5. Adding the line "sleep 2" immediately before "exec lightdm" in /etc/init/lightdm.conf 6. Checking that /etc/X11/default-display-manager says "/usr/sbin/lightdm" After reinstalling all the above it was necessary to change ownership of .Xauthority from root to my userid, to allow lightdm to accept a password. After this lightdm still works but still does not start up on boot. [Bug 1090656] Re: Passwords aren't accepted anymore by PolicyKit
This is a...@imtony.com I installed Ubuntu on my brother's system a year ago... IT worked great! A few months ago he bought another computer and moved all his date to another computer and gave me back the computer. When I setup the computer I discovered that it would not update because it asked for a password. I ask my brother and he told me he never knew the password. SINCE I set it up, he thought I had the password. I NEVER setup a password! -- Since my brother was the only person to use the system, and I was the only person to set up the computer, NO passwords were ever established. NOW when I tired to UPDATE the operating system and it kept asking for a password. It was never updated. 196Megs --- one full year of updates--- So whatever is wrong could be ONE YEAR OLD! Now they told me that the Policy was no passwords-- and since they changed the policy sometime in 2012--- I figured I had to RE-INSTALL the entire program! I haven't done it yet! I put the computer on the shelf. I am a website builder- I host websites -- I am retired Engineer! so I am not dumb! or stupid! I even use to build my own computers back in the 80's and 90's --- (they were too expensive) that's it-- If you guys want me to try something-- send me instruction -- and I'll try it! BUT if push comes to shove-- I'll just re-install the software. [Bug 1090656] Re: Passwords aren't accepted anymore by PolicyKit
Brian My brother was using a system with Ubuntu 11.1 on it! It wouldn't upgrade! It kept asking for a password. I went to pa and picked up the unit because he's MOVED on to a MAC (old one at that) He said he really liked Ubuntu but he could never get it to update. I am the original guy who gave him the PC and Ubuntu 11.1 and he loved it (he's got a kid in college) he got his email and search the web, he even did reports and put them on SD card. and took them to work. There are 196 updates waiting to be upgraded. Now he did tell me he had to down load the software and reinstall it and TOLD me he put NO PASSWORDS in.(I had configured it special for his video card-- it wouldn't work before but I went to help and they told me what to do) aj -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1090656 Title: Passwords aren't accepted anymore by PolicyKit To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/aptdaemon/+bug/1090656/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Carlos, the Fedora patch reverts Ulrich's patch and adds Andreas' initial patch. So, instead of looking what the Fedora patch does, I think it's better to look at Ulrich's patch and Andreas commit individually since they are two different solutions to the same problem. I don't know why Ulrich changed Andreas' patch. Looking at the diff between Ulrich's and Andreas' patch is IMO not the best way to review this - but that's what the Fedora patch does (instead of reverting a patch and adding another). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/893605 Title: crashes with glibc-2.14/2.15 on dlopen (seen with kvm and gnucash) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/glibc/+bug/893605/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 955681] [NEW] php5-common's /etc/cron.d/php5 session expiration can go crazy
Public bug reported: In this cron command: $ cat /etc/issue.net Ubuntu 11.10 $ cat /etc/cron.d/php5 # /etc/cron.d/php5: crontab fragment for php5 # This purges session files older than X, where X is defined in seconds # as the largest value of session.gc_maxlifetime from all your php.ini # files, or 24 minutes if not defined. See /usr/lib/php5/maxlifetime # Look for and purge old sessions every 30 minutes 09,39 * * * * root [ -x /usr/lib/php5/maxlifetime ] && [ -d /var/lib/php5 ] && find /var/lib/php5/ -depth -mindepth 1 -maxdepth 1 -type f -cmin +$(/usr/lib/php5/maxlifetime) ! -execdir fuser -s {} 2>/dev/null \; -delete There appears to be a problem with fuser where it can leave subprocesses around that eventually go zombie after the parent fuser exits. On heavily loaded systems this can cause a race condition where subsequent fuser calls after the first need to check an exponentially increasing number of processes until the system runs out of memory or PIDs. We worked around the problem by modifying the script thus: [ -x /usr/lib/php5/maxlifetime ] && [ -d /var/lib/php5 ] && find /var/lib/php5/ -depth -mindepth 1 -maxdepth 1 -type f -cmin +$(/usr/lib/php5/maxlifetime) | while read file ; do if ! fuser -s $file ; then rm $file ; sleep 2 ; fi ; done Which does the same thing but waits 2secs between each fuser call to prevent the problem from occurring. Of course this significantly slows down processing time and is not a perfect fix anyway on an even heavier loaded system. Our final modification is just to delete all files older than the max lifetime regardless of whether they are being used or not: [ -x /usr/lib/php5/maxlifetime ] && [ -d /var/lib/php5 ] && find /var/lib/php5/ -depth -mindepth 1 -maxdepth 1 -type f -cmin +$(/usr/lib/php5/maxlifetime) -delete For our application this works fine. I believe to fix this problem either fuser needs to be changed so it doesn't leave children around after exiting, or another tool should be used instead (lsof?). It may also be possible to fix this with a call to the sh builtin 'wait' after each fuser to clean up the children/zombies (would require the exec loop to be pulled out of the find command, as per our first modification), but we didn't test this and can't easily repro the scenario. ** Affects: php5 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/955681 Title: php5-common's /etc/cron.d/php5 session expiration can go crazy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/php5/+bug/955681/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 694191] [NEW] LVM Impossible to Configure
