Just an endnote to this. Asus released the 208 BIOS update a few days after I emailed them which fixes this issue. The only odd thing though is that I manually need to load the acpi-cpufreq module. I'm having the same problem with an Atheros PCMCIA 5212 A/B/G card too. If you tell network manager to connect to that network then it just seems to continue scanning anyway and doesn't connect (it's only a few meters from the AP). If you disable roaming and set it to use that AP manually (despite its distance from the AP only shows up as 46% strength) it stops scanning but still doesn't connect. Got a little carried away with the cats there didn't you :P Ok, this is a fresh install of Ubuntu 7.04 on the laptop. I've been through Gentoo and Debian on it too so that should give you some idea of how long I've been fighting it (and how many different configurations I've tried in that time too). Oh, another example of its slowness is the Ubuntu login screen. You actually get to watch it draw the tiles for the background and it takes a second or so to actually render the entire backdrop (the brown thing). Anyway, here are the files. If you spot anything obvious I wouldn't get your hopes up as I said I've tried lots of different things already and this is a bog standard new install now. Same here. MPlayer seems to be trying to play MP3 files as RAW Wave files for some bizzare reason (when it uses mp3lib). I can confirm this, I was trying to use it earlier and it's just... buggy as hell. It crashes almost at random (if you try and do anything) and one time actually took down Gnome-Panel with it.
