[Bug 116274] Re: [feisty] no currently active network device, won't activate VPN

2008-09-09 Thread Francois
Hi,
I have just reproduced the same behaviour with network-manager-vpnc on hardy.
I have two network interfaces : eth0 (ethernet cable) and wlan0.
I configure both interface through network-manager GUI (no manual
configuration), but each time I connect VPN through wlan0, I get :
Sep 9 09:30:24 IS202619 NetworkManager: Will activate VPN connection
'XX', service 'org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.vpnc', user_name 'fv212846',
vpn_data 'IPSec gateway / YYY.YYY.YYY.Y / IPSec ID / XXX / Xauth username /
fv212846', route '132.166.0.0/16 / 132.167.0.0/16'.
Sep 9 09:30:24 IS202619 NetworkManager:
nm_vpn_manager_activate_vpn_connection():
nm_vpn_manager_activate_vpn_connection(): no currently active network device,
won't activate VPN.

Oddly, when I plug a cable on eth0, whithout configuring the interface,
everything works OK.

[Bug 1313165] Re: removal blacklist matches update-manager-kde which is not critical anymore

2014-08-25 Thread francois
Hello, please guide the non-techies like myself .
I only upgrade from LTS to LTS, and via the pop-ups, not terminal commands.
However, I'm willing to give it a try but please give me the EXACT commands to
type in order to:
1/ remove update-manager-kde
2/ provoke the upgrade to the new LTS
Thanks in advance

[Bug 1360035] Re: Kubuntu upgrade LTS to LTS fails

2014-08-25 Thread francois
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1313165 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1313165

Hello,
I feel this is not eactly a duplicate because 1313165 mentions things like
"Natty", "Saucy", "remove package xx...", which are unfamiliar to me.
I prefer nice, smooth, "click upgrade" from LTS to LTS like in the past,
without any command inputs from a terminal prompt.

However, I'm willing to give it a try but please give me the EXACT commands to
type in order to:
1/ remove update-manager-kde (with guarantee I won't break eveything ;-)
2/ provoke the upgrade to the new LTS from the terminal as well, as I expect 1/
to break to nice pop-up "please upgrade"

Thanks in advance

[Bug 1207812] Re: [Sony VGN-SR29XN_S] Iphone with iOS 7 does not work on Ubuntu

2014-01-21 Thread Francois
Using Ubuntu 13.10 x64 + IOS 7.0.4 + iPhone5s, it does not work by default.
After updating libimobiledevice package to
libimobiledevice4_1.1.6-git20140105_amd64.deb, I could plug my iPhone5s with no
issue.
It solve my trust-loop-problem.

[Bug 1777639] [NEW] No C++ demangling in perf

2018-06-19 Thread Francois
Public bug reported:

Hello,

It appears that C++ demangling support is missing from linux-
tools-4.15.0-23-generic, on Ubuntu 16.04.

Could that please be fixed? The lack of demangling support was also
noticed in linux-tools-4.13.0-45-generic.

Kind regards,

Francois.

Ps: Launchpad reported "linux-tools-4.15.0-23-generic" does not exist in
Ubuntu. Package name changed to "linux".

Christopher M. Penalver, I am not so sure the workaround is easy to
implement. A regular user is unlikely to find this bug report and would
probably not know how to parse any of the comments here even if they
did. And this bug was triggered by a system update. Just imagine
somebody who can barely edit a text file rebooting into a blank screen.

[Bug 172589] Ekiga links do not work (eg get a PC-Phone account)

2007-11-28 Thread francois
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ekiga

Kubuntu 7.10

I tried to explicitly set 'System Settings' > Default Applications >
Browser (/usr/bin/)konqueror, or export BROSWER=/usr/bin/konqueror;
ekiga

Nothing happens when clicking

I would like to get an Ekiga PC-to-phone account.

Also, more often than not, the webcam is not recognised (".. palette of
colors kernel.." error), but sometimes it does find it, then I
quickly slide the brightness cursor to get a decent pic.

