It doesn't seem to be a ditaa problem but an openjdk problem? I also get
the error when I try to start other java apps on 14.04 without exec -
but on 15.10 (openjdk version "1.8.0_91") it is ok.

[Bug 215802] Re: rtl8187 link quality poor

2015-11-20 Thread Janet
This problem still is around :(. I have tried Kubuntu 15.04/15.10 and
Netrunner 16 and the RTL8187 card is alive and finds the router (and
internet) right after login. But a few seconds later the connection is
dead although the network manager applet, iwconfig and my router's
clients list still show the connection as being alive and good. But no
ping to the router is possible anymore.

The card is identified by lsusb as Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0bda:8187
Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8187 Wireless Adapter & lsmod shows two
modules used by rtl8187: mac80211 and cfg80211 (Kernel 3.19).

[Bug 213215] Re: Please include original cdrecord (cdrtools) package in Ubuntu

2013-07-09 Thread Not Janet
Please, add this text even if you are 100% sure, that you don't *need*
to grant the permission

Schily, what's wrong with adding those words, even if they are
redundant?

What's wrong with acting irrationally even if you're not? It appears
you are applying pressing to the wrong party here.

I had a conversation with Schily. As far as the political/social aspects go,
I'm satisfied with his explanations and I strongly feel he needs our support.

Amen.

So please do not ask me to do things that you won't ask from other projects.

Reasonable men will not.

Now Mantas came up with a proposal that is based on trying to force
me to accept worse conditions for cdrtools than other OSS projects
 are given.

That is neither reasonable nor acceptable. Remain steadfast.

Thank you very much Schily, hope your work now will be included into free
 GNU/Linux distributions.

Hope? Will you not also apply pressure to the other parties in this
issue? Such that the public sphere may observe?

To that end what progress has since been accompished?

[Bug 1177804] [NEW] Rhythmbox crashes when you attempt to synch to an iPhone 4s running iOS 6.1.3

2013-05-08 Thread Janet Lowther
Public bug reported:

Rhythmbox closes when you attempt to synch to an iPhone 4s running iOS
6.1.3

The first couple times, there was an Ubuntu error window, asking for
permission to send a bug report, which was granted.

It's at least better than Banshee, which took Compiz with it. . .

[Bug 1033031] Re: antiquated cursor themes in K/ubuntu - missing cursors and sizes

2012-08-05 Thread Janet
@Shawn Peterson: Until this is fixed in K/Uubntu you can symlink the
missing cursor names in your favorite theme.

I have symlinked the following cursors in the contrast large theme (one
that looks odd in K/Ubuntu) and it works:

ln -s xterm text
ln -s xterm ibeam
ln -s hand pointing_hand
ln -s hand pointer
ln -s question_arrow help
ln -s question_arrow whats_this
ln -s fleur size_all
ln -s fleur all-scroll
ln -s top_left_corner size_fdiag
ln -s top_right_corner size_bdiag
ln -s top_side size_ver
ln -s right_side size_hor
ln -s watch wait

Nonetheless the oxygen theme also should be updated by K/Ubuntu because
of the cursor size.

[Bug 1033031] [NEW] antiquated cursor themes in K/ubuntu - missing cursors and sizes

2012-08-04 Thread Janet
Public bug reported:

It seems Ubuntu (Kubuntu 12.04 here, KDE SC 4.9) uses a set of rather
antiquated cursors. The oxygen-cursor-theme oxygen-cursor-theme-extra
packages are version 2010-05-10-kde4.4.3 while the current oxygen
cursors according to Debian Sid are at least 2012-06-kde4.8.2

The K/ubuntu version of the oxygen cursors doesn't use different sizes
but since KDE SC 4.8 it is possible to choose different cursor sizes if
the theme contains different sizes. The current oxygen cursors are
available in size 24 and 48, but not the Kubuntu ones. In Kubuntu the
size chooser is greyed out whereas it works in Debian Sid with the
current oxygen cursor package.

