[Bug 206224] Re: 5th Casual Gameplay Design Competition freezes Flash

2008-04-05 Thread Aleksander Kamil Modzelewski
No and no.
Linux HumanError 2.6.24-15-generic #1 SMP Fri Apr 4 03:48:31 UTC 2008 i686
GNU/Linux

BTW, after latest Firefox Xul upgrade the crash became less
reproducible - I think the crash I'm experiencing now is the same as the
usual flash crash that happens at random when some flashes (Youtube, for
example) finish loading.

[Bug 198340] [NEW] Linux 2.6.24-11 breaks Broadcom BCM4312 wireless

2008-03-04 Thread Aleksander Kamil Modzelewski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.24-11-generic

In hardy, after upgrade from 2.6.24-10 v. 2.6.24-10.16 to 2.6.24-11 v
2.6.24-11.17 my wireless became very unstable. Connections are sometimes
established, but extremely slow and unreliable.

This happens only if 2.6.24-11 was used since power-on. If I boot with

[Bug 134125] Re: [gutsy] microphone doesn't work after kernel and kernel-modules update

2007-08-22 Thread Aleksander Kamil Modzelewski
Similiar problems on Lenovo 3000 N100. The card behaves as if the
external amplifier switch is permanently on (normally this causes the
laptop to disable external speakers but causes distortion), but the
switch itself disappears from mixer along with several other options.

Generally a second iteration of regression (last time I checked, several
months ago, the Feisty drivers worked ok, with headphones auto-detection
and without distortion. The gutsy kernel regressed to the state describe
in bugs #88546 and #92719, and now regressed further.

[Bug 63919] Re: bcm43xx causes touchpad instability and system freezes

2007-05-16 Thread Aleksander Kamil Modzelewski
On linux-image-2.6.22-3-generic 2.6.22-3.9 on gutsy the problem gets
both worse and better: ndiswrapper doesn't work anymore (I don't know
why), but I can effectively work using the bcm43xx driver. Still, there
*are* problems when connecting (I'm using WEP) and then, after periods
of stability, the mouse gets chunky again, then gets stable. Sometimes
this causes the touchpad to loose some of its features (i.e.
touchscroll), but logging in and out helps.

No system crashes this time.

It is similiar and quite probably both bugs are related to some buggy

[Bug 73696] Re: Default workspace switching is very jerky

Yes, sliding is quite irritating. Surprisingly, the cube is (at least
for me) easier on the eyes than the classic switch, and with
/apps/compiz/plugins/rotate/screen0/options/snap_top on and the (not
well described) function to switch the image it becomes quite useful as
a presentation software.

The cube also fixes several other bugs/underfeaturisms, such as
ctrl+alt+(left|right) window moving.

I'm using an i945 and here the default should be either metacity-like or
cube.

[Bug 72851] Re: Intel HDA is not working anymore

2006-12-04 Thread Aleksander Kamil Modzelewski
Whoa. Just tried this:
modprobe snd-hda-intel probe_mask=1
And it worked. I think the si3054 is related to the modem on my board. Judging
by the lack of any word about the modem in lspci I guess the same card is
controlling both sound and modem.

The hg version of alsa-drivers I installed over the current modules (and
replaced them with the stock Ubuntu ones later) also failed without any
parameter, but after first try with probe_mask=1 they started to work
with probe_mask=3. With probe_mask=3 I got more /dev/pcm* devices than
usual and caller_id in alsamixer :-).

The stock kernel reacts to different probe_masks somewhat
inconsistently, I can try to investigate a bit further if that would be
of any help but I am not a kernel hacker (yet :-)) and my capabilities
are somewhat limited.

I couldn't reproduce the bug since installing the debug packages. I may

One real difference that comes to my mind is that I have clicked the

it could be the same file being brought to my attention many times.
Twen's comment seems to confirm that, but I can't come up with a way to

[Bug 63919] bcm43xx causes touchpad instability and system freezes

I use a Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop with a BCM4310 UART PCI Express card
(pci-id 14e4:4312, rev 01). When using ndiswrapper the card works ok.
Using it with the native driver causes the touchpad to go unstable (it
sometimes goes to the point when it locks up, getting normal only after
switching to another vt and back, but usually just locks/hops/random
clicks for several seconds every couple of minutes) when trying to
actually *use* the card (i.e. connect to a network, do a scan, transfer
something). The card more or less works (it is unstable as well, but not
as much as the touchpad). Last time during test unloading the module for
about third time without reboot caused an oops and froze the system.

I will attach some logs and pci -nvv output.

[Bug 63919] Re: bcm43xx causes touchpad instability and system freezes

2006-10-04 Thread Aleksander Kamil Modzelewski
This is the log. I have configured the interface for my WEP before. The
instabilities occur with WPA as well (I have successfully connected with
WPA/Network Manager at my friends, but the system was unstable.
Regretfully I don't have any logs from that time)

still unstable and I still cannot connect to my home WEP network. I'll
try unencrypted when I'm at the univeristy.

[Bug 56289] Re: Gnome window list causes gnome-panel to eat all CPU

2006-09-07 Thread Aleksander Kamil Modzelewski
[I have missed that comment somehow]
Anyway, now the problem seems to have disappeared - I was using compiz without
the window list in the meantime, and I think there were several updates in the
meantime. I have removed debian-menu (along with the menu package), but this
doesn't seem related to me - 1. I have applied another workaround (installed
the package generating the debian-menu) 2. The problem was unrelated to the
presence of the applications menu.

[Bug 56289] Re: Gnome window list causes gnome-panel to eat all CPU

2006-08-19 Thread Aleksander Kamil Modzelewski
There's only one thread in gnome-panel. I have identified gnome-panel as
the exact program, but it's the window list applet that causes the
slowdown [disabling it causes the problem to go away]. I attached a gdb
session to it and made several backtraces while the gnome-panel got
slow. A new note: the cpu usage goes up only when switching
workspaces/iconyfing some window/otherwise changing the appearance of
the window-list. On other times the whole panel works ok. Applets
working in separate instances (i.e. Tomboy) are not affected at all, but
applets working inside gnome-panel process, like the gnome-menu, (I
don't know the exact architecture, just noticed that some applets have
their own processes, so sorry for inprecise wording) are all blocked of
course.

I have attached the backtraces with some annotation.

Oh. Sorry for long reply times - the bug is hard to reproduce, sometimes
the window-list works correctly for many hours and sometimes it starts
to get flaky after 30 minutes, and I still can't see how it is connected
with what I do on the machine.

[Bug 56289] Re: Gnome window list causes gnome-panel to eat all CPU

2006-08-15 Thread Aleksander Kamil Modzelewski
Doesn't seem so. I know that bug and I have used a workaround mentioned
in the comments (I have menu-xdg installed).

When I strace -p the gnome-panel and switch workspaces I see lots of
open(/usr/lib/X11/locale/common/xlcUTF-8.so.2, O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such
file or directory)
open(/usr/share/X11/locale/common/xlcUTF-8.so.2, O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No
such file or directory)
(I have attached the strace) - but that's not related on the presence of the
applet.

Another interesting symptom is that the applet slows down the panel
gradually - but just removing the applet and adding it again doesn't
help the issue (just removing does. Freshly started panel with the
applet works ok, but slows down after some - not very long - time).

I am going to try some other debugging techniques mentioned in bug 52405
, but I'm inexperienced in debugging complex software and can take some
time.
