[Bug 1885530] Re: password doesn't leave dots on being entered
I am not able to see the password dots unless i highlight the text in the text box. Also when the screen goes 'gray?' the dots show up. This happens after clicking the login button or hitting enter. My hardware is : Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Picasso (rev c4). It seems like the bug comments are suggesting that the problems are related to fancy hardware features. Hi, it doesn't seem to help: I had an incident, where the choppyness didn't go away even after restart, and also not after adding said option. [Bug 1931146] Re: installer crash on manual partitioning when using encryption
This may be a duplicate of an eight year old bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1510731. The workaround is to use the gtk_ui 1. Install ubiquity-frontend-gtk; 2. run "ubiquity gtk_ui" options are not exactly the same but close enough to get install with LUKS root. Be aware that another bug causes the installer to RECREATE existing LUKS partitions even if you CANCEL the install. DO NOT use ubiquity to manage crypto partitions for an install of Kubuntu/Ubuntu on existing LUKS partitions. Instead, use luksOpen yourself before running ubiquity. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1931146 Title: installer crash on manual partitioning when using encryption To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1931146/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1931146] Re: installer crash on manual partitioning when using encryption
FYI. I can install if I create LVM volumes on top of the crypto part but bootup with LVM and LUKS is complex so it fails. This is probably not the fault of the installer but I'm still working on that approach as a workaround to not having direct access to the crypto part in the installer. Another approach might be to manually mount /target on the crypto parts before install. [Bug 1931146] Re: installer crash on manual partitioning when using encryption
When I manually create the luks partition and label it as such ubiquity crashes when I then try to setup /boot. If I setup /boot first it does not crash and I can then assign a crypto partition. But that's it. The installer will not let me do anything else with a crypo partition. If I cannot choose it as / then I can't install to it. I tried clicking install now after assigning /boot and crypto but nothing happens. Also, after doing the above steps if I click Back the installer crashes with 'An error occurred while creating the keyfile.' -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1931146 Title: installer crash on manual partitioning when using encryption To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1931146/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I just ran an install where I don't use LUKs and it works. seems that in addition to the installer not allowing me to fully configure encrypted partitions it also crashes configuring other partitions when one of them is set to use encryption. to reproduce * create partitions before install * start install * move through setup to partitioning. choose manual * choose one of the partitions and change it to use encryption * choose another partition and click Edit. [Bug 1931146] [NEW] installer crash on manual partitioning
Public bug reported: I am attempting a fresh install on a dual boot setup. currently using windows 10 and Kubuntu 20.04. I am also using LUKS but the installer doesn't really seem to support it--even the old manual setup-- so I might have to downgrade to 20.10. I have existing partitions so I choose manual but when I attempt to assign partitions and tell the system to format it crashes. In this case I was assigning /boot as a plain partition with nothing special and when clicking OK it crashes. I don't even get to the Install Now button. it crashes editing the /boot partition. Re: [Bug 1774749] Re: scaling is off
Hi Felix, Sorry I have not gotten back to you. I've been traveling and thus away from my external monitor at home. I can essentially set the 'look and feel' correctly for my laptop monitor or my external monitor, but it requires changing the settings every time I go from one to the other. I have to use the 24" setting for my laptop and the 48" setting when I connect to my monitor. [Bug 1774749] [NEW] scaling is off
Public bug reported: When I use the default in the appearance setting [Display size], which is 24" I believe, everything is way too big. Most importantly, the text in the mindmap is too big. If I turn off menu scaling, the menu isn't a problem. If I set the display size to a significantly larger number, such as 50", the font is at the desirable size, but the readability is horrible. Fonts are either too thin or too bold, and edges have a very undesirable appearance (I would say they are more curvaceous, if that helps). I've played around with different scaling options on my computer to no avail. What used to happen is that the app just seemed to not scale at all. It had a definite font size, and this worked great for my large monitor. [Bug 1011007] Re: blkid identifies ext4 rootfs as silicon_medley_raid_member, breaks boot
