[Bug 485707] Re: package libchm1 2:0.39-9 [modified: /var/lib/dpkg/info/libchm1.list] failed to install/upgrade: fork failed: Cannot allocate memory

2009-11-21 Thread Daily Struggle
This bug should be turned into a FAQ

Date: Fri, 20 Nov 2009 21:55:07 +1100
From: John Mills
Subject: suggestion: docs on closing bugs
To: ubuntu-...@lists.ubuntu.com

Content-Type: text/plain

I had a problem with an aptitude install of gnochm.
The crash notifier took me to Launchpad where I filed it as a bug.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chmlib/+bug/485707

Synaptic and aptitude subsequently resolved the problem.
(I probably should have tried that before continuing with the bug.)

Anyway, I looked for docs (but couldn't find any) on how to close the
bug in a meaningful way (Invalid? FixReleased?).
A few notes on that might help others who find issues which resolve
themselves.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DocumentationTeam/Contact led me to believe this
would be an appropriate address to send this suggestion to.
If not, I apologize.

John Mills

Yes I did. Unfortunately I had to downgrade software system because of grub bug.
Getting back up to same state and making sure one package at a time is
installed correct.

I had a serious issue a discussed in testcase I know not very in depth.
But either way I am building state again but with manual not automatic

[Bug 466711] Re: dvd unmounts when attempting erase(wipe) or write

2009-11-11 Thread Daily Struggle
Yes

Put dvd in drive

SOMETIMES it happens sometimes it may unmount in the middle of something else
like write or wipe
but does not mess up write
but wipe makes dvd RW unusable(not the disk, RW works fine in windows)

my 2 cents
may be notify related

I really don't know the root issue

[Bug 462618] Re: pop in sound under pulseaudio 0.9.19

2009-11-09 Thread Daily Struggle
I believe this may have something to do with the way alsa and pulse work
together or the way pulse amplification works with alsa. I previous builds when
pulse removed sound did not have the same issue.
This is still existent even w/ new sound card and proper driver.
In 9.10 though if pulse is removed the gnome-volume control will not work.

[Bug 466711] Re: dvd unmounts when attempting erase(wipe) or write

2009-11-09 Thread Daily Struggle
This is still happening everytime I plug in an external device like a camera or
also as stated when I insert a dvd to write
a message will pop up on desktop that device is unmounted/mounted/unmounted
randomly
But it was noticed at first when I went to write the iso to dvd.
This (even though the message appears) does not have any effect on the write
but it does make a dvd useless on a wipe even though dvd RW

[Bug 476781] Re: User can't authenticate via PolicyKit after using 'resume normal boot' friendly-recovery mode option

2009-11-07 Thread Daily Struggle
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 459376 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/459376

This is not a bug with auth because upstart will not load gdm, so level
is same, as per sudo init.d command is controlled by upstart, so this is
either a bug against the commands coming off the friendly-recovery
(which might be if they were assuming instruction as per
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RecoveryMode)

But that bug (friendly-
recovery)https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/friendly-
recovery/+bug/459376 is said to be caused by caused by

script
...
# Check kernel command-line for inhibitors
for ARG in $(cat /proc/cmdline)
do
case "${ARG}" in
text|-s|s|S|single)
exit 0
;;
esac
done
...
end script

or

APT::Update::Post-Invoke-Success:: "[ ! -f

--dest=org.freedesktop.PackageKit --type=method_call
/org/freedesktop/PackageKit org.freedesktop.PackageKit.StateHasChanged
string:'cache-update'";

in which reported previously in bug
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/436936 describes
the same bug in source

# Check kernel command-line for inhibitors
for ARG in $(cat /proc/cmdline)
do

case "${ARG}" in
text|-s|s|S|single)
exit 0
;;
esac

because when you load recovery the upstart will not release as per line
and gdm will not auth because previous state no load

menu(friendly recovery), upstart gdm command or upstart seem to be where
the issue is. because the gdm-auth would just be part of the loaded
level.

what the command is startx/etc/int.d is controlled by upstart it
will not take

And about my writing style versus yours please do not correct me any more. I
have a different writing style.
I don't know I may eat something different also. Who really cares as long as
the point can get across.

I am sorry if this seems like a public lashing , I am just trying to get a
point across regarding the matter at hand.

[Bug 476781] Re: Can't authenticate via PolicyKit after using 'resume normal boot' recovery mode option

2009-11-07 Thread Daily Struggle
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 459376 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/459376

~And yet again I get a lecture~

I have reported this bug and acted cordially during our conversation.

The method you use to use to converse probably discourages users from reporting
bugs
as it sounds more like reprimand than conversation.

