[Bug 1502263] Re: Shutter does not work in Wayland

2018-07-05 Thread Edmund Laugasson
Would like to mention that under Ubuntu 18.04 LTS you would also see a
black screen, especially if you apply that workaround
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libgoo-canvas-
perl/+bug/1765726/comments/45) in order to get editing to work... At the
same time e.g. under Linux Mint 19 MATE (Ubuntu 18.04 LTS) all worked as
expected.

[Bug 1765726] Re: Optional dependencies are missing for Shutter in Ubuntu 18.04

2018-07-05 Thread Edmund Laugasson
Have to mention that under Ubuntu 18.04 LTS that workaround still is
problematic as there will be only black screen and cannot do
screenshots. Editing works but useless as whole program is rendering to
useless state as there will be black screen. Tested also under Linux
Mint 19 MATE (based on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS) and there worked as expected
and also system tray icon is there. MATE is basically GNOME2 so you need
to hack the applet in order to see system tray icon under GNOME3.

Workaround
--
Download and install following Ubuntu 17.10 packages

libgoocanvas-common
https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=libgoocanvas-common=names=all=all
https://packages.ubuntu.com/artful/all/libgoocanvas-common/download

libgoocanvas3
https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=all=all=any=libgoocanvas3=names
https://packages.ubuntu.com/artful/libgoocanvas3

libgoo-canvas-perl
https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=all=all=any=libgoo-canvas-perl=names
https://packages.ubuntu.com/artful/libgoo-canvas-perl

Later install dependencies:
sudo dpkg -i *.deb && sudo apt install -f -y && sudo apt clean

Close Shutter that is probably running in background:
killall shutter 2>/dev/null

Start Shutter again.

All-in-one:
mkdir -p ~/shutter/ && cd ~/shutter/ && wget
http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/g/goocanvas/libgoocanvas-common_1.0.0-1_all.deb

http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/g/goocanvas/libgoocanvas3_1.0.0-1_amd64.deb

http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/libg/libgoo-canvas-perl/libgoo-canvas-perl_0.06-2ubuntu3_amd64.deb
 && sudo dpkg -i *.deb && sudo apt install -f -y && sudo apt clean && cd && rm
-rf ~/shutter/ && killall shutter 2>/dev/null

[Bug 1765726] Re: Optional dependencies are missing for Shutter in Ubuntu 18.04

2018-07-05 Thread Edmund Laugasson
In Ubuntu 18.04 LTS the repository
https://launchpad.net/~shutter/+archive/ubuntu/ppa cannot be used as
there are newest packages already in main Ubuntu repositories
(universe/graphics). The editing requirement package libgoo-canvas-perl
exist in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS but not in 18.04 LTS. There in Ubuntu 18.04
LTS is already the package libgoocanvas2-perl but this did not help as
Shutter 0.94 does not recognize that package and "Edit" button is greyed
out. What would be the solution? E.g. here https://itsfoss.com/shutter-
edit-button-disabled/ is still offered old Ubuntu 16.04 LTS packages
which do not exist anymore under Ubuntu 18.04 nor Linux Mint 19.

[Bug 1704799] Re: iwlwifi: 8260: missing iwlwifi-8000C-{22..30}.ucode firmware

2018-05-29 Thread Edmund Laugasson
Actually the current bug report was not against Ubuntu 16.04, codename:
Xenial Xerus. It is against missing firmware for newer kernels. Actually
Ubuntu 18.04 is using already 4.15 kernel. There are even newer to come
when time goes on. At that time when tested newer kernels, the Ubuntu
16.04 LTS was out and therefore used. As I described, also the newest
linux-firmware package found in Ubuntu 18.04 LTS still missing required
firmware.

Would be thankful to know, which firmware version works with which kernel

somehow I could once with kernel 4.16.2 and linux-firmware 1.173 get it
working:

kernel: iwlwifi :04:00.0: loaded firmware version 36.e91976c0.0 op_mode
iwlmvm
kernel: iwlwifi :04:00.0: Detected Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless AC 8260,
REV=0x208

...but could not reproduce it and rest of times could not get working. Tried to
purge original linux-firmware and reinstalled, also deleted all manually added
firmware packages but still no results.

