[Bug 1911133] Re: [Regression] RS482M [Mobility Radeon Xpress 200]

2021-01-16 Thread Six
I can also confirm issues with the same graphics card on two Dell
Inspirion 1501 laptops that occurred around the same time after a recent
update.

[AMD/ATI] RS482M [Mobility Radeon Xpress 200] - Ubuntu Mate 20.04

Issues include:-
> Message of error occurred with "mate-session-check-accelerated-gl-helper"
> after boot.
> Reports of r300 module missing then segfault when playing video in VLC
> Segfault when you run glxinfo
> WebGL items not working in Firefox.

[Bug 1839707] Re: System does not shutdown with any kernel >= v4.6.3

2019-08-10 Thread Six
** Summary changed:

- System does not shutdown since upgrade from 16.04LTS
+ System does not shutdown with any kernel >= v4.6.3

** Description changed:

System hangs on shutdown at "Target Poweroff" since updating from 16.04LTS to
18.04LTS.
I have since tried cosmic and now disco with the same results.
Using ukuu I have diagnosed the issue to a change between linux 4.6.2 and
4.6.3
Any linux version 4.6.3=> will hang at shutdown.
Both full installations and live images have the same result, I also have two
devices with the same issue.
+
+ In addition I should mention I have tried many workarounds suggested on
forums and in IRC.
+ This includes but not confined to running with:- noapic nolapic and both
Windows and Linux acpi_osi

[Bug 1609436] [NEW] Black screen and no tty with Ubuntu 16.04.1 (kernel >= 4.4.2)

2016-08-03 Thread Basic Six
Public bug reported:

With Ubuntu 16.04, there is no video output and switching to another tty
does not work either. The monitor shows a "no video input" message, the
screen is black. This seems to happen with kernel >= 4.4.2. The current
Ubuntu live system (ubuntu-16.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso) was used for
testing.

It works with Ubuntu 15.10 (kernel 4.2).

An identical bug was filed against Fedora more than 4 months ago, but there is
no progress:

[Bug 1522287] Re: Vagrant box ubuntu/wily64 cannnot connect network in default

2015-12-23 Thread Six
Looks like someone submitted the bug to Vagrant's GitHub Issues page
here: https://github.com/mitchellh/vagrant/issues/6683

It's good to see people talking about it. I noticed the issue 3+ months
ago but I wasn't familiar enough to determine if the issue was with
Vagrant itself or just the Wily box.

[Bug 354909] Re: python 2.6 support - jaunty

2015-11-14 Thread Six
Just an FYI to anyone who comes across this, I've located the exact call
that depends on numpy. It is quite difficult to find this (as numpy is
only used indirectly), so I've decided to comment despite the age of
this issue.

It is line 327 of spectlib/notifier.py

for row in icon.get_pixels_array():

You can duplicate the segmentation fault by running the following:

import gtk
icon = gtk.icon_theme_get_default().load_icon('dialog-information', 64,0)
print(icon.get_pixels_array())

[Bug 470346] Re: no internet connection even wired

2010-02-24 Thread Six-Echo
Hi. I have a very similar issue than Chris. After a network-manager package
upgrade (due to grey button on discovering hidden networks bug), network
manager cannot obtain a IP address via DHCP. iwconfig show that my computer is
associated to the desired network, but I must run dhclient wlan0 to obtain a
IP address.
Network-manager version is
network-manager_0.8~a~git.20091013t193206.679d548-0ubuntu1_i386.deb on Ubuntu
9-10.
When I obtain the IP address I can ping the gateway, surf the Internet,...so
the connection is well established. But network-manager icon looks like it is
trying to connect to the network yet. Every time I disconnect, I must run
dhclient to connect again.
It seems like network-manager is failing to execute dhcp or is stuck on
something else.

Re: [Bug 349102] Re: [System manufacturer P5K-E] suspend/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]

2009-04-12 Thread Olivier Six
The funny thing is : yesterday I installed nvidia 1.80 driver, and the
problem disappeared at once.

Oleg Yermakov wrote:
Okay, I run exactly the same motherboard (Asus P5K-E), and have the
 same problems.

 1) I run the latest BIOS (1301 beta),
 2) I have disabled the non-free nvidia driver (now there's no non-free
 drivers at all),

The problem still reproduces. It reproduces every time, from bying
 this M/B.

