[Bug 600280] [NEW] Focus on terminator window not enough to drop URGENT
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: terminator I'm in a system running the Netbook Environment, an up-to-date Lucid. In terminator's settings, I have 'Terminal bell' set to be shown as 'Window list flash'. This goes nicely together with irssi (which I'm running through ssh on a remote server) being set to ring the bell on messages I want to be informed of. However, when the window list is flashing, and I bring the terminator window on top, it doesn't clear the URGENT — i.e. the window list keeps on flashing. Furthermore, in a split terminator window, if I left- click on the segment running irssi, which raised the URGENT, the flashing still won't stop. I have to type something into the terminal to make the flashing stop. I'm not too familiar with the inner workings and relations between the different signals involved in here, but I presume the flashing should stop when the window with URGENT is activated, or brought on top, or at least when the segment in question is activated (or left-clicked). Steps to reproduce: 1. Set 'Terminal bell' to make 'Window list flash' in terminator's settings. 2. Run an app that rings the terminal bell in terminator after a while. 3. De-activate terminator's window (bring another app on top) and wait for the bell. 4. When terminator flashes in window list, activate it. Expected result: Terminator's flashing in the window list stops. Actual result: Terminator keeps flashing in the window list until I type something into its window. ** Affects: terminator (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Focus on terminator window not enough to drop URGENT https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/600280 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 569976] Re: Youtube videos jitter in full-screen mode [worked with Ubuntu 9.10]
I have a system that's affected by either this or #570164. I can verify that back in Karmic fullscreen playback of flash video on this system worked flawlessly. In addition, using the proprietary nvidia driver playback (now in Lucid) works fine, but the nv driver suffers from the stuttering too (the log I'm attaching is from the nv setup). I'd much prefer using the OSS drivers as the proprietary one has its own problems, but currently it's the only way to go if I want fullscreen flash to work properly. ** Attachment added: Xorg.0.log with NV driver in place http://launchpadlibrarian.net/50976115/Xorg.0.log -- Youtube videos jitter in full-screen mode [worked with Ubuntu 9.10] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/569976 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 577486] Re: Icons revealed when hovering over an update do not have an explanatory tooltip
I would go further than the original report and say that the icons are pretty useless in themselves: an envelope with an arrow does... what? Email the status to somebody? And a set of gears... huh? Icons ought to be as self-evident as possible, and having to hover over them to see the tooltips to understand their meaning is a failure in the icons' design IMO. With most statuses being quite limited in length, there's plenty of screen real estate available, so why not just use text indicators for each of the icon's functions, such as 'Reply' and 'More...'? (Hope I'm not making this sound too brash, I think Gwibber is an excellent tool and this is a minor annoyance.) -- Icons revealed when hovering over an update do not have an explanatory tooltip https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/577486 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 429961] Re: ogmrip created a huge log file (70+ gb) and filled the fs
I have a DVD which, under Karmic, caused Ogmrip to behave the way described above. After upgrading to Lucid today, with Ogmrip 0.13.4-0ubuntu1, I was able to rip the disc without the problem of a huge log file being generated. The rip seems to have resulted in a misscaled copy though: I've set the maximum resolution to 320×240 in the profile I used, yet Ogmrip generated a 720×567 MP4. Therefore I'm not yet sure if the above issue has been fixed in Lucid's version of Ogmrip, or if the success I had with this rip was merely due to Ogmrip not doing any scaling for some reason. I'll try to look into it and will post more if I can verify either. -- ogmrip created a huge log file (70+ gb) and filled the fs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/429961 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 524497] [NEW] Positioning of login screen 'panel' inconsistent with desktop's
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm This has been bugging me for a long time now. There's a usability issue with the login screen's panel being at the bottom of the screen. It should be at the top, or at the very least the elements that are present in both the login screen and the desktop (the clock and shutdown menu) should be positioned consistently. It's very confusing as it stands, with the clock and the shutdown function jumping from the bottom of the login screen to the top of the desktop screen when we log in. Either the top of the screen is the accessibility-wise better place for these elements, in which case they should be there *during the login screen also*, or it isn't, in which case they shouldn't be there when we get to the desktop *either*. They shouldn't be in one place on one screen, in another place on another screen. I'm attaching a fancy little split-screen diagram of what I'm getting at, in addition to the stuff gathered by Apport. Sorry the picture uses my native language, I should have switched the VM's language prior to taking the screenshots. The shots are from an up-to-date Lucid, Apport's data is from my host which is running Karmic. [Bug 36832] Re: User switching is untransparent
