[Bug 78500] Re: gnome-control-center wipes out /home/user

2007-01-24 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
The same thing happened to me yesterday. After doing the following
steps, my home folder was wiped clean. On my system this is
reproduceable every time:

1) Start gnome-control-center (SystemControl Centre)

2) Right-click on an icon -it doesn't matter which one, you can choose
SCIM Input Method Setup, for example. On the context menu, select
Remove from Startup Programs.

3) After you've done that, you'll see that you cannot start any new
graphical applications -i.e. for example, if you start a new terminal,
it won't come up.

4) Logout as usual by pressing the button on the top right corner of the
gnome panel. You'll notice the Restart and Shut Down buttons are
missing. Choose Logout.

5) Log back in and realize in despair that your /home/folder has been
wiped clean and you're back to the ubuntu defaults. Bash history,
evolution mail, tomboy notes, etc all gone.

Regarding my system, it is an x86 (P2), which I've been continuously
upgrading (Breezy-Dapper-Edgy-Feisty) since I first started with
ubuntu. The way I did the upgrade from Edgy to Feisty was by using the
'update-manager'. Afterwards, I've always kept my system up to date with
either upgrading from synaptic or by 'sudo aptitude update sudo
aptitude dist-upgrade'. The currently installed version of gnome-
control-center is 1:2.17.90-0ubuntu1.

Let me know if you require more information, but as I said, at least on
my system, this is reproduceable every time.

[Bug 76011] Re: Keyboard Indicator applet does not show correct text after a second login

2007-01-18 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
So it's rather a xserver-xorg bug? How does this bug differ from bug
58083?

Well, I do not know whether the cause of the bug is the same as bug
58083, but the effect is definitely not the same. Just read the initial
bug descriptions.

I do not have enough knowledge of xserver-xorg to tell whether it comes
from there, but I'd rather think it might be a session thing, since the
bug only appears when logging off and back on again.

[Bug 75980] Clear Recent Documents clears only the list in the gnome panel but not other application's lists as expected

2006-12-16 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Using Edgy, after clicking on Clear Recent Documents under
PlacesRecent Documents, a dialog with a big fat warning comes up:

quote
If you clear the Recent Documents list, you clear the following:

• All items from the Places → Recent Documents menu item.
• All items from the recent documents list in all applications.
/quote

However, after confirming by pressing OK:

  1) All items from the Places → Recent Documents menu item are deleted as
expected.
  2) Items from the recent documents list in all applications are *NOT* deleted.

The behaviour described in 2) can easily be checked, for example, in
Totem or Eye Of GNOME, where after clearing all documents from the Gnome
Panel, the lists of recently opened documents in both programs remain
untouched. You can also see that in ~/.recently-used, all recent
documents are still listed there.

I would have expected some consistency here, either:

a) Clear all recent document lists from all applications from the entry
in the GNOME Panel as the pop up dialog says, or

b) Clear only the recent document list from the panel, leave the list on
each application untouched, but add a *working* Clear Recent Documents
option to each application. At the time of writing, and as an example,
the two cited apps (Totem and EOG) lack such an option.

Thanks.

[Bug 75980] Re: Clear Recent Documents clears only the list in the gnome panel but not other application's lists as expected

2006-12-16 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Is the recently used panel list cleared after restarting the panel?

Sebastien, thanks for your comment. As I said on the original post:

1) All items from the Places → Recent Documents menu item are deleted as
expected.

So there is no problem there, the list from the gnome panel is cleared.
The problem is in the applications' lists. I only took Totem and eog as
an example, but I don't know whether there are many other gnome
applications exhibiting this misbehaviour.

As I understand from your comment, the bug should not be a gnome-panel
bug but specific to each application where the recent document lists are
not cleared after executing PlacesRecent DocumentsClear Recent
Documents.

So I guess if the bug is fixed in Totem (Feisty) and there is already an
open bug for eog, this could be closed, couldn't it?