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: debian-installer I have begun installation of Ubuntu Server (64-bit) 10.04 LTS. I selected to Guided Partitioning with LVM, and investigated the suggested layout of the partitioner. I didn't like it, so I decided that I wanted to adjust the physical partitions. I attempted to delete the LVM physical partition, which is forbidden due to the existence of a logical volume group (that I don't like). So I attempted to delete the volume groups, but was unable to do so. Investigating my options, I found that proceeding to the next stage (to write the LVM data) warns me that I cannot come back to modify physical partitions once the volume groups are defined. Fine, I don't want them anyways, I want to change the layout. There is no option to delete them (the logical volume groups) however. I attempted several things to find some way to delete the volume group to no avail. Finally, I decided to reboot the system and see what I can do. I selected "manual" to set the partitions, and the volume groups were displayed to me... again I am unable to delete them. Okay, fine.. bye bye partition table. I issued dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda count=8192 to wipe out the partition table on the disk and start again. I exited the shell, went back to the "detect disk" phase, and the physical disks are gone... but the volume group remains. Ah! Why won't this thing just die! As you can imagine, it is very frustrating to be in an installer trap such as this. I'll see what I can do to wipe out the stupid volume groups that won't die, I'm not concerned about that... but it is definitely a bug to not have the option to truly manipulate the setup of the disks. I don't recall being given an option to just wipe things out and start again... ** Affects: debian-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/694191 Title: LVM Impossible to Configure -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 482757] Re: Grub loading. The symbol ' ' not found. Aborted. Press any key...
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 496435 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/496435 I had the same issue happen to me today. Using a new Inspiron 1545, dualing with Windows 7 and Kubuntu 9.10. The culprit is clearly the Dell DataSafe Local Backup. It only occurred after it requested to be updated and I unknowingly obliged. After reboot, grub was hosed. Called Dell and talked to their hardware and Linux units mainly to complain about their software and all they could do was blame the dual setup with Ubuntu, and advise me to completely reinstall everything. Good thing I found and read this report before I did that! After reinstalling grub2 with the live cd using method 1, all is well.(Thanks to the links posted in this thread.) Very easy fix. I went back into Windows and DID NOT uninstall DDSLB just to test and then rebooted up again and grub is functioning fine. My two cents is that DDSLB may only affect grub when it is updated, or explicitly used... we'll see. If it happens again, I will surely uninstall DataSafe and just reinstall grub. [Bug 486518] [NEW] kopete with Jabber: unrecoverable error in the protocol, frequent disconnection
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kopete I have an openfire server, and frequently get a message (every few minutes) from Kopete that describes that there is an unrecoverable error in the protocol. This bug has become incredibly annoying, as I am constantly disconnecting / reconnecting to the Jabber server. There is a similar bug filed here: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=212585 I'm connecting to my jabber server with SSL, on the default port. The only suspicious thing in the openfire server logs is an inability to lookup proxy.jabber.org with DNS, but this might not be related. I first suspected that this error was related to the openfire configuration itself, but since others seem to have the error on the KDE bug tracker I now suspect Kopete. I'm on Kubuntu 9.10. kopete: Installed: 4:4.3.2-0ubuntu4 Candidate: 4:4.3.2-0ubuntu4 Version table: *** 4:4.3.2-0ubuntu4 0 500 http://ubuntu.osuosl.org karmic/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 Date: Sat Nov 21 21:18:29 2009 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/kopete NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Package: kopete 4:4.3.2-0ubuntu4 ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash LANGUAGE= ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-14.48-generic SourcePackage: kdenetwork Uname: Linux 2.6.31-14-generic i686 ** Affects: kopete (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 -- kopete with Jabber: unrecoverable error in the protocol, frequent disconnection https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/486518 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Ok I finally found the cause for that problem. When I move the mouse during the double click it will be recognized as a "double click" and as a "drag and drop".