Currently working with 4.15.17 and linux-firmware 1.173:
kernel: iwlwifi :04:00.0: loaded firmware version 34.0.1 op_mode iwlmvm

[Bug 1505317] [NEW] xdg-utils backporting

2015-10-12 Thread Edmund Laugasson
Public bug reported:

Asked a question and suggested to report a bug -
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xdg-utils/+question/272333

Copy of text also here:
There is xdg-open bug (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=92440)
which seems to be fixed in xdg-utils 1.1.0 rc2 and newer - it seems that Ubuntu
15.10 will have rc3. Older Ubuntu versions
(http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=xdg-utils=names=all=all)
do have still rc1 with that xdg-open bug. Could not find any PPA either to
upgrade xdg-utils in existing and yet supported releases. Would kindly ask any
feedback whether there are any plans to backport fixed xdg-utils into older
Ubuntu releases?

Mentioned questions has been posted also here -
http://askubuntu.com/questions/684650/xdg-utils-backporting

At least supported versions of Ubuntu (and its derivates), especially
supported LTS-versions, would be expected to be backported.

[Bug 1175465] Re: Card reader - Alcor [058f:6362] didn't detect the eject of SD/MMC cards.

2014-04-27 Thread Edmund Laugasson
I can confirm the current bug under Ubuntu 14.04 LTS:
# cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=14.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=trusty
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

# lsusb
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 058f:6362 Alcor Micro Corp. Flash Card Reader/Writer
Bus 003 Device 003: ID 058f:9520 Alcor Micro Corp. EMV Certified Smart Card
Reader

More information about Alcor Micro AU9520 reader -
http://pcsclite.alioth.debian.org/ccid/readers/AU9520.txt

Actually this bug is very annoying since Ubuntu 12.04 LTS at least

Currently installed libccid in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS:

Last working version of libccid seems to be:
64-bit https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/oneiric/amd64/libccid/1.4.2-2
32-bit https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/oneiric/i386/libccid/1.4.2-2

I install (downgrade) it by command: dpkg -i libccid_1.4.2-2_i386.deb

Then I have to hold that downgraded package: echo libccid hold | dpkg
--set-selections

... for checking: dpkg --get-selections libccid
... releasing again (if I want to upgrade to current again): echo libccid
install | dpkg --set-selections

[Bug 1175465] Re: Card reader - Alcor [058f:6362] didn't detect the eject of SD/MMC cards.

2014-04-27 Thread Edmund Laugasson
sorry - forgot...

Currently installed libccid version in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS: 1.4.15-1 ---
still buggy

I can confirm, that if to downgrade onto 1.4.2-2 then this smartcard
reader will work under Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

So - you can look inside that old 1.4.2-2 version and bring back the
working state of libccid also for newer Ubuntu releases.

There are whole generation of PC-s at schools, which are using that
smardcard reader and it is really annoying bug as there are at least
several tens of thousands PC-s using that smardcard reader and since
2012 there is needed to downgrade libccid to get that smardcard reader
to work...

[Bug 995111] Re: Print failure since upgrade to 12.04

2013-10-13 Thread Edmund Laugasson
Any solution? I use 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04 LTS wit all updates and tried also
http://unquietwiki.blogspot.com/2012/05/fixing-pdf-printing-problems-on-ubuntu.html
but this did not work either. Even test page gave error when I tried these
suggestions.
Adding ppa:till-kamppeter/ppa does not upgrade anything - is this intentional?
I see that cups in that repository is older than in current Ubuntu 12.04.
Actually the problem is cups-pdf - does this PPA fix also cups-pdf issue?
Nothing will come into $HOME/PDF when trying to print...

[Bug 857651] Re: Unable to hide users from login screen / user switcher

2012-08-11 Thread Edmund Laugasson
There is also problem with shells.

In the file /etc/passwd I set:
user:x:1001:1001:,,,:/home/user:/bin/false

In file /etc/shells I added
/bin/false

Also checked:
# ls -l /bin/false
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 22896 apr1 06:09 /bin/false

But still can user log in as regular user through GUI. I would like to
create user for FTP server (vsftpd), that works only with FTP and not as
regular user.