The method you give as diagnostic would not prove nor diagnose this bug.

as stated before this looks similar to Bug #459376 and I will mark as a
dupe of that bug

[Bug 476781] Re: gnome user admin not working when using from grub recovery mode boot normal login and command startx

2009-11-07 Thread Daily Struggle
The title explains how to reproduce the same results. I guess I should have
written the title
gnome user-admin not working when using from grub recovery mode boot normal
login and command startx

Steps to reproduce
start computer
press escape when grub is loading
choose any of the (recocvery mode) choices
when recovery menu comes up choose "Boot Normally"
machine login will appear
key in username press enter
key in password press enter
key in sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start
Desktop Loads
In Menu System> Administration open Users and Groups (unlock not available)

workaround
from the previous steps
Desktop Loads
Open terminal
gdm restart
or sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart
Desktop Loads
In Menu System> Administration open Users and Groups (unlock available)

You act very unprofessional in your replies
https://edge.launchpad.net/~nalimilan. I do not understand why.

[Bug 459081] Re: Desktop Couch user authentication creates multiple keys for ubuntuone client applet

2009-11-04 Thread Daily Struggle
I have stopped using the ubuntuone software because it is not built correctly
in another ticket I have explained that this service is constantly attempting
resync/sync and searches for drives which is incorrect
constantly in top every 1-2 seconds even if user not connected
this even happens if service on startup is not selected
also when theprefences>> bandwidth is adjusted settings do not save
all the issues seem to lead me to the understanding that the program must
capture too much of the local system resources to run and/or is not build
correct for 64bit systems

[Bug 466711] [NEW] dvd unmounts when attempting erase(wipe) or write

2009-10-31 Thread Daily Struggle
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: util-linux

put in a disk to write Ubuntu 9.10 to and mounts auto then use disk wipe for
erase and unmounts disk before wiping
also disk after wipe was trash could not be seen these are dvd rw disks
insert another to write dvd iso to and select iso but before it starts writing
again it unmounts and stays unmounted while writing
this has not been seen previously (at least not the dialog of it doing it)
dvd did write correctly but the mount/unmount seems to have issues
I also noticed this when I select eject(right click menu option) does not
unmount but does eject (different than before)

[Bug 462618] Re: pop in sound under pulseaudio 0.9.19

2009-10-28 Thread Daily Struggle
this may be associated with gnome-volume-control as it is where hardware
settings have no option for the 6 or 8 channel option under the profile drop
menu
I do notice that the pop seems to be lessened if custom sound effects are
chosen i.e.-sonar,drip,bark
but that has no effect on the recording issues that did not previously exist
without pulse

[Bug 462618] [NEW] pop in sound under pulseaudio 0.9.19

2009-10-28 Thread Daily Struggle
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

when windows open or close I hear a pop in my speakers also hear a pop when
recording using mic and recordmydesktop
aside from pop totem plays sound fine but the audio is sometimes broken(half a
word missing or words mashed together in recording)when video upload to youtube
it becomes more apparent it sounds like something runnning a slight echo loop
so audio will sound fine then bad then fine again randomly
also alsamixer controls not built in to sound preferences command must be done
manually
8 channel sound option not available in sound preference it is in alsamixer
in sound preferences I must use the analog stereo duplex profile for mic to
capture and sound play
in previous build 9.04 I removed pulseaudio and compiled the driver and it
worked without issue mic clear line in option clear
does this need to be removed for ALC888 to work proper
I do not see the proper setup to achieve the previous results and do not wish
damage to audio chip

the system updated again and menu now works with arrow keys but udf firewall
message on top of boot normal

This may be caused by another issue in splashscreen because I do see a message

which goes away and brings up x gnome login screen

[Bug 461056] [NEW] grub will not load maintenance menu correctly

2009-10-26 Thread Daily Struggle
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mountall

https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub/+bug/460830 is this bug but
it affect both the grub because the recovery option has to be chosen to see the
error even though the actual bug may be with mountall
and https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+source/mountall/+bug/458060
says that this was fixed
now
boot normal brings maintenance prompt that does not allow login with user
password for only account on machine

[Bug 458060] Re: recovery boot does not load OS

2009-10-22 Thread Daily Struggle
this happens when option recovery from grub for current kernel is chosen
checked for broken packages worked fine
upgraded 14 packages mainly compiz but one was mountall? and all that seemed
normal
updated grub boot loader no issue
then when option BOOT normal is chosen it comes to a system maintenance prompt
that does not recognise user and password and also times out after 60 seconds
This is the Beta grub I believe??
