[Bug 969860] Re: fglrx uses 100% CPU when screen turns off (spinning in glXWaitVideoSyncSGI or glXSwapBuffers)

2012-07-12 Thread Derek Chen-Becker
Here's my stack trace. dstack kept hanging, so I just ran gdb manually.
This appears to be the same bug, but the workarounds don't help. This is
a:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI
Manhattan [Mobility Radeon HD 5430 Series]

And the ioctl that loops is

ioctl(13, 0xc00c645c, 0x7fff5a9fde00) = 0

Where 13 is /dev/ati/card0. fglrx is 2:8.960-0ubuntu1, x86_64, Ubuntu
12.04

[Bug 1000367] Re: Incorrect workspace after moving a window by ctrl+shift+alt+arrow in a multimonitor setup

2012-07-08 Thread Derek Chen-Becker
Same here. If I put a window in a workspace other than the first one and
then switch between workspaces, the window will always move back to the
first workspace. This is on a custom desktop with Ubuntu 12.04 x86_64,
ATI Radeon HD 5430 +fglrx 8.960. This worked fine in 11.10 which I just
upgraded from.

[Bug 988138] Re: Iagno hangs every game or two in Ubuntu 12.04, is very slow to take AI turns, crashes, loops sounds and gives wrong score in the end. Worked fine in 11.10

2012-07-05 Thread Derek
So, interestingly, when it closes suddenly without being prompted for an
error report, it seems to be when the AI has a piece left, and he cannot
capture anything and I can't capture his piece.

At that point, boom. No more game window. Probably a crash although I
haven't checked it in GDB.

Anyway. Just one more thing in this overall broken version.
Revert to previous version!

2012-06-24 Thread Derek
So. Yeah, the AI is quite a bit dumber, but here's another score that was
entertaining to post.
Final stats.
Light: Human
Dark: AI
Dark: 20
Light: 13

Light player wins!

Yes, the message contradicts the score :)
(actual score on the board was Dark: 0 Light: 38 - AI didn't move for like 7
years or so)

And, yeah, Iagno still regularly crashes, although trying to search for
it on errors.ubuntu.com doesn't seem to work.

Hm. One reason it might not show up on errors.ubuntu.com is that it just
crashed on me 4 times in the past half hour, and only one of them popped
up an error report.

[Bug 988138] Re: Iagno hangs every game or two in Ubuntu 12.04, is very slow to take AI turns, crashes, loops sounds and gives wrong score in the end. Worked fine in 11.10

2012-06-17 Thread Derek
So, it looks like the reason the score is so wildly off on some games
(07-32 instead of 00-42 in last game) is that the score is only updated
when the AI captures. In this case, I made 7 moves, he made one, then I
made 3 more.

For those 10 moves I made, the score did not budge.

Someone really broke this game. IMO it should be reverted to whatever it
was in the last release.

BTW, the not opening a second window thing seems to impact some other
games too. Tetravex for example has that problem. Klotski does not.

If this adds any info at all, it still happens after having moved to the
MATE window manager (which is awesome btw).

Oh. Also, the incorrect scores are a little odd in just how far off they
are.

I won 0-44 but the score is 13-27 - also odd in that I only captured 4
on the last turn.

2012-06-16 Thread Derek
Oh. One thing that *is* different in MATE is that I can't open a 2nd window of
Iagno as I could in the past in Gnome 2. If I launch Iagno from the window
manager or commandline and there is already one instance of the program
launched, it exits immediately.
This obviously leaves an empty loading window for a little while in MATE.

This does work in Unity which makes me wonder if the overall brokenness
might be related to some change in Iagno itself. Some sort of
client/server change that was intended to make it work w/ the new window
management, and broke things entirely.

A nice idea would combine the current tile alignment functionality with
smooth scrolling. Think overshoot bounce on android phones.

[Bug 384622] Re: When a CDMA connection is established, the notify-osd bubble flashes several times before settling.

2012-05-28 Thread Derek White
I no longer have access to a CDMA USB device and no other connection
types were producing this behaviour. As such, I have not observed the
issue in some time.