I noticed, that at the file /etc/lightdm/users.conf there is written:
hidden-shells=/bin/false /usr/sbin/nologin

What does this mean? If /bin/false is hidden, then it is not active and
user can still log in? I even tried to remove that /bin/false but it
didn't help - still can user log in even its shell is /bin/false

[Bug 865672] Re: Adobe flash settings 'allow-deny' dialogue does not respond

2012-01-02 Thread Edmund Laugasson
I tried in Ubuntu 11.10 with Firefox 8.0 and 9.0.1 and also with Google Chrome
16.0.912.63 - same problem - cannot click on flash settings buttons. Even using
TAB (pressing several times to jump to the next button) and moving onto button
ALLOW and then pressing Enter or space - still nothing :( Even keyboard doesn't
work, mouse too...
I tried at bambuser.com and also at livestream.com - both they need allow
access to webcam and microphone. I also tried to change flash settings at
http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04.html
and also other tabs - still nothing. I had idea, that if to allow by default
all sites then I should not get such warning. But I even cannot allow this!
I even couldn't add at
http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager06.html
no URL's - there is no add option (button)? I can delete only existing sites
but not add new ones. Same problem is also at
http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager09.html
 - cannot add new URL's :( Actually the same problem is also at
http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager07.html
 - cannot add new URL's :(

doesn't work - it has built-in flash plugin. So, it seems like this
problem appears on specific version of flash...

Re: [Bug 56163] Re: Ubuntu 6.06 looses ADSL-connection when USB-stick used

2007-07-14 Thread Edmund Laugasson
Hi. Do you still get this error with newer versions of Ubuntu?

This was, I think, hardware problem, because I installed newer version of
Ubuntu and problem still
persist. No other computer has this problem. I tried at the same place my own
laptop with same
Ubuntu version and everything worked well.
So this bug can be closed, I think.

Ok, if Edmund Laugasson can't reproduce this anymore I will close
this.

This problem is gone in newer Ubuntu versions. You may close this bug.

[Bug 52906] Re: Xubuntu 6.06 LTS randomly log off

2007-04-16 Thread Edmund Laugasson
I don't use Xubuntu 6.06 currently. I use Kubuntu 6.06 and plan to
switch OpenSUSE or whatever else due to buggy Ubuntu... It seems like
there are more bugs appearing than community can fix. I need to do my
work, not hunt bugs. I mean critical bugs. I like Ubuntu but it is still
to raw. Perhaps 7.04 will better...

[Bug 54904] Re: Edubuntu 5.10: Firefox XML parsing error - total crash

2006-12-12 Thread Edmund Laugasson
This was one of client machine and I installed there already Ubuntu 6.06
LTS. So I cannot check this anymore. As I see - still is no Firefox 2.0
in Ubuntu 6.06 LTS :( I downloaded it manually and use it. I just
linked plugins folder to plugins folder in /usr/lib/...

I don't have time to reinstall my system after each 6 months to get
newest Firefox - I have big history in Thunderbird, which cannot be
unfortunately exported and also I have a lot of configured programs. I
need more time to get it all work again. Therefore this 6.06 LTS was so
attractive, that I can 3 years get updates, etc. Perhaps there is
opportunity to copy all Thunderbird profile - I have to test it.

[Bug 56090] Re: Regression: Webcams using pwc driver produce all-grey images

2006-10-19 Thread Edmund Laugasson
It seems like Canonical, Ltd. does not have priority to fix this bug. Or
there is not enough resources (skilled people and/or time) to fix bugs.
I've noticed huge amount of bugs in launchpad.net - it takes long time,
when they could fix them with current tempo. I think there is no point
to release new version of Ubuntu if old bugs are not fixed and with new
release are coming new and worse bugs (e.g. some main and important
features like scanning, printing or webcam does not work even if they
worked with earlier versions of Ubuntu or with other Linux distros).

When scanning discovered broken at Dapper Drake (6.06), they said - it
will be fixed in Edgy Eft (6.10). But what about if I would like to use
scanner and webcam in the same operating system? It seems like you
should have separate Ubuntu versions on separate PC-s or under VM Ware
(which is working under Windows...) to get support to main hardware. In
the beginning also printing was broken in this enterprise ready Dapper
Drake... Thank God they at least fixed printing and I stayed to Dapper
Drake and sacrified scanning lack.

Thanks,

[Bug 57743] Re: HP ScanJet 5p is not recognized in Kubuntu 6.06

2006-08-28 Thread Edmund Laugasson
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=197067

I tried to use Edgy Eft repositories and install xsane and also rebuild
package from source - it did not help :(

I rebuild packages:
xsane-common_0.99+0.991-1ubuntu1_all.deb
xsane_0.99+0.991-1ubuntu1_i386.deb

... by using command:
apt-get -b source xsane

... and then installed using command:
sudo dpkg -i xsane-common_0.99+0.991-1ubuntu1_all.deb
xsane_0.99+0.991-1ubuntu1_i386.deb

But still problem remains.

