[Bug 1898152] Re: upgrade fails to calculate if gnuradio-dev is installed
Having not had any success with removing gnuradio, I tried removing other things, including the PPAs I had removed before (I was aiming to make one change at a tie to pin down the issue). Thanks for the suggestion. I did a complete removal of gnuradio-dev using synaptic package manager, and then tried doing an upgrade. Unfortunately I got the same result. [Bug 1795721] [NEW] Newly mounted drive icons jumbled with Desktop icons.
Public bug reported: The icons for newly mounted [flash] drives automatically appear directly on top of existing desktop icons even if the the "Keep aligned" context menu has previously been selected. It can easily be corrected by selecting "Organize Desktop by Name" from the context menu, but past versions of Ubuntu have usually accomplished this automatically upon flash drive mounting without the need for doing it manually. I will attach a screenshot where you can see the icons mixed together. It appears to affect only flash drives and only the first one that is inserted, as additional drives that are added appear automatically organized on the Desktop. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the size of the flash drive or not because my 2GB drive would not appear on the Desktop (or anywhere else for that matter) at all... Well, if the drivers were being updated automatically with a system update they weren't for me. The engineer didn't explain exactly what he did, sorry. A computer is 50% useless without sound. You don't seem to be in hurry to roll this back to end my misery. This is the second time this has happened, the first had to be fixed by an engineer. Only way i can load it is via advanced/recovery/resume (I have tried all options-nothing works) Warns me that graphics may need to be altered but I cannot change graphics settings anyway! Display lags: 'you tube' impossible to watch. We also need: 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, Ubuntu 18.04 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or by checking in Software Center: Terminla gives N: Unable to locate package pkgname 3) What you expected to happen; Ubuntu to load 4) What happened instead see A) I have burned a lot of daylight trying to fix this/look for a solution so any ideas would be appreciated. [Bug 1444656] Re: GnuTLS TLS 1.2 handshake failure
Hi Seth, I've attached a debdiff which is generated off the latest gnutls26 package: 2.12.23-12ubuntu2.7. That said, no changes to my earlier patch were required to apply cleanly. Hopefully this is what you're after? I should also add that this patch should ideally be reviewed by someone knowledgeable about GnuTLS and C, as I don't consider myself to meet either of those requirements! Particularly given this is a security library. Cheers, -SDL ** Patch added: "gnutls26_2.12.23-12ubuntu2.8.debdiff" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnutls26/+bug/1444656/+attachment/4841301/+files/gnutls26_2.12.23-12ubuntu2.8.debdiff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1444656 Title: GnuTLS TLS 1.2 handshake failure To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnutls26/+bug/1444656/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1444656] Re: GnuTLS TLS 1.2 handshake failure
We encountered this bug today and it has the potential to be pretty nasty if you're unfortunate enough to hit it. In our case we have several systems which perform authentication against a Windows domain using LDAPS. We recently updated the TLS certificate on those systems and all the services which perform LDAPS authentication starting failing with the symptoms described earlier in this bug. The new TLS certificate we installed had the same key size and hash algorithm, but it turned out the root CA & intermediate certificate were using SHA384 as the signature hash. This in turn caused the LDAPS connections to stop working. Given the CA's certificates were using SHA384 reissuing the certificate wasn't going to help and downgrading the TLS version was not at all desirable given the potential security implications. I've backported the commit referenced by Marc and confirmed it resolves the problem for us. In my view it'd be wise to push this out to 14.04 users as this issue is going to presumably become more prominent as more certificates start using stronger hash algorithms and TLS 1.2 becomes more prevalent. ** Patch added: "fix-tls12-handshake.diff" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnutls26/+bug/1444656/+attachment/4837425/+files/fix-tls12-handshake.diff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1444656 Title: GnuTLS TLS 1.2 handshake failure To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnutls26/+bug/1444656/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