If I'm reading the initial report correctly, it has the underlying presumption that there are only two desktop users. In a system with user Z in addition to users X and Y, I wouldn't expect to returned to user Y's (locked) desktop on X's log-out, but to a gdm login so that *either* of the other users Y and Z can log in from there. In fact I agree on the point of the report that user switching is untransparent, but do so because of the opposite reason: in a three-user system, when all three are logged in, being presented with the locked screen of another user when logging one out is what makes the switch untransparent. What I'd expect to see is the gdm login. I suspect there may be different bugs concerning different people here. As for Don's, where hiding/showing the GRUB menu seems to have an effect, I think it's different from #465317 and #444518 (and perhaps more in line with this one). Considering the frequency it did occur up until now, I'd say a week without problems warrants marking this issue as being resolved. -- Mounting home directory fails upon boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/481190 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 481190] [NEW] Mounting home directory fails upon boot
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mountall I'm remotely co-administering a laptop (a Fujitsu-Siemens Esprimo U9200) running Karmic, upgraded from Jaunty. The setup for the sole hard drive in the machine has a separate partition for the owner's home directory. A couple of times since the upgrade, the machine has failed to mount the user's home directory partition, resulting in seemingly reset settings of Gnome and everything else normally saved on that partition. On the next boot, or the one after that, the mounting again works, but apparently some of the automatically re-created settings under the home directory now interfere with the user's actual settings (i.e. those he has created himself), resulting in further complications. We've fixed this a couple of times now by removing the re-created settings, and recreating a blank home directory for mounting the separate partition to, but this is just a laborious work-around, needless to say. Mounting the directory at boot should Just Work. I have yet to configure ssh access for myself on the machine, so I'm not providing hard data (such as fstab or lspci listings) in this initial report, but I hope to be able to soon, and will update the report once I have more insight into what's actually going on during the boot. There are other obstacles as well, such as the recovery menu failing (have to resort to REISUB), and the usual removing of 'quiet' and 'splash' boot parameters not helping in seeing the boot messages ('splash' isn't even there, so don't know how to disable it, and so the messages flash by too quickly to see). Of the possible duplicates suggested by Launchpad, #447649 seemed most likely. There are a couple of sshfs mount points inside the user's home directory, mounted by a script run from under /etc/network/if-up.d/. #447649 soon gets a bit too technical for my understanding however, and it's marked as being fixed anyway, so in theory it shouldn't affect this issue. As I said, I'll be updating this as I find out more, but I figured I might as well report what's known so far, so if there's some insight on the issue as such already, it'll get posted here too. And as I'll gain the ssh access, I'll be happy to provide any data requested. Feel free to suggest what's useful. Oh, and the choice of 'mountall' for reporting this against was just a wild guess, since I truly have no clue of the real culprit yet. ** Affects: mountall (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: ubuntu-boot -- Mounting home directory fails upon boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/481190 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 268631] [NEW] Middle-clicking the Forward button opens an empty tab instead of visited page
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: epiphany-browser Steps to reproduce: 1) On webpage #1, click the middle mouse button on a link to open webpage #2 in a new tab. 2) Switch to the new tab (with webpage #2 in it), middle-click on the Back button to open webpage #1 in a new tab. 3) Switch to the third tab (with webpage #1 in it), middle-click on the Forward button. Expected result: To have a new tab open with webpage #2 loaded into it. Actual result: A new tab opens, but it's blank (no URL loaded). Middle-clicking the Back button in step 2 isn't necessary (left-clicking will do just as well); I just did it to make it clear how differently Back and Forward buttons seem to react to middle-clicking. This happens on Hardy with updates (Epiphany 2.22.2), which is my actual system, but I'm also able to reproduce this in Intrepid (Epiphany 2.23.91), and in Debian Lenny (Epiphany 2.22.3), both of which I run inside VirtualBox (inside my actual system). [Bug 254169] Re: wrong permissions on /tmp files makes it impossible to directly view with external viewer