[Bug 66962] Re: Crash recovery loads twice the number of browser instances which originally crashed

2006-12-16 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Well, Epiphany does not seem to create a crash log under /var/crash as
other applications do.

The only thing I can say is that this is easily reproduceable whenever
I've got quite a full desktop, that is, lots of windows open in
different workspaces and different Epiphany windows with several tabs
also distributed in different workspaces.

Whenever I finish my session (i.e. turn off my computer) with such a
configuration and then I restart the session (turn on the computer),
Epiphany seems to always crash as described.

Then after the crash recovery dialog, each instance is loading twice,
the cpu load goes to 100%, etc, etc.

[Bug 76011] Keyboard Indicator applet does not show correct text after a second login

2006-12-16 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

Using Keyboard Indicator 2.16.1 from Edgy, my default layout is German
without deadkeys. This layout is always displayed on the notification
area with a two letter code, De.

However, if I logout from the GNOME session without turning off the
computer and then I log back in, the Keyboard Indicator applet will show
de nodeadkeys on the notification area instead of the usual De. This
also happens to the other layout I usually switch to (es Catalan).

One thing I might add is that I'm not sure whether the keyboard
indicator applet is the cause of the problem but rather a consequence of
a deeper problem. The reason I'm saying this is because whenever I get
the described behaviour, if I right-click on the applet and choose
Keyboard Preferences, I get a warning dialog with the following
message:

quote
Unable to start the settings manager 'gnome-settings-daemon'.
Without the GNOME settings manager running, some preferences may not take
effect. This could indicate a problem with Bonobo, or a non-GNOME (e.g. KDE)
settings manager may already be active and conflicting with the GNOME settings
manager.
/quote

However, after clicking OK to close the dialog, the keyboard preferences
are loaded as usual.

In any case, the gnome-settings daemon seems to be loaded, so I think it
might be that the keyboard indicator applet somehow cannot communicate
with it:

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ps -ef | grep gnome-settings

[Bug 60905] Re: [acx111] default firmware not working for acx d-link dwl-g650+

2006-12-05 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 30766 ***

As described in the following wiki, it should work in edgy.

Note that the wiki says it seems to work, not that it should. I
happen to be the one who wrote that, and chose the wording with caution,
since that statement is based on own experience (I own an acx11-based
DWL-G650+) and on posts from the ubuntu forums.

This bug is about the incorrect firmware being loaded at startup.

Your problem is that your wifi card (or the driver) is not functioning
properly I would rather post a separate bug for that, specifying
*exactly* what is not working.

A quick search on the forums seems to hint that such a card should be
working with the acx driver
(http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=278692highlight=Zyxel+G-360),
but have you checked that such card is supported by the driver?

[Bug 60341] Re: gnome-terminal window loses title

2006-12-02 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Well, I found what the cause of the problem is in my particular case. On
the following diff between /etc/skel/.bashrc and ~/.bashrc, which I
attached some days ago, the bug disappears when I uncomment the line:

PROMPT_COMMAND='history -a'

@@ -70,3 +70,13 @@
 if [ -f /etc/bash_completion ]; then
 . /etc/bash_completion
 fi
+
+# Append entries to the history file for each new shell

+# just before Bash displays a prompt. This appends the history entries
+# for all open shells
+PROMPT_COMMAND='history -a'
+
+# Export the local repository root
+export CVSROOT=/home/dpm/cvsrepo

After doing that, I no longer get a static Terminal title bar text,
but it gets updated with the output of the current command as expected.
So the vim thing was just a red herring, I believe.

What was happening, I think, was that on the initial launch of gnome-
terminal, the title bar was not being set and the Terminal default was
being used. When using vim, it set the titlebar text to the name of the
file being edited, and when exiting vim, the title bar was updated to
nothing.

So this is either a problem with bash or gnome-terminal, I think. But
considering that Santiago is using zsh and also experiencing this
problem, I'd be more inclined to think that this is a problem with
gnome-terminal.