2010-04-28 Thread Francois
I am also impact with this bug.
The problem is that packages gobject-introspection-repository does not exist
anymore in Lucid.
The source package need to be update in debian/control.in, the maintainer need
to add gobject-introspection-repository into the replace line.
As i did not want to compile it, here is a work around.

[Bug 571107] Re: evolution is unable load mapi plugin

2010-04-28 Thread Francois
Here is a workaround to use evolution-mapi 0.28.3 on Lucid

Uninstall the existing plugin if you have it installed by typing...
# sudo apt-get remove evolution-mapi
Get some pre-requisite packages
# sudo apt-get install evolution-data-server-dev libedataserverui1.2-dev
libebackend1.2-dev libecal1.2-dev libedata-cal1.2-dev libedata-book1.2-dev
libcamel1.2-dev
# sudo apt-get install evolution-dev libmapi-dev samba4-dev intltool
Get the latest version of that MAPI plugin and build it
# wget
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/evolution-mapi_0.28.3.orig.tar.gz
# tar zxvf evolution-mapi-0.28.3.orig.tar.gz
# cd evolution-mapi-0.28.3/
# ./configure
# make
# sudo make install
Bathe in the glory of Exchange 2007 connectivity
NOTE: This circumvents the Ubuntu repositories for this particular plugin. Once
the updated version is
available in the repositories, it would be prudent to revert to using the
Ubuntu-provided version so you
continue to get updates in future.

[Bug 546091] Re: 10.04 Installer doesn't properly detect 9240 MegaRaid SAS Controlers

2010-07-06 Thread Francois
Hello

x3550 M3 and x3650 M3 are affected by this problem.
As mention before Ubuntu 10.04 include the megaraid_sas driver version
00.00.04.01
# modinfo megaraid_sas
filename:
/lib/modules/2.6.32-21-generic/kernel/drivers/scsi/megaraid/megaraid_sas.ko
description:LSI MegaRAID SAS Driver
author: megaraidli...@lsi.com
version:00.00.04.01

RHEL5.5 use the megaraid_sas driver version 00.00.04.17

ServeRAID-M1015 SAS/SATA and ServeRAID-M5014 SAS/SATA are affected both are
provide on x3550 M3 and x3650 M3.
We use IBM heavily.

Thanks,
Francois

[Bug 1880749] Re: python3 virtualenvs include (broken) bundled pip deps

2020-10-13 Thread Francois
20.04 is an LTS release, so it's the next step in upgrading from 18.04 and all
new server builds.
Sadly, this fix did not make it into 20.04.1, according to the Release Notes.

As mentioned by Kai, does "latest development version of Ubuntu." mean
20.10+ releases?

[Bug 313997] [NEW] If device not plugged at boot, USB doesn't work

2009-01-05 Thread Francois
Public bug reported:

Running Hardy, on a laptop Lenovo T61p, with kernel 2.6.24-22-generic #1 SMP
Mon Nov 24 18:32:42 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux
If I plug a USB key right after the boot, it works fine. "lsusb" shows me the
usb stuff available on that computer. If I don't plug anything in the USB
plug, and wait for maybe half an hour or more after I boot, the USB doesn't
work when I plug something in it. "lsusb" hangs then when I want to run it. I
have to reboot to make it works, and of course, plug right after the boot, the
usb device I need. Francois

then, the help provided needs to be modified as it still refers to the

[Bug 1638990] Re: nvidia-367 with kernel 4.4.0-45-generic won't boot

2016-11-07 Thread Francois
FYI, nvidia-367 works with kernel 4.4.0-43-generic. Might be an
acceptable workaround for some people until this bug is fixed.

Rebuilding nvidia-367 using dpkg-reconfigure under kernel 4.4.0-45
didn't work for me. Neither did reinstalling it (probably not much of a
different effect).

Also wanted to mention that the initial symptom of this problem in the
presence of full-disk encryption is that the boot fails very early,
before it even asks for your FDE passphrase. It surprised me to find
that the nvidia driver or some part of it is loaded that early. I
thought by HDD had failed.