I also added to file /etc/udev/rules.d/20-names.rules the following row:

BUS=scsi, SYSFS{model}=C5110A, NAME=%k, MODE=0666

Still not working

So I have xsane 0.991, sane 1.0.18 and this row in
/etc/udev/rules.d/20-names.rules and still nothing...

When was Edubuntu 5.10, then this row was in file /etc/udev/udev.rules
and scanner worked!

But now there is no /etc/udev/udev.rules in Kubuntu 6.06... But I found,
that the file /etc/udev/rules.d/20-names.rules has similar structure and
i wrote this line there. But it did not help

I'm sad, that scanner does not work even system recognizes it and also
SCSI adapter works fine.

[Bug 57743] HP ScanJet 5p is not recognized in Kubuntu 6.06

2006-08-25 Thread Edmund Laugasson
Public bug reported:

I wrote all information here:
http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/index.php?topic=8244.0

... and also here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=1421275

I copied all also here:

My distro is Kubuntu 6.06 and made all current updates and I also have KDE
3.5.4, amarok 1.4.1 and KOffice 1.5.2 installed (all from kubuntu.org/packages).
My kernel is:
Code:
$ uname -r
2.6.15-26-386

In Edubuntu 5.10 this scanner and SCSI adapter worked after I used these
instructions -
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=11718highlight=scanjet+5p+scanner
But now are udev changed and these suggestions does not have effects Sad

According to sane-project web page this scanner should have complete support to
Linux:
http://sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html#Z-HEWLETT-PACKARD

I have HP ScanJet 5p SCSI scanner and Initio 9100 SCSI controller (kernel
module initio loaded).
dmesg output:

[Bug 55205] Re: Printing broken by Updates of 2006 Aug 1

2006-08-17 Thread Edmund Laugasson
I installed at 16th of August 2006 to another (desktop) PC also Kubuntu
6.06 LTS and there I installed at first network printer in the
beginning. I did not make any updates before - just clean Kubuntu. Then
I enabled universe, multiverse repositories and made dist-upgrade as
always. After restart I still could access to the CUPS. Then I enabled
also KDE 3.5.4 repository and also KOffice and Amarok repositories from
kubuntu.org/packages, made again dist-upgrade and after restart I still
could access to CUPS! Amazing! I could also print to this network
printer (HP LaserJet 6P with TrendNet printserver using ipp protocol and
9100 port as always).

But KDE started already at version 3.5.2 to announce me, that it could not
create mcop folder (artsmessage). It's quite boring to see at each login this
error message...
I checked at ~/.mcop and everything seemed to fine. Also sound worked. Even
with 2.6.15-26-386 (26.46) kernel! I just don't understand...

[Bug 55205] Re: Printing broken by Updates of 2006 Aug 1

2006-08-15 Thread Edmund Laugasson
Saying it doesn't work is not very descriptive, please provide more
information.

Well, I added the file
http://librarian.launchpad.net/3900492/printingbuginfo.txt made with the
script available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PrintingBugInfoScript

It would be nice if you could describe what you have already tried to
investigate the problem.

I installed KDE 3.5.4 from http://kubuntu.org/packages/kde-354/ and did
not afraid any problem due to its stable state. It promised eliminate a
lot of problems, including several CUPS problems - at
http://kubuntuforums.net/ we may read:

* Updated cupsys to upstream bugfix release 1.2.2, fixing many bugs
  (including #42513, #42802, #44931, #47387, #48116, #51432, and part
  of #42802).

This Kubuntu 6.06.1 include KDE 3.5.4 and CUPS 1.2.2, I suppose.

I did not mention the CUPS problem until I needed to install network
printer. Then I could not access over web interface even CUPS is
working. I made restart using usual command

sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys restart

... and it started normally. I included my error_log also and it shows
no errors. I changed log level to debug in CUPS config file to get more
output into this log file but it did not give errors.

I use the kernel 2.6.15-23-386, because 2.6.15-26-386 seems to be buggy,
because sound server ALSA crashed and whatever I tried to play (Amarok,
Kaffeine, XMMS, MPlayer) looped endlessly and only killing the program
stopped it. I don't know, is it KDE 3.5.4 and 2.6.15-26-386 (26.46)
incompatibility issue or is this new kernel really so buggy. Anyway - I
use the original kernel, what came from Kubuntu 6.06 LTS Alternative
installation CD.

