[Bug 451249] Re: [karmic] wlan doesn´t wo rk (Lucent/Agere 6.06)

2010-04-07 Thread Jari J. Lehtinen
Hey Chase

I have tested with the Karmic ppa-repos as suggested, and the dongle
works fine with the new firmware (and the firmware-file is of same
size as my previous one, dug from the net), so you can get it released
for Karmic.

I tested also Xubuntu Lucid Beta1 desktop-live and according to kern.log
the firmware is present there too.

Thanks

Jari

P.S. FYI: I have to use wicd, becuse the network-manager is unable to
operate sensibly in an enviroment where there are many basestations with
the same SSID operating on different channels. In my current wlan-
environment @utu.fi the nm obviously connects to weak station on channel
1 although the nearest basestation operates at channel 11 and the
connection drops and connects all the time. In nm it is not possible to
choose the right connection by hand, or not even see the available
channel information. With wicd I can choose the network and the channel
and use the net. The drawback with wicd is the current lack of vpn-
connections.

[Bug 550030] Re: uno.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in start_thread()

2010-04-03 Thread Jari J. Lehtinen
This error message was generated for me. It is the passwd command which
gave me system error, while trying to change a users password. I had no
OpenOffice or not even Firefox open.

The password management has been broken for at least 30 hours now. I am using
Lucid with standard repos (not proposed) and updating daily.
My current passwd is version 1:4.1.4.2-1ubuntu2

passwd -S user
works Ok

passwd user, passwd, sudo passwd, sudo passwd user
gives outout
Järjestelmävirhe
(=system error in finnish)

With GUI:s: As an administrator I can change users password, but it
there is no actual change. As a normal user i can not change my
password, because Authentication failed. and the original password
field is highlighted.

All users (7) can login with their passwords but currently the passwords
cannot be changed.

P.S I am not sure if this uno.bin apport reaction is related to this
authentication problem i have been having since Lucid update 1-apr-2010

[Bug 539463] Re: console-setup exited 141

2010-03-25 Thread Jari J. Lehtinen
Sorry I am unable to give the debug log, because I don have that disk
image of Kubuntu 10.04 daily live 2010-03-16 left.

So I tested the beta1 image:
kubuntu-10.04-beta1-desktop-i386.iso18-Mar-2010 02:06 679M
and the installer (ubiquity) worked fine, without errors, with finnish settings.

So, I think, this case can, for now being, be concidered solved, if
there are not similar problems left with other languages.

Yours

Jari

PS. The installer in todays(25.03.2010) Kubuntu-daily lacks user-setup
and summary, so the installation is without any user and is unusable for
unexperienced users. Also there is no control for grub-install.

2010-03-23 Thread Jari J. Lehtinen
The information I have given should be enough. The driver is simply
missing from the current installation medias and repos.

I could make the pcmcia-wlan-card to operate perfectly wit Ubuntu 9.10
by loading the driver from the net and adding it to /lib/frmware with
the name requested by the kernel (agere_sta_fw.bin).

Note thet there are two different versions of the driiver available of
which the other one is erroneus somehow. The working one is obvious if
you read the texts thoughtfully.

[Bug 526352] Re: Xorg crash on press Enter

2010-03-10 Thread Jari J. Lehtinen
Pressing the Enter key about 5-10 minutes after logging in via Gdm
causes an automatic logout to Gdm.

Affects me also. It is not nescassery the first Enter that logs you out,
but it is quite certain to happen within 5 to 10 minutes from logging
totally independent which software i am using (OO, Gedit, FFox, ...)

My Lucid Xorg runs with radeon-driver. I Guess it is an xorg or radeon issue,
not a kernel issue.
My current kernel is 2.6.32-16 and X.Org X Server 1.7.5 and Module radeon,
module version = 6.12.19

[Bug 344705] Re: IcedTea Plugin Doesnt Work

This plugin does not work allright on Firefox3.6 on Lucid.

On page
www.runescape.com end selecting Play Now
comes a playground which is located 1/3 of the screen left so 1/3 of the
playground is unvisible and 1/3 in the right side of the screen is blank.

At least two other people in the Finnish Ubuntuforum (forum.ubuntu-
fi.org) have tested this page and they have had similar results.

