[Bug 725927] [NEW] System freezes when trying to switch users
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel I have an i865, when I try to switch between users, the system appears to freeze -- if I switch from the session indicator applet, I just get a black screen, if from the screensaver unlock window, that window stays visible. [Bug 653245] Re: Docky theme is absent!
@Chris: while the theme has been removed from the trunk, it's still in the sources shipped in Ubuntu, just disabled by the build system. Removing the patch and rebuilding re-enables the theme for me. On the subject of Docky, I'd disagree that running Do and Docky at the same time is a regression-less workaround: Docky pick a different set of applications to display, and doesn't appear to be as good at matching up running applications to their launchers as Do. Also, I like having the Do super-space shortcut loading in the dock, rather than taking up screen space elsewhere. Docky doesn't use quite as much RAM (29M) as Do (36M), but running them both together uses more than only running one. Are you sure you won't reconsider, please, at least while the stable version shipped with Ubuntu ships the theme. -- Docky theme is absent! https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/653245 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 647127] [NEW] Persistent compositing glitches
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: metacity Occasionally, a small area of the screen will be taken up by a patch of grey which is drop-shadowed like a window and always sits on top of other windows, but which persists across workspaces and is invisible to xprop. It's often been triggered by transient objects (menus and tooltips), but doesn't always take up the entire area of the menu. Less often, I'll be left with pieces of an application window. I'm using metacity with compositing enabled. The only way I've found to remove the glitches is to interrupt the compositor -- either by turning it off or by restarting the window manager. [Bug 413954] [NEW] gnome-power-manager displays some values at 1/10 of the correct amount
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager Gnome-power-manager reports some battery statistics at 1/10 of their true value, while others are correct. For example, the battery current charge, last full charge and design charge are given at 2.4Wh, 2.4Wh and 2.6Wh when the battery was actually built as 26Wh. Similarly, the discharge rate is given as ~1.1W, while it should be 11W. The charge rate, however, is given at 65.5W, which is correct. This also leads to wildly incorrect remaining charge times, with around 1m20s quoted for a 50% charge, which is roughly 40x out. [Bug 414048] [NEW] Text sometimes displays surrounded by a black box
Public bug reported: Occasionally, but often repeatably, text will display surrounded by black boxes. This is most problematic when the text itself is black! I'll attach a couple of screenshots, one from Gnome DO, the other from Gramps. Both applications consistently show the bug, as does Notify OSD. Firefox will sometimes block out text too, but mostly with non- black text. Gramps is the only application I've found so far which will consistently block out black text. It only does it on one of its screens (the pedigree screen) but makes that bit of UI almost completely unusable. [Bug 331952] Re: [HP 2133 MiniNote laptop] Unexpected and unrecoverable wireless disconnect with B43 driver
I found that, while disabling screen blanking did stop the bug being triggered in certain circumstances, wireless would still be disabled whenever I used the XVideo extension. As most of what I use the laptop for involves a mix of WiFi and XVideo, I reverted to Intrepid for a while... I've patched the Openchrome package from Jaunty to include the patch from Trac and tested it briefly on my Jaunty install, and I can verify that it fixed the issues I've seen, both with screen blanking and XV and also with suspend/resume. It's in my PPA, for anyone who feels up to trying it -- version 1:0.2.903+svn713-1ubuntu2~ppa3 is identical to 1:0.2.903+svn713-1ubuntu1 (which is the current Jaunty package) apart from the two-line patch. Glad you liked it :). Regarding why we didn't get an official release, I'd imagine it's because the Openchrome driver is needed by more than just the HP2133; while the patch might fix things for us, we've no way to tell that it doesn't break things horribly for everyone else. I'd think it would be more likely to be released to Jaunty once the patch has been accepted in some form by the Openchrome devs -- as far as I can see, none of the upstream devs have commented on it. -- [HP 2133 MiniNote laptop] Unexpected and unrecoverable wireless disconnect with B43 driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/331952 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

You could try doubling it again, and maybe doubling the size of default- fragment-size-msec. [Bug 331952] Re: [HP 2133 MiniNote laptop] Unexpected and unrecoverable wireless disconnect with B43 driver
I'm no longer quite so sure it's a kernel issue -- I tried experimenting with different kernels to see if I could work out where the breakage occurred, but couldn't find a kernel that would make it work. First, I tried building a vanilla 2.6.28.8 with a config file from the ubuntu package. The issue was still there, meaning that it's not a problem with the ubuntu patches. Next, I was about to try building a 2.6.27 kernel when I realised I could just install the Intrepid deb, then further realised that the kernel was actually still on my system... Booting with that kernel and the Intrepid userspace worked, but with the Jaunty userspace it fails. While I don't know enough to say that there's definitely no kernel issue, it does look like it's a userspace change which has triggered the issue. Ben, looking again at your report, I'm not sure this will help you -- it seems that we have the same output in the logs, and the same result, but that the trigger for the wireless going down is different? -- [HP 2133 MiniNote laptop] Unexpected and unrecoverable wireless disconnect with B43 driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/331952 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 331952] Re: [HP 2133 MiniNote laptop] Unexpected and unrecoverable wireless disconnect with B43 driver
I'm also encountering this issue, with an upgrade to Jaunty that I ran yesterday. On my machine, the wireless seems to die if I shut the lid. When I open the lid again, I get these messages in /var/log/messages: Mar 21 15:57:58 artemis kernel: [ 2366.81] b43-phy0: Radio hardware status changed to DISABLED Mar 21 15:58:03 artemis kernel: [ 2370.940071] b43-phy0: Radio turned on by software Mar 21 15:58:03 artemis kernel: [ 2370.940086] b43-phy0: The hardware RF-kill button still turns the radio physically off. Press the button to turn it on. This seems to be the same issue, but manifesting slightly differently. I've got the UK variant of the HP2133. Everything worked fine in Intrepid. -- [HP 2133 MiniNote laptop] Unexpected and unrecoverable wireless disconnect with B43 driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/331952 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 282264] [NEW] IM state still to the side of standard applet when on a vertical panel

I'll attach a montage of screenshots. While the screenshots show the state of the applet while an IM program (in this case, empathy) is running, it's the same before running any IM program. ** Affects: fast-user-switch-applet (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- IM state still to the side of standard applet when on a vertical panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/282264 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