The upstream Redhat bug is closed as NOTABUG, but the situation was not discussed there properly. There was an assumption made that the partition was part of a software raid array at some point. This was not the case for me (brand new disk when installed, only ever in one layout), however it was an LVM partition, so resizing it slightly fixed the problem. [Bug 1010568] Re: xcp-xapi problem with tun based VPN , tinc in my case
Hello, I can confirm that this is still a problem (two years later). It's more of a minor annoyance than anything. I've added Should-Start: xcp-xapi but cannot confirm that it resolves the problem outright until I am able to have downtime. The segfaults still occur whenever OpenVPN starts before xcp-xapi. I would hope that the Should-Start fix isn't the answer to fixing a segfault -- the cause is still there. I would imagine it has to do with the existence of tap/tun interface. just another bit of info...even though the previous comments really cover the problem pretty well...i have same problem and i don't think it hardware related...i installed ubuntu 12.04.1 about one month ago and find it can freeze up at random times and it happens both when you are using the system or when it is just there sitting idel...it is almost as though ubuntu is checking for updates or something like that... my system locks up to where no mouse or keyboard will wake it up, not even a quick push of the powere button. i have to hold down the power button for several seconds till the system powers off and then power back up to get ubuntu runing again. just for grins and giggles i installed ubuntu 12.04.1.LTS on an older HP DESKTOP using an Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.2 GHzX2 with 2 GB of memory and 155.4 GB of disk space...the OS TYPE is 32 BIT! I love it when i runs...however it will freeze in maybe a day or make it 5 days before freezing...i thought it was the HP monitor or mouse with the roller so i switched them out and the problem still happens... hope this helps nail down the problem...keep up the good work...we really do appreciate it... jerry -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently. [Bug 733349] Re: Minimize windows upon clicking application's launcher
Here's another reason for needing this expected functionality. I have my email open maximised. I also have another window which has focus. I want minimize the email window to use something below or for some other reason (I personally use a large resolution screen, so am not just using one window at a time). To minimize my unfocussed, maximised window, I have to first focus the window and then find its minimize button in the top bar, as the title bar has been absorbed into the top bar, which contains the menu of the currently focussed window. This is an irritatingly lengthy process, relative to the usual taskbar method. I'm aware that this only affects large screen users, but it is a regular scenario for me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/733349 Title: Minimize windows upon clicking application's launcher -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 710762] Re: Middle mouse button no longer works
So two claims here and in the Natty "Known Issues" list that 2 button mice are "quite rare" or "not very common". Yet the point made by an earlier poster is ignored - nearly all laptops (except Macs) have only two buttons. I understand that most developers may use a desktop machine or a mouse connected to their laptop, but those of us who work on the go often don't have space for a rodent. The third button is a key tool in Linux/X and especially important to me. Ignoring users with slightly different hardware to yourself = bad news. [Bug 270997] Re: intrepid regression: rdesktop overrides window manger key binding even when -K is used
Hi, this bug still persists (with the (k)ubuntu of today, whichever). I am very thankful that something like rdesktop exists, but this bug is known for 2 years now. And it's a regression if I understood correctly. Every two or three month I check again on the bug just to see that nothing at all has changed. AND I have also have a gentoo where it works (same version, rdesktop 1.6.0), so I reckon this is an ubuntu package specific problem. Is somebody going to fix this? Is there a package maintainer or something? What about the patch above, is somebody (semiofficial) going to test it and perhaps put it into the package? I try to use Linux as my 'productive' system at work. I use rdesktop everyday at work, I am not! the only one. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/270997 Title: intrepid regression: rdesktop overrides window manger key binding even when -K is used -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 537011] Re: screensavers do not appear in selection-list