[Bug 988138] Re: Iagno hangs every game or two in Ubuntu 12.04, is very slow to take AI turns, crashes, loops sounds and gives wrong score in the end. Worked fine in 11.10

2012-05-25 Thread Derek
Found another interesting symptom. After the usual lag and darkening
window when AI was trying to move, I took a turn. It hung a bit, and
after the turn, instead of my move having been taken, the AI had taken a
move instead and the entire row was the AI colour. I hit undo a few
times, and the pattern of play did not match the last few moves we'd
taken.

Rally feels like someone added buggy threading in this version.
Guess I'd need to find out 'sactly what version of Iagno Ubuntu is using and if
any changes were made to it.

[Bug 1000272] Re: Eclipse crashes at startup in Ubuntu 12.04

2012-05-23 Thread Derek
I completely uninstalled eclipse, I then ran locate to find all eclipse files
(besides the dpkg stuff) and blew them away.
I removed ~/.eclipse as well.

I then launched eclipse once more.
Same error.

I tried sudo eclipse in desperation as mentioned in the thread. Didn't
help, didn't do anything apart from cluttering up /usr w/ config stuff.
Nor did starting eclipse as a user after trying sudo.

For whatever info it might provide, attaching the log from the most
recent fail (they are all identical).

2012-05-23 Thread Derek
TLDR: dpkg -P libswt-gtk-3.5-java libswt-gtk-3.5-jni fixed (plus clean
uninstall/reinstall and precautionary clearing of ~/.eclipse)

Standard Widget Toolkit for GTK+ Java library
14:47 nemo that bad?
14:48 nthykier Could be; which alternative is providing
/usr/share/java/swt.jar ? (ls -l /etc/alternatives/swt.jar should do)
14:48 nemo lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 31 Nov 9 2010 /etc/alternatives/swt.jar

14:49 nemo huh. alternatives does libs too? I would think those symlinks
would be in /usr/lib
14:49 nthykier I am not entirely sure what is up with that use of
alternatives, but personally I do not like it
14:50 nthykier It also caused bugs like #670756
14:50 nthykier try to uninstall the old swt (or update the alternative to
point to the new version), purge ~/.eclipse and restart
14:52 nemo hm
14:52 nemo not really too sure how to do either...
14:52 nemo ~/.eclipse has been purged many times already :)
14:52 nemo when I check synaptic, only one version of swt-gtk is listed as

14:52 nthykier dpkg -P libswt-gtk-3.5-java libswt-gtk-3.5-jni will purge

[Bug 896709] Re: Unity - selecting instances of a minimised application is not intuitive or simple

2012-05-14 Thread Derek Karpinski
The windows 7 task bar really gets this right. I love seeing previews
of any windows I have, minimized or not, when I hover over the tile in
the task bar. If Unity could implement that, we'd have a winner. The
fact that windows brings that window to focus just by hovering, even
switching tabs in a browser is icing on the cake. I'm in full support
of where unity is going, and enjoy using it in most cases, but this case
is awkward at best for unity's handling of minimized windows.

[Bug 988138] Re: Iagno hangs every game or two in Ubuntu 12.04. Pulse Audio related?

2012-05-08 Thread Derek
So. I don't think it has anything to do with pulseaudio, since it hangs and the
window greys out even with sound completely disabled.
I haven't gotten it to completely lock up though, so it could be that it only
actually crashes if it is trying to play sounds when it locks.

As for Tha's AI theory - maybe? But it probably means someone really
screwed up something that worked great in 11.10 - perhaps related to
adding that annoying top message area that makes the game area resize.

[Bug 988138] Re: Iagno hangs every game or two in Ubuntu 12.04. Pulse Audio related?

2012-05-08 Thread Derek
Another hilarious way that Iagno is now screwed up.
I just finished a game, after many freezes and delays.

Keep in mind this is only against the level 1 AI. And yet it still
crawls along and frequently hangs when it used to respond almost
instantly. Nonetheless it seems as dumb as ever or even dumber, so if
anything was done to the AI it made it worse.

Anyway. On to the amusingness.
After winning it gives the score:
Dark (AI): 06 Light (me): 57

Actual score?
Dark (AI): 04 Light (me): 60

[Bug 988138] Re: Iagno hangs every game or two in Ubuntu 12.04

2012-04-27 Thread Derek
Tested in non-2D Unity, lag still happens.
Can get so bad that the window greys out just because the AI is thinking.

