[Bug 1728514] [NEW] mpv won't play videos because no libcudart.so.7.5, totem won't play mp4 and h264
Public bug reported: Trying to play any video with mpv (or just running mpv --help), I'm getting: mpv: error while loading shared libraries: libcudart.so.7.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory MPEG-4 and H.264 videos currently don't work in Totem - I'm getting a messagebox telling me that I don't have the codecs. Clicking "Find in Ubuntu Software" gives a sad face in Ubuntu Software. Command line output: ** Message: Missing plugin: gstreamer|1.0|totem|H.264 (High Profile) decoder|decoder-video/x-h264, level=(string)4.1, profile=(string)high, interlace-mode=(string)progressive (H.264 (High Profile) decoder) ** Message: Missing plugin: gstreamer|1.0|totem|MPEG-4 Video (Advanced Simple Profile) decoder|decoder-video/mpeg, mpegversion=(int)4, systemstream=(boolean)false, profile=(string )advanced-simple, level=(string)5 (MPEG-4 Video (Advanced Simple Profile) decoder) I have already tried apt install --reinstall-ing all gstreamer packages, everything ffmpeg related. I reinstalled ubuntu-restricted-extras and ubuntu-restricted-addons. I tried deleting the gstreamer cache directory. I removed CUDA 8.0 (which I installed months ago from the nvidia repositories), just in case. I have nvidia-387 installed from the graphics drivers ppa, but that doesn't seem related because as far as I can see, libcudart.so.7.5 isn't anywhere in the Ubuntu repositories. I am certain that prior to installing nvidia-387 (when I had nvidia-384 from the Ubuntu repositories), the videos were not playing either. I don't know if I'm experiencing one bug or two bugs but I suspect it's one bug. Everything was working correctly in Ubuntu 17.04 prior to the 17.10 update. [Bug 1728384] [NEW] gnome-shell crashes when searching files
Public bug reported: I observed that gnome-shell crashes when I tried to load the Software Sources application. After a bit of trial and error it turned out that the crash only occurs if searching files is enabled in Settings. I can reliably trigger the crash by typing "so" into the search box. Sometimes only the search window crashes, leaving all windows open. Other times Gnome crashes, returning me to the login screen after around 20 seconds. When the files search is off, no crash is observed. Attached is a syslog excerpt for the crash. It has two searches - I searched for "s", and then I searched for "so", both with Files search on. The crash occurs after the second search. [Bug 1527885] [NEW] freeze when moving windows between workspaces
Public bug reported: I get occasional freezes when moving windows from one desktop to another by dragging them with the mouse in the Workspace Switcher view. Perhaps one in 50-100 drags, I'm stuck in the four workspaces view, with the mouse cursor in the shape of a clutching hand (as when a window is currently being dragged), unable to let go of the window. When moving the mouse and pressing a keyboard button (I tried left alt), the window I'm stuck dragging gets moved on screen, but only moving the mouse does not move the window on screen - i.e only the mouse cursor moves, until I pressed left alt, and then the window appeared where the mouse was. Alt-shift works in this weird mode, so does print screen. I alt-tabbed to my console and issued sudo init 6 to escape this situation. [Bug 664330] [NEW] Don't hide the option for removing the ubuntu one ribbon
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Hello, I upgraded to Maverick, to see a big red band on top of some of my folders saying that they are not synchronized with Ubuntu One. They look alarming, and take up a lot of rare vertical space. I tried clicking on them, but they give no hint on how to make them go away (except for synchronizing with Ubuntu one, I guess...) I looked through the "view" menu, and found no mention of this ribbon. I had to search forums in order to find that File->Ubuntu One->Hide Ribbon does it. Really, add a button on the ribbon to hide it. It doesn't smell well when a commercial product grabs so much attention and doesn't let me remove it. Also, there's no point in suggesting to synchronize the downloads folder, even if I were using Ubuntu One. [Bug 599043] [NEW] Window list hover highlighting is confusing in Ambiance
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-themes-ubuntu Hello, This is a usability problem. I'm using the ambiance theme for over a month, and I keep finding myself clicking a window in the window list which is already active, thus minimizing it, instead of clicking the window I want to show. I think that this is because the highlighting a window button gets when the mouse hovers over it is much stronger than the highlighting a button has if its window has focus. This means that before clicking a button, since it is always highlighted, it's very hard to tell whether I'm going to show it (if it doesn't have focus) or hide it (if it has). It isn't obvious whether another button is highlighted, because focused and unfocused windows have roughly the same highlighting. I suggest to disable hover highlighting completely, and show clearly, using persistent highlighting, whether a window has the focus or not. Perhaps the color of the border or the text could be changed when the mouse hovers over a button, as long as it remains clear which window has the focus. I hope this can at least be checked. I'm really not a novice, so if I keep doing the same mistake over and over then maybe something is wrong about the design. I think that that's the reason why if I log out and log in again it works fine: libraries were already loaded, so starting up the environment is faster so the problem doesn't happen. It also explains why people with faster computers (the ubuntu team, perhaps) haven't experienced it. -- Gnome-panel fails to load various applets https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/426185 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 450779] Re: xorg freeze when starting firefox
Ok. I have a bunch of possibly related problems, and haven't yet managed to sort them out. Sometimes I get applet error messages (even after removing dropbox), and sometimes I don't. Sometimes opening firefox freezes the desktop, and sometimes it doesn't. As I reported, starting another application (terminal) has never caused a freeze. Starting firefox from the menu instead of by using the panel button hasn't caused a freeze. Starting firefox from the panel button after opening the window hasn't caused a freeze, but I haven't tried it a lot. *Perhaps* a freeze didn't happen when I disabled kernel mode setting, but I'm not sure.
