[Bug 1162706] [NEW] Power indicator gone missing.
Public bug reported: After installing yesterday's Ubuntu GNOME 13.04 daily image, I had a power indicator, but somewhere between completing the installation and now, I've lost it. I have installed a few other applications, but nothing I would expect to interfere. All extensions have been disabled. No change whether I'm on battery on AC power. I do still receive low power notifications through the notifications subsystem. Grah, I just realized I have a completely new set of wallpapers. I guess that's why they went missing. [Bug 973133] [NEW] Finger touch input is not registered correctly
Public bug reported: I'm running Ubuntu Desktop 12.04 64bit on an HP Elitebook 2760p. This occurs under Unity and gnome-shell, and I imagine any other DE. I am not sure what software provides the functionality I am discussing below, so please assign the bug accordingly. What is expected: When I use my finger tips to interact with the system, I expect the cursor to move to where my touch was registered. If I tap, I expect a click to be sent at the location where I tapped. If I tap and drag, I expect the cursor to follow my input. What happens instead: The cursor does not first move to where the tap was registered. When I tap, a click is sent to whatever happens to be below where the cursor is currently positioned. Tap and drag, again, starts from the location where the cursor was previously located, and uses a strange acceleration (the mouse cursor moves further away the faster I drag). In clearer terms, the touchscreen is behaving less like a tablet and more like a big, dumb trackpad. Despite these issues, the system's included stylus still functions exactly as expected. This was working as expected earlier in beta, and changed sometime after mid-February, when I originally installed Ubuntu from a then-current daily ISO. I had not used the installation for some time and recently discovered the issue. I had other issues with that installation, so I thought it wouldbe best to reinstall from today's daily ISO and ran 'aptitude full-upgrade'. The issue persists. Therefore, I believe this is a regression, and not something specific to my machine. [Bug 973979] [NEW] gnome-shell incorrectly renders desktop viewport
Public bug reported: Description:Ubuntu precise (development branch) Release:12.04 -- Sometimes, gnome-shell incorrectly renders the desktop viewport. This most recently happened when I moved a terminal window into a new workspace using the CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+Down keyboard shortcut. (I do not remember what may have triggered it the first time I encountered it, but I do work with multiple workspaces frequently). The first time it happened, the mouse was trapped into the secondary viewport, so mousing up to 'Activities', the clock, the notification area elements or the user menu was impossible. Reloading the shell (pressing ALT+F2, typing 'r', then pressing Enter) did not clear it up. To recover, I had to drop to a console (CTRL+ALT+F1), log in, and issue 'sudo reboot' (I'm sure there's a less drastic workaround, but really, I shouldn't have to know what that is). This reoccurred after a clean installation on the same machine. This time, the mouse could roam freely between the viewports. I forget what command I issued that finally tipped me off to the existence of the assembled array, but running 'sudo mdadm --detail /dev/md127' confirmed that it was the array I had just built. I mounted the array and viewed the contents of the text file to confirm. This did not occur when I built my array on my test and production servers running Ubuntu 10.04 Server 64bit, so I am calling this new and unexpected behavior, and filing it as a bug. Reinstalling from the same ISO, I used guided partitioning to completely wipe the root partition and reinstall the system. At the same time, I also told it to mount the array. * what testing was done before transitioning to 'plymouth' for lucid was green lighted for an LTS of all things * why did Canonical not investigate the true number of users affected * do we expect this to be resolved for lucid * if not, what do we need to do to prove there is community interest in having the solution backported for lucid an ugly bootscreen that appears for less than 10 seconds may seem unimportant, but this an LTS release, and a very large number of users really will hit this, therefore it is a big issue. I suffer from the ongoing plymouth/nouveau issues that prevent me from booting with the second display attached, and didn't get around to reconfiguring until just now. However, I did previously have this same configuration on this computer since Beta 1 was released. [Bug 553825] [NEW] nouveau: hangs on boot if second monitor is present