Did they remove an AI thread, or did the AI get a lot dumber?
It used to be even level 3 AI on this computer completed almost instantly.

Anyway it hung, looped music, and crashed in Unity as well.

It does seem to be Pulse Audio related.

** Summary changed:

- Iagno hangs every game or two in Ubuntu 12.04
+ Iagno hangs every game or two in Ubuntu 12.04. Pulse Audio related?

[Bug 903006] Re: Will not do automatic updates in 11.10 because ttf-wqy-zenhei will not authenticate.

2012-04-24 Thread Derek
I'd just like to note hedgewars *does* bundle ttf-wqy-zenhei

I suppose someone stripped it out of Data and made it a dependency.
That could just be reversed if there's some repo issue...

[Bug 988138] [NEW] Iagno hangs every game or two in Ubuntu 12.04

2012-04-24 Thread Derek
Public bug reported:

Following is spammed to ~/.xsession-errors - might be related.

** (iagno:30066): CRITICAL **: computer_player_move: assertion `self !=
NULL' failed

Once it hangs, if it is playing sounds of pieces, those loop indefinitely.
You can't close it using the X in the app window, or quit in the left Unity 2D
bar.

You have to open a terminal and issue a kill.

After the kill, this is spammed to .xsession-errors.

unity-2d-shell: [WARNING]
QDBusError(org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod, No such
interface `org.ayatana.bamf.application' on object at path
/org/ayatana/bamf/application890181547)

Also, I really really dislike the new error message that shows up on
illegal moves. I assume that used to be in the footer of the app
window, I can't recall. All I know is that every time it shows up, the
playing area shrinks slightly, which is really distracting.

Oh, also, the application seems to be overall much more sluggish than in
the prior release.

Update: As far as I can tell the patched kernel works with respect to
this particular bug; I just can't use it because the board seems to lock
up (for presumably unrelated reasons) when I leave it running overnight.
no output on the serial console even, just stops responding and has to
be reset.

I tested the omap4 kernel deb on a pandaboard running Oneiric; it
boots, and the small reproducer we have seems to work. I've started up
our full bot suite on it, will let you know.

[Bug 940603] Re: white box randomly shows up at top left corner blocking applications from using stuff under it

2012-03-26 Thread Derek Monner
I lost a video card over the weekend, so unfortunately I can't test the
proposed fix of disabling and re-enabling the Animations plugin.
However, I can provide my CCSM configuration related to the Animations
plugin, which I've attached. It was generated with `gconftool-2 -R
/apps/compizconfig-1/profiles/unity/plugins/animation`. With this
configuration, I *do* have the white-box problem. Tibi or Ralf, could
you compare this to your configuration after applying the fix and see if
there are any differences?

** Attachment added: Compiz configuration of the Animations plugin before the
proposed fix is applied.

[Bug 940603] Re: white box randomly shows up at top left corner blocking applications from using stuff under it

2012-03-23 Thread Derek Monner
I'm on Oneiric with all the -proposed updates, and I've been seeing this
issue for a month or longer, but I don't use any apps that do HTML5
notifications. The main time I seem to see these white boxes pop up is
when clicking links from another app (e.g. pidgin, hotot) that open in
chrome. Also the pages that cause it mostly seem to have Flash embeds.
Unfortunately it hasn't been 100% reproducible with any given link.

[Bug 940603] Re: white box randomly shows up at top left corner blocking applications from using stuff under it

2012-03-23 Thread Derek Monner
One more thing: I'll second the observation that the size of the white
box seems related to the size of the window being opened. Others have
reported that, when the box is caused by an HTML5 notification, it is
the same size as that notification's normal window. When I see white
boxes pop up after opening an external link in chrome, the box is the
same size as the chrome window currently is.

[Bug 852603] Re: hedgewars 0.9.17 can not engage in network play with current release

2012-03-21 Thread Derek
WRT comment #34 - aye. I do not have 10.10 or 11.04 on any machine over here.
I suppose I could set it up in a VM, but that hardly seems like a good test for
an OpenGL game.