IIRC, on Dapper gnome-terminal was not showing this problem. I might try
later on with a Dapper LiveCD if this was the case.

[Bug 60341] Re: gnome-terminal window loses title

2006-12-01 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
I can reproduce it on 2 computers. However, I've tried it on a third one
and I could not reproduce it.

I believe it definitely has to do with vim, since this only happens
after quitting it. Furthermore, on the comment I was saying that this
also happens when executing 'cvs ci', I forgot that I'm using vim as
$CVSEDITOR for commit log messages. Therefore, when commiting files on
cvs I do execute vim.

I've observed the following:

1.- When opening a gnome-terminal window, the titlebar reads Terminal
on the two computers where I can reproduce the bug. On the third (bug-
free) one however, the terminal titlebar shows [EMAIL PROTECTED]: /home/dpm,
where dpm is my user name and scenic the host name. Whenever I change
directory on this computer, the titlebar gets updated with the current
directory, which does not happen on the two other ones (It always stays
as Terminal).

2.- Copying .vimrc and the .vim folder from a computer where this bug
happens to the computer where this *not* happens has no effect. That is,
the bug is still not reproduceable there.

3.- I've got a root account enabled on one of the computers where the
bug happens. If I do a 'su -' and then execute vim from the root
account, the titlebar is not lost after executing vim. While being in
the root shell, the titlebar is updated with the current directory. When
exiting the root shell with CTRL+D, the titlebar remains frozen at the
last folder navigated from the root shell (e.g. [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~).

After what I've seen on 1.-, I'm a bit confused to what it could be.
Here's a short recap:

Computer Bug Initial title
  reproduceable?
-
-
#1 Yes Terminal (remains always like that)
#2 Yes Terminal (remains always like that)
#3 No user@host /home/user (the path
gets updated when doing 'cd')

Dynamically-set title: Replaces initial title.

[Bug 57872] Re: regression: pressing power button no longer brings up logout dialog

2006-11-29 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Re: regression: pressing power button no longer brings up logout dialog from
Oliver Grawert at 2006-10-10 21:53:42 CEST

 gnome-power-manager (2.16.1-0ubuntu2) edgy; urgency=low
.
   * fix 56-disable-session-save-on-shutdown.patch to not also disable the
logout dialog (why did that work in dapper with the same patch ?)
  (closes malone #57872)

If I understood it correctly, I believe I can answer this question. The
last gnome-power-manager in Dapper was 2.14.3-0ubuntu11. The package
sources contain the 96-disable-session-save-on-shutdown.patch patch.
This patch comments out (i.e. disables) the possibility of
unconditionally saving the gnome session during non-interactive
shutdown, but leaves the interactive shutdown part untouched.

Now the patch on the Edgy 2.16.1-0ubuntu1 sources was 56-disable-
session-save-on-shutdown.patch, which was a different one. This patch
disabled an unconditional session save during reboot, shutdown and it
also additionally (and erroneusly) disabled the interactive logout.

Now as already pointed out here, the 56-disable-session-save-on-
shutdown.patch in 2.16.1-0ubuntu3 has been corrected to allow the
interactive logout and thus close this bug.

Severity: important

when running sdiff in interactive mode (with -o option), it fails in the

[Bug 72446] pci.lst needs to be updated for the S3 ProSavageDDR K4M266 video chip

2006-11-19 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Public bug reported:

The S3 ProSavageDDR K4M266 (PCI device id 5333:8d01) is one of the
devices supported by the xorg 'savage' driver. However, the
/lib/discover/pci.lst from the discovery1-data package lists the kernel
module to load as 'unknown' instead of 'Server:XFree86(savage)', as it
should be.

This causes the video driver to fall back to 'vesa' upon discovery,
since as said before, there is no kernel module specified for this
device on /lib/discover/pci.lst.