I am not sure but I guess this reported (and presumably invalid) bug also has
its cause in the antiquated cursor package of K/ubuntu:

2010-09-11 Thread Janet
As i haven't found an according daisy package I took the 0.0.4.23
sources from the daisy homepage and compiled it myself. No problems,
that does work. Seems to be fixed.

[Bug 630879] [NEW] quickaccess widget widget in panel does not respect panel icon size

2010-09-05 Thread Janet
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: plasma-widget-quickaccess

Affects KDE SC 4.5: When I set the panel icons' size to max 48 or higher
in systemsettings all application launcher and menu icons adjust to this
size when the panel is dragged to be higher. Some special icons like
trash, show dashboard, show desktop and the quickaccess widget don't
respect/follow these settings, their icons in the panel stay at tiny
32x32 size even in panel with 128x128 icons. Looks odd and makes it hard
to work with that widget.

As Kubuntu uses the quickaccess widget as panel default to display the
content of the home folder I think this should be reported (and fixed?)
here.

[Bug 630879] Re: quickaccess widget widget in panel does not respect panel icon size

2010-09-05 Thread Janet
Thanks for confirming. I see that there are a lot more important things
to do. But please keep in mind that there are people with not so good
eyes. For them (like me) the importance is not low. In KDE 4.4 I was
forced to use small panel icons (something just below 48) but all had
the same size. Now with 4.5 I finally can increase the panel icons to my
preferred size of 80x80 - but that throws the quickaccess icons in the
panel (yes, I use more than one for individual menus) to tiny size 32x32
(not 46 or 47 as in 4.4). So the situation got worse for this widget.

[Bug 218202] Re: numlockx does not turn num lock keyboard light on.

2010-08-04 Thread Janet
I *don't* use numlockx. I have turned numlock on via systemsettings
(KDE). Nonetheless I have the problem that when numlock is on, the LED
is turned *off* and when numlock is off, the LED is on. Should be vice-
versa. It only happens when I'm in X - it does work as expected in the
virtual terminals.

Re: [Bug 593486] Re: website can't be found by firefox

2010-07-05 Thread Janet Shelly
Hello Marc

I hope you will receive this because I have a feeling
this is very important to others.  -- The bug or what ever it is -- is
NOT my internet connection.  However, it took me 2 reformats with
reinstalls; and same and worse problem to get it figured out.  I am not a
technical person so please bare with my language of descriptions.  --
Here is what created the problems I am going to explain.  Firefox.  I
got a massive update on firefox and some totems.  I went from the 3.0 to
3.6.6.  The following are the things that began to happen.
1.
Various websites that I visit almost every day -- I could not get to.  I
would get the white message that said:  Page Load Error -- website
server cannot be found by firefox.  Not being able to access said
websites could easily put me out of business on my own website.  These
particular websites I could not access are websites that I reply on to
update my website.  Rely on for the link information.  My website is:
http://www.healingcove.com looking at it you will understand my
statement.

2.  My website was the next major problem.  During
this time frame I was doing a massive update -- As I was trying to work
on my website it began to freeze.  I cleared my cache and cookies and
history -- and doing so did nothing.  Made no difference.  So I did a
publish -- but my website did not publish.  I rebooted I read everything
I could find -- nothing made a difference.

3.  Other odd and
rather upsetting things began to happen -- and the thought that came to
mind -- these strange things were as if I was back on Microsoft -- and
had picked up a terrible virus -- yet I have nothing on my computer
Microsoft -- I run OS Ubuntu 8.04.  -- I was ready to call my computer
technician to come see what might be wrong with my computer -- when
suddenly I got a pop up that said that I had various add on's that were
out of date.  I signed on to Synaptic Package Manager -- checked my add
on packages -- ALL were up to date -- so now it was really puzzling --
out of frustration I clicked on Firefox and then all the packages that
hold the add ons that were supposedly out of date -- and selected:
Update and then I also selected:  Repair Broken Packages.