Running /usr/bin/rss-glx_install or manually editing .xscreensaver did nothing for me. However, the correct desktop entries are in /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/ (note the case of ScreenSavers) and copying the contents of that directory into /usr/share/kde4/services/ScreenSavers/ did the trick. For complete clarity: sudo cp /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/*.desktop /usr/share/kde4/services/ScreenSavers/ is the command required. I'm on Kubuntu 10.04 and installed xscreensavers as well as rss-glx Might I suggest that this is really a shortcoming in the setup of kde? Would it not be more helpful for /usr/share/kde4/services/ScreenSavers/ to symlink to /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/ and have all of its standard contents in there? Hmm bizarre. If I increase the block size with mksquashfs, the problem disappears. Even with the same file structure. I had tried re-running mksquashfs previously, to no avail. [Bug 172937] Re: SQUASHFS error while booting from live cd
Although I have not had a problem installing from and versions of the install CD, I have had this error with squashfs. I am using it for a running system, with aufs, so that the OS is reset to its original form after each reboot. Most of the time it is fine, but sometimes I get this error with a particular build of my system. If it works it will always work, but if I build one that comes up with this error, it always fails. The weird thing is that if I mount the filesystem via loopback on my normal system, it appears to be fine. Could this be a problem with the version of squashfs used in 8.04? Has it changed since 7.10? Unfortunately I can't find anything in common with the versions of my system that don't work, as opposed to those that do. I may be missing something but after installing openoffice.org- evolution, I still don't get those additional options. However personally I am after a more generic LDAP access, which is available in the standard openoffice.org-2.4 install. I downloaded the deb packages from openoffice.org and they installed fine and LDAP access works. In this case, why on earth can this not be included in the ubuntu packages? [Bug 33512] Re: Removeable devices shouldn't be put into fstab
I also think that putting static information about removable device is useless. People running servers without X/GNOME/KDE probably know how to use /etc/fstab. If not, they will have to learn it anyway after inserting usb flash disc or external drive. Putting static info to fstab can imho cause problems to average users, for example when they change configuration of their computer. I personally had this problem after installing ubuntu from flash drive. Installation program thought that flash drive was actually cd-rom drive and put line in fstab saying that filesystem at /dev/sda1 is is9660. After installation I couldn't use flash drives, with automounter simply saying it can't mount the device, without any explanation. [Bug 23497] Re: i8042 unbind required for keyboard/mouse to be useable following suspend/resume & hibernate/resume cycle
Works a treat on my nx7400 too. I am also using kernel 2.6.20.14 and acpi-support 0.95, but it did not work by itself (only very occasionally as reported by others). As the patched package kindly supplied by Scott Robinson was for an older version of acpi-support, I manually added the scripts from the patch, and changed the numbering of the resume script as he suggested later. Its a shame this will not make it to Feisty final, according to the bug status. This type of thing failing is exactly what makes new users say "Linux is rubbish - nothing ever works" because they don't understand yet. [Bug 81767] Re: Suspend to RAM does not work well on HP notebook nx7400 in feisty
When you compiled the kernel yourself with i8042 as a module, did the brightness issue still occur? What I am wondering is whether the brightness is down because of a power management setting, but never comes back up because there is no event from keyboard or mouse to tell it to turn back on. If you don't have the brightness problem when i8042 is a module, then clearly it is just the module that is required. [Bug 81767] Re: Suspend to RAM does not work well on HP notebook nx7400 in feisty
Same for me. It seems clear that i8042 as a module is the solution and unloading/reloading this and psmouse on suspend/resume is necessary. This clearly needs changing in the releases though. The question now I believe is whether the screen is turned off and you have to press the brightness buttons to get it back on after resume. I do not have this symptom, but others have. But is it only because the screen has been turned off by screensaver/power management? [Bug 81767] Re: Suspend to RAM does not work well on HP notebook nx7400 in feisty
I have the same problem on the same model notebook However I can clarify further what is happening. I am typing this on my usb keyboard after a resume from suspend to RAM. I also use a usb mouse most of the time. The problem is that whilst everthing else seems to wake up fine, neither the internal keyboard or touchpad work. But usb devices do! Hence the system appears to be dead because there is no input available. Here is the info you requested plus some more suggested on the ACPI page. Also the "KernelSuspendDebugging" page doesn't exist! uname -a : Linux tygra 2.6.20-10-generic #2 SMP Mon Mar 12 00:02:49 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux ** Attachment added: "dmesg" http://librarian.launchpad.net/6839399/dmesg.log -- Suspend to RAM does not work well on HP notebook nx7400 in feisty https://launchpad.net/bugs/81767 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