I've got the 'savage' driver to work for this graphics chip on my system
by simply changing the 'vesa' line on /etc/X11/xorg.conf to 'savage'. A
side effect of the discovery of this device not working seems to be that
I also have to explicitly specify the hsync and vrefresh ranges of my
laptop's monitor in order to be able to work with the native 1024x768
resolution, whereas when detection works (i.e. edited pci.lst) the
native 1024x768 resolution works without having to specify any
particular hsync and vreferesh ranges in xorg.conf.

* Here's what needs to be done:

replace the following line on /lib/discover/pci.lst:

53338d01video unknown 86C380 [ProSavageDDR K4M266]

by:

53338d01video Server:XFree86(savage) 86C380 [ProSavageDDR
K4M266]

which simply means replacing 'unknown' by 'Server:XFree86(savage)'

* Additional info:

output of lspci for this chip:

[Bug 72446] Re: pci.lst needs to be updated for the S3 ProSavageDDR K4M266 video chip

2006-11-19 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
I just wanted to point out that I also tested this by booting with the
Edgy LiveCD, specifying

  break=break=casper-bottom

at the boot prompt, and then doing a:

  chroot /root nano /lib/discover/pci.lst

in order to correct the pci.lst entry for this device.

After doing this and finishing the boot process, the savage driver got
loaded as expected and the X server also worked as expected. Please also
find attached is the generated Xorg.0.log after doing this.

Thanks again to Tormod Volden for these instructions.

2006-11-19 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Tormod,

thanks again for your detailed comments.

1. I've attached my Xorg.0.log generated when no frequencies are
specified. This is the case where the 1024x768 resolution is not
available, only a maximum of 800x600.

2. I tried booting with the Edgy LiveCD as per your instructions and
discovery worked. The savage driver got correctly loaded and the
1024x768 resolution was available without any further configuration.

[Bug 60341] Re: gnome-terminal window loses title

2006-11-18 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Confirming. It happpens to me always after running vim as well. IIRC,
this seems to happen to me after running 'cvs ci' commands with cvsnt as
well.

Before executing vim, the gnome-terminal window title reads Terminal,
after exiting vim, it reads untitled window.

I'm running Edgy, using the 2.16.1-0ubuntu g-t version, and I had never
seen this behaviour in Dapper.

To me it happened on Edgy after upgrading from Dapper.

On both the Dapper and Edgy LiveCDs the savage driver did not even get
loaded and the vesa driver was used.

On Dapper that was ok, but on Edgy the vesa driver has become so
unbearably slow that it is not possible to work with it.

[Bug 72217] Missing verify data after burning functionality.

2006-11-17 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Public bug reported:

Currently, there is no way to tell from the GUI whether the data on a CD
or DVD was burned correctly, and therefore external tools have to be
used to perform the verification.

Many users do not know the existance or simply do not have the skills to
execute this external tools.

Verification of the written data is a very basic functionality which
IMHO oppinion every burning application should implement.

This leads to a very odd situation I've observed: many GNOME users have
a clean GNOME desktop with no other kde applications than k3b,
although GnomeBaker is great, stable and the default GNOME CD-burning
application. The point is, many of these users use k3b for the *sole*
reason that k3b *can* do data verification after burning and GnomeBaker
cannot.

Note that I'm not claiming this to be based on statistical information.
This is just a subjective observation.

Many thanks.

[Bug 64909] Re: Duplicate UUIDs after Edgy update

2006-11-01 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Philippe,

when did you do the upgrade?

As far as I understand from Scott's comment #4:

Migration script fixed to abort on discovering a duplicate UUID

this should not happen anymore. So if I understood it correctly, you
should not get a warning, but the migration script would detect that
there are duplicate UUIDs and leave /etc/fstab untouched (i.e. leave the
original /dev/hd* descriptors). Therefore you shouldn't run into
problems.