Is cups running? Run the following command to find out:
 $ ps -A | grep cups

4030 ?00:00:00 cupsd

 $ /etc/init.d/cupsys status

Status of Common Unix Printing System: cupsd is running.

Well, it seems like running. This is the most strange thing - everything
seems to be fine but no access to CUPS daemon...

What does the following command give:
 $ lpinfo -v

Nothing - it just start waiting something and no output. I should use
CTRL+C to cancel it.

Please attach your /etc/cups/cupsd.conf and /etc/cups/cups.d/*

 Please see attached cups_config_files.tar.gz file.

Are you able to access the webinterface (http://localhost:631)

No, I'm not able to access.

if not do a ping localhost.

I read this problem and my localhost exist:
$ ping localhost
PING localhost (127.0.0.1) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from localhost (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.092 ms

3 packets transmitted, 3 received, 0% packet loss, time 1999ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.084/0.087/0.092/0.003 ms

More information and a workaround for your problem can be found in bug
#55828

Unfortunately I were not able to change any format to raw due to no
access of CUPS

Another thing - I made Kubuntu 6.06 Alternate install onto another
machine and there I did not install KDE 3.5.4 and left this KDE, what it
updated - KDE 3.5.2. And result is, that I can access to CUPS in all
ways and also added network printer.

I also remember, when I installed Kubuntu 6.06 few days ago and
installed KDE 3.5.3, then also I could access to printing system to
install printer. So, it seems like KDE 3.5.4 has communication problems
with CUPS daemon.

But it seems like I have to reinstall my whole laptop and I don't want
to make experiment with my work PC - does KDE 3.5.3 work with CUPS or
not. I just don't have so much time always reinstall whole system due to
some nasty bug. Or is there option to downgrade KDE in working way?

[Bug 55205] Re: Printing broken by Updates of 2006 Aug 1

2006-08-15 Thread Edmund Laugasson
I also would like to say, that in this laptop, where all this KDE 3.5.4
and CUPS 1.2.2 rendez-vous happens - there I have no printers installed.

So I keep in some time this KDE 3.5.4 to see this bug solve process. If it will
not be solved during one week, I problably will install clean Kubuntu again
with official KDE 3.5.2 to get my printers work. I have at work network printer
(HP LJ 6P with TrendNet printserver) and also I plan buy to home printserver,
because this laptop (Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo L7300G2) does not have parallel port
(LPT) and therefore I need to use printserver to be able to print at all.
Reason is simple - I need to work and schoolyear begins and I work at school.
But thanks in advance for all of help! I hope in one beautiful day it will be
solved.
But this case teached me one thing - don't think, that new stable version of
KDE will work - there may be bugs, that you don't even expect and these bugs
may be critical for you (like current is)...

[Bug 55205] Re: Printing broken by Updates of 2006 Aug 1

2006-08-15 Thread Edmund Laugasson
I also had in /etc/environments the following row (added myself to
accelerate Konqueror web browsing):

KDE_NO_IPV6=1

I commented it out, made restart to CUPS and even to PC but it did not
help - CUPS still not accessible...

I also have in Firefox some tweaks
(http://easylinux.info/wiki/Ubuntu_dapper#How_to_load_Web_site_faster_in_Mozilla_Firefox)
to get better perfomance but also these tweaks were not the reason, why I
cannot access over web.
Certainly I added user cupsys to group shadow:
sudo adduser cupsys shadow

... and also checked, that regular user were already in group lpadmin.
So I should have everything ready to access CUPS over web interface.

I also tried to install old CUPS 1.20 by using command:

sudo apt-get install cupsys=1.2.0-0ubuntu5 cupsys-client=1.2.0-0ubuntu5
cupsys-bsd=1.2.0-0ubuntu5

... but it did not help. Certainly, I removed CUPS and all other
components before I installed old ones.

As you probably mention - I read launchpad and searched Google before I
reported this bug.

I also tried to reconfigure it:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure cupsys

I choosed instead of:
localhost:631 /var/run/cups/cups.sock
... and put there only:
localhost:631

It did not help...

So, I gave up and reported my bug...

