[Bug 894655] Re: Settings schema 'im.telepathy.MissionControl.FromEmpathy' is not installed

2012-01-26 Thread JanBrinkmann
This is another papercut bug. Same over here after 11.10 upgrade
(amd64).

No offense at all and please dont take this personal:
I know that the most of you guys only volunteer to make Ubuntu happen, but
shouldn't quality be important than release quantity? This is probably the
wrong place for such a discussion, but 11.10 really makes me sad. After ~8
years on the Linux desktop and approx. ~4 years of Ubuntu I'm really about to
leave the Linux desktop behind me. All those smaller problems, in addition to
the really unstable and slow unity, simply suck.

Marking this on as fixed as the support was added in 1.0.15 which is

fixes a serious issue like dataloss or something like that. Thank you

Re: [Bug 509102] Re: dont detect cdrom in IBM HS21, ubuntu server 9.10

2010-01-23 Thread JanBrinkmann
hi

the behaviour you described could be related to the ibm cdrom drive.
on ibm x3650 the serveraid bootable cds suffer from the same problem:
the system boots, you can configure everything but when it wants to
update the serveraid firmware it tells you couldnt read image
files . if you burn the cd with 2x speed or use an external cdrom
everything works as expected. maybe give it a try.

best regards
Jan Brinkmann

[Bug 509102] Re: dont detect cdrom in IBM HS21, ubuntu server 9.10

2010-01-22 Thread JanBrinkmann
Thank you very much for reporting your problems. This helps to improve
the quality of Ubuntu. However, there are a few informations needed:

- Which version do you use: Ubuntu 9.10 i386 or amd64?
- Which Install CD do you use?: alternate, server, desktop?

I've just tested this in an Bladecenter E. I can boot the CD itself. However,
there is a limitation with IBM CD-ROM drives which I've seen:
- A possible reason (IBM related) could be that you've burned the CD with
speed 2x . Newer IBM CD-ROM drives seem to have problems . There are other
IBMs in the xseries which suffer from that problem, too. Try to burn the image
with 2x.

- Another idea: Is the KVM attached to the right blade?

An ultimate way to find out if the ISO itself is the problem would it be
to use the 'remote console' . You can add the ISO as 'remote drive'. If
that works ok, it's probably an issue which isn't related to the install
cds.

It was a fresh 8.04 install and I'm not sure if it would be right to add
a dependency (maybe overkill?) or to patch postinst to make it
conditional.

Thanks you for the feedback. However, you're only required to change the
configuration once and then get the output (maybe simply into textfiles
in the first step). It's really important that you obtain the
information when you're using the broken environment.

Thank you very much for providing the information and for helping to

once and change to driver which causes problems. The output of all the
listed commands is needed with the problematic driver in place to aid
the debugging process.

[Bug 335895] Re: Rythmbox won't play any CD

2009-03-08 Thread JanBrinkmann
Thanks for the feedback. You can select the default multimedia player:

System - Preferences - Preferred Applications

It's also possible to startup an mediaplayer if you insert an audio CD.
Gnome asks you what to do when you insert a audio CD. Maybe you've told
gnome to remember you decision about 'do nothing'? Examining the
information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report
so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support
tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would
make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker

[Bug 335823] Re: firefox crash when loading a page

2009-03-08 Thread JanBrinkmann
Could you please try to obtain a backtrace by following the instructions on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs? Also, please answer these questions:
Is this crash reproducible? If so, which are the steps that lead to it?
Which flash package do you have installed?
Which Java package do you have installed?
Which Firefox extensions do you have installed?

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem. Maybe try to use
a new Firefox profile:

Start Firefox by entering the following command is a terminal: firefox
-ProfileManager. You should now see the Profile Manager window.

Important note: From the Profile Manager you are also able to remove and
rename profiles. Be very careful when deleting profiles, if you created
the profile in a directory that already existed, the entire directory
will be removed!

Click on the 'Create Profile...' button to start the 'Create Profile
Wizard'. Click 'Next' and enter a descriptive name for the new profile.
Click Finish to have Firefox create the new profile. You should now be
taken back to the Profile Manager and the newly created profile should
be listed. Select it and click 'Start Firefox'. Try to reproduce the bug
with this new profile.

Note: you can go back to your own profile by starting Firefox using the
command firefox -ProfileManager again, selecting your own profile, and
clicking on 'Start Firefox'.

2009-03-08 Thread JanBrinkmann
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

Thank you very much for the report. That really helps to improve Ubuntu!
I can confirm this behaviour on Intrepid using Firefox 3.0.7 (3.0.7

10.0.22.87ubuntu1~intrepid1 . Changed package to 'flashplugin-nonfree',
since it also doesnt work using another browser (like seamonkey).

Behaviour expected:
- visit http://store.nike.com, select language and country and then start
surfing on the main page (with the main flash animation displayed!).

Current behaviour:
- the navigation on the left starts correctly, but the main flash animation

2009-03-08 Thread JanBrinkmann
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make
Ubuntu better. However, it seems that you are not using a software
package provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. Because of this
the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug. Please
report this bug to the provider of the software package. Thanks! To
workaround the problem, try to use a new firefox profile:

Start Firefox by entering the following command is a terminal: firefox
-ProfileManager. You should now see the Profile Manager window.

Important note: From the Profile Manager you are also able to remove and
rename profiles. Be very careful when deleting profiles, if you created

[Bug 306038] Re: vlc multimedia plugin

2009-03-03 Thread JanBrinkmann
Thanks!

[Bug 272479] Re: No Sound on Just Installed Ubuntu

2009-03-02 Thread JanBrinkmann
No, a sound chip is a sound chip. There are chips which are only usable
in windows maschines, because there are only (fully) usable using
windows because of driver issues. However, it would be really nice if
you could provide the output requested by Mackenzie Morgan, using the
soundcard which you tried to use when you reported the problem .
That's important for the debugging process.

[Bug 247128] Re: browsing website crashes firefox

2009-03-02 Thread JanBrinkmann
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. I tried this on Ubuntu 8.10 using firefox 3.0.6 .
Unfortunately, I was not able to reproduce this behaviour, i.e. I can
click 'next' and another page opens. Please answer these questions:

1. Is this still reproducible for you using an up2date firefox release?
2. If so, can you try reproduce this using a fresh firefox profile?:

[Bug 234579] Re: Impossible to make an event that stretches across midnight

2009-03-02 Thread JanBrinkmann
I can confirm this on 8.10 i386 using :

* thunderbird 2.0.0.19+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.10.1
* lightning-extension 0.8+nobinonly-0ubuntu1

Creating such an event really makes sense. Now, it's up to the
developers to decide! Maybe this bug has to be reported upstream?