[Bug 66962] Re: Crash recovery loads twice the number of browser instances which originally crashed

2006-10-23 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
What version of Ubuntu do you use?
* I'm using Edgy.

How do you make it crash just before leaving your session? What do you call
 just before? 1 second? 10 seconds? 1min?
* I do not make it crash deliberately. I notice that epihany has crashed in
either of the two following ways:
a) when starting a new session and the desktop has been loaded, the crash
recovery dialog appears, asking me if I want to recover the previous browser
windows. So I assume that epiphany crashed on the previous session (I might be
wrong here).
b) when the session is ending (i.e. after having presed the QuitShutdown
button all windows closing, etc.), I see a dialog : the application epiphany
has crashed unexpectedly, which appears very briefly just before showing the
logout usplash.

This does not happen always, but I've noticed that it happens more
frequently when I've got many application windows open in several
workspaces before logging out.

Do you save your session automatically on logout?
* Yes.

Is epiphany listed by ~/.gnome2/session then?
These are the current contents of my ~/.gnome2/session file regarding epiphany
(I had a couple of epiphany instances running when leaving my last session
IIRC, but they did not crash):

[Bug 64909] Re: Duplicate UUIDs after Edgy update

2006-10-18 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Just edit /etc/fstab - the original device names are in the comment
above the UUID

I had done this from the start (see the original post), otherwise I
could have not booted up. Not only I had to edit /etc/fstab but also
/boot/grub/menu.lst, otherwise the wrong kernel would be loaded.

So from what I understand, once the UUID generation goes wrong, there is
no way to regenerate proper UUIDs and the only option is to forget the
UUIDs altogether and use /dev/hdXY. Is that right?

[Bug 64909] Duplicate UUIDs after Edgy update

2006-10-09 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Public bug reported:

After updating to Edgy, I realised I was not booting onto the right
partition, which lead to an unbootable system, until I noticed that
/etc/fstab had the same UUID for 2 different partitions. The solution
I've adopted so far is to remove the UUIDs and go back to the good ole
/dev/hd* descriptions.

Just a little background: the partitions affected by this are /dev/hda5
(where I did the upgrade to Edgy) and /dev/hda9 (where I had a copy of
my previous Dapper system). Before the upgrade, both partitions where
identical, since /dev/hda9 was simply a copy of /dev/hda5 I made with
gparted in case the upgrade went wrong. In this way I would still have
my old Dapper.

Anyway, here's the /etc/fstab generated after the upgrade to Edgy

did an 'ifdown wlan0' and an 'ifup wlan0'.

AFAIK, the beta livecd now loads the right firmware, so if I'm not
mistaken, there is no need for the /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist thing.

[Bug 62049] Re: GNOME session not saved when pressing the power button

2006-10-08 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Andrew,

Thank you for your comment, but:

1) The point of using the Shutdown setting is precisely because of
wanting to override the Interactive logout.

2) Choosing Interactive logout in g-p-m does still not work:

regression: pressing power button no longer brings up logout dialog
https://launchpad.net/bugs/57872

I would have guessed that when pressing the power button with the
Shutdown setting in g-p-m some script would have been executed to save
the gnome session before terminating all processes, but it is apparently
not so, so I'll keep investigating -any further information will be very
welcome.

So until this is fixed I will use the old (SystemQuit...Shutdown)
method to shut down my computer.

[Bug 48473] Re: Some drivers do not work with wpasupplicant, and therefore NM.

2006-10-04 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Does this issue still occur for anyone using Edgy?

Basically, what cards don't quite work with wpasupplicant yet?

Yes, this still happens in Edgy. If I understood it correctly, it is a
driver-related issue. On my particular case, I am using the open source
acx driver shipped in ubuntu and I am affected by this bug. I can
connect to a WEP network using iwconfig co., but I cannot connect with
network-manager (although n-m can scan networs and show their ESSIDs).

