[Bug 199116] Re: Can not send 'Ctrl+Alt+Del'

2008-05-03 Thread Onkar Shinde
Steve,

I discussed this issue already with seb128 on #ubuntu-devel and he said it was
ok to get this fix in SRU before it is done in intrepid. Following are the two
major reasons.
1. The bug is a regression from last Ubuntu version. xvncviewer had an option
to send Ctrl + Alt + Del to server and this is necessary for Windows login when
connected over VNC.
2. The fix will not be available in Vinagre release in GNOME 2.22.2. Instead it
will be available in 2.23.x. So it will not get in Hardy with the sync/merge of
GNOME 2.22.2.

Apart from this, should we really expect anyone to test Intrepid so
early in the development cycle, assuming that vinagre will be updated
with this fix within a month?

Please let me know what you think.

@Matthew

Is your machine a laptop? Do you have any hardware switch to turn bluetooth
on/off?
I have also heard that on some Dell laptops there were some problem with
bluetooth when machine was dual boot (windows/ubuntu). Is it a similar case for
you?

By the way, input service is for bluetooth keyboard/mouse or other such
devices which act as input devices. Blackberry is not input device.

[Bug 211252] Re: Cannot recieve files using bluetooth

2008-04-23 Thread Onkar Shinde
bluez-utils is a package in main, not universe. The package requires a
merge as there are some changes on ubuntu side. It is highly unlikely
that merge will happen at this point of time (3 days before final
release).

As of now the bug seems to be affecting only Symbian phones. I am
attaching here a detailed test report by Sami Mäkinen that he put in a
comment on bug #146145.

I will also meanwhile provide merged packages in my ppa for detailed
testing. I will try to get this bug fixed in hardy updates but I can not
promise anything as I am not a developer.

Hope this helps.

If that doesn't work then please raise a concern in #ubuntu-devel channel on

[Bug 205441] Re: Add depends 'java-sdk | java-compiler'

2008-04-22 Thread Onkar Shinde

** Summary changed:

- Add depends 'java-sdk'
+ Add depends 'java-sdk | java-compiler'

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: ant

- Currently ant has dependencies java-compiler and java-runtime. While
- sun-java5-jdk and sun-java6-jdk provide 'java-compiler', java-gcj-
- compat-dev and openjdk-6-jdk and java-gcj-compat-dev provide 'java-sdk'.
- I am not sure which one of them is correct.
+ Currently ant doesn't have dependency on java-compiler or java-sdk.

- So if you have plan to use openjdk-* packages, it is possible to have
- ant installed but remove openjdk-6-jdk. Ant on it's own is not much
- useful without a java compiler because the main task of compilation can
- not be done.
+ So it is possible to have ant installed without a java compiler. Ant on

[Bug 204008] Re: HP nw8440 laptop bluetooth doesn't work

2008-04-05 Thread Onkar Shinde
I have 3 questions for you.
1. Does it actually have bluetooth? There is no indication in lspci output.
The specs here say bluetooth is optional -
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12449_div/12449_div.HTML
2. If the answer to above is yes, then do you know if the wireless on/off
switch also makes bluetooth on/off?
3. Have you used bluetooth in the OS that came pre-installed. I am assuming it
is some Windows version.

[Bug 191704] Re: hidd binary removed form bluez-utils package unable to connect as a result

2008-03-25 Thread Onkar Shinde
Hi all,

I myself don't have a bluetooth mouse/keyboard so I can't comment about
the functionality. As per what I have heard the hidd, pand binaries are
not needed anymore. But there doesn't seem to be a clear explanation as
to how to make mouse/keyboard work with new methods.

Can anyone go through howtos on http://wiki.bluez.org and see if it
works (using the new dbus method). if it works properly and doesn't give
a problem after restart, then please post here the success story.

If it doesn't work for most of you then I think it makes sense to
introduce old methods.

NOTE: I am not a developer. I am one of the users. But I will try my
best to get this problem solved before release.

[Bug 206456] Re: Use tango icon in the notification area, too

2008-03-25 Thread Onkar Shinde
It looks like the difference is due to the icon size. bluez-gnome has 1 svg and
3 png icon. The png icon are 1 for 22x22, 32x32 and 48x48 sizes each.
It is my personal opinion that an svg icon should be used when it is available.
But I have no knowledge how exactly icon selection works. You should probably
report the bug in GNOME bugzilla.

The 'java' alternative doesn't specify plugin. It is for java binary.

restart firefox and try again.

