[Bug 213215] Re: Please include original cdrecord (cdrtools) package in Ubuntu
Please, add this text even if you are 100% sure, that you don't *need* to grant the permission Schily, what's wrong with adding those words, even if they are redundant? What's wrong with acting irrationally even if you're not? It appears you are applying pressing to the wrong party here. I had a conversation with Schily. As far as the political/social aspects go, I'm satisfied with his explanations and I strongly feel he needs our support. Amen. So please do not ask me to do things that you won't ask from other projects. Reasonable men will not. Now Mantas came up with a proposal that is based on trying to force me to accept worse conditions for cdrtools than other OSS projects are given. That is neither reasonable nor acceptable. Remain steadfast. Thank you very much Schily, hope your work now will be included into free GNU/Linux distributions. Hope? Will you not also apply pressure to the other parties in this issue? [Bug 1033031] [NEW] antiquated cursor themes in K/ubuntu - missing cursors and sizes
Public bug reported: It seems Ubuntu (Kubuntu 12.04 here, KDE SC 4.9) uses a set of rather antiquated cursors. The oxygen-cursor-theme oxygen-cursor-theme-extra packages are version 2010-05-10-kde4.4.3 while the current oxygen cursors according to Debian Sid are at least 2012-06-kde4.8.2 The K/ubuntu version of the oxygen cursors doesn't use different sizes but since KDE SC 4.8 it is possible to choose different cursor sizes if the theme contains different sizes. The current oxygen cursors are available in size 24 and 48, but not the Kubuntu ones. In Kubuntu the size chooser is greyed out whereas it works in Debian Sid with the current oxygen cursor package. I am not sure but I guess this reported (and presumably invalid) bug also has its cause in the antiquated cursor package of K/ubuntu: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=304263 ** Affects: oxygencursors (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1033031 Title: antiquated cursor themes in K/ubuntu - missing cursors and sizes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/oxygencursors/+bug/1033031/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 630879] Re: quickaccess widget widget in panel does not respect panel icon size
Thanks for confirming. I see that there are a lot more important things to do. But please keep in mind that there are people with not so good eyes. For them (like me) the importance is not low. In KDE 4.4 I was forced to use small panel icons (something just below 48) but all had the same size. Now with 4.5 I finally can increase the panel icons to my preferred size of 80x80 - but that throws the quickaccess icons in the panel (yes, I use more than one for individual menus) to tiny size 32x32 (not 46 or 47 as in 4.4). Made no difference. So I did a publish -- but my website did not publish. I rebooted I read everything I could find -- nothing made a difference. 3. Other odd and rather upsetting things began to happen -- and the thought that came to mind -- these strange things were as if I was back on Microsoft -- and had picked up a terrible virus -- yet I have nothing on my computer Microsoft -- I run OS Ubuntu 8.04. -- I was ready to call my computer technician to come see what might be wrong with my computer -- when suddenly I got a pop up that said that I had various add on's that were out of date. I signed on to Synaptic Package Manager -- checked my add on packages -- ALL were up to date -- so now it was really puzzling -- out of frustration I clicked on Firefox and then all the packages that hold the add ons that were supposedly out of date -- and selected: Update and then I also selected: Repair Broken Packages. 4. Outcome of above. I got the red arrow that means I have more updates -- 9-more firefox updates popped up and 3 totems. I did those updates -- rebooted -- went back to Synaptic -- repeated the updates and Repair Broken Packages -- rebooted again. Outcome: A. I could sign on to my vital websites B. I could edit and update my own website. C. The other strange and odd things began to stop -- and within an hour of all this my computer was working correctly except for one thing. That one thing is the Firefox Icon disappeared and a strange black icon replaced it -- so I deleted that black icon that looked like a turned off Monitor -- and replaced it with the Firefox Icon -- which tells me I am doing 3.6.6 So my personal conclusion is -- that when Firefox does that massive update -- it has problems... or what you call bugs. -- I cannot reach Firefox to try to explain this -- but it certainly is a horrifying experience. -- I am a retired senior citizen my brain does not work quickly any more -- so reporting problems to Ubuntu was the only thing I could think to do -- and I hope this information will help others not to go through what I have. -- For I swear to you -- it was like the nightmare I would go through with Microsoft when I used to get Virus. That is why I switched to Ubuntu. -- This computer has never had anything Microsoft. It will infact be 1-year old July 19 -- my birthday. My remaining concern -- I need to upgrade to Ubuntu 10.4 -- but now worry will I go through more things like this. [Bug 573643] [NEW] Lucid: launcher icons in panel shrink on making the panel higher
