[Bug 1586707] Re: Failure mounting cifs volumes pam_mount
The value of "winbind expand groups" is 1 for me. However, PAM still refuses to mount. I resolved this by changing the primary group of each user in Active Directory to match the value of "sgrp", so apparently the attribute still only works if it's the primary group of the user. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1586707 Title: Failure mounting cifs volumes pam_mount To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1586707/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1586707] Re: Failure mounting cifs volumes pam_mount
I confirm that this bug occurs on Ubuntu 16.04 as well. A workaround is to omit the "sgrp" attribute which sometimes causes a 10-second hang per mount for local users (with no permission for volume) when logging in. With 10 volumes to mount... yikes! [Bug 1330480] [NEW] dunst leaks memory

[Bug 968016] Re: Suspend with Asus P8P67-M PRO motherboard fails (upstream patch included)
Like I mentioned in bug #969576 Salisbury's test kernel does not work. When suspending the machine does not even try to shutdown (so the behaviour is completely different than is described in this bug report). It appears that patches [1] and/or [2] produces a completely new problem. Currently I am running kernel compiled from source [3] where I removed patches [1] and [2], and applied patch [4]. With this kernel no bug #969576 appears and the machine suspends (and resumes) without any problems. [Bug 969576] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at (null) [asus_wmi_rfkill_init]
I don't know how to reproduce (or even try) it. It just appears after system loads asus_wmi (asus_wmi: ASUS WMI generic driver loaded). With 3.2.0-20 it just loads the module and nothing crashes. :) But there is more! This is related to bug #968016 because patches [1] and [2] breaks suspend (but not in the same way as #968016) and also produces this error. Currently I am running kernel compiled from source [3] where I removed patches [1] and [2], and applied patch [4]. With this kernel no asus_wmi_rfkill_init error appears and the machine suspends without problems. [Bug 232277] [NEW] virt-manager / kvm: after installing any operating system it won't boot
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: virt-manager I've tried to install Debian Etch, FreeBSD, Arch Linux, ReactOS and Windows Server 2003 using virt-manager and kvm in Hardy. All of them seemed to install fine, but none of them was able to boot from the hard disk after the mandatory reboot. Debian kept waiting for the root to mount, ReactOS said "freeldr.sys not found" etc. etc. I used the default configuration for everything. It would seem that virt-manager or the middleware it uses mess up the order of hard drives: I was able to boot Debian after replacing root=/dev/hdb with root=dev/hda in GRUB. Maybe this has something to do with the automatic changing of boot options after reboot (virt-manager doesn't boot from the cd-rom after reboot)? I'm not 100 % sure if this is a virt-manager problem, but at least I'm able to install the operating systems fine using the command line: kvm -hda foo.img -cdrom disk.iso -boot X (where X is c or d) So it's not directly kvm-related either. [Bug 229137] Re: The user cannot select sound card
I'm having the same problem, but even the workaround did not work for me in every application. Notably flashplugin-nonfree (with libflashsupport) and gnome-sound-properties PulseAudio test beep (!) still use the wrong sound card. To my knowledge, they use PulseAudio natively. $ cat ~/.pulse/default-sink alsa_output.pci_1412_1724_sound_card_0_alsa_playback_0 $ cat /etc/pulse/default.pa | grep default-sink set-default-sink alsa_output.pci_1412_1724_sound_card_0_alsa_playback_0 Both are correct. I think the problem is: $ pulseaudio -C >>> list-sinks index: 0 name: index: 1 name: It seems that PulseAudio has the same age-old problem like ALSA. Applications just use index 0 while they should be fetching the default device. I consider this a bug in PulseAudio because it lets this happen; set-default-sink should either force the device to index 0, or for the very least there should be big warning signs in the documentation for developers. I've been able to set indices manually in ALSA by editing /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base, but I haven't found similiar solution to PulseAudio. [Bug 132279] Re: Usability: 'Cannot mount volume' details are not selectable