I can confirm this with a freshly installed 8.04.1 + updates, when opening a .deb file. Steps to reproduce: 1. Go to http://virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads, Binaries (all platforms), select Ubuntu 8.04 (x86) and agree to the PUEL to get the download link. 2. Click on the download link to get the download action dialog. 3. Choose the default (Open with GDebi). What happens: Firefox says the file could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. What I expected to happen: To have the downloaded .deb file open in GDebi. -- wrong permissions on /tmp files makes it impossible to directly view with external viewer https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/254169 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 213734] Re: firefox-3.0 scrolls jerkily with ATI driver, EXA and compiz
I have a somewhat similar experience; there seem to be multiple bugs reported on Launchpad surrounding such issues (e.g. a href=https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- intel/+bug/177492#177492/a), but this one seems to come closest. I'm on Hardy (fully updated), I'll attach my Xorg.0.log here. Though I did notice the slowdown in scrolling with Firefox occasionally, I've since switched to using mainly Epiphany, and have found it to be much more susceptible to the same issue: after some time, scrolling becomes horribly sluggish. The CPU usage monitor I've added to my panel shows it's 100% during the scrolling. Once this happens, the issue remains until I either log out and back in, use fusionicon to 'Reload Window Manager', or disable desktop effects. Re-enabling them within the same session immediately re-introduces the problem. However, I'm using swfdec for flash, so at least in that respect this is different from the original report. I'm also unable to reproduce this at will; it does seem to happen multiple times a day, but I haven't found any particular website which would consistently trigger it (the URL given by the initial reporter doesn't do it either). This morning I booted the Intrepid alpha 4 Live CD. Changed the xorg.conf there to match my production environment (verified from Xorg.0.log that it was indeed using EXA and greedy for MigrationHeuristic), installed Epiphany and swfdec, then played around with Firefox and Epiphany for a while, trying to trigger this, but didn't manage to do so. Either the issue is fixed in Intrepid, or I just didn't happen to come across it during my testing. ** Attachment added: Xorg.0.log http://launchpadlibrarian.net/17134711/Xorg.0.log -- firefox-3.0 scrolls jerkily with ATI driver, EXA and compiz https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/213734 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 261399] [NEW] Fails to open a file with colon in filename, from the commandline

[Bug 259460] [NEW] Creative Commons license viewer is non-functional
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: epiphany-extensions This is on Hardy with all current updates (epiphany-extensions 2.22.2-0ubuntu0.8.04.1). When I enable the Creative Commons license viewer from Extensions, a 'CC' icon appears on the status bar. This happens even when there's no license metadata associated with the currently open tab (it shows when the visible tab has, for example, Gmail loaded into it) - I'd expect it not to appear in such case. Moving to another tab or another URL makes the 'CC' icon disappear. It doesn't re-appear (as I'd expect it to) when I go to creativecommons.org. If I click on the 'CC' icon when it's visible, I expect to be shown the CC license associated with the page, but nothing happens. This, again, apparently regardless of whether the page actually is CC licensed or not. If I start Epiphany from command-line, clicking on the 'CC' icon prints this on the console: Traceback (most recent call last): File /usr/lib/epiphany-gecko/2.22/extensions/cc-license-viewer.py, line 352, in _cc_button_pressed show_license(window) File /usr/lib/epiphany-gecko/2.22/extensions/cc-license-viewer.py, line 394, in show_license license_url = statusbar._cc_url AttributeError: 'epiphany.Statusbar' object has no attribute '_cc_url' ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 Date: Tue Aug 19 18:31:54 2008 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.04 Package: epiphany-extensions 2.22.2-0ubuntu0.8.04.1 PackageArchitecture: i386 ProcEnviron: SHELL=/bin/bash PATH=/home/username/bin/post-ocr-correction:/home/username/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games LANG=fi_FI.UTF-8 SourcePackage: epiphany-extensions Uname: Linux 2.6.24-19-generic i686 ** Affects: epiphany-extensions (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug -- Creative Commons license viewer is non-functional https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/259460 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 243566] [NEW] Picture (Theora) goes out of sync with sound (Vorbis)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem-gstreamer I'm using Hardy with all available updates installed. I've ripped a video from a DVD using Thoggen, producing a Theora+Vorbis .ogv as output. When I play back the resulting file using Totem- gstreamer, the picture goes out of sync with sound slowly but surely: after ten minutes of continuous playback the sound precedes the corresponding events in picture by about half a second. None of Totem- xine, Mplayer or VLC seem to be affected, so the video file itself is apparently not at fault here. I've also not detected such behavior with videos in other formats. The mis-sync seems to correct itself if I pause the playback, then continue it again.