[Bug 56335] ReiserFS: Cannot copy larger than 2,8GB file

2006-08-14 Thread Edmund Laugasson
Public bug reported:

I have 80GB hard disk and it's formated as reiserfs (v3.6 standard and
r5 hash). This hard disk is inserted into USB to IDE box. So I connected
this 80GB USB disk into Kubuntu 6.06 LTS with kernel 2.6.15-23-386 (the
original, which came with Kubuntu 6.06).

I need to copy 7GB file (*.iso). It copies ca 39% and the file size is
2,8GB (2 969 276 416 B) and then Konqueror said for copying status
Stopped. No error messages but just stopped.

When I hit on the button cancel and start again then it copies the
same amount of data.

I monitored /var/log/messages and it said:

[Bug 43473] Re: Cant add any printers

2006-08-14 Thread Edmund Laugasson
at first you should type the following:

sudo adduser cupsys shadow

Check if regular user is in lpadmin group - type as regular user:

groups

... then you may see, in which group members regular user is.

After that you may log in at localhost:631

If needed you may also root add to lpadmin group:

sudo adduser root lpadmin

But currently it seems like in Kubuntu is CUPS broken - I can't access
to it :(

[Bug 56090] Re: Problems with PWC for Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000

2006-08-12 Thread Edmund Laugasson
I use Kubuntu 6.06 LTS and 2.6.15-23-i386 kernel (2.6.15-26 is sound
broken and touchpad does not work in laptop) and in my system (Fujitsu-
Siemens Amilo L7300G2 laptop) this webcam works. I have exact the same
webcam. It works with Ekiga (http://www.ekiga.org/) and GV4L
(http://gv4l.sourceforge.net/).

Also mplayer shows picture if you use the following command:

mplayer tv:// -tv driver=v4l

This command captures real-time video stream without voice from webcam.

If you want, you may scale image to larger:

mplayer tv:// -tv driver=v4l -vop scale=800

...then you will get 800x600 picture. You need to put only first size of
layout. But if you use non-xvideo driver (e.g. vesa) at X.org then it
might be quite slow or even hang your computer. You may check using
command xvinfo, do you have any xvideo (xv) support at your graphics
driver. I used driver via at my laptop and it has xvideo support. This
laptop has VIA Unichrome 2D/3D integrated graphics adapter, which is
known as poor 3D acceleration. But at least via driver has xvideo
support and it's enough to play DVD-s, movies and other video streams
with audio.

If your device is v4l2 then use it. Try if does not know.

I use MPlayer 1.0pre7try2. It is in universe or multiverse repository -
these should be enabled in order to install MPlayer.

But in Kopete it does not work. I tried in Kopete 0.12.1 and KDE 3.5.4 - not
working :(
But I don't care - I use MSN for typing and if I want to speak, I use Skype and
for videoconferencing I use Ekiga. But as far as I owned webcam - no one did
not have video conference with me. Most people does not have or use webcam. But
at the same time some people are using quite frequently it. So, good webcam
support is very appreciated and necessary feature at Ubuntu. Especially due to
its pwc driver (http://www.saillard.org/linux/pwc/) support, which supports
most of Creative and other webcams which are using Philips chipset including
this Logitech QuickCam 4000 Pro.

[Bug 56163] Ubuntu 6.06 looses ADSL-connection when USB-stick used

2006-08-12 Thread Edmund Laugasson
Public bug reported:

Motherboard is Shuttle MV43N with chipset VIA P4M266 + VIA VT8235. LAN
adapter is VIA VT6103 and this is integrated with this motherboard. CPU
is Intel Celeron 1,7GHz.

Distro was Ubuntu 6.06 LTS and I made alternate install and also all
updates at 12th of August at 2006.

It updated also kernel to 2.6.15-26-i386 but I had to switch back to
2.6.15-23 due to broken sound. Then sound worked fine but when I
inserted USB-memory stick (Kingston 512MB), after some time ADSL-
connection is lost and impossible to reconnect. I made restart to
/etc/init.d/networking - no effect. Also sudo poff -a and sudo pon dsl-
provider did not help. I also restarted ADSL-modem - nothing. I called
to ISP and asked, what's wrong. ISP said - everything looks fine at
their side. Then I tested ADSL using System Rescue CD
(http://www.sysresccd.org/) and ADSL worked fine. Then I realized, that
hardware and ISP is fine - only my freshly installed Ubuntu 6.06 is
joking with me.

But after using System Rescue CD and its ADSL program, also Ubuntu
worked again with ADSL.

And it repeats if USB-memory stick is used again.