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace In Karmic/KDE 4.3 it was possible to have a panel with menu/launcher icons in size 48x48 and a two row systemtray. When I made the panel higher the launcher icons nonetheless kept their size of 48x48 (instead of increasing their size further). But now in Lucid/KDE 4.4.2 the launcher icons in the panel even behave worse and *shrink* when I make the panel higher. The icons don't reach full 48x48 size anymore as it seems and at the point where you make the panel that high that the systemtray gets two rows the launcher icons jump from roundabout size 44x44 to roundabout size 32x32. With Lucid/KDE 4.4.2 it is not possible anymore to have a two row systemtray and at the same time big enough launcher icons in the panel. Especially for not eagle eyed people using high display resolutions that's unpleasant. Besides it is illogical to shrink the icons when the panel gets higher. And when you get the maximum height of the launcher icons the systemtray wastes horizontal space because lining its icons up in one row. And it looks ugly when you have a one row systemtray with a lot of unused space above an below the icons. As it looks ugly (with a two row system tray) to have small launcher icons with a lot of unused space above and below the icons. ** Affects: kdebase-workspace (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - launcher icons in panel shrink on making the panel higher + Lucid: launcher icons in panel shrink on making the panel higher -- Lucid: launcher icons in panel shrink on making the panel higher https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/573643 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdebase-workspace in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

You lucky one got the converter started! Though it would be unnecessary if the default addressbook type would be set to akonadi, this is better than nothing. I got nothing, no converter on my installs. Kmail just didn't find the entries I made in kaddressbook after installation. No hint at all why. But the behaviour described by you and the behaviour described by me obviously have the same culprit. [Bug 421163] Re: phy0: not handling 0x02 type control frame-message floods logs
What's this phy0? In Karmic with kernel 2.6.31-20 the messages that flood the logs still persist but now read e.g. kernel: [1739.005114] phy0: radar (freq: 2427 MHz). Other freq numbers are 2417, 2412. That produces more systemload than necessary, slows down the system and wastes disk space. [Bug 462993] Re: German strings too long on user information in Kubuntu installer
Maybe consider using line-breakage and shorten the translated text to the length of the English text? German translators tend to narrate, extensively describe and tell tales when it comes to labeling buttons, lists etc. instead of orienting on the length of the English text and use precise but short text. I know of users who didn't dare to install because they didn't know what the difference between the entries was. -- German strings too long on user information in Kubuntu installer https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/462993 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 421163] [NEW] phy0: not handling 0x02 type control frame-message floods logs
Public bug reported: I'm using Kubuntu Jaunty and the syslog.0, kernel.log.0 and debug.0 in /var/log/ are flooded with the message phy0: not handling 0x02 type control frame. There exists a similar bug report for Intrepid, but it is marked as fixed (bug #248455). The message appears about 160-180 times per minute and the three logs grow more than 1 MB per minute. [Bug 339392] Re: [needs-packaging] grub-gfxboot
I second this. By now you need to use a grub-gfxboot package from another distribution when you want to use grub-gfxboot. This leads to problems when updating the kernel because Ubuntu uses another syntax in the /boot/grub/menu.lst than the distributions from which you can take the grub-gfxboot package. Ubuntu uses the entry uuid followed by the partition-uuid whereas the grub-gfxboot from other distributions uses root (hdx,x). This leads to the entry root followed by the partition-uuid after updating the kernel and with this entry grub is not able to boot Ubuntu. I'd also love to the grub-gfxboot as default grub, especially with the shiny KDE4 Kubuntu Karmic. It's hard for me to explain people for whom I install Kubuntu Look how great this is, bling-bling here and there - and, er, cough, that's the boot menu... see, at least it's... functional -- [needs-packaging] grub-gfxboot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/339392 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 398373] [NEW] WiFi is not working since 8.10 on my Lenovo S10e
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-nettool My computer is a Lenovo S10e with the special Ubuntu 9.04 for netbooks. It has a Broadcom WiFi device with an Ubuntu driver (Broadcom STA) but it won't log in though the WiFi is recognized. Obviously there is a problem with the WPA. There is just ONE and not recommendable solution: when trying to log in I have to connect the computer with an ethernet cable. Then during I have a ethernet connect the WiFi starts to accept the password and I can disconnect from ethernet, surfing the WiFi. However, this is not working properly because each new login either needs several minutes or the connection again fails. According to my observations there is a problem with the acceptance of the password. Either it is not submitted or the router has problems with WPA. ** Affects: gnome-nettool (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- WiFi is not working since 8.10 on my Lenovo S10e https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/398373 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