4.
Outcome of above.  I got the red arrow that means I have more updates --
9-more firefox updates popped up and 3 totems.  I did those updates --
rebooted -- went back to Synaptic -- repeated the updates and Repair
Broken Packages -- rebooted again.  Outcome:
A.  I could sign on to
my vital websites
B.  I could edit and update my own website.
C.
The other strange and odd things began to stop -- and within an hour of
all this my computer was working correctly except for one thing.  That
one thing is the Firefox Icon disappeared and a strange black icon
replaced it -- so I deleted that black icon that looked like a turned
off Monitor -- and replaced it with the Firefox Icon -- which tells me I
 am doing 3.6.6

So my personal conclusion is -- that when Firefox
does that massive update -- it has problems... or what you call bugs.
-- I cannot reach Firefox to try to explain this -- but it certainly is a
horrifying experience.  -- I am a retired senior citizen my brain does
not work quickly any more -- so reporting problems to Ubuntu was the
only thing I could think to do -- and I hope this information will help
others not to go through what I have.  -- For I swear to you -- it was
like the nightmare I would go through with Microsoft when I used to get
Virus.  That is why I switched to Ubuntu.  -- This computer has never
had anything Microsoft.  It will infact be 1-year old July 19 -- my
birthday.  My remaining concern -- I need to upgrade to Ubuntu 10.4 --
but now worry will I go through more things like this.

Sincerely,

Janet
 Shelly

[Bug 546781] Re: Plasma widget Adjustable Clock crash entire plasma-desktop

2010-05-02 Thread Janet
I can confirm this. I tested it with a fresh lucid install and two
updated ones (from karmic). The 2.2 package from universe always crashes
the whole plasma desktop when the settings of the widget are closed, no
matter if you have the widget on the desktop or in the panel. I too have
compiled 2.2 from sources and it works fine, it's just the universe
package that seems to be faulty.

[Bug 573643] [NEW] Lucid: launcher icons in panel shrink on making the panel higher

2010-05-02 Thread Janet
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

In Karmic/KDE 4.3 it was possible to have a panel with menu/launcher
icons in size 48x48 and a two row systemtray. When I made the panel
higher the launcher icons nonetheless kept their size of 48x48 (instead
of increasing their size further).

But now in Lucid/KDE 4.4.2 the launcher icons in the panel even behave
worse and *shrink* when I make the panel higher. The icons don't reach
full 48x48 size anymore as it seems and at the point where you make the
panel that high that the systemtray gets two rows the launcher icons
jump from roundabout size 44x44 to roundabout size 32x32.

With Lucid/KDE 4.4.2 it is not possible anymore to have a two row
systemtray and at the same time big enough launcher icons in the panel.

Especially for not eagle eyed people using high display resolutions
that's unpleasant. Besides it is illogical to shrink the icons when the
panel gets higher. And when you get the maximum height of the launcher
icons the systemtray wastes horizontal space because lining its icons
up in one row. And it looks ugly when you have a one row systemtray with
a lot of unused space above an below the icons. As it looks ugly (with a
two row system tray) to have small launcher icons with a lot of unused
space above and below the icons.

getting the divided screen outside of X but also a very ugly Plymouth

[Bug 542104] Re: KRes-migrator runs, starting Akonadi on a clean install (wastes 25 MB RAM)

2010-04-03 Thread Janet
You lucky one got the converter started! Though it would be unnecessary
if the default addressbook type would be set to akonadi, this is better
than nothing. I got nothing, no converter on my installs. Kmail just
didn't find the entries I made in kaddressbook after installation. No
hint at all why. But the behaviour described by you and the behaviour
described by me obviously have the same culprit. So the default
addressbook type really should be an akonadi resource, and if it is just
to not cause newbies headaches on trying to find out why their contacts
are not accessible when they want to write a new mail.

[Bug 554399] [NEW] Default Address Book type in KDE resources is vcf file though kaddressbook uses Akonadi

2010-04-02 Thread Janet
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdepim

In Lucid Kmail cannot find addressbook entries out of the box. This
happens because the new KDE SC 4.4 kaddressbook stores its content in an
akonadi resource whereas in the KDE resources part of systemsettings the

to file (vcf).