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Booting to the Ubuntu Alpha 3, Beta 1 and 20100331.2 Live CDs, Ubuntu hardlocks when plymouth should transition from the bootsplash to the X session (the bootscreen stays up, appears completed but has stopped animating, while the disc reads a bit longer, before eventually hardlocking). This occurs consistently on every boot. Both of my displays are connected by DVI, but I am unsure if this makes any difference. I workaround the issue by disconnecting my secondary display, complete the installation, boot into the OS, apply any pending updates, reboot, and install the restricted NVIDIA driver. Once installed, I can reattach the display and boot into Ubuntu without issue. For reference, I am affected by Bug #43710, which provides a similar experience under the old 'nv' driver for Ubuntu pre-Lucid. That bug was closed as 'wontfix'. However, under that issue, I wouldn't hardlock -- I could press Ctrl+Alt+Del, and the computer would eventually reboot. I would think this would be a blocking bug. [Bug 553831] [NEW] ubuntu boot menu and plymouth splash screen logo inconsistency
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: grub Apologies if I filed this against the wrong package, please reroute as necessary. When booting from a Ubuntu Live CD, the rebranded Ubuntu graphic shows the smaller 'logo' with colors filling in the people forming the circle. However, whether you select to boot to the live environment or to simply install Ubuntu, the splash screen displayed by plymouth shows a higher resolution Ubuntu graphics, but the logo is not colored. I don't really have a preference, but it seems pretty unprofessional if the first two logos a new user sees as inconsistent. [Bug 553835] [NEW] gdm logon screen and ubuntu desktop theme color inconsistency
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm The gdm theme uses light gray panels and input boxes. However, the default Lucid theme is Ambiance, a very dark theme. Seems very unprofessional that the panel colors in the logon screen do not match the panel colors in the Ambiance theme. It wouldn't be as shocking if the default theme were Radiance. Personally, I would think the dark colors used by gdm in Karmic would be a closer fit, though they probably don't match Ambiance. [Bug 553842] [NEW] proprietary driver are in use when no prop drivers are installed
Public bug reported: Apologies for filing against 'ubuntu-desktop'. I am unsure what package contains the restricted driver applet. Please redirect as necessary. After performing a clean installation, Ubuntu notifies me that restricted drivers are available. I click the tray icon and am taken to the Hardware Drivers applet, which proudly displays Proprietary drivers are being used to make this computer work properly. [Bug 553854] [NEW] plymouth: after installing proprietary nvidia driver, splash screen displays in low color/low resolution mode
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: plymouth While using the 'nouveau' driver during live CD installation, or after installation, plymouth displays the very pretty rebranded ubuntu logo at my native resolution, and supports a clean transition into the gdm logon screen. As soon as I install the proprietary NVIDIA driver (I only tested with (version current) [Recommended], this is 190 or 195, I believe, I'm sure the logs will indicate), plymouth displays the Ubuntu logo in what appears to be a 256-color mode, the resolution appears to be 640x480. [Bug 553864] [NEW] 'F10' keystroke captured by Terminal window
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: htop htop displays a list of keyboard shortcuts along the bottom of the screen. 'F10' allegedly closes htop, but this is impossible from Ubuntu's Terminal window, which captures the F10 key to open the menu. In testing, I found the F10 key inconsistently opened menus across different applications, without any apparent consistency. For example, F10 opened menus in gEdit and Nautilus, but didn't open menus in Firefox. This seems like a poor choice for a hotkey, since there are faster and more efficient ways to open these menus (ALT+arrows to walk them, ALT+marked letter to jump straight to a desired menu, etc).. I didn't know where to start taking down Goliath, but I figured I'd start with the package I first noticed it in. Please reassign as necessary. Reproduced issue on Geforce 9600 GT using Lucid daily live CD (20100317). Hangs at the new Ubuntu branded boot screen with second monitor connected. Disconnected second monitor and successfully completed the installation. -- nvidia card: hangs on start gdm if a second monitor on DVI-I is present https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/43710 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 381164] Re: database disk image is malformed
I ran into this error after doing an unclean shutdown on my Thinkpad T400 running ubuntu 9.04. After restarting my machine, I was seeing errors in evolution and it was unable to load my inbox. The error was: Error while opening store spooldir://var/spool/mail -- database disk image is malformed. To solve this problem, I closed Evolution and I ran the command from Olivier Berger in comment #18. After installing sqlite3, the command ran and told me that I had issues with my spool directory (duh). This helped me find the location of that folders.db file. /home/jason/.evolution/mail/spooldir/var/spool/mail/folders.db I first backed up this file to my desktop and then did a rm folders.db. After restarting Evolution a few times, my mail was back and everything works again. Thanks! -- database disk image is malformed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/381164 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