The problem is: it doesn't go to standby; instead it switches to empty
text-mode screen (nvidia driver) OR shuts down monitor (nv driver), then
 hangs.

Will collect some additional info now.

BTW, you can edit header to:

[Bug 357861] [NEW] Kernel Suspend/Hibernate problem [386, ASUS P5, nv xorg driver]

2009-04-08 Thread Olivier Six
Public bug reported:

Since I upgraded to 9.04, my machine NEVER wakes up correctly from
either suspend or hibernate.

But it kind of wakes up : for instance, if I had music running at the
time of hibernate, when I try to get the machine to wake up, it will
play the music. But I have no screen, no mouse, and no keyboard (I can't
even try to reboot X), so the only way to get anything is the RESET
button.

Triage and Debug of Kernel Suspend/Hibernate

Is this a repetition of a previous failure? : NO. Not as such.

Did the machine break while going to sleep or waking up? : WHEN WAKING
UP. Every time.

Is it reproducible? : YES. With both (suspend AND hibernate). The
failing is SYSTEMATIC.

Did it work before? : YES. As long I had 8.10 (with all updates), it
worked.

Do you end up with flashing caps-lock or similar? : NO. Never
experienced that.

Hibernate specific information : attached as triage.tar.gz

I'm not so sure about the debugging thing, but I will try, and append.

[Bug 291732] Re: mouse location wrong in vmplayer

2008-12-07 Thread Six
Kubuntu 8.10 (32-bit) doesn't appear to have the same problem. (But it
does still have the age-old SIGSEV and Language Pack errors that were
previously summarily dismissed...)

I started over with a fresh VMX, and booted the Ubuntu live CD. The
mouse still didn't work in the CD menu, but after booting into the
Ubuntu desktop it worked just fine. I chose to install Ubuntu from the
desktop icon, and this time the mouse functions worked properly during
the setup phase. After booting to the newly-installed CD, I found the
mouse functions to still be in full working order.

I'm not sure if this affected anything or not, but I changed the USB
Autoconnect setting from it's default of OFF (FALSE) to ON (TRUE), using
the easyvmx.com v2.0 generator.

[Bug 291732] Re: mouse location wrong in vmplayer

2008-12-06 Thread Six
I'm experiencing the same problem. I've just installed Ubuntu 8.10
(32-bit) into the latest VMware Player 2.51 (build 126130). My Microsoft
Laser Mouse 6000 USB mouse didn't work at all during the installation
phase, I had to use ALT-keys instead. After installing, pressing the
left mouse button only works correctly while hovering over the
Applications menu. I get only get the Places and System menu to appear
if I click on the menu bar to the right of the Firefox/Email and Help
icons.

For everywhere else, it's also out of synch with the mouse pointer's
actual location. The RMB context menu appears, but selecting an option
from it is impossible with the LMB. When group selecting items on the
desktop, the highlighted rectangle is out of position.

I can't click on the software-button update to see if that cures the
problem (as the out-of-synch position would be too far off-screen to the
right). I'll try Kubuntu 8.10 next to see if that suffers from the same
affliction.

I've also installed prior versions of Ubuntu (6 and 7) into VMware
player without any USB mouse problems such as this.

[Bug 229570] Re: vim missing udev.vim

2008-11-23 Thread Thilo Six
In the meantime i have my own workaround.

I guess at the time of filling this bugreport i didn't saw syntax
highlighting with default hardy-vim in udev-files.

i have rechecked today and when opening
'/etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules' i see:
:set filetype?
filetype=hog

I have written '~/.vim/after/ftdetect/my_filetype.vim':

 udevrules
autocmd BufNewFile,BufRead *udev/*.rules
\ setlocal filetype=udevrules

 udev permissions
autocmd BufNewFile,BufRead *udev/*.permissions
\ setlocal filetype=udevperm

to verify this i have used a modified /etc/vim/vimrc attached

2008-11-02 Thread Thilo Six
The importants of this bug has been set to high and the number of
duplicates is staty growing.

A workaround for those who are affected:
$ sudo vim /etc/shadow

change the line:
root:!:13919:0:9:7::1:

to
root:!:13919:0:9:7:::

You have to redo this everytime you use 'passwd -l $USER' as long this
bug is not fixed.