Maybe someone could post a new bug or blueprint of this one? Preferably one, that has rights to make this change as a "High" or "Medium" priority, as this is pretty important for users who come from Windows! A sample case: Person A installs Ubuntu on his laptop, and has Windows XP/Vista on his desktop, he has some external HD drives which he uses pretty often. A copies some files from his Windows desktop to the drive, hoping he could copy the files to his laptop, and when the copying is ready, he just pulls the USB-cable off his desktop (like 9 of 10 windows users do! 7 of 10 don't even know the possibility to "Safely remove hardware"!!!) and plugs it in his Ubuntu laptop and waits a moment.. Then a window pops in and tells Mr. A that the volume cannot be mounted. He thinks about "What the heck is a volume?" "And why it can't be.. umm.. mounted?? It worked in my precious Windows XP!" He then tries to unplug it, and plug it back in, and again, the same window comes out and tells Mr. A that the "Volume cannot be mounted". A does not have the interest to check the "Details" -printout, and even if he does, he does not know where to use the forced mount command! Mr. A then plugs the drive to his Windows desktop and it works. He then thinks about what could be the problem, and gets an answer: "As it works in Windows, and not in Ubuntu, the reason is that damn Ubuntu which does not just work". But if we just had showed him a warning "This drive has been removed unsafely. If you have an Windows computer, plug the drive back into it and use "Safely remove hardware" to remove it, and after that you can use it safely in this computer. If you wish, you can force the mounting of the drive, which however, can lead to data loss." And buttons "Force" and "Cancel". Maybe the user cancels it, "Safely removes it" in windows, and then plugs it back into his Ubuntu laptop and it works. Or if the user don't have an Windows computer available, Forces the mounting with his own risk. And again, another happy user! Your choice after all, but that's how i see it. If anyone wishes to create a new blueprint or bug, you can copy that scenario into the Details of it. -- Usability: 'Cannot mount volume' details are not selectable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/132279 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 132279] Re: Usability: 'Cannot mount volume' details are not selectable
But why is the -o force not enabled by default? If the case's that it's potentially dangerous to mount a dirty volume, the package should ASK the user what to do, ignore the case that can lead to data loss and mount it, or "Do not mount". The possibility of data loss in dirty unmount situations is relatively small, so small that every volume should be mountable without any data loss. I have always forced the mount, and nothing bad has happened. -- Usability: 'Cannot mount volume' details are not selectable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/132279 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 156442] Subtitles freeze xine video playback using compiz and nvidia-glx-new
Public bug reported: I'm using the nvidia-glx-new driver with desktop effects turned on. I have a GeForce 7600 GT. More often than not, video playback freezes when subtitles show up. Not completely, though: frame rate drops to something like one frame in 15 seconds. There's also some horizontal tearing in the middle of the screen. This happens both in windowed and fullscreen modes. MPlayer does not have this problem, possibly because there the subtitle resolution and the video resolution match. I don't know about GStreamer. When I disabled desktop effects in the hope this would fix the problem, all video playback was corrupted, showing just static memory garbage. Reboot would have helped there. CableStar works in 2.6.22 (Gutsy). I think they just dropped the support for CableStar for a while and then added it later. [Bug 45786] Re: Default sound card selected incorrectly on boot
For some reason the Revolution 5.1 is the default (over Intel HDA) in Gutsy, now. I don't what kind of logic Gutsy uses, but I'm happy. :) I did a clean install and all the settings seem to stay in gnome-sound- properties. [Bug 67998] Re: Dist-upgrades from Dapper to Edgy break on existing ~/.asoundrc.asoundconf due to missing conf parameters (e.g., Unable to find definition 'defaults.pcm.ipc_key')
I encountered this bug too, and noticed the same "unable to find" ALSA errors while trying to play Frets on Fire. I did a dist-upgrade, but sound vanished after first reboot. Formatted everything except /home and did a clean install, but again sound vanished after first reboot. I wonder if there's updates that corrupt the sound configuration. To complicate things, I have two sound cards: NVidia and Revolution51. Trying to switch to Revolution51 (ICE1724) in Gnome sound settings menu just displayed some errors. "asoundconf set-default-card Revolution51" fixed the bug for me. I may also have removed ~/.asoundrc*. Info: Ubuntu Feisty Fawn 7.04 (clean install and dist-upgrade from working Edgy). [Bug 95394] Re: beryl-xgl missing from beryl and beryl-core (feisty)