After upgrading my Asus laptop to Ubuntu 15.10 I got dumped to black screen with a flashing cursor. To fix this I had to: 1. run "sudo dpkg --configure -a" to finish installing packages that were already downloaded 2. run "sudo apt-get install --reinstall resolvconf" - because apt told me resolvconf was broken 3. run "sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm" (and pick lightdm again) and then reboot (to get a graphical desktop back) 4. edit /etc/bumblebee/bumblebee.conf and change KernelDriver, LibraryPath and XorgModulePath to point to the newer NVidia driver Ubuntu had installed, then reboot (to get bumblebee's primusrun command working again) Not the greatest upgrade experience but its all working now. Of course don't do the above unless you read a little and know what these do, or have reason to believe that these will solve problems you actually have. [Bug 1342574] Re: Samba crashing on null path in cleanup_tmp_files
Seeing the exact same issue here. I also note that the crash seems to be from starting smbd with the '-D' parameter by samba-ad-dc, however, it shouldn't even be trying to run this from what I can see. The system is running a fresh installation of Samba with a vanilla configuration and as such is not configured to function as a domain controller. The init.d script for samba-ad-dc contains this excerpt: start) SERVER_ROLE=`samba-tool testparm --parameter-name=server role 2/dev/null | tail -1` if [ $SERVER_ROLE != active directory domain controller ]; then exit 0 fi However, the upstart script performs no such check and simply attempts to start it unconditionally. I'm not sure if this is related to the behaviour we see here (expecting configuration parameters that aren't present?) or is a separate issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1342574 Title: Samba crashing on null path in cleanup_tmp_files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1342574/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1292400] Re: task systemd-udevd:1906 blocked for more than 120 seconds.
This bug has been quiet for a while by the looks of it so just chipping in. I can confirm I witnessed this bug last week on an Ubuntu 14.04 x64 VM on a Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V server with dynamic memory enabled on the guest. I suspect that dynamic memory (aka. memory hot- add/remove) may be related to this issue. If so, creating a VM with dynamic memory enabled and then running a workload that is memory intensive to ensure the Hyper-V server allocates more RAM to the VM may be beneficial. The tie-in with the balloon driver is interesting, and might suggest there's some level of interaction going on between these two components? Perhaps after dynamic memory adds more RAM to the system the balloon driver may trigger the issue due to no longer valid assumptions, or alternatively, the removal of memory from the system once it no longer needs it has a similar effect? It may also be useful for others to know that we initially detected this issue due to it causing a very high load average on the affected system which can be trivially detected by monitoring systems like Nagios. Note that while the load average is high, this doesn't correspond to any given process actually consuming substantial CPU resources, so you'll want to take a look at the dmesg output which will confirm if you're experiencing the issue via the blocked systemd-udevd and kworker processes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1292400 Title: task systemd-udevd:1906 blocked for more than 120 seconds. [Bug 1363519] Re: start-stop-daemon fails debsums check
Just chipping in that I have just encountered this exact bug as reported by Rafał Roncoszek on an Ubuntu Server 14.04.1 x64 server I admin. Was initially very concerned to see a critical system binary failing a debsums check but the md5sum's of the failing binary and the updated binary via a 'apt-get install dpkg --reinstall' exactly match those provided in this bug report. While I agree this isn't a security issue, I do consider it a fairly severe bug when incorrect/unexpected versions of system binaries are being installed and in turn causing simple auditing tools to report issues with the installation. [Bug 1345059] [NEW] linux-cloud-tools missing from precise
Public bug reported: The Trusty Tahir Hardware Enablement Stack for Ubuntu 12.04 is available and being aggressively promoted to existing Ubuntu 12.04 deployments running now End-of-Life Hardware Enablement Stacks. However, the linux- cloud-tools packages have not been made available to Precise users. This package was newly introduced in Trusty Tahir and contains cloud specific tooling associated with a given kernel version, separate from the general tools provided in the linux-tools packages. Right now, this package only contains Hyper-V specific daemons and utilities. The result of this is that on updating to the Trusty HWE the userspace hv-kvp-daemon Hyper-V daemon previously provided by the linux-tools packages is no longer present and will fail to start when the hv-kvp-daemon-init package attempts to do so: hv_kvp_daemon not available for kernel 3.13.0-30 This is in my view a very serious issue as it risks potentially breaking Hyper-V deployments of Ubuntu 12.04 which have either updated to the Trusty HWE or will be installed via the 12.04.05 installation media (the latter has yet to be released). From my brief look at the packaging situation the linux-cloud-tools packages depend on a newer version of sysv-rc than is currently available for 12.04, though, this is the only unmet dependency and I'm unsure if the newer sysv-rc is technically required or was just pinned against the release that Ubuntu 14.04 shipped with. ** Affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Package changed: hv-kvp-daemon-init (Ubuntu) = linux-meta (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to hv-kvp-daemon-init in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1345059 Title: linux-cloud-tools missing from precise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-meta/+bug/1345059/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1343159] [NEW] apt-offline get doesn't work on FreeBSD 10/Python 2.7.6