As noted in comment #32, several people who I linked directly to the
.deb s under proposed reported they worked fine for them, but
unfortunately, none of them have commented in the thread. I suppose it
is doomed to remain in proposed forever.

[Bug 852603] Re: hedgewars 0.9.17 can not engage in network play with current release

2012-03-21 Thread Derek
I'd also like to note that despite my pleading, none of the players who
confirmed 0.9.17 worked for them in 10.10 ever posted in here.

And there are quite a few people on 10.10 out of a desire to avoid Unity
(understandable).

Here is the most recent one from today.
19:15 Judeau hello
19:16 Judeau when i connect to the Hedgewar server to play online, there are
no rooms to join, is it normal?
19:16 Forty-3 Judeau: sometimes no one is playing
19:16 Forty-3 I can check
[ note, there were over 70 players, all running 0.9.17 ]
19:17 Forty-3 Judeau: there are rooms
19:17 Judeau ok
19:17 Forty-3 what server are you using?
19:17 Judeau i'm not using the last version
19:17 Forty-3 that would be it
19:17 Judeau thanks
19:17 Forty-3 whenever a new version is released, it breaks compatability
with the old one
19:18 Forty-3 greab the latest version, and you shlould be good to go
19:18 Forty-3 *should
19:19 Judeau i see, i tried to install but as i am using ubuntu 10.10, i got
some problems
19:19 Judeau i will try again
19:19 Judeau thank you

I urge you guys to consider stabilising 0.9.17 in 10.10.
Thanks!

[Bug 852603] Re: hedgewars 0.9.17 can not engage in network play with current release

2012-03-06 Thread Derek
So, someone on the forum decided to make an LTS 0.9.17 as well.

http://hedgewars.org/node/3600

I obviously have no idea whatsoever if it is trustworthy and have not installed
it myself, nor do I have any plans to.
While the LTS version clearly is non-functional w/ online play, I don't really
think people should consider LTS if they are gamers.

[Bug 946835] [NEW] Downloads never show as completed in Downloads window when main firefox windows is closed.

2012-03-04 Thread Derek White
Public bug reported:

Open firefox.
Start a file download.
Open the Downloads window.
Close the main Firefox window.
Wait for the download to complete.

What I expected to happen:
When the file completes, the Downloads window entry for the file should
update to acknowledge that it is complete.

What happens instead:
The *.part file is copied to the final location. The file has completed
downloading. The Downloads window entry does not show the file has completed.
It remains this way indefinately. If I Clear List or manually clear the
entry, everything is fine.

So, the Downloads window UI seems to get stuck at the end of the process
when the main Firefox window has been shutdown.

This has occured for about the last 3 years on different installations
and versions of both Ubuntu and Firefox.

[Bug 894132] Re: unity does not start using xinerama and multi-monitor

Hi, I can confirm I have this problem using two AMD cards on a triple

Unity_2d session works and running 'unity --reset' does not render the
3d version of unity and the display results in broken windows. I've
attached the log (run_unity_reset.log)

[Bug 938920] Re: Logo Status Notification over SSH

2012-02-26 Thread Derek Morton
Using UTF8=0 did not fix the issue.

Couple more tidbits I've picked up on this:
1) The network status notification also exhibits the same behavior (Bug title
updated slightly)
2) The issues are isolated to the tmux backend. Switching the backend to screen
also causes the issues not to occur

** Summary changed:

- Logo Status Notification over SSH

[Bug 938920] [NEW] Logo Status Notification over SSH

2012-02-22 Thread Derek Morton
Public bug reported:

Version info:
byobu -v
byobu version 5.13
tmux 1.6

Issue: Byobu over SSH with the Logo status notification enabled causes a
new byobu status notification bar to be created one on top of another.

Screenshots:
Normal: http://www.screencast.com/t/kahBvULyC
Broken: http://www.screencast.com/t/aXFJHk72vT0W

Steps to reproduce:
1) Login via SSH
2) Run byobu with logo notification enabled (default)

Workaround:
1) Disable the logo status notification, either by the byobu-config menu or
manually editing the ~/.byobu/status file

Only SSH sessions/clients seem to be effected by this. Using byobu from
tty1 does not cause this issue.