I can conform that the beryl-repo packages work fantastic with my laptop (radeon mobile x700 PCI-E) when using fglrx driver. [Bug 70666] Re: Messed up page settings when printing a calendar

[Bug 71994] Re: Default sound card selection doesn't work properly or without reboot
I should add that the workaround above does, um, something to the other problem as well. After using it, it seems it's possible to change to card without reboot, but not back again. Sometimes it's random: sometimes the card changes only after playing a couple of files, for example. -- Default sound card selection doesn't work properly or without reboot https://launchpad.net/bugs/71994 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 71994] Default sound card selection doesn't work properly or without reboot
Public bug reported: Changing the card in System -> Settings -> Sound (gnome-sound- properties) rewrites ~/.asoundrc.asoundconf fine. amixer and others treat the card as if it were changed. However, the sound will play through the old card at least until reboot which isn't convenient if you want to change the sound card just for using headphones for a little while. gnome-sound-properties doesn't alert the user about the need for reboot. It also always shows that it's always using the same card (the module with the first index, it would appear). Multimedia volume keys do not adhere to the sound card chosen even after reboot - again, it would appear they use the module with the first index. Steps to repeat: 1. Install Ubuntu Dapper or Edgy to a system with two sound cards. 2. Open gnome-sound-properties and change the sound card. 3. Play sound: "aplay /usr/share/sounds/startup.wav" or use totem or rhythmbox. It will use the old card. 4. Open gnome-sound-properties. You will see the old card. 5. Reboot 7. Try multimedia keys - they will change the volume only for the driver module having the first index (cat /proc/asound/modules too see the indices) AFAIK this happens with all hardware. See also for confirmation: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+bug/45786 Workaround to change the module indices to get multimedia keys working: sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base Add the following lines: options snd-whatever-module-you-want-first index=0 options snd-whatever-module-you-want-second index=1 (See "cat /proc/asound/modules" for the modules, and replace '_' characters with '-'.) [Bug 70661] Printer output quality is horrible when using rotated PostScript files
Public bug reported: My Epson Stylus D88 printer normally produces excellent prints (although borderless doesn't work). However, when printing rotated PostScript files the output looks horrible - something like 72 dpi without antialiasing or proper grey tones. Steps to reproduce: 1. Print any text document to file.ps 2. psnup -s0.65 -2 file.ps book.ps 3. Print file.ps using Evince or whatever: rendering looks fine on Evince but definetly not on paper Using other utils than psnup doesn't matter. I don't really have experience with PostScript or Linux printing in general so I don't really know if it's the printer driver (Gutenprint) causing this or what. My current workaround is to convert the rotated PostScript file to ~300 dpi raster images using ImageMagick and convert them back to a PostScript file: 1. convert -density 300x300 book.ps book.png 2. rename book-?.png to book-01.png, book-02.png etc. 3. convert book-*.png book-raster.ps The workaround takes ages and hundreds of megabytes to complete, though. It's quite frustrating not to be able to use keyboard volume buttons as I don't have a volume knob in my active monitor speakers. Only the volume of the left channel changes, even if the gnome mixer is set to control both channels at the same time. Gnome mixer application doesn't work well with the Revolution: it forgets what tracks it's supposed to show and it has DAC, DAC, DAC 3 and DAC 3 tracks instead of plain DAC and DAC 1 like alsamixer. Only the second DAC / DAC 3 affects the sound volume (the changes are mirrored to the first DAC / DAC 3, but not the other way around). I wonder if it's possible to write a more user-friendly driver, all the DACs paired and renamed to Front, Back, etc. according to the card in use (5.1 or 7.1). [Bug 42965] Re: Can't add a printer in KDE: parser error?
I have a new Epson Stylus D88 and a clean Kubuntu 6.06 install and I got the same problem. I did the cleanupdrivers trick. What does it do?