According to their webpage wpasupplicant has not yet been tested with
this driver:

[Bug 46314] Re: after recent update 3d acceleration with savage does not work

2006-10-03 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
I've just tested this patch, which I created by adapting the upstream
one (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=7041) to the current
edgy package (1:2.1.1-0ubuntu2).

The patch seems to fix the glxgears issue for me (now I can run glxgears
flawlessly) but since I do not use any other 3D applications on my
system, I cannot really tell if 3D acceleration overall is working 100%.

Could anyone else test this?

[Bug 63456] Re: Bug-buddy keeps reporting a crash and nautilus does not work

2006-10-02 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
After the latest kernel updates this morning (linux-
image-2.6.17-10-generic, 2.6.17-10-25):

a) Bug-buddy does not longer show up during the gnome session startup

b) The desktop is still not being properly loaded. As reported before,
there is no background image being loaded, and no context menu when
right-clicking on the desktop).

c) When starting a nautilus browser from a launcher, bug buddy comes up,
reporting a crash in the CD/DVD Creator application as before. After
filling in the description of the crash, I press the send button and I
get the following message (same as before):

Bug Buddy has encountered an error while submitting your report to the
Bugzilla server. Details of the error are included below.

The component specified doesn't exist or has been renamed. Please
upgrade to the latest version.

This time, at least, pressing the Close button really closes bug-buddy.

d) when starting nautilus from the terminal, I get the following output:

[Bug 62163] Re: Evolution doesn't open keyring when launched by a keybinding

2006-09-26 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
I can confirm this on my system with evolution 2.8.0-0ubuntu3 installed.

When launching Evo from ApplicationsInternetEvolution, it contacts the
gnome-keyring as expected, and the account passwords are read from the
keyring (i.e. Evolution prompts once for the password to unlock the
keyring).

However, when launching Evo from a keyboard shortcut set up under
SystemPreferencesKeyboard ShortcutsDesktopE-mail, it does not seem
to communicate with the gnome-keyring daemon, since it asks for the
password of each and every account upon startup.

The following binaries/links are on my system:

/usr/bin/evolution (symlink to /usr/bin/evolution-2.8)
/usr/bin/evolution (symlink to /usr/bin/evolution-2.8)
/usr/bin/evolution-2.8(Evolution 2.8.0 binary)

* The launcher under ApplicationsInternetEvolution Mail executes:
evolution --component=mail
This launcher works as expected.

* The launcher under ApplicationsOfficeEvolution Mail executes:
evolution-2.8
This launcher works as expected.

* A keyboard shortcut set up under SystemPreferencesKeyboard
ShortcutsDesktopE-mail seems to execute what's defined under
SystemPreferencesPreferred ApplicationsMail Reader. In my case, that is the
default Evolution command:
evolution %s
This is the launcher that doesn't work. As said before, when the keyboard
shortcut is pressed, Evolution starts but does not seem to communicate with the
keyring.

Changing the command to Custom and trying:
evolution --component=mail
or
evolution-2.8
does not help, either.

[Bug 60762] Re: can't use 1024x768 with savage driver in edgy (vrefresh out of range)

2006-09-25 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
I can sort of confirm this bug.

I have got an S3 Inc. 86C380 [ProSavageDDR K4M266] (rev 02), which
according to Xorg.0.log is a Twister PN133, Chip: id 8d01.

On a Dapper install, the savage driver was not used, but the vesa driver
was used instead. Now, with the upgrade to xorg 7.1.1 in edgy, the
slowness of vesa became unbearable, so I started using the savage driver
-which, BTWis also not loaded for my laptop when using Knot3, still vesa
is used.

Now when I started using the savage driver, the maximum resolution I
could use was 800x600, which on a 1024x768 laptop screen is not the
best, I have to say. All 1024x768 modes in Xorg.o.log were dropped
because of them being out of range

I got the driver to work at a 1024x768 resolution by explicitly
specifying hsync and vrefresh in xorg.conf:

VertRefresh 55-61
HorizSync31.5-80

What are your hsync and vrefresh ranges?