   * debian/patches/494_passwd_lock-no_account_lock: Restore the previous
behavior of passwd -l (which changed in #389183): only lock the user's
password, not the user's account. Also explicitly document the
differences. This restores a behavior common with the previous versions of

* + the confusion it causes at users-side due to unexpeted behaviour.

All of this is fixed in debian now. For hardy this all is imho a serve

[Bug 238755] Re: 'Account has expired' message when adding a new user

2008-07-24 Thread Thilo Six
the original intention of upstream has been to prevent ssh access where
the user has been locked.

Maybe a solution is to advance the patch to expire the account only if
$USER != root

That way the original intention is preserved without this somewhat
regression.

[Bug 250827] [NEW] rsyslog does not create a system user like sysklogd

2008-07-22 Thread Thilo Six
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rsyslog

I have rebuild rsyslog from source on ubuntu hardy and used it as replacement
for sysklogd since debian switched to it as default.
I now came across a difference between sysklogd and rsyslog. The former does
create a system user which owns the logfiles the later not.
That resulted in logfiles been owned by dnsmasq here because:
1. i purged sysklogd, the system user got removed.
2. installed rsyslog, not creating a user.
3. installed dnsmasq which created a new system user with the first free uid
   which was 101.

I think to be a fully drop in replacement for sysklogd, rsyslog has to create
the same system user as sysklogd.

That's right. I'am just asking here, because it has happend to

Why did it got removed?
Do i have to downgrade manualy?

python2.5 is quite an important package. It's not a good feeling to have
it in undefined state.

Please note this is not blaming you. I'am just curious how to proceed.

2008-04-28 Thread Thilo Six
after various tests i don't think this has anything to do with
/etc/init.d/firestarter being run twice
rather with with partitions not mounted yet.

In my case it is /var where /etc/firestarter/firestarter.sh stores e.g.
/var/lock/firestarter (see e.g. line 180)

what ever i do the first run of firestarter after boot or after installing
(after being purged) it allways exits with state 2

 close all FF

well that really does not make sense in this context

open FF on lets says workspace 4, open xchat on workspace 2 (kde) and click on
an link inside xchat.
FF moves to the current workspace.

I just tested the same with Thunderbird and Akregator - it doesn't happen from
inside those apps.
so maybe it is more xchat related... ?

2008-03-24 Thread Thilo Six
modelines have repeatedly being a root cause of security flaws inside vim.
That's why they are *now* being disabled by default in debian.

imho:

If you want them, i suggest to activate them in ~/.vimrc

...and the doc should be updated accordingly.

[Bug 80499] Re: [network-admin] Changing ESSID requires reboot or, or manual iwconfig for changes to take effect

2008-01-09 Thread Six-Echo
Hi,
I think I had a similar issue. I connect often to a DHCP wireless LAN at the
University , but i need sometimes also to connect to a nother Ap wlan to
control a robot. So I wrote 2 scripts in order to switch from one to another.
When I started at the robot WLAN all was OK (this LAN had static IP); but when
I ran the DHCP WLAN script, I was unable ro return later to the robot WLAN
executing its script. iwconfig showed that WLAN connection switched to
University LAN, after some seconds. Finally I found that I had to stop a dhcp
client daemon AND a WPA_SUPPLICANT daemon too. Adding dhclient stop and
killall -q wpa_supplicant at the beginning of my robotWLAN script was enough
to end with that disturbing WLAN switching.

[Bug 159127] Re: kalarm in gutsy crashes

2007-12-30 Thread Thilo Six
I am able to reproduce this bug now:

create new user = new profile
xterm *not installed* = default in Kubuntu

login, open kalarm, open options dialog and press ok

Kalarm will immediately crash

the same proceduer *with* xterm installed does not crash kalarm.

[Bug 159127] Re: kalarm without xterm installed crashes

2007-12-30 Thread Thilo Six
ui Luka that has been kinda fast. ;)

just a few comments:

For Hardy i suggest to update kalarm to version 1.4.21 = latest stable upstream
which allready includes the fix for this.

For gutsy 3 reasons for an SRU:

* $ apt-cache policy kalarm | grep main
500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com gutsy/main Packages

^^^
* $ apt-cache policy kalarm | grep enter
.
 *** 4:3.5.7enterprise20070926-0ubuntu2 0

* up to now the only people who know about the easy workaround are you and me