The two SSH clients used were SecureCRT 6.74 and PuTTY 0.6.2, both on a
Windows 7 x64 host.

** Affects: byobu (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

2011-12-15 Thread Derek
Hey. Just FYI...
Not sure about image packaging but I noticed in comment #3 that you are
unpacking the mac icon.
If at any point:
http://hedgewars.googlecode.com/hg/misc/hedgewars.png

was 32px, that was an accident.
It is back to 512px now.

Another image you could use is:
http://hedgewars.googlecode.com/hg/share/hedgewars/Data/Graphics/hedgehog.svg

I'm not totally sure why that isn't under /misc/ p'raps we should move
it...

[Bug 793401] Re: Network Manager says Wireless is disabled, using Broadcom 0576 (rev 01) .

2011-12-10 Thread Derek Shute
Not sure whether same bug or not.
Just upgraded to Natty after delaying as long as possible. Everything works
except wireless connection. I've checked all settings - all OK. I've then run
Checkbox - reprts attached. I then tried removing Broadcom STA and running -
no luck. Reactivating Broadcom STA - no luck. Various combinations of
rebooting along the way. It was working perfectly before - obviously because I
was able to download Natty.

I am not as clued in as you guys, but please, please, please help.

Would it be easy to revert to an earlier Ubuntu - how would I do that ?

[Bug 867850] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in magazine_chain_pop_head()

2011-12-08 Thread Derek
So. I'm getting gnome-shell crashing quite a lot, like, once every 5 minutes or
so.
I haven't added any debug symbols yet, but I ran into your bug while looking
for pango_layout_get_iter which is apparently where I'm crashing.
http://m8y.org/tmp/gnome-shell-fail.txt

#0 0x7f9e384430a8 in g_slice_alloc () from
/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libglib-2.0.so.0
#1 0x7f9e339b8d2a in pango_layout_get_iter () from
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpango-1.0.so.0
#2 0x7f9e31252a11 in cogl_pango_ensure_glyph_cache_for_layout () from
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcogl-pango.so.0

Since those 3 match, I'm hoping problem is same.
Also on ATI - using fglrx 8.90.5

[Bug 862748] Re: hedgewars crashed with SIGFPE in Mix_FadeInMusicPos()

2011-12-01 Thread Derek
Taneli, please try this ini file
http://m8y.org/tmp/hedgewars.ini

The options you set disable the sound in-game, not in the Qt frontend.

Your error is typical of SDL failing to initialise the sound system.
One reason for that might be due to conflicting sound systems and a card that
does not support software mixing.
Another possibility I guess is multiple users (same issue).

Er. A card that does not support *hardware* mixing.

Anyway. Same point :)

[Bug 891852] Re: Unusable IP Information table and partial obstruction of Ping tab.

2011-11-23 Thread Derek White
Bug has been updated.

In addition, I left a note on Bug #856387 to let them know the table on
the Ping tab is affected too.

** Attachment removed: Devices tab

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-nettool/+bug/891852/+attachment/2600236/+files/gnome-nettool-devices.png

** Summary changed:

- Unusable IP Information table and partial obstruction of Ping tab.
+ Network Tools: Obstruction of Ping tab contents.

** Description changed:

- The Devices' tab's IP Information table has only about 10px worth of
- viewing space - making the window larger does not make the table bigger.
- It is completely unusable.
-
- Additionally, the default window size (which is not remembered between
- launches) does not allow for the Ping tab's graph to be fully displayed
- - even the legend gets cut off, let alone the graph it self. The Details
- table also suffers the same issue as described above on the Devices tab.
+ The default window size (which is not remembered between launches) does
+ not allow for the Ping tab's graph to be fully displayed - even the
+ legend gets cut off, let alone the graph it self. The Details table also
+ suffers the same issue as described in Bug #856387 (table on the
+ Devices tab).

[Bug 852603] Re: hedgewars 0.9.17 can not engage in network play with current release

2011-11-21 Thread Derek
Yeah, the haskell thing isn't that important. Some distros have never
included the server piece. Gentoo for example, since most people just
play on the public server.

It's a nice to have, but only necessary for LAN play.