What do the Monitor and Device sections of your xorg.conf look like?

[Bug 46314] Re: after recent update 3d acceleration with savage does not work

2006-09-25 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
I can confirm this on my system, using an S3 Inc. 86C380 [ProSavageDDR
K4M266] (rev 02), which according to Xorg.0.log is a Twister PN133,
Chip: id 8d01.

After asking at the xorg mailing list, they directed me to the bug
Marcelo Shima was pointing out on his last comment.

I can also run glxinfo, but executing glxgears results in a black window
and 100% CPU usage.

So basically, it seems that the DRI locking was broken in the driver,
and that that has now been fixed upstream using the following patch:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=7041 (see the bug report
for more information)

on the panel at the top of the screen.

[Bug 61148] Re: edgy: Notification showing in the wrong place

2006-09-23 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
I can confirm this too on my system.

Furthermore, this notification at the bottom appears *on top* of the
panel, and thus obscuring the Workspace Switcher.

I do not know if this is specific to g-p-m, since I've also seen this
kind of notification when getting a warning that a partition is almost
full.

[Bug 62049] GNOME session not saved when pressing the power button

2006-09-23 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Public bug reported:

On the Power Management Preferences, when choosing Shutdown as the
action for When power button is pressed, the system shuts down as
expected after pressing the power button.

However, the gnome session is not saved [1]

On the other hand, when Quitting the system through the menus
(SystemQuit...Shutdown), the session is saved as expected.

[Bug 62064] Cancel button icons are not themed

2006-09-23 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Public bug reported:

The icon on the Cancel button of any dialog does not have a Human
icon, and the default GNOME cross icon is used instead.

It would be nice to have some consistency here, since normally the other
buttons next to Cancel are themed (e.g. the Apply button, see
screenshot)

has the Human icon.

[Bug 62066] gnome-screenshot Save dialog does not show text for the Desktop location

2006-09-23 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Public bug reported:

When saving a screenshot, the Save dialog pops up.

When showing the list of locations where the screenshot can be saved,
the Desktop entry has an icon, but no text (see attachment).

I'm not sure if this should also be reported to human-icon-theme, since
when using a different theme (e.g. Tango), the text is correctly shown.

[Bug 58721] Re: Matrox MGA200 doesn't work after upgrade from Dapper to Edgy

2006-09-21 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
While researching a bit about this, I found this couple of threads on
the xorg mailing list, which may be relevant to this bug.

http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.freedesktop.xorg/7169/
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.freedesktop.xorg/7146/
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.freedesktop.xorg/10483

BTW, as I said, I've been using mga over the framebuffer now. It is not
100% satisfactory speedwise (no direct rendering?), but still better
than using the vesa driver.

[Bug 61720] vesa driver extremely slow after upgrade from xorg 7.0.0 to 7.1.1

2006-09-21 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Public bug reported:

I've been using the vesa driver on my laptop without problems since
Breezy, the reason being that I cannot get the savage driver to work
properly with it.

However, after upgrading from Dapper to Edgy (i.e. from xorg 7.0.0 to
xorg 7.1.1) the vesa driver has become unbearably slow.

Dragging windows causes a constant and very noticeably repaint of the
window, but the worst part is when using scroll bars, on which the
constant repaint makes it nearly impossible to browse internet pages.

See this comment on the xorg mailing list, which also refers to this
issue:

http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg/2006-September/018036.html

Thanks.

[Bug 61493] Wrong notification area displayed on startup

2006-09-20 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Public bug reported:

After booting, g-p-m displays a wrong notification area icon, which does
not provide any information about the battery status (see atached
screenshots). This happens both when booting with AC and without.

This icon remains unchanged throughout the session, and the only way to
get the proper status icon to show up is to either plug or unplug the AC
adapter, or when the battery status goes from charging to fully charged.
After that, the notification icon shows the battery status as expected.