Public bug reported: In AptOfflineCoreLib.py there is a call to socket.setdefaulttimeout() which changes the default timeout from infinite to 30 seconds. Additionally the user has the option to provide a non-infinite timeout via a command line switch during 'apt-offline get' commands. This changes the timeout for all sockets including those used within httplib (called from urllib2). Unfortunately httplib converts the socket to a file descriptor using socket.makefile() and the documentation for that function in Python2.7 states The socket must be in blocking mode (it can not have a timeout). The result, at least on FreeBSD10, is that the 'apt-offline get' function fails whenever the socket is not ready with data immediately. Changing the timeout value to something very large doesn't appear to help and I suspect there may be some implementation issue specific to FreeBSD which causes read/recv on sockets to return before the timeout. Setting the timeout to infinite ('None') resolves the issue and can be done directly in the urllib2.urlopen() function by providing an argument 'timeout=None' to enforce the timeout for just that connection. [Bug 1320488] [NEW] hv-kvp-daemon-init incompatible with kernel 3.11
Public bug reported: The /usr/sbin/hv_kvp_daemon script installed by the hv-kvp-daemon-init package currently fails to find the hv_kvp_daemon binary for the running kernel when running under a 3.11 release (as per a reasonably up-to-date Ubuntu 12.04 installation). Ironically, the hv_kvp_daemon script installed by linux-tools-common package works fine, however, it is diverted by the package ending up at /usr/sbin/hv_kvp_daemon.hv-kvp- daemon-init. It is thus never actually called by the hv-kvp-daemon init script. The hv-kvp-daemon-init package is still required as it installs various other support utilities as well as the init script itself used to start the KVP (Key-Value Pair) daemon. I believe this issue has arisen as the /usr/sbin/hv_kvp_daemon script was presumably not included until the linux-tools-common releases associated with the 3.11 series of kernels and has not been updated to reflect this. [Bug 994104] Re: Wireless performance issues on kernel 3.4.0-1-generic (iwlwifi)
This bug makes daily work a real pain - my wifi is constantly going down and I have to press the hardware kill switch twice to get it back up again. As a work-around, based on the upstream report, I have been running a script to force the adapter into (slower) g-mode: sudo rmmod iwlwifi sudo modprobe iwlwifi 11n_disable=1 This script sometimes causes a complete kernel crash, so I have not made it run by default, though it has not caused a crash so far when I run it manually soon after bootup. Perhaps it causes the crash after the adapter has gone through one of its failure cycles? [Bug 330056] Re: does not handle VPN connections in dispatcher
Can this patch please be added to the distribution now? The patch was added in January and the October release of Maverick still does not contain it - what can be done? -- does not handle VPN connections in dispatcher https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/330056 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 511302] Re: You do not have the required permissions to use this drive.
Same here, worked after I unmounted. Thanks guys! You can use administration - disk utility (palimpsest) to unmount it but I can't remember if that's in the default install. Anyway, it would be nice if Brasero were fixed to handle this more elegantly. ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #607773 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=607773 -- You do not have the required permissions to use this drive. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/511302 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 353495] Re: (K)ubuntu fails to install GRUB on Amilo Si 3655 notebook
The work-around above fails in Lucid Lynx (Ubuntu 10.04) because the grub command is missing from grub2. See the following thread for an updated work-around: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9635712#post9635712 After a lot of searching I have been unable to determine whether this is a bug in grub or a problem with the Amilo BIOS having some kind of affection for the Windows boot loader. Any insight would be appreciated - its such a shame to fail at the finish line after everything else on the laptop works perfectly out of the box. -- (K)ubuntu fails to install GRUB on Amilo Si 3655 notebook https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/353495 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