The gamepage works fine with Karmic+FF3.5.7+sun-java6-plugin.

[Bug 451249] [NEW] [karmic] wlan doesn´t work (Lucent/Agere 6.06)

2009-10-14 Thread Jari J. Lehtinen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-firmware

My laptop(F-S AmiloA7600) has a WLAN-card in the PCMCIA-slot of type
Lucent/Agere 6.06 (as Firmware determined by orinoco_cs 1.0) or
commercially named Lucent WaveLan.

I have tried both Ubuntu Karmic with the kernel 2.6.31-11 and Xubuntu
Karmic with kernel 2.6.31-12. The WLAN doesn´t work, it doesn´t show any
WLAN-networks as it should.

The hardware works fine with XUBUNTU Jaunty.

I think the reason is missing firmware agere_sta_fw.bin as reported in
the attached kern.log. See the end of the log, lines starting with Eth1.

I tried to reload the updated file, but the result was the same.

Additional error was that apport crashed because Firefox was already
open (in another workspace).

Ask more info (files etc.) if you need to fix this.
I am sorry that I can not tell the package etc, because I am still a little bit

I cleaned the directory /var/cache with apt-get clean, and reloaded the

dependencies.

So If there is not anyone else meeting this problem, my opinion is that
it was due an unnoticed temporary file transfer or harddisk error and
there is no reason to continue processing this bug report.

[Bug 17343] Re: special device /dev/fd0 does not exist

2008-11-18 Thread Jari J. Lehtinen
In intrepid with Gnome, adding module floppy (with modprobe or as an
inserted line in /etc/modules for permanent use) seems not to be enough.
When you click Places Floppy the drive rotates for a while but the
floppy does not get mounted.

Xubuntu intrepid recognized floppies after I changed the fs-type from
auto to vfat in /etc/fstab.

What an earth does the menu item Places Floppy and how to change
it's properties in Gnome.

I could force the floppy to be read in Gnome with command sudo mount
-a. Remaining trouble was, that I had not enough rights to unmount it
without root privileges.

Hello developers, there are still a markable number of people using
floppies, especially the elder ones. These kind of things should work
out of the box. Get some floppy drives to keep this thing in mind.

[Bug 275150] Re: xorg not detecting monitor

2008-10-17 Thread Jari J. Lehtinen
I'm having this trouble too with Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex Beta. This
recognition problem existed also in Hardy, but there was
displayconfigure-gtk to fix it with. Unluckily Intrepid doesn't have
it anymore. I've been able to fix the display with xrandr, but that not
ergonomic at all. The problem is the same with Kubuntu 8.10 Beta.

My monitor is 20-inch Trinitron CRT:
EIZO Flexscan T662-T
H: 30 -85 kHZ, V: 55 - 160 Hz
Recommended Resolution 1280x1024

In my opinion the recognition is one problem, but worse is that there is
no simple tool available to fix the problem in case the monitor is not
detected.

This bug exist also in 8.04(Hardy) Ubuntu Xubuntu (Proposed) and EeeBuntu.
And also Xulrunner add-on in finnish on Firefox is missing.
Very Critical for an average Finnish user of whom some, especially elder ones,
cannot read english at all.

2008-04-14 Thread Jari J. Lehtinen
I just upgraded my Gutsy to Hardy.
I Was visiting www.esa.int ant apparently a flashmovie did cause the crash.
I am too wondering, why this bug is marked invalid. At least for me it is valid.

[Bug 163090] Re: Login screen runs with different screen resolution than desktop

2007-12-29 Thread Jari J. Lehtinen
I'm having the same trouble along with some others on the ubuntu forums.
My desktops are running [EMAIL PROTECTED], but the login screen remains
[EMAIL PROTECTED], which doesn't look very nice on my monitor(Eizo Flexscan
T662-T).

According to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage the problem
seems to reside in package gdm. This phenomenom came to me along with
some updates to GutsyBeta, I thought it was due to an update of xorg.

Additionally, occasionally the user desktops also start with that ugly
resolution. Seems to me that there's something wrong with the hardware
recognition and the system configures the display system with default
settings against settings given in xorg.conf. And remember, this thing
worked fine with Feisty and in the early stages of Gutsy Beta.