The default address book type should be set to akonadi resource so that
everybody has the addressbook entries available directly after adding
them without the need to dig into the depth of systemsettings' advanded
section.

[Bug 553309] [NEW] plasma-widget-daisy lets plasma desktop crash when yakuake is shown

2010-04-01 Thread Janet
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: plasma-widget-daisy

I'm using KDE 4.4.2 on Lucid (development branch, 32bit). On my desktop
I have the daisy widget as menu bar at the left side. Since the update
from KDE 4.4.1 to 4.4.2 the plasma desktop crashes reproducably when I
open the yakuake konsole and then click on anything on the desktop. It
doesn't happen when I remove the daisy widget from the desktop.

The plasma-widget-daisy version is 0.0.4.22a-0ubuntu2.

@#7: Not really like that. The screen isn't split in the middle but in
the upper quarter which shows the bottom squeezed. And in X/KDE
everything looks fine. It's just out of X: bootsplash, alternate
installer, virtual consoles. It also does happen in Beta1.

[Bug 521018] Re: lucid: horizontally divided screen on/after installation

2010-02-27 Thread Janet
With Kubuntu Lucid Alpha 3 (i386) the divided screen only is shown out
of X. That means the bootsplash (of the desktop live CD and
installation) is horizontally divided and when I'm on a virtual console
(which also affects the alternate installer as shown in the screenshot
above). The login screen of KDM and the KDE desktop is ok. So I guess
it's not xserver-xorg-video-sis?

[Bug 421163] Re: phy0: not handling 0x02 type control frame-message floods logs

2010-02-12 Thread Janet
What's this phy0? In Karmic with kernel 2.6.31-20 the messages that
flood the logs still persist but now read e.g. kernel: [1739.005114]
phy0: radar (freq: 2427 MHz). Other freq numbers are 2417, 2412. That
produces more systemload than necessary, slows down the system and
wastes disk space.

[Bug 462993] Re: German strings too long on user information in Kubuntu installer

2010-01-31 Thread Janet
Maybe consider using line-breakage and shorten the translated text to
the length of the English text? German translators tend to narrate,
extensively describe and tell tales when it comes to labeling buttons,
lists etc. instead of orienting on the length of the English text and
use precise but short text.

I know of users who didn't dare to install because they didn't know what
the difference between the entries was.

[Bug 339392] Re: [needs-packaging] grub-gfxboot

2009-08-23 Thread Janet
I second this. By now you need to use a grub-gfxboot package from
another distribution when you want to use grub-gfxboot. This leads to
problems when updating the kernel because Ubuntu uses another syntax in
the /boot/grub/menu.lst than the distributions from which you can take
the grub-gfxboot package.

Ubuntu uses the entry uuid followed by the partition-uuid whereas the
grub-gfxboot from other distributions uses root (hdx,x). This leads to
the entry root followed by the partition-uuid after updating the
kernel and with this entry grub is not able to boot Ubuntu.

I'd also love to the grub-gfxboot as default grub, especially with the
shiny KDE4 Kubuntu Karmic. It's hard for me to explain people for whom I
install Kubuntu Look how great this is, bling-bling here and there -
and, er, cough, that's the boot menu... see, at least it's...
functional

[Bug 398373] [NEW] WiFi is not working since 8.10 on my Lenovo S10e

2009-07-12 Thread Janet Jackson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-nettool

My computer is a Lenovo S10e with the special Ubuntu 9.04 for netbooks.
It has a Broadcom WiFi device with an Ubuntu driver (Broadcom STA) but it won't
log in though the WiFi is recognized.
Obviously there is a problem with the WPA.
There is just ONE and not recommendable solution: when trying to log in I have
to connect the computer with an ethernet cable. Then during I have a ethernet
connect the WiFi starts to accept the password and I can disconnect from
ethernet, surfing the WiFi.
However, this is not working properly because each new login either needs
several minutes or the connection again fails.

According to my observations there is a problem with the acceptance of
the password. Either it is not submitted or the router has problems with
WPA.