[Bug 205441] [NEW] Add depends 'java-sdk'

2008-03-23 Thread Onkar Shinde
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ant

Currently ant has dependencies java-compiler and java-runtime. While
sun-java5-jdk and sun-java6-jdk provide 'java-compiler', java-gcj-
compat-dev and openjdk-6-jdk and java-gcj-compat-dev provide 'java-sdk'.
I am not sure which one of them is correct.

So if you have plan to use openjdk-* packages, it is possible to have
ant installed but remove openjdk-6-jdk. Ant on it's own is not much
useful without a java compiler because the main task of compilation can
not be done.

[Bug 203612] Re: Screens Graphics menu item in wrong section

2008-03-19 Thread Onkar Shinde
I can create a debdiff for this. But I need confirmation on two things.
1. The second last changelog entry says 'Disable displayconfig-gtk in menus
(replaced by Screen Resolution tool)', which obviously has not happened.
2. The .desktop file contains following entries:
Categories=
NotShowIn=KDE;
I think instead of that it should have entries,
Categories=appropriate entry
NoDisplay=true

So first thing is whether we should 'really not display' this tool by
default. A decision is to be made here for which I don't have authority.
Adding back category is not a major problem.

Please let me know what you think.

[Bug 194374] [NEW] [hardy] API 'apt_pkg.Architecture' not present

2008-03-07 Thread Onkar Shinde
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: python-apt

In one of the example programs (/usr/share/doc/python-apt/examples/config.py)
an api 'apt_pkg.Architecture' is used to retrive the apt architecture.
But trying to use this fails with following error

The api 'apt_pkg.Config.Find(APT::Architecture)' works properly.

[Bug 193386] Re: Feature Freeze Exception for glassfishv2ur1

2008-03-07 Thread Onkar Shinde
Can you please take a look at existing packages glassfish-* packages in
Ubuntu and tell us if this is just an upgrade? It looks like we are
carrying old version of glassfish-bin, sunwderby and imq (1.0.1) but
everything else has been upgraded to some prerelease of 2ur1 (2+b58g-2).

I believe that you should first try changing the source of glassfish-* (2+b58g)
to create a glassfish-bin and glassfish. And then try upgrading this package to
latest version, 2ur1 in this case.
Unless you are tying to have parallely installable packages with different root
folders, you should remove v2ur1 from package names. Ubuntu version should look
something like this 2+ur1-0ubuntu1, indicating that it is greater than 2+b58g-2.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask them on #ubuntu-motu
on irc.freenode.net

[Bug 198320] Re: Not so useful descriptions for campaign packages

2008-03-05 Thread Onkar Shinde
The descriptions that are shown while starting a campaign can be found
in the campaign's _main.cfg file at the path
/usr/share/games/wesnoth/data/campaigns/campaign_name/_main.cfg

For example I found this for 'Tale of Two Brothers'
*
An evil mage is threatening the local village and its inhabitants. When their
leader Bjarn sends for aid from his brother Arne, he is victorious, but Bjarn
himself is kidnapped. Can you rescue him?

(Novice level, 4 scenarios; the 'Hard' version may challenge more experienced
players.)
*

I would have forwarded to Debian but unfortunately I don't have access
to gmail which is my primary email address.

[Bug 191704] Re: hidd binary removed form bluez-utils package unable to connect as a result

2008-02-19 Thread Onkar Shinde
@paul,

'Browse Device' is not for bluetooth input devices. It is for browsing
phones/pda. And even in that case it doesn't work because nautilus does
not use gnome-vfs anymore and the extension that is supposed to let you
'Browse Device' is not yet ported.

@Michael,
I guess you meant to say 'bluez-gnome' instead of 'gnome-bluetooth'.

@Ryan,

I have no idea if fluxbox provides any panel. But xfce does and you
should be easily able to install bluez-gnome because it is a panel
applet using GTK+ and is not dependent on GNOME (even if the names
suggests so).

[Bug 190405] Re: please upgrade bluez-gnome to 0.18

2008-02-19 Thread Onkar Shinde
Now that obex-data-server is in 'New' queue, I have tried packaging the
latest bluez-gnome version 0.21 and also done some marginal testing
(pairing and PC-to-phone transfer via the 'Send file ...' menu in
applet). I hope Baptiste you don't mind me hijacking your work. :-)

Please note that even though package builds it will not be installed unless
obex-data-server is accepted from the 'New' queue and makes way to repository.
I had done a manual installation.
Also someone will have to make a 'Main Inclusion Report' for it so that it gets
included on CD.

I have added a patch to disable the menu item 'Browse Device ...' until
gome-vfs-obexftp is ported to gvfs. The dependency on gnome-vfs-obexftp
is still there in the hope that it will work in near future.

Please find attached .diff.gz. Comments/suggestions welcome.