[Bug 55898] Kubuntu 6.06 LTS and KDE 3.5.4 - sound crash!

2006-08-10 Thread Edmund Laugasson
Public bug reported:

I made fresh install of Kubuntu 6.06 onto laptop Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo
L7300G2 (http://www.fujitsu-
siemens.com/home/products/notebooks/amilo_l_7300.html) then updated KDE
to 3.5.4 (latest stable) and then sound server totally crashed when
tried to play anything. I tried several programs like Kaffeine, Amarok,
XMMS and all these programs crashed - sound looped endlessly and only
xkill helped to close those programs.

Also if I used standby at KLaptop, then when resumed, also sound looped
endlessly - only restart or kill helped. This was due to log on sound,
which crashed with sound server. When disabled log on sound - this never
happened again with standby.

I checked also log files /var/log/syslog and /var/log/messages and
nothing there about sound.

[Bug 53155] Midnight Commander shows error messages

2006-07-16 Thread Edmund Laugasson
Public bug reported:

These error messages are appeared in Xubuntu 6.06 LTS, Kubuntu 6.06 LTS. It
seems like there is no matter, what Ubuntu derivate you have - it appears
everywhere, where Midnight Commander is installed.
Midnight Commander in use - mc_4.6.1-1ubuntu2_i386.deb
Kernel in use - 2.6.15-26-386
Tested file for view: ~/.bashrc

Error message #1

If you would like to edit any text file by pressing F4, then Midnight Commander
shows error message:

Load syntax file
Error in file /home/user/.mc/cedit/Syntax on line 121

If I press any key, then it goes further and will edit file as asked.
But boring is always hit one more key on keyboard to edit file.

And by the way, if I look at ~/.mc/cedit/ folder, then it's empty! I
checked this as regular user and as root.

Sometimes, e.g. ~/.mc/history, does not give error, when looking it with
F3.

Error message #2
*
If you just want to look inside text file by pressing F3 and again F3 (or F10)
to exit from view, then it shows errors:
.bashrc:26: warning: can't find special character `\033[01;32m]'
.bashrc:26: warning: numeric expression expected (got a special character)
.bashrc:26: a space character is not allowed in an escape name
.bashrc:29: cannot use character `:' as a starting delimiter
.bashrc:29: a space character is not allowed in an escape name
.bashrc:34: warning: numeric expression expected (got a special character)
.bashrc:34: a space character is not allowed in an escape name

I will in comment add also pictures and my .bashrc. Unfortunately I
cannot add these files now, when reporting bug, because I just don't see
any opportunity to do it right now.

[Bug 53155] Re: Midnight Commander shows error messages

2006-07-16 Thread Edmund Laugasson
I would like to add, that if to use F3 to view any text file (e.g. some
configuration script), then it messes rows up - all rows goes as a one
long line. But when I press F4 (edit), then I see everything fine. Why?
In other distros I've never seen that...

[Bug 52906] Xubuntu 6.06 LTS randomly log off

2006-07-13 Thread Edmund Laugasson
Public bug reported:

Xubuntu 6.06 randomly log off and all unsaved work will lost. I tried to
research log files but nothing extraordinary I did't find.

Kernel is 2.6.15-25-386. I currently updating it to the 2.6.15-26-386 -
perhaps it solves the problem...

[Bug 49655] Re: USB mount failed in Xubuntu 6.06 LTS

2006-06-14 Thread Edmund Laugasson
Found this address:
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/pmount/+bug/18516

there is written:
--
After reviewing pmount source code, I found this code snippet at policy.c:399:

fwl = fopen( WHITELIST, r );
if( !fwl )
return 0;

if( regcomp( re, ^[[:space:]]*([a-zA-Z0-9/_+\\-\\.]+)[[:space:]]*(#.*)?$,
REG_EXTENDED ) ) {
fprintf( stderr, Internal error: device_whitelisted(): could not
compile regex\n );
exit( -1 );
}

Hmm...

After I delete /etc/pmount.allow, I re-insert USB flash,
and gnome-volume-manager pmount works properly.

Or, below code should be replaced with it:

  exit(-1); - fclose(fwl); return 0;
--

It seems like there are some locale problems. I use Estonian locale,
which passes also utf8 but official codepage is ISO 8859-15. But utf8
does the job also very well.

So - my question is - why is pmount source code still not corrected?! And
Ubuntu (and other branches) are called enterprise ready? Or is it U.S.
enterprise ready and not other countries?