[Bug 1638990] Re: nvidia-367 with kernel 4.4.0-45-generic won't boot

2016-11-12 Thread Francois
RE comment #10 and my own comment #9:

I tried again and can confirm that nomodeset works with kernel 4.4.0-47
and nvidia-367.57.

System boots into xorg with the nvidia drivers in use and working completely.

My mistake was that I had left the following line in /etc/default/grub:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""

So this is what it needs to look like:

#GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
#GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="nomodeset"

[Bug 205045] [NEW] [Hardy beta] Xorg fails to configure an usable xorg.conf

2008-03-22 Thread Francois Thirioux
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg

Hi,

Toshiba U200, intel 945, driver "intel", Kubuntu Hardy beta last
updates.

When I did a "dpkg-reconfigure -phigh etc...", my xorg.conf became wrong (see
attachment).
When rebooting, it fails to initialize.
I replaced it with an old xorg.conf and all is ok.

Additionally, note that the Monitor/Display driver utility does not
allow me to switch back from i810 to intel (the i810 is the one choosed
by my wrong worg.conf).

Thanks !

[Bug 205442] [NEW] Iced Tea installation does not allow choice

2008-03-23 Thread Francois Thirioux
Public bug reported:

Hi,

[Hardy up-to-date, Sun Java 6 installed]

When installing Iced Tea (proposed in Adept without any special action), I was
not asked for a choice between Sun Java and Iced Tea.
(Some softwares do experience issues with IT... GeoGebra e.g.)

So I uninstalled ITea, and again I was not asked for a VM choice. No
Java was usable before some well known command lines on Java version.

It would be nice that, like kdm/gdm, the user is asked for a choice in
Adept.

Thanks

[Bug 196346] [NEW] linux-resticted-modules-2.6.24-10-generic not installable

2008-02-27 Thread Francois Rigaut
Public bug reported:

Just did a partial upgrade with the latest hardy package updates (wed feb 27,
2008). That included the 2.6.24-10 kernel.
Well, the restricted modules can not be installed at this time (I need the
ath_pci driver for my atheros card). When trying to install by hand (after
rebooting on the 2.6.24-8 kernel), I get the error message (in synaptic):
"linux-restricted-modules-generic:
Depends: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-10-generic but it is not installable
"
and indeed, linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-10-generic is not on the repos (I'm

I guess it's gonna show up soon on the repos, but I just wanted to

after selecting the main US server, linux-restricted-
modules-2.6.24-10-generic was available and installed allright.

Even though this solved the problem for me, I seems that this relates to
a problem in the handling of the ubuntu mirrors: Why was the kernel
uploaded (including packages.gz) on this mirror, and made available,
*before* the restricted modules? Is that a mess up or a procedural
problem? Anyway, I'm closing this bug.

[Bug 198971] Re: [Hardy] Wireless broken with latests updates

2008-03-10 Thread Francois Rigaut
@Vytas: no luck. I am using 0.6.6-0ubuntu1 and my wireless still won't
connect (I was already using this version when I wrote my previous
message).

I also tried directly with the alpha6 liveCD and I get exactly the same
problem: my open) network is listed by the nm-applet but the thing will
not connect.

I can't come back to an earlier version and 0.6.6-0ubuntu1 is the only
one left in the repos (if there's another way to get an earlier version
I don't know it).

This seems to me a very serious bug, and I am surprised that other
(thinkpad) users are not reporting it.

I am currently doing the latest upgrade (with 2.6.24-12), but I doubt this will
solve my problem. I attach the relevant part of daemon.log and lspci in case it
could be useful.
Note that I am now at work and this is a closed network, but the problem was
also present at home with an open network.

I use a HP Deskjet 701C on parallel port
I launch the commands in

I launch the command "sudo aa-complain cupsd" but any works.

I launch "printingbuginfo -l" and join the result.
